根据“YOUNG ARTIST EXHIBITION”部分关键句“Each festival we receive hundreds of pieces of artwork created by talented Valley youth who are interested in having their works exhibited for a chance to win a cash prize, and for the opportunity to sell their works (please refer to each nameplate to identify which pieces are for sale). 根据“KIDS BLOCK”部分关键句“A hands-on interactive block for young artists and a youth exhibition featuring over 450 student works from around the Valley - on display and for sale. Born and raised in the Minnesota, she also lived in Bahrain and Egypt and moved to Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), in 2002. As an enthusiastic hiker and mountain climber, she had struggled to find like-minded people to trek (远足) with her, so in 2011 she started a weekend hiking group. A few years later she turned it into a business called Flora UAE Trekkers, running weekend hikes while she continued teaching English in the week. When she lost her job in 2020, she decided to focus her energies on Flora UAE Trekkers, which has now attracted 50,000 followers on social media and offered guided hikes to over 80,000 people. No longer working a nine-to-five at the university, she regularly wakes up at 3 a.m. on weekdays to lead treks around some of the most breathtaking scenery surrounding Dubai. She even offers a specialist sunset hike across the Liwa desert in Abu Dhabi — used as location for filming Dune: Part Two. “I knew that I wanted to create something that encouraged people to get outside and explore what Dubai had to offer outside of the city. From there, it rocketed,” Flora says. “A lot of people in Dubai don’t know there’s anything else outside the city and that there’s so much nature here.” However, the road to success was not always smooth. “Our early challenges were to overcome the stereotype (偏见) of what a hiking guide should look like,” Flora says. “The stereotypical guide has physical strength and places an emphasis on hiking as a tool to improve your fitness, physique and speed.” Going against the grain, Flora employed current and former educators as well as mothers, like herself, as guides. “We really wanted to remove that competitive atmosphere and satisfy all levels, not only for the strong.” Flora says. 4. Why did Flora start a weekend hiking group in 2011? A. To start her own business. B. To meet hiking companions. C. To promote local tourism. D. To grow social media followers. 5. What can be inferred about Dubai from paragraph 3? A. It is a famous filming location. B. It is an innovation center. C. It has beautiful natural scenery. D. It attracts visitors across the globe. 6. Who are most likely to be chosen as guides in Flora UAE Trekkers? A. Professional athletes. B. Experienced hikers. C Adventure enthusiasts. D. Nature-loving caregivers. 7. Which word can best describe Flora? A. Generous. B. Humble. C. Innovative. D. Authoritative. B 5. C 6. D 7. 根据文章第二段“As an enthusiastic hiker and mountain climber, she had struggled to find like-minded people to trek with her, so in 2011 she started a weekend hiking group.”(作为一个热情的徒步旅行者和登山者,她一直在努力寻找志同道合的人一起远足,所以在2011年她开始了一个周末远足小组。) 根据文章第三段“she regularly wakes up at 3 a.m. on weekdays to lead treks around some of the most breathtaking scenery surrounding Dubai.”(她经常在工作日凌晨3点起床,带领远足团体游览迪拜周围一些最令人叹为观止的风景。) 根据文章第三段“she regularly wakes up at 3 a.m. on weekdays to lead treks around some of the most breathtaking scenery surrounding Dubai.”(她经常在工作日凌晨3点起床,带领远足团体游览迪拜周围一些最令人叹为观止的风景。) 根据文章最后一段“Going against the grain, Flora employed current and former educators as well as mothers, like herself, as guides.”(与常规相反,Flora雇用了现任和前任教育工作者以及母亲们,像她一样,作为导游。) 根据文章第三段“I knew that I wanted to create something that encouraged people to get outside and explore what Dubai had to offer outside of the city.”(我知道我想创造一些东西,鼓励人们走出去,探索迪拜在城市之外所提供的东西。) C。 