He told his plan to his parents, Cindy Reich and Raymond, and headed to nearby Red Mountain, one of North America’s oldest ski resorts. Reich asked him to call or text her when he finished the run. “I will,” he replied. Then he glided towards the ravine(溪谷). Soon there was no way for him to ski around the logs and downed branches that boxed him in. He could feel the weather starting to change. Reich wondered why her son hadn’t texted or called. She began to worry. She called him but couldn’t get through. Reich began to panic and called for help. Mike Hudson, a 41-year-old search-and-rescue manager in the neighbouring village of Fruitvale, was just going home when his phone rang. It was a call from the Emergency Coordination Centre, asking if he could lead a mission to find a missing skier. After 12 hours in the ravine, Gayowski’s phone battery died, and he’d abandoned his skis after struggling. He dressed lightly that day. He knew he had to keep moving or risk death. Through the night he climbed By late afternoon, his legs were beginning to give out, his feet blistering after more than 30 hours of hard walking in ski boots. Hudson dispatched two teams of four rescuers into the ravine. But as the hours slipped by , it became clear that none of his rescuers located Gavowski. Hudson knew that there was only a 30 per cent chance that Gayowski would survive the night. They prepared for another push. Gayowski’s parents sat home, feeling desperate. Sunlight came through the trees in the ravine. Gayowski was grateful to be alive. He struggled to move forward through knee-deep snow. He had to wrap his hands to lift his legs. At some point. he stopped and screamed out in anger. Then he heard some shouts coming back in his direction. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 It took moments for Gayowski to realize that they were just echoes(回声). _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Reich picked up the phone with anxiety. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 参考范文 It took moments for Gayowski to realize that they were just echoes(回声).When he learned the truth, he felt very disappointed. The prolonged coldness and hunger made his progress even more difficult. But every time he recalled his parents’ expectations and waiting, he once again strengthened his determination to go on. At that moment, Hudson's two rescue teams were also approaching to the depths of the ravine from different directions. They shouted out the name of Gayowski as they walked, hoping that he would respond upon hearing it, even though they thought that his chance of survival was very slim. Just as they were about to give up, they discovered the exhausted Gayowski sitting under the tree! Reich picked up the phone with anxiety. Gayowski’s weak voice came from the other end of the phone, “Dear mom, I’m still alive”. Excited tears slid down from Reich’s face. Then she learned from Hudson that her son had entered the hospital for treatment. When Reich and her husband Raymond arrived at the hospital, they expressed gratitude to Hudson's rescue team. 练习2 A Reason to Run Justin and his friend David had known each other before they became classmates. David didn’t seem to mind that Justin was small for his age. But on the first day of school, when David and Justin had lunch with the rest of the fifth- grade boys, Steven asked when David had started playing with babies. David laughed out loud and Justin felt uneasy. Several weeks later, David called to invite Justin to his birthday party at his grandfather’s farm. Justin didn’t want to go. He had wanted to spend the day running. When he ran, the problems at school didn’t matter, and being the smallest kid in his class didn’t matter, either. So every day after school he practiced. And Saturday morning was the best time to run. This Saturday, however, he reached the farm with Steven and the rest of David’s friends. David’s mother suggested that David show the boys around, so David asked his grandfather, Mr. Hamilton, to drive them to the foot of a hill. Mr. Hamilton left to prepare for the party. The boys decided to enter a cave, go out from a hole at its top, climb the hill and then hike back. The entrance to the cave was a big stone room with huge wooden beams (梁) bordering the doorway. About thirty feet in was a wall of rocks blocking further entrance. From the hole in the ceiling, light sh one on the back wall. David started to show the boys how to climb up the ha ck wall. “Let me go first,” Steven demanded. He grabbed David’s belt and pulled him off the rock, throwing him into Rafael. “Watch it!” shouted David. But it was too late. He and Rafael fell hard against a beam and the wood started to crack. A second later the beam fell. Then part of the ceiling collapsed. Dust filled the air. When the dust finally settled, the six boys found themselves trapped in the cave and the only exit was the hole in the ceiling, which became smaller — too small for anyone to go out. Worse still, a stream of water was flowing into the cave. Paragraph 1: Justin looked up at the hole and said, “I might be small enough to get out.” _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Suddenly, Justin saw the farmhouse. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 参考范文1: Justin looked up at the hole and said, “I might be small enough to get out.” His companions' eyes lit up with hope upon hearing this. Despite his fear, Justin took a deep breath and prepared to face the challenge. The boys quickly got to work. The taller ones crouched down, allowing others to step on their shoulders to form an unsteady human ladder. Justin stepped on it carefully, trying his best to keep his balance. The ladder swayed slightly with his movements, making his heart pound in his chest. The air in the cave was stuffy and filled with dust, making it difficult for him to breathe with every upward step. The rough rocks scratched his hands and feet, causing him great pain, but he never gave up. His friends below kept encouraging him, cheering him on and giving him the strength to persevere. Suddenly, Justin saw the farmhouse. A surge of joy and hope welled up in his heart. Ignoring the pain in his body, he sprinted towards the farmhouse with all his might. Along the way, he shouted for help at the top of his lungs, and his voice echoed across the open farm. Mr. Hamilton, who was preparing for the party, heard the cries for help and rushed out of the house immediately. Justin, gasping for breath, described the situation of his trapped friends to him. Mr. Hamilton wasted no time in gathering the nearby villagers and taking rescue tools to rush to the cave. With the joint efforts of everyone, they found the trapped boys. The boys were successfully rescued. Although they were all frightened, fortunately, there were no life - threatening injuries. This experience deepened the friendship between Justin and his friends and made Justin understand the power of courage and unity. 参考范文2: Justin looked up at the hole and said, “I might be small enough to get out.” At his words, a glimmer of hope sparkled in the eyes of his companions. Despite the trepidation gnawing at his insides, Justin steeled himself, inhaling deeply to steady his nerves. Swiftly, the boys sprang into action. The taller among them knelt down, offering their shoulders as a platform for others, constructing a precarious human ladder. Justin gingerly ascended, every muscle tensed in an attempt to maintain equilibrium. With each shift of his weight, the ladder trembled, sending his heart racing. The cave's air, thick with dust and stifling heat, constricted his throat, making each breath a struggle. The jagged rocks, like claws, scraped at his hands and feet, eliciting sharp pangs of pain. Yet, buoyed by the unwavering encouragement of his friends below, their voices a chorus of support, he pressed on, determined not to Suddenly, Justin saw the farmhouse. A wave of elation and hope surged through him, overpowering the pain coursing through his body. With a burst of speed, he hurtled towards the farmhouse, his lungs straining as he bellowed for help, the sound echoing far and wide across the expanse of the farm. Mr. Hamilton, engaged in party preparations, immediately abandoned his tasks upon hearing the desperate cries. Justin, breathless and wild - eyed, relayed the dire situation of his trapped friends. Without hesitation, Mr. Hamilton rallied the neighboring villagers, hastily assembling essential rescue gear, and they all rushed towards the cave. Through their collective efforts, the trapped boys were located and, to everyone's relief, safely extricated. Shaken but unharmed, the experience forged an even stronger bond among the boys. Justin, in particular, emerged with a profound understanding of the indomitable power of courage and unity. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
