Many of us love sweet, carbonated drinks — even though we know they’re not good for our teeth or our bodies. But a large new study has found that they could be bad for our minds, too. Researchers from South Korea have found that drinking more sugar-filled, carbonated drinks is linked to an increased risk of depression.
The team looked at data from more than 87, 000 people in South Korea, with an average age of about 40. Participants were asked about their consumption of sugar-sweetened carbonated drinks over a week. They were then put into groups based on their consumption, from people who almost never drank them — less than one 200ml serving per week—to those who drank five or more servings per week. The researchers compared this with people’s scores on a questionnaire designed to check for symptoms (症状) of depression.
The study found that depressive symptoms increased proportionally (成比例地) with consumption of sweet, carbonated drinks. “Even the group that consumed sugar-sweetened carbonated drinks at least once a week had a higher look through of depressive symptoms than the group that did not drink at all.” said Ju Young Jung, one of the authors.
The results were not affected when taking obesity (肥胖) into account, the researchers said. They said they were a little surprised to see such clear results — South Koreans don’t usually have sugary drinks as often as people in places like Europe and the US. However, they said South Koreans and others in Asia are increasingly replacing water with sugary drinks — and the study found that about one third of participants consumed these drinks more than once a week.
Jung said the team wasn’t sure exactly why sugary drinks are linked to depression, although their results are similar to those from some recent, smaller studies. The study did not consider zero-calorie drinks, but Jung said more research would be needed to look at the effect of zero-calorie drinks.
24.What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.The limits of the study. B.The finding of the study..
C.The purpose of the study. D.The process of the study.
25.What made the researchers surprised?
A.The participants are so crazy about sugary drinks.
B.Sugary drinks are getting popular in South Korea.
C.Sugary carbonated drinks can increase the risk of depression.
D.People in South Korea have no interest in sugary drinks.
26.What can we conclude from the last paragraph?
A.Why sugary drinks cause depression is clear. B.The team had carried out similar studies before.
C.All kinds of drinks were included in the study. D.More studies about drinks will be carried out.
27.What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A.To offer advice on health. B.To introduce a science study.
C.To reveal a science phenomenon. D.To advertise a new product.

Agnes de Mille was a dancer and a choreographer (编舞). Early in her career, de Mille had created the choreography for a ballet called Three Virgins and a Devil. She thought it was good work, but nobody made much of it.
A few years later, de Mille choreographed a ballet named Rodeo. Again, she thought her work was solid, but it resulted in little commercial fame.
Then, in 1943, de Mille choreographed Oklahoma!, a musical show that enjoyed nearly instant success. In the coming years, Oklahoma! would run for an incredible 2,212 performances, both around the nation and abroad. In 1955, the film version won an Academy Award.
But the success of Oklahoma! didn’t bring her much happiness. She thought that her work on Oklahoma! was only average compared to some of her other creations. She later said, “After the opening of Oklahoma!, I suddenly had unexpected success for a work I thought was only fairly good, after years of neglect for work I thought was fine. I began to think that perhaps my entire scale of values was untrustworthy. I talked to Martha.”
Martha was Martha Graham, perhaps the most influential dance choreographer of the 20th century. Although not as well-known by the general public, Graham has been compared to other creative geniuses like Picasso or Frank Lloyd Wright.
During their conversation, de Mille told Martha Graham about her frustration. “I confessed that I had a burning desire to be excellent, but no faith that I could be.”
Graham responded by saying:
“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open.”
28.What can be learned about de Mille’s ballet named Rodeo?
A.It earned her a large fortune. B.It didn’t enjoy much success.
C.It made her rise to fame overnight. D.It laid a solid foundation for her career.
29.How did de Mille feel about the great success of the musical Oklahoma!?
A.Confused. B.Ashamed. C.Relieved. D.Proud.
30.Which of the following statements best represents Graham’s words in this passage?
A.Comparing with others prevents you from maintaining uniqueness.
B.Your action reveals the inner landscape, which is the soul of music.
C.Choosing to be positive is going to determine how you live your life.
D.You should always keep yourself open to the urges that motivate you.

AI is deeply changing the way we produce and work, including improving production efficiency, optimizing workflow and enhancing work efficiency. It also involves in medical care, education, transportation and other fields. Be that as it may, what about the downsides? Two experts weigh in.