C A new report from the World Wildlife Fund(WWF) and the Zoological Society of London found Earth’s biodiversity (生物多样性) is decreasing through years of data on thousands of wildlife population s across the world. According to the data, animal population s across the world decreased by an average of 69% between 1970 and 2018. Experts say the rapid loss of biodiversity is a serious and worrying sign of what’s to come for the natural world. “The message is clear and the lights are flashing red,” said WWF International Director General Marco Lambertini. Many scientists believe that the main reason of biodiversity drop may be land-use changes driven by human activities such as the development of basic facilities, energy production and deforestation. But the report suggests that climate change, which has had a wide impact on plant and animal species globally, could become the leading cause of biodiversity loss if rising temperatures aren’t limited to 1.5℃. Lambertini said biodiversity loss and climate change are already responsible for a series of problems for humans, including death and homelessness from extreme weather, a lack of food and water and an increase in the spread of specific diseases. But the terrible news comes with signs of hope: Experts say there are possible solutions to the loss of biodiversity. Solutions range from protecting forests to establishing a cross-border trade system in Africa, the report said. WWF chief scientist Rebecca Shaw said that humans have the opportunity to change how they do things to benefit nature. “Little things that we can do every day can change the direction of these population declines,” said Shaw. What little things can be done? For instance, we can start from reducing waste in our daily lives. Simple actions like recycling paper, plastic, and glass can have a profound impact on the environment. By minimizing waste, we lessen the demand for raw materials which in turn reduces the pressure on natural habitats that are often destroyed by the industrial development. 8. How do the experts feel about the rapid loss of biodiversity? A. Anxious. B. Confused. C. Confident. D. Depressed. 9. According to the report, what would contribute to biodiversity loss most? A. Less production of food. B. Developing basic facilities. C. Uncontrolled rising temperatures. D. Declining plant and animal species. 10. What is the main purpose of the 4th paragraph? A. To explore the causes for a range of humans’ problems. B. To introduce some potential methods to promote biodiversity. C. To discuss the importance of the cross-border trade system in Africa. D. To present the problems caused by biodiversity loss and climate change. 11. What is the best title for the passage? A. Pave the Way for a Simple Lifestyle B. Take a Step to Push Energy Production C. Raise the Voice to Ban Land-use Changes D. Lend a Hand to Slower Biodiversity Loss 【答案】8. A 9. C 10. B 11. 根据第二段的“Experts say the rapid loss of biodiversity is a serious and worrying sign of what’s to come for the natural world. “The message is clear and the lights are flashing red,” said WWF International Director General Marco Lambertini.(专家表示,生物多样性的迅速丧失是自然界即将发生的严重而令人担忧的迹象。世界自然基金会国际总干事马尔科·兰贝蒂尼说:“信息很明确,红灯在闪烁。”)”可知,专家说生物多样性的迅速丧失是一个严重且令人担忧的信号。由此可推知,专家们对此感到焦虑。故选A。 根据第三段的“But the report suggests that climate change, which has had a wide impact on plant and animal species globally, could become the leading cause of biodiversity loss if rising temperatures aren’t limited to 1.5℃.(但报告指出,气候变化对全球动植物物种产生了广泛影响,如果气温上升不限于1.5℃,气候变化可能成为生物多样性丧失的主要原因)”可知,不可控制的气温上升对生物多样性丧失的影响最大。 根据第四段的“But the terrible news comes with signs of hope: Experts say there are possible solutions to the loss of biodiversity. Solutions range from protecting forests to establishing a cross-border trade system in Africa, the report said.(但这一糟糕的消息也伴随着希望的迹象:专家表示,对于生物多样性的丧失,存在可能的解决方案。报告称,这些解决方案从保护森林到在非洲建立跨境贸易系统不等)”可知,第四段的目的是介绍一些促进生物多样性的潜在方法。故选B。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段的“A new report from the World Wildlife Fund(WWF) and the Zoological Society of London found Earth’s biodiversity(生物多样性) is decreasing through years of data on thousands of wildlife population s across the world. According to the data, animal population s across the world decreased by an average of 69% between 1970 and 2018.