Ⅲ.阅读理解(2024张家口二模)
难度:★★★☆☆ 建议用时:6 mins
A good conversation happens when people are asking each
other the right kinds of questions and then giving the right
answers. Let’s take a look at four different types(类型) of
questions you can use in a conversation.
26
Type ①:The Open-ended Question
An open-ended question is a question that cannot be
answered with “yes” or “no”. The opposite is a close-ended
question. Close-ended questions end the conversation. An open-
ended question allows you to learn more about the other
person and gives you something to reply to.
27
Type ②: The Follow-up Question
When it comes to conversations, a follow-up question is
something that is asked based on what the other person already
said. In order to ask a good follow-up question, you need to
listen carefully. Follow-up questions keep the conversation
moving and show the other person you were listening to what
he or she said.

28
Type ③: The Clarifying(澄清) Question
When do you need to ask a clarifying question? There are
two situations. First, when the information you heard was
unclear. And second, when you are having trouble
understanding what the speaker is trying to communicate. A
clarifying question can be open- or close-ended.

29
Type ④: The Superlative(最高级) Question
Questions like, “What is the best trip you’ve ever taken?”
or “What’s your most unforgettable thing?” really let you learn
more about the person you’re having a conversation with.

One day, several boys decided to play a football game.
Each one of them brought something for the game: the ball, the
whistle(哨子), the corner flags… Before the game started,
they needed to choose the teams. They decided that the boy
who brought the most important thing would choose the team
37
first. They thought it was the fairest. However, everyone thought
that they brought the most important thing. They argued(争论)
over the matter.
A boy said that the whistle was not necessary because
someone could shout instead. So, they put the whistle to one
side. Then they found something to take the place of the corner
flags… Finally, they put the football to one side and used an
old tin (金属罐) instead.
They started to play. But the game didn’t go well. The boy
who served as the referee(裁判) needed to shout out all the
time. And he quickly got a sore throat(喉咙痛). The tin
didn’t compare with the ball. The boys often kicked the tin out
of bounds(界限) because there were no corner flags.
The boys had to stop the game. One boy said that without
the ball and other things, they couldn’t play a good game.
Because of their selfish(自私的) thoughts, a great game had
turned into something boring. He told everyone that they should
use the proper things for the game. The other boys all agreed.
In the end, it turned out to be a great game. All the boys
had fun.