A recent study showed that one of the most popular AI chatbots has been sharing inaccurate coding and computer programming advice. This is because generative AI applications such as large language models work, functionally, as a prediction program. When you ask a question, the AI sifts through (细查) its knowledge base for relevant information. Then, using that information, it predicts a set of words that it perceives as the desired response to your question. That prediction is followed by another prediction — another set of words — that it has been trained to expect should come next, and so on.
But Rayid Ghani, a professor of Machine Learning Department, says that process puts greater emphasis on probability than truth: Most generative AI models have been trained on large scale of data from across the Internet, but nobody has checked the accuracy of those data, nor does the AI understand what is or isn’t a trustworthy source.
When humans make mistakes, Ghani says, it’s easy for us to empathize (共鸣), since we recognize that people aren’t perfect beings. But we expect our machines to be correct. That makes it very hard for us to forgive AI when it gets things wrong. But empathy can be a powerful debugging tool: These are human-made systems, after all.
AI has a water problem — really, an energy problem. A significant amount of heat is generated by the energy required to power the AI tools that people are increasingly using in their daily personal and professional lives. As Shaolei Ren, an associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, is quick to note, cooling down the data centers requires an enormous amount of water, similar to the amount used by tens of thousands of city dwellers (居民). Ren believes it will be important for us as individuals and as a society to better understand the real cost of asking an application like ChatGPT a question.
31.Which of the following would Ghani probably agree with?
A.AI applications serve as large language models.
B.The prediction process of AI is simplified.
C.Humans have tolerance for mistakes of AI.
D.AI models attach greater importance to relevance than precision.
32.What is Ghani’s attitude towards AI?
A.Cautious. B.Indifferent. C.Content. D.Biased.
33.What can we learn about AI from the last paragraph?
A.AI tools are increasingly generating massive water in daily life.
B.The amount of water consumed by AI is equal to that used by citizens.
C.We are supposed to be aware of the environmental impact of AI.
D.Individuals and society should reduce the cost of using AI.
34.What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A.To give a brief account of AI. B.To illustrate big issues regarding AI.
C.To honor two outstanding AI experts. D.To clarify the current situation of AI.
We all wish for the arrival of Sunday. 35 The hard work of a busy week is soothed (抚慰) by a good sleep that lasts, in most cases, till the Sunday afternoon. But after that, too much sleep can make the rest of the day generally end in lazing on the sofa, without doing anything.
Therefore, to really relax on a Sunday, the answer doesn’t lie in sleep, but in doing things that make you feel comfortable. Most often we get so lost in work that when Sunday comes, we really don’t know what to do with the free twenty-four hours we’ve got.
36 Luckily, there are many things you can do to enjoy your Sunday. 37 An early morning walk or jog would ease your tiredness caused by the daily schedule. After the morning walk or jog, you’ll have more energy to face the day.
You must have bought a lot of books on your last visit to the bookstore, but lack of time must have prevented you from reading. Spend the Sunday afternoon reading any book that interests you. 38 .
With life being filled with too much work, finding free time during the working days is surely a struggle. 39 In such a case, Sunday is the best day to roll up your sleeves, and get to work on the house. Clean the house, wash the clothes or mend anything that is broken. In short, making the house clean and tidy is a good idea of spending Sundays.
A.By the time we decide to do anything, the day gets over.
B.Everyone can safely hope to relax and simply do as they please this day.
C.All the hope of joy and enjoyment rests on Saturdays.
D.In this way, you’ll not only have spent a constructive time, but also exercise your brain.
E.Consider using this day to take care of your plants and flowers.
F.If you want to enjoy Sunday, then you’d better wake up early and go for a walk or a jog.
G.What’s more, it’s natural that your house gets dusty and messy.
Teenagers are learning new communication skills every day. It is important for them to have opportunities to network, or to meet and get to know new people. Online networking, which is very popular with teens today, makes short, superficial connections. But offline networking better encourages meaningful connections that will increase hope, develop skills, and open avenues to career opportunity. Teens need to practice more offline networking. It will prepare them to be confident face-to-face communicators in the real world.
A survey of almost 7,000 teens was conducted in 2019 by three Swiss researchers, and they found that teens were spending too much time on social networking sites. So, they suggested that teens should spend more time with others in real life. It not only contributes to a stronger sense of identity and a happier mood, but also gives us the chance to share happiness with other people. In other words, offline networking seems to actually benefit a teen’s emotional health.
Face-to-face communication also gives teens an opportunity to learn to read people. Everyone communicates in person differently than communicating over the phone, through texting, or in online posts. Being face-to-face requires a person to think and respond more quickly—without the safety net of a delete key.