(世界野生动物基金会和伦敦动物学会的一份新报告发现,通过多年来对全球数千只野生动物种群的数据,地球的生物多样性正在减少。根据数据,1970年至2018年间,全球动物种群平均减少了69%)”以及最后一段的“What little things can be done? For instance, we can start from reducing waste in our daily lives.(可以做些什么小事情?例如,我们可以从减少日常生活中的浪费开始)”可知,文章不仅报道了生物多样性丧失的情况,还提到了解决这一问题的可能性,鼓励人们采取行动,从日常小事做起,以改变生物种群下降的趋势。所以“帮助减缓生物多样性的丧失”适合作本文的标题。故选D。 D You may have already seen them in some restaurants around the world; robots. They are about the size of a child. They can welcome people and lead them to their tables. They can deliver food and drinks and bring dirty dishes back to the kitchen. Many people think robot waiters are the answer to worker shortages. Sales of robots have been growing in recent years. There are tens of thousands of them now moving through eating places worldwide. But others say robot waiters still have a long way to go before they can replace humans. They cannot take orders. And they cannot walk up steps to different areas of a restaurant. Still the use of robots is growing. In Madison Heights, Michigan, Li Zhai was having trouble finding workers for his restaurant Noodle Topia in the summer of 2021. So, he bought a robot from Pudu Robotics. The robot was so successful that he added two more; now, one robot leads diners to their seats while another delivers food to tables. And his employees load dirty dishes onto the third robot to bring them back to the kitchen. Zhai said he now needs three people to do the same work that five or six people used to do. And they save him money. A robot costs around $15,000, he said, but a person costs him $5,000 to $6,000 per month. Zhai noted that the robots give his human servers more time to spend with diners, which increases tips. And diners often post videos of the robots on social media, which leads to more visits. “Besides saving labor, the robots benefit business,” he said. But not all restaurants have had success with robots. Chili’s introduced a robot server in 2020. The restaurant company expanded the test to 61 U.S. restaurants before suddenly stopping last August. Chili’s found that the robot moved too slowly and got in the way of human servers. And 58 percent of guests surveyed said robots did not improve their overall experience. 12. What is Li Zhai’s third robot used to do? A. Lead diners to their seats. B. Deliver food to tables. C. Take orders from customers. D. Carry away dirty dishes. 13. What do Li Zhai’s words mainly tell us in Paragraph 5? A. The popularity of robots. B. The low prices of robots. C. The advantages of using robots. D. The impression of robots on people. 14. Why did Chili’s give up robot servers? A. They broke down easily. B. They didn’t work well enough. C. They often made big mistakes. D. They couldn’t understand customers’ demand. 15. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. Are Robot Waiters the Future? B. Will Human Servers Lose Jobs? C. Robots Will Never Replace Humans D. Robot Services Are Better Than Humans 【答案】12 D 13. C 14. B 15. 根据第四段中“And his employees load dirty dishes onto the third robot to bring them back to the kitchen. (他的员工把脏盘子放到第三个机器人上,它把这些盘子带回厨房。)”可知,第三个机器人通常把用过的盘子拿走。故选D项。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第五段“Zhai said he now needs three people to do the same work that five or six people used to do. 根据最后一段中“Chili’s found that the robot moved too slowly and got in the way of human servers. And 58 percent of guests surveyed said robots did not improve their overall experience.(Chili’s餐厅发现机器人移动太慢,挡住了人类服务员的去路。 故选A项。 