第二节
One possible version:
Over the next week, I did my best to give Avery some space. Then one day, I approached her.
“ I know you didn’t exactly love the idea of being the March Hare, but you’re such a talented
actress, and the way you say your lines is great.” “Thanks,” said Avery happily, with a big smile
on her face. “Well,” I said, “I’m still struggling with a few things about my character. I’d love
your help if you have any free time this week.” She smiled. “I might be free on Thursday.” And
we practised carefully and passionately on Thursday.
Our play ended up going great. We had so much fun, and the audience loved the perfect
show. They broke into loud applause. And even though things were rough for a little while with
Avery and me, they’re better than ever now! She even apologized for the way she acted at first.
And I’ve learned an important lesson from this experience. Give your teammate a little time and
understanding, and he or she just might come around before too long.

W: Hi, Chris. Have you made any plans for our study group this week?
M: Hi, Emma. Yes, we’re meeting on Wednesday to discuss the chapters from our history
textbook.
W: That’s tomorrow. What time are we starting?
M: We’re planning to start at 4:00 pm and it will last two hours. How about you? Have you
finished reading the chapters?
W: Almost. I’m just a few pages away from being done. Are we having a quiz this time?
M: Yes, I thought it would be helpful to test our knowledge before the big exam next month.
W: That’s a great idea. Do we need to bring anything specific?

M: Just our textbook and a notebook. We’ll be taking notes on the quiz results.
W: Got it. And where are we meeting this time?
M: We’ll be in the library study room, Number 3.
Text 9
W: Do you know a young artist called Will Scoresby?
M: Wow, I know him. He’s a friend of my cousin. He is an unusual artist. He doesn’t use many
different colors. You see green in all his paintings though the color he likes most is orange.
W: Who taught him to paint?
M: His mom was his first teacher. She draws pictures for children’s books. Will’s grandfather is
an artist too. I’m sure Will learned a lot from him, too.
W: Where does Will work?
M: He’s got his own room at home to work in. He draws and paints people’s faces more than
anything else. There’s an online video where you can watch him paint a picture of his own face.
W: And does he sell his paintings?
M: Yes. He sold his first painting last winter, and next summer he’ll have a big exhibition in the
USA.
Text 10
W: Last year, I went to China as an exchange student. Mrs. Zhang, one of my father’s Chinese
business partners became my caretaker, but she was very busy, so basically I had to take care of
myself while I was not at school.
The second day after my arrival, I went to a supermarket searching for basic food stuff. Only
then did I realize my 12-week stay in China was going to be tough — everything was in Chinese. I
managed to find bread, salad and ham. However, I just couldn’t locate the whereabouts of the
thing I was dying for — tomato sauce. What’s worse, hardly could anybody understand what I
was trying to ask. I was almost on the edge of crying.
Then a woman approached me and asked me if everything was okay by using hand gestures.
I asked her where I could find tomato sauce, but she didn’t know English, either. She dialed a
number on her cellphone and passed it to me. It was her son. He talked to me in English and asked
me what I needed. He then translated that back to his mother and she took me to the section.
In a strange place, if someone tries to do even this much for you, it is enough in taking a leap
of faith.