And much of our communication is nonverbal anyway. Facial expressions, gestures, and vocal tones are just a few examples. Teens need to have face-to-face interactions so they can learn to read these nonverbal cues (暗示), which are sometimes even more important than the words a person is saying. A time will come when the teen will need to enter the job market, and this usually means a face-to-face interaction, including interacting naturally with customers, hearing and understanding their words as well as their nonverbal cues in many different kinds of businesses.
Offline networking is important because it can improve a teenager’s well-being and help prepare him for the future. That’s why every teen should spend time practicing real-world interactions.
40.What is the disadvantage of online networking?
41.What was the researchers’ suggestion to teens?
42.Please decide which part is false in the following statement, then underline it and explain why.
Hearing and understanding what a person is saying is necessarily involved in communication, so people get less from nonverbal expressions.
43.In addition to the benefits mentioned in the passage, what do you think are some other benefits of face-to-face communication? (about 40 words)

D

根据文章第一段“But a large new study has found that they could be bad for our minds, too. Researchers from South Korea have found that drinking more sugar-filled, carbonated drinks is linked to an increased risk of depression.(但一项新的大型研究发现,它们也可能对我们的大脑有害。韩国研究人员发现,多喝含糖碳酸饮料会增加患抑郁症的风险)”可知,本文主要介绍了一项关于含糖碳酸饮料与抑郁症之间联系的科学研究,因此文章的目的是介绍一项科学研究。故选B。

【答案】28.B 29.A 30.D
根据文章第二段“A few years later, de Mille choreographed a ballet named Rodeo. Again, she thought her work was solid, but it resulted in little commercial fame.(几年后,德米尔编舞了芭蕾舞剧Rodeo。同样,她认为她的作品是可靠的,但这导致了很少的商业名声)”可知,德米尔编的芭蕾舞Rodeo并没有获得多少成功。故选B。
29.推理判断题。根据文章第四段“But the success of Oklahoma! didn’t bring her much happiness. She thought that her work on Oklahoma! was only average compared to some of her other creations.(但是Oklahoma!的成功没给她带来多少快乐。她认为她在Oklahoma!上工作和她的其他作品相比,只是中等水平)”及“I began to think that perhaps my entire scale of values was untrustworthy.(我开始想,也许我的整个价值观都是不可信的)”可推知,自己不看好的作品却大受欢迎,这一点让德米尔感到不理解和困惑。故选A。
根据文章最后一段“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique.(有一种活力,一种生命力,一种能量,一种加速,通过你转化为行动,因为在所有的时间里只有一个你,这种表达是独一无二的)”及“It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open.(判断它的好坏、价值或是与其他表达方式相比如何,都不是你的分内事。你的分内事是清楚而直接地保持它的所有权,保持沟通的渠道畅通)”可知,Graham认为应该让内在的行动力驱动自己,并保持开放的状态,D选项“你应该总是让自己对那些激励你的冲动保持开放”符合他话里的意思。故选D。

【答案】31.D 32.A 33.C 34.B
根据文章第三段“Most generative AI models have been trained on large scale of data from across the Internet, but nobody has checked the accuracy of those data, nor does the AI understand what is or isn’t a trustworthy source.(大多数生成性人工智能模型是在大规模的互联网数据上进行训练的,但没有人检查这些数据的准确性,AI也不明白什么是值得信赖的来源)”可推知,Ghani认为AI模型更重视相关性,而非精准性。故选D。
根据文章第三段“But Rayid Ghani, a professor of Machine Learning Department, says that process puts greater emphasis on probability than truth(但是机器学习系的教授Rayid Ghani说,这个过程更强调概率而不是真相)”,可知,Ghani认为AI更注重概率而不是事实,这反映了他对AI的态度是谨慎的。故选A
根据文章最后一段“AI has a water problem— really, an energy problem. A significant amount of heat is generated by the energy required to power the AI tools that people are increasingly using in their daily personal and professional lives. As Shaolei Ren, an associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, is quick to note, cooling down the data centers requires an enormous amount of water, similar to the amount used by tens of thousands of city dwellers(居民). Ren believes it will be important for us as individuals and as a society to better understand the real cost of asking an application like ChatGPT a question.(人工智能有水资源问题——实际上是能源问题。人们在日常个人和职业生活中越来越多地使用人工智能工具,为这些工具提供动力所需的能量产生了大量的热量。电气与计算机工程副教授任少雷很快就指出,为数据中心降温需要大量的水,相当于数万城市居民的用水量。Ren认为,对于我们个人和社会来说,更好地了解向ChatGPT这样的应用程序提问的实际成本是很重要的。)”可推知,人们应该意识到AI对环境的影响。故选C。
34.推理判断题。根据全文内容尤其是第一段“AI is deeply changing the way we produce and work, including improving production efficiency, optimizing workflow and enhancing work efficiency. It also involves in medical care, education, transportation and other fields. Be that as it may, what about the downsides?
