One day, a young man went to Socrates and said, “I want to be a great success. Can you teach me what I need to know?” Socrates answered, “Sure, my son. Walk with me.” They gladly made their way to the sea.
When they were chest-deep (胸部深) in the water, Socrates put his hands on the young man’s head and pushed it under. After about ten seconds, the young man fought his way to breathe (呼吸). Socrates let go of the man’s head, turned, and walked away.
The young man was angry and decided not to ask Socrates for help again. However, a week later, he thought he might have done something wrong and returned. He asked Socrates once more to teach him the path to success. Socrates smiled and led him back to the sea. As before, Socrates pushed his head underwater. This time, the young man took a deep breath and held it for nearly thirty seconds before coming out. But again, Socrates left.
Thirty days passed. The young man still wanted success and visited him one last time. The young man said, “I hope you remember me. I really want to learn how to succeed.” Socrates said, “I do. Let’s go.”
At the sea, the young man was well-prepared. When Socrates caught his head, he took a deep breath, relaxed, and held it for almost two minutes. After coming up for air and seeing Socrates had left, he ran after him and shouted, “Socrates, why do you always do that?” Socrates turned and said, “Son, I have tried three times to teach you the secret (秘诀) of being a great success. The secret is simple: When you want to succeed as much as you want to breathe, you will be a great success.” The young man happily went back.

Take a pen and write the number 6174 on a piece of paper. It looks just like any other number, doesn’t it? But what if I told you that it was a magic number?
Do you think this is a joke? Well, let’s see the magic with a quick experiment (实验).
Start with any four-digit (数字) number—just make sure that at least two of the digits are different. You may use, for example, 2024.
Now rearrange the digits to make the smallest possible number: 0224. Then, arrange the digits to make the largest number: 4220. Let’s subtract the smaller number from the larger number:
4220-0224= 3996.
Go back to the second step and repeat the process:
9963-3699=6264▷6642-2466=4176▷7641-1467=6174
Ta-da! There you have it: 6174!
You can repeat this experiment with another number. What do you end up with? Is it 6174?
This number is known as Kaprekar’s constant. It is named after the Indian mathematician Dattatreya Ramchandra Kaprekar. He discovered (发现) the magic behind this number in 1949 after performing the above process.
Kaprekar had always enjoyed playing with numbers. After finishing college, he spent his life working as a primary school math teacher. The man was known for his sharp mind. Many schools and colleges invited him to solve difficult math problems.
But when Kaprekar presented the magic of 6174 at an international mathematics meeting, other mathematicians didn’t roll out the red carpet. They thought it was a useless discovery and made fun of him. Yet to this day, no scientist can fully tell why this magic works.
Would you like to dive deeper? Try different numbers and see how many steps you need to get to 6174. Which number needs the most calculations? How about the least?
28. How does the writer start the passage?
A. By using sayings. B. By giving an example.
C. By telling a story. D. By asking questions.
29. To start the experiment, which of the following numbers should you choose?
A. 76. B. 111. C. 1914. D. 6666.
30. What does the underlined phrase mean in the passage?
A. Show little interest. B. Give a warm welcome.
C. Have a good laugh. D. Disagree with his belief.
31. What’s the purpose of this passage?
A. To introduce a magic number 6174 and the story behind its discovery.
B. To show people that Kaprekar was a great mathematician.
C. To teach people how to do math experiments with four-digit numbers.
D. To invite readers to become math teachers like Kaprekar.

The theme (主题) and main logo for the 2025 Spring Festival Gala were officially introduced on November 29, 2024. This great event, which marks the Year of the Snake in the Chinese zodiac, promises to be a celebration filled with joy and traditional Chinese culture. The theme for this year’s gala is “Si Si Ru Yi, Sheng Sheng Bu Xi”, which carries deep cultural and symbolic meanings.
The Chinese lunar calendar divides time into 60-year-long cycles and represents (代表) each year with 10 “Tiangan” characters and 12 “Dizhi” characters. For the Year of the Snake, which roughly fits the year 2025, the characters are “Yi Si”.
In traditional Chinese timekeeping system, a day is divided (分割) into 12 parts, and each part is two hours long. The first part “Zi” is from 23:00 to 1:00, and “Si” in Chinese represents the sixth part of the day, when the sun is high in the sky, symbolizing the rise of Yang energy and the hiding of Yin energy. It’s a time when everything seems to wake up and come to life, creating a beautiful scene.
By using “Si Si Ru Yi” as the theme, the 2025 Spring Festival Gala hopes to bring good wishes to every family and the whole nation. “Sheng Sheng Bu Xi” means that life goes on endlessly, representing the endless energy and prosperity (繁荣) of the Chinese nation.
The main logo is both creative and meaningful. Its design (设计) gets its idea from traditional Chinese patterns and it uses the Oracle Bone Script character “Si” as its creative part. In details, there are two “Si” characters put together in a mirror image, making it look like “Yi” (乙) and “Si” (巳)._______, like a twofold wish for luck. It’s a nice way to bring good luck and send happy wishes to everyone in the Snake Year.
People are very excited to see this new logo and can’t wait for the 2025 Spring Festival Gala to start. It’s going to be a fantastic show, full of music, dance, and fun, just like every year.