At some point in our lives, we all need to influence and encourage others, including our team at work, friends and family, or club members. But this time, her granny was so sick, and couldn’t get out of bed! “Don’t worry,” Nala told her granny, “I’ll look after everything!” She knew how to feed all the animals: it was easy! The chickens and ducks had pellets (丸). The horse had oats (燕麦). There was plenty of grass for the four sheep and the goat. She could also water the vegetables and collect eggs from the chicken coop. “What a great help you are,” Grandma said when Nala brought her a bowl of soup for lunch. “It’s no trouble!” Nala smiled. “I’ll have to get up soon,” Grandma sighed. “Nanny will need milking.” Nanny the goat had to be milked every day. In fact, she would come outside and bleat (咩咩叫) when it was time! But Nala thought that her granny still looked pale and shaky… “I can do it!” Nala said confidently. She hadn’t tried milking yet, but she had watched Grandma closely! Grandma would always put on her special dress and straw hat, get the bucket from the tool shed (棚), get Nanny to the milking shed, and get everything done. When Nanny bleated to be milked, Nala went out to see her. She expected the goat to follow her to the milking shed like she did with Grandma, but the animal just stood there. “Come on, Nanny,” Nala said. “I’m milking you today. Grandma’s sick, so we have to work together.” Nanny just bleated impatiently, moving her feet uncomfortably. “Maybe I need to speak more firmly,” Nala thought. “Now listen, Nanny. I want you to follow me to the milking shed, right now!” But Nanny trotted away across the yard! “Hey, come back here!” Nala called. Nanny stopped and turned around. She didn’t like this little stranger. Grandma never yelled at her! At that moment Nala had a think. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Just then, she spotted Grandma’s dresses and the straw hat hanging over a chair. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】At that moment Nala had a think. Maybe she could trick Nanny to the shed with food! She pulled up a big bunch of grass and walked towards Nanny with her hand outstretched. She gazed at Nanny murmuring “Come on! Nanny!” Nanny stared at her. Nevertheless, when Nala was two steps away, the goat skipped out of reach abruptly again. Nala chased. To show her disapproval, Nanny clattered across the yard, stopped and gazed back at Nala. Frustrated, Nala threw the grass down and trudged over to Grandma’s tool shed! Her cheeks were red and her ears felt as if they were burning when she glared at Nanny. However, she didn’t want to tell Grandma that a goat had got the better of her. Just then, she spotted Grandma’s dresses, and the straw hat hanging over a chair. It dawned on her that she could dress herself up as Grandma! Then, she got changed. Nanny was still bleating furiously when she saw a seemingly familiar figure leave the house and walk towards the milking shed in familiar dress, apron, and straw hat. Her ears flicked and she gave a gentle bleat. That must be Grandma, ready to do the milking! Nala glanced over her shoulder to see Nanny trotting after her. This time, Nanny didn’t object when she was milked. Chuckling secretly, Nala quickly mastered the art of milking. Soon, creamy milk splashed into the bucket. The girl grinned, for Nanny had mistaken her as her granny! 词汇激活: 行为类 ①哄骗:trick/deceive ②追逐:chase/pursue/run after ③反对:object/oppose 情绪类 ①沮丧:frustrated/disappointed ②窃笑:chuckle secretly/snicker 【点睛】[高分句型1] Nevertheless, when Nala was two steps away, the goat skipped out of reach abruptly again.(运用了从属连词when引导时间状语从句) [高分句型2] It dawned on her that she could dress herself up as Grandma!(运用了it作形式主语和连词that引导的主语从句作真正主语) [高分句型3] Nanny was still bleating furiously when she saw a seemingly familiar figure leave the house and walk towards the milking shed in familiar dress, apron, and straw hat.(运用了从属连词when引导时间状语从句) 1-20 BCABABAACCABBACCBCBA 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 衡南县高一期末考试试卷 英语 注意事项:请考生把答案写在答题卡上。 1. C. Adventure enthusiasts. D. Nature-loving caregivers. 7. Which word can best describe Flora? A. Generous. B. Humble. C. Innovative. D. Authoritative. C A new report from the World Wildlife Fund(WWF) and the Zoological Society of London found Earth’s biodiversity (生物多样性) is decreasing through years of data on thousands of wildlife population s across the world. 8. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 1-20 BCABABAACCABBACCBCBA 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