【答案】35.B 36.A 37.F 38.D 39.G
35.根据空格前一句“We all wish for the arrival of Sunday.”(我们都希望星期天到来。)和空格后一句“The hard work of a busy week is soothed (抚慰) by a good sleep that lasts, in most cases, till the Sunday afternoon. ”(忙碌一周的辛苦工作可以通过良好的睡眠得到缓解,在大多数情况下,睡眠可以持续到周日下午。),可知本空应是表明周日的重要性,B项(今天,每个人都可以放心地希望放松,随心所欲。)符合要求。故选B。
36.根据空格前一句“Most often we get so lost in work that when Sunday comes, we really don’t know what to do with the free twenty-four hours we’ve got.”(大多数时候,我们在工作中迷失了方向,以至于当星期天来临时,我们真的不知道如何利用我们的24小时空闲时间。) 故选A。
37.根据空后的“An early morning walk or jog would ease your tiredness caused by the daily schedule.”(清晨散步或慢跑可以缓解你因日常日程安排而产生的疲劳。)
38.根据前文“ Spend the Sunday afternoon reading any book that interests you.”(把周日下午的时间花在阅读任何你感兴趣的书上。)
39.根据空格前一句“With life being filled with too much work, finding free time during the working days is surely a struggle.”(由于生活中充满了太多的工作,在工作日找到空闲时间肯定是一场斗争。)和后一句“In such a case, Sunday is the best day to roll up your sleeves, and get to work on the house.”(在这种情况下,周日是卷起袖子开始整理房子的最好日子。)
40.Online networking makes short, superficial connections. 41.They suggested that teens should spend more time with others in real life. 42.Hearing and understanding what a person is saying is necessarily involved in communication, so people get less from nonverbal expressions. 43.Many friends and romantic partners begin with face-to-face conversations, and many big business deals begin with face-to-face conversations. The best negotiations are always face-to-face. No matter how much you can chat online, it doesn't feel as real as a face-to-face conversation. It is easy to fake on the Internet and there are more tricks online, but it is easier to see a person's heart when chatting face to face.
根据第一段“Online networking, which is very popular with teens today, makes short, superficial connections.”(如今在青少年中非常流行的在线网络,只会产生短暂的、肤浅的联系)可知,网络社交的缺点是在线社交只建立简短、肤浅的联系。所以填Online networking makes short, superficial connections.
They suggested that teens should spend more time with others in real life.
根据倒数第二段“Teens need to have face-to-face interactions so they can learn to read these nonverbal cues (暗示), which are sometimes even more important than the words a person is saying.”(青少年需要面对面的交流,这样他们才能学会阅读这些非语言线索,有时这些线索甚至比一个人说的话更重要)可推知,听和理解一个人在说什么在交流中是必不可少的,所以人们从非语言表达中得到更多,而不是更少。
Many friends and romantic partners begin with face-to-face conversations, and many big business deals begin with face-to-face conversations. The best negotiations are always face-to-face. No matter how much you can chat online, it doesn't feel as real as a face-to-face conversation. It is easy to fake on the Internet and there are more tricks online, but it is easier to see a person's heart when chatting face to face.
1、家庭;
2、工作;
注意:1、词数100左右;
2、可适当增加细节,以使行文连贯;
My life in 20 years
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
My life in 20 years
In the morning, I wake up as usual and my bed tells me I’m in perfect condition, and that my family are waiting for me to have breakfast.
After breakfast, I begin a day’s work. As a program designer in a computer company, I do my job at home with the help of AI, sometimes having a video meeting with my workmates. With my job done, I begin my regular exercise to keep fit. When the sun is setting, transported by our private flying car to the seaside, my whole family are having a good time on the soft beach.
This is one regular day in twenty years. My family live a convenient and comfortable life, and we decide to take our vacation on the moon next month.
