When I applied for a part-time job at my local library, I had no idea that I’d be asked to sing and dance several times a week. I would have run. I thought I’d sit behind a desk and get reacquainted with some of my favorite childhood authors, while helping parents find books for their well-behaved children.
My dream of it being a quiet desk job was destroyed the first time I co-hosted “Toddler Time” with 45 kids mostly going in 45 different directions. We took turns reading books, hosting a puppet show, and handing out crafts. Even though we wore microphones, the children could barely hear us above the noise.
One day a woman approached me with her library card, asking about free zoo tickets that she heard were available through our card, mentioned on a Colorado radio station. I explained we were in Texas, under a different library system. When she asked what her card could get her here for free, I listed numerous resources and services — books, movies, games, clubs, classes, and more — but she seemed unimpressed. After a sigh, she walked away.
Many of my days were spent guiding young readers through the library, alongside tasks like shelf-reading and removing damaged books. I also handled numerous questions from visitors unsure of what they wanted or who gave very vague (模糊的) clues about titles they sought, with some questions being particularly challenging to understand.
A middle schooler once asked me, “Do you have any books on pH?” Thinking he had left several letters off his question, I responded with, “Huh?” He spoke more slowly as I looked in our catalog for two random letters and finally said, “No, sorry.” I was wrong. When I shared this request with my manager later, I received some wise advice. “Never say no or that you don’t know,” she said. “Always say, ‘Let’s find out.’” Lesson learned.
Libraries today are about so much more than what’s on the shelves. They can be a place to get answers, to ask questions, or simply a friendly place to be alone. They can also be a place of attraction. Ah, that’s what makes a library so magical.
24. What did the author expect the library job to be?
A. Busy and noisy. B. Quiet and relaxing.
C. Boring and tiring. D. Challenging and fun.
25. Why does the author mention the woman in paragraph 3?
A. To demonstrate the great challenges of the job.
B. To illustrate the diverse resources of the library.
C. To show the benefits of libraries in various states.
D. To highlight the library’s wide range of free services.
26. What lesson did the author learn from the manager?
A Attempt to find a solution. B. Remember more book titles.
C. Always be polite to readers. D. Ignore the demanding requests.
27. What major change can be inferred about libraries?
A. Reduced children’s activities. B. Limited book borrowing quantities.
C. Abandoned traditional book lending. D. Increased community service functions.

A lonely dolphin swimming off Denmark’s cold coast is chirping and yelling into the vast nothingness, and no one is responding. The 17-year-old bottlenose Dolphin, which locals named“Delle”, was first spotted wandering the Svendborgsund channel around five years ago. That’s unusual because the area is far outside the region dolphins normally pass through. Odder still, Delle appeared all on his own, a rarity for a highly social species that almost always travels in groups.
The researchers listened in on Delle with an underwater microphone for 69 days. Delle was quite vocal (发声的) during those days. In total, researchers said they detected 2,239 whistles, 5,487 low-frequency tonal sounds, 767 percussive sounds and 2,288 burst pulses. Those burst pulses, which sound like a rapid series of clicks, were particularly interesting because dolphins often articulate those sounds as a sign of violence towards others in their group. But Delle was all alone. Delle also produced three separate signature whistles. Bottlenose dolphins ordinarily have one unique whistle, which functions similar to a name they use to identify themselves to others.
“I thought we might pick up a few distant whistles or something along those lines,” Olga Filatova said. “I certainly didn’t anticipate recording thousands of different sounds.”
The researchers were unsure why Delle was so vocal. Initially, they imagined it might communicate with a nearby paddle boarder, but this was disproven when it vocalized without people present. Another theory was that it called for other dolphins, yet its long separation made this unlikely. Filatova suggested a more reasonable reason: Delle might make involuntary emotional sounds, like humans laughing privately. A more speculative (猜测的) idea is that, like humans engaging in “self-talk” when separated long-term, Delle might talk to itself due to a lack of social interaction. However, the researchers warned against over-interpreting, as human self- talk is not fully understood.
There’s one other maybe deeper mystery though that the study does not fully answer. Why did Delle decide to go it alone in the cold Baltic Sea in the first place? Was he banned from his group? Did he somehow get lost off course? We will likely never know for sure.
28. What does the author describe in the first paragraph?
A. A safe environment for marine life. B. A lost dolphin returning to his group.
C. A dolphin behaving strangely alone. D. A wandering dolphin across the channel.
29. What does the underlined word “articulate” mean in paragraph 2?
A. Absorb. B. Reflect. C. Transform. D. Release.
30. Which best describes the reasons behind Delle’s vocal behavior?
A. Uncertain. B. Unusual. C. Evident. D. Authoritative.
31. What might be the best title for the text?
A. A Wandering Dolphin Gets Its Name
B. Dolphins Whistle to Show Their Identity
C. Lonely Delle Yells in Baltic Sea for Years
D. Dolphins Self-talk to Get Rid of Loneliness

