Paragraph 1: When I saw her she was still doing her job but there was such a difference. I praised the new her. Now
Pamela said that other customers would have to wait for their turn while she dealt with another customer. She told me the
change had significantly improved her health. She added that she蒺s also shared what I said with her colleagues. As I walked
away from Pamela, my heart was lightened. She has taken my advice on board and tried to slow down her working pace. A
day蒺s work means just that. It doesn蒺t mean that one should put two days蒺 work into one day.
Paragraph 2: I am proud of myself. Not only have I caused Pamela to reflect on the pressure she was putting herself
under, but also she in turn has encouraged her colleagues in the supermarket to do the same. I really feel very happy and
satisfied with my concern and act of kindness do make a difference to those in need. It蒺s just a simple act of love that costs
no money. So my friends, our kindness doesn蒺t have to be material, but just loving. Bless you all for all you do for others.

Boys and girls,
Good evening! Today we are holding a party for our oral English teacher Ms. Rose.
Here I蒺m sorry to inform the whole class that this lovely lady who sits beside me will leave us and return to her
homeland next month. Personally, I feel quite sorry at the news, for Ms. Rose is the most lovely and easy鄄going teacher I蒺ve
ever known. I really hope Ms. Rose will be happy tonight. What we must say to you now is
“
Thank you
”
. Thank you for
your wonderful teaching. Thank you for every humorous remark you gave on our workbooks. In a word, we had such a great
time during your stay in China. We wish you a good journey with a good memory here.

Change Your Life
Everybody wants to look good, especially young people. 1.
Get into shape.
Exercising regularly not only keeps you looking your best, but also improves your health,
reduces your possibility of getting certain diseases and gives you more energy.
Healthy adults need 150 minutes of moderate
(
适度的
)
aerobic activity or 75 minutes of
vigorous
(
强 有 力 的
)
aerobic activity each week. Moderate activities include walking and
swimming, while vigorous activities include jogging, boxing, and playing basketball. You should
do some kind of strength training at least two days per week.
Also, consider joining a gym or local sports team. 2.
Keep a balanced diet.
3. Whether you want to lose weight or simply improve your overall health, what
you eat matters.
Your diet should consist of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Read food labels and stay
away from foods that contain too much fat and sugar. If you suffer from anxiety or depression,
then cut down on alcohol and caffeine, as these drinks will make matters worse.
Change your clothes.
4. Make an effort to look your best on a daily basis. This doesn蒺t necessarily mean
dressing fancifully
(
花哨地
)
or formally; rather, find clothes that are fashionable, affordable, and
proper.
5.
Get a haircut or dye your hair a different color. Women with long hair should consider
getting layers, bangs, or a short bob.
A. Change your hairstyle.
B. Remember that you are what you eat.
C. Keep away from clothes that make you feel bad about yourself.

Gestures are the silent language of every culture. We point a finger or move another part of
the body to show what we want to say. It is important to know the body language of every
country or we may be misunderstood.
In the US, people greet each other with a handshake in a formal discussion. The handshake
must be firm. If the handshake is weak, it is a sign of weakness or unfriendliness. Friends may
place a hand on the other蒺s arm or shoulder. Some people, usually women, greet each other with a
hug
(
拥抱
)
.
Space is important to Americans. When two people talk to each other, they usually stand
about 2.5 feet away and at an angle, so they are not facing each other directly. Americans get
uncomfortable when a person stands too close. They will move back to have their space. If
Americans touch another person by accident, they say
“
Pardon me
”
or
“
Excuse me
”
.
Americans like to look at the other in the eyes when they are talking. If you don蒺t do so, it
means you are bored, hiding something, or are not interested. When you stare at someone,
however, it is not polite.
For Americans, thumbs鄄up means
“
yes
”
,
“
very good
”
or
“
well done
”
. Thumbs鄄down means
the opposite. To call a waiter, one might put up one hand to head level or above. To show you want
the check, make a movement with your hands as you are signing a piece of paper. It is all right to
point at things but not at people with the hand and index finger
(
食指
)
. Americans shake their
index fingers at children when they blame them and pat them on the head when they admire them.
Learning a culture蒺s body language is sometimes confusing. If you don蒺t know what to do,
the safest thing to do is to smile.
