(2024·四川绵阳·一模)Renée Forrestall had no idea what was in store for her when she decided to relearn roller skating in the days for 60th birthday. This high school art teacher wanted to buy a new pair of skates, but she was shocked to learn how much they cost. To find a less-expensive pair, she considered searching in online secondhand shops.
A few days later, she found that a man named James Bond was hoping to sell an old pair of skates for $40. Bond had no idea what size they were, but he posted a picture of them next to a ruler, showing that they were about 25cm long.
It seemed to be the right size for Forrestall. Two days later, she drove to Bond’s house and learned that the skates had been sitting in his basement for decades (几十年). They looked very dirty and yellowed with age; the laces (鞋带) were missing and the wheels were rock-hard. But none of that mattered after Forrestall tried them on. She slid her feet into them and they fitted like a glove.
To her surprise, they felt just like the skates that her mother bought for her decades earlier. When pulling off the skates, Forrestall was shocked to see her name written in black marker inside them. She quickly recalled how she used to skate by herself for hours on end. (2024·广东汕头·一模)“With the development of the Internet of Things (物联网), chips (芯片) will be everywhere in the future from a cup to a car,” said Bao Yungang, a professor in a famous university. For example, a smart cup will need chips to tell people the temperature of the water in it. A smart lamp will also need chips to help students mark their homework, or warn people when their sitting positions are not correct.
One of the biggest trends (趋势) will be “open source chips”. It means that the designs of chips will be open for others to copy so that new tech companies and researchers can make their own chips more easily.
“The needs for chips will become increasingly diversified (多元化的), but it’s a challenge for companies to make so many chips at a low cost,” Bao said. If more people get important tools, they can design chips based on their specific needs. With open sources, people can also put efforts together to solve common problems.
Another trend will be “chiplets (小芯片)”. Most of the chips today use a single piece of semiconductor die(半导体裸片). But chiplets are much smaller dies. They are designed to be combined (合并) with other chiplets. Put together in different ways, chiplets can form a more powerful chip. “It makes the chip producing more flexible, since you can put chips of different functions together,” said Bao. “It also reduces the time and the costs.”
In the future, the number of devices (设备) connected to the Internet will reach 50 billion at the end of 2030. Meanwhile, it will hopefully lead to a much more convenient, smarter future.

C.People can make their own chips more easily without the designs of chips open.
D.50 billion devices will be connected to the Internet worldwide at the end of 2030.

She enjoyed dancing very much, so when she had to start 13 that evening while her friends were ready to go to the dance, she felt very 14 for herself. She went to each sick child one after another and said good night. 15 she came to a little boy called Tommy. Tommy was only 11 years old, but he already talked like a(an) 16 . Poor Tommy had a very serious illness, and now he was hardly able to 17 any part of his body except his hands. But he was always happy and always thinking about others instead of himself.
When Jenny came up to his bed, he said, “I’m very sorry that you have to 18 the dance because of us. But we’re going to have a party for you. If you look in my drawer (抽屉), you’ll find a piece of cake. I 19 it from my supper today, so it’s quite 20 .” “And I’d get up and dance with you myself if I was able to,” he added.
Suddenly the hospital dance seemed very far away and not at all important to Jenny.

When pulling off the skates, Forrestall was shocked to see her name written in black marker inside them. She quickly recalled how she used to skate by herself for hours on end. (2024·福建莆田·一模)Thousands of earthquakes happen every day, causing serious damage (伤害). Here are some tips on how to stay safe in earthquakes. If you are indoors
Take cover under a strong desk, table, or bench, or against an inside wall. If there is no desk or table near you, cover your face and head with your arms and crouch (俯身) in an inside corner of the building.
Stay inside until the shaking stops and it is safe to go outside. Most injuries during earthquakes occur when people are hit by falling objects while entering or leaving buildings.
Be aware that electricity may go out or that sprinkler systems (自动喷淋装置) or fire alarms may turn on.
Do not use elevators. If you are outdoors
Stay there
Move away from buildings, trees, streetlights, and utility wires (电线电缆).If you are in a moving car
Stop as quickly as possible, pull to the side of the road, and stay in the car. Avoid stopping near or under buildings, trees, overpasses (立交桥), and utility wires. Do not attempt to drive across bridges or overpasses that have been damaged. If you are trapped under debris (被困废墟下)
Do not light a match. Do not move about or kick up dust (粉尘). Cover your mouth with a handkerchief (手帕) or clothing. Tap on a pipe or wall so that rescuers can find you. Use a whistle (哨子) if one is available. Shout only as a last resort (最后一招)—shouting can cause you to inhale dangerous amounts of dust.

36.Where can chips be used in the future according to the passage?
A.In a car. B.In a cup. C.In a lamp. D.Everywhere.
37.What does the underlined word “flexible” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A.Enjoyable. B.Changeable. C.Colorful. D.Different.
38.How many trends of chips are mentioned in the passage?
A.One. B.Two. C.Three. D.Four.
39.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.Anyone can design chips perfectly based on their specific needs.
B.It’s easy for companies to make so many chips at a low cost.
C.People can make their own chips more easily without the designs of chips open.
D.50 billion devices will be connected to the Internet worldwide at the end of 2030.
40.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.How people will use chips in the future. B.Chips will change the way we live.
C.Chips will change everything in the future. D.What the chip industry will look like in the future.