Stories define people — they shape our relationships, cultures and societies. Unlike other skills replaced by technology, storytelling has remained uniquely human, setting people apart from machines. But now, even storytelling is being challenged. AI, powered by vast datasets, can generate stories that sometimes compete, or even surpass (超越), those written by humans. Besides, AI’s ability to craft compelling, human-like stories also poses a societal risk: the spread of misinformation. Fake news, which once required significant effort, can now be produced with ease. This is especially concerning because decades of research have shown that people are often more influenced by stories than by clear arguments.
Stories offer readers a transportation — the feeling of being transported to and fully engaged in an imagined world. You’ve likely experienced this while losing yourself in the magic world of Harry Potter or 19th-century English society in Pride and Prejudice. This kind of engagement lets you experience new places and understand others’ perspectives, often influencing how you view your own life afterward. When you’re transported by a story, you not only learn by observing, but your doubt is also reduced. You’re so absorbed in the storyline that you let your guard down, allowing the story to influence you without causing doubt in it or the feeling of being controlled.
Given the great influence of stories, can AI tell a good one? Our experiments tested if AI could create engaging stories. We had AI generate three narratives, which over 2,000 participants rated. Regardless of labeling, human-written stories were found more “transporting”. Participants questioned AI stories less and found AI-labeled stories less appealing and more doubtful. Analysis showed AI stories had longer paragraphs, while human stories displayed more stylistic diversity, enhancing engagement. AI writes fluently and believably but lacks creativity and real-life experience.
It’s too early to come to a definitive conclusion about whether AI can eventually be used for high-quality storytelling. For now, screenwriters and novelists aren’t at risk of losing their jobs. AI can tell stories, but they aren’t quite equal to the best human storytellers. Still, as AI continues to develop, we may see more compelling stories generated by machines, which could pose serious challenges.
32. What do we know about AI storytelling?
A. It is unique and innovative. B. It is accurate and promising.
C. It threatens human storytelling. D. It resists real-life experience.
33. What is the second paragraph mainly about?
A. The influential power of stories.
B. The historical context of novels.
C. The emotional connection to fictional worlds.
D. The importance of imagination in storytelling.
34. What is implied in the third paragraph?
A. AI-written stories lack fluency and reliability.
B. Diverse styles improve the reading experience.
C. The variety in writing styles is AI’s strengths.
D. Creativity means longer paragraphs and sentences.
35. What is the author’s attitude towards the stories by AI?
A. Doubtful. B. Unclear. C. Disapproving. D. Objective.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Daily stress can pile up, leading to emotional burnout. ____36____ The good news is that there are many ways to dip into our ability for courage.
See ourselves as courageous. If we describe ourselves as “courageous”, we are more likely to act courageously. We can take time to note all the courageous actions we have already taken in our lives. For example, when we consider how our childhood struggles inform our current relationships with others or how we’ve learned to deal with a health issue, we may be more likely to experience positive emotions and reconnect with personal values and beliefs. ____37____
Look for the heroes. If we are feeling anxious, it can be helpful to draw inspiration from others — whether near or far, real or fictional. The individuals we admire may represent some aspect of our ideal selves as they demonstrate moral courage through difficult times and a desire to do good in the world. ____38____ Studies suggest that seeing images of heroes may move us to sense greater meaning in our lives — and even increase our drive to help others.
Keep trying. ____39____ As our fears lessen, we are more likely to persist in learning — to keep trying despite the obstacles ahead of us. And persistence, as a character strength, can also be modeled, observed and developed. In fact, when adults model persistence in working towards a goal, infants as young as 15 months tend to copy that behavior.
____40____ We can act on our values in community. We are finding courage in groups. We are participating in social and emotional communities of practice, circles of courage, and other “circles” practices to nurture a sense of belonging, find emotional support, and engage in collective action. Social groups like these promote interdependence, social identity, and cohesion and influence courageous behavior, too.
A. Courage explores your strengths.
B. Become part of a social force for courage.
C. Courage at work also requires perseverance.
D. Consider courage to be a foundational virtue.
E. It can lead to a sense of disinterest in our work.
F. They also inspire us to live more meaningful lives.
G. These practices can inspire future courageous behaviors.

