She is the first nurse from China to win this important prize. But it’s not the first time she received an award. In 2003, she was given the Florence Nightingale Medal. (弗罗伦斯·南丁格尔奖章)
Zhang was born in 1929 into a rich family in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province. By chance, she read about Florence Nightingale. After reading about her, Zhang decided to become a nurse, too.

In 2010, Zhang made another group in Nanchang named after Florence Nightingale. Four years later, she made a group named after herself. Now, around 20,000 volunteers help people for free because of Zhang.