①Chinese scientists are trying ways to build houses on the moon using bricks (砖) made from fake lunar soil (土). These bricks were sent to China’s space station on the Tianzhou-8 cargo spaceship. The team working on this project plans to shape the bricks using mortise and tenon joints (榫卯结构), a method from ancient buildings, to build an egg-shaped house on the moon, according to a CCTV report.
②The moon has always been an important goal for space exploration (探索). Many countries have made long-term plans for human activities on the moon. China hopes to send astronauts there by 2030 and build a research station by 2035. A lab in Wuhan, China, has created a sandbox to show how a future moon base might be built.
③Ding Lieyun, the leader of the team making the lunar soil bricks, said building on the moon is very hard. The moon has difficult environments, including no water, low gravity (重力), big temperature changes, and frequent small earthquakes (地震). These make the building process very difficult.
④After many tests the team chose a two-layer dome design called the “lunar pot”, This design is light, uses fewer materials, and works well for keeping warm and staying strong. Inside, the house will have two levels: one for working and one for resting.
⑤The bricks will be made using a method from ancient Chinese building styles. Robots will put the bricks together, and 3D printing will make the structure stronger. These ideas are based on data from the U.S. Apollo program and China’s Chang’e-5 moon mission.
⑥The lunar bricks are now being tested in space to see if they can go through the difficult environment. The first brick should return to Earth by 2025, bringing us closer to building homes on the moon.
36. Which of the followings is the right shape of the house on the moon?
A. B. C. D.
37 What does the underlined word “These” refer to in Paragraph 3?
A. The lunar soil bricks. B. Difficult environments.
C. Big temperature changes D. Small earthquakes.
38. What can we infer from the passage?
A. Building houses on the moon is a difficult task for Chinese scientists.
B. The lunar bricks are already used to build a complete house on the moon.
C. China is making some improvements in building houses on the moon.
D. Many countries show great interest in building houses on the Mars.

第Ⅱ卷(共55分)
VI.任务型阅读(75~76题,每题2分:77~78题,每题3分;79~83题,每空1分,共15分)
阅读下列短文,根据短文内容回答问题并完成表格填写,表格每空限一词。
Do you know how many hours of sleep people need daily? For students aged 6 to 11 years old, they should have 9 to 12 hours of sleep; for students aged 12 to 18 years old, they should have 8 to 10 hours of sleep; and for people who are over 18 years old, they should sleep 7 hours or more.
As we all know, enough sleep is important for teenagers. When teenagers get enough sleep, they can get stronger physically and don’t fall ill easily. They can also do better in schoolwork. Enough sleep also has much to do with their emotional stability (情绪稳定). When teenagers don’t get enough sleep, they can get angry more easily.
However, a study shows that many teenagers in America are not getting enough sleep. Here are the results. Teens need at least 8 hours of sleep at night, but results show most teens get much less 60% of middle schoolers and 70% of high schoolers report inadequate (不够的) sleep on school nights.
Why is it hard for teens to get good sleep? In fact, there is more than one reason. One of the reasons is late bedtime and early school start times. Now, more and more teenagers are having a habit of being “a night owl”, staying up later at night and sleeping longer into the morning. If they can sleep as long as they wish, many teens would get eight hours or more a night, but most school start times ask them to wake up much earlier in the morning.
The use of electronic devices (电子设备) like the smartphone and computer is another reason. Research has found that 89% or more of teens keep at least one device in their bedroom at night. Screen time late into the evening can cause sleep problems. Using these devices can keep teens excited so it might be difficult for them to fall asleep quickly. Sudden phone messages can disrupt (干扰) sleep. And being in the light from smartphones also makes people feel less sleepy.
So teens should improve their sleep environment and habits to get better sleep. Here are some tips (建议).
● Get eight hours of sleep a night on weekdays and weekends.
● Put away electronic devices at least a half-hour before bed.
● Keep your bedroom cool, dark and quiet.

It’s a nice way to bring good luck and send happy wishes to everyone in the Snake Year.

④After many tests, the team chose a two-layer dome design called the “lunar pot”, This design is light, uses fewer materials, and works well for keeping warm and staying strong. Inside, the house will have two levels: one for working and one for resting.