The previous day, my friend Joey and I had set out to slip in an overnight while the late- summer Oregon weather was at its finest. Our first choice for a campsite on Mt. Defiance was crowded, so we redirected to nearby Bear Lake, a smaller, less popular location with only one established site. But when we reached the lake, we were disappointed. So we decided to leave our packs on the trail, go separate ways, and search out a prettier, more lonely spot. Of course, it wasn’t smart to leave our packs— map, compass, headlamp, water bottle, everything— behind, but who hasn’t done something like it before?
Almost as soon as I left the trail, I got turned around in the thick forest at dusk. I should have called out to Joey, but I didn’t believe I could really be lost. Instead, I walked to a high point to relocate myself.
As the last of the light faded, I beat a path back towards the trail. I was scanning for our packs when I stepped right off of a high rock and fell 50 feet into a narrow canyon. I heard a snapping sound as I landed legs-first on a pile of rocks, and in the brief moment before I passed out from the pain, I remember one thing: puzzlement.
Over the following two days, I endured unimaginable pain, using every possible means to survive. I ate various berries, avoiding white berries and seeking group-style berries like blackberries and raspberries. I tried eating insects and caterpillars, though these attempts were mostly unsuccessful. As darkness fell quickly in the valley, I piled dry grass over my body to stay warm when temperatures dropped to 40°F. I used pieces of clothing to keep my cut clean.
Meanwhile, when Joey realized I was missing the next morning, he sprang into action. He first checked our signaling devices and extra supplies carefully, knowing their importance. He then retraced our steps as best he could, looking for any sign of me.

1.续写词数应为150个左右;

【67题答案】
【答案】Unable to find me on his own, he made the crucial decision to seek help. He hurried to the nearest point where he could contact local authorities, explaining the situation clearly and providing detailed information about our planned route and the last location he had seen me. He accompanied them on their search in a helicopter, guiding them to the areas we had been in, using his memory and any markings he could recall. His quick thinking and decisive actions were essential in setting the search and rescue operation in motion and giving me a better chance of being found and rescued.
On the third morning, I woke up to the sound of a helicopter. With the last of my strength, I waved a sock to signal for help. Rescue teams, guided by Joey’s detailed information and firm efforts, spotted me. Rescuers reached my location. They provided immediate medical assistance and airlifted me to safety. Joey had worked tirelessly with authorities, retracing our steps and providing crucial details that hastened my rescue. I realized how fragile life is and how Joey’s loyalty and quick actions had saved me. I was filled with gratitude, promising never to take such risks again.
