例如,如果首句提到“the twins carried the breakfast upstairs and woke their mother up”,后续段落可以描述他们如何向母亲展示早餐,以及母亲的反应。
例如,如果首句提到“we had no idea where we were and it was getting dark”,后续段落可以描述我们如何在森林中迷路,以及最终如何找到出路。
例如,如果首句提到“at last, the town came into view but the sledge gave strange sounds”,后续段落可以描述这辆运货雪橇在到达小镇时发出奇怪声音的原因,以及它如何影响了小镇上的人们。
Para1:But no more helicopters came and it was getting dark again. Immediately, an absolute darkness ruled the forest.
【分析】用时间时间副词承接所给首句中的“it getting dark again”,同时衔接后文的环境描写“the darkness ruled the forest”。
(1)Para 1: But no more helicopters came and it was getting dark again. Desperate and hopeless, Jane knelt down, tears streaming down her face.
(2)Para 2: It was daybreak when Jane woke up. Weak as she was, she struggled to her feet, continuing searching for assistance.
(3)Para 1: Suddenly a little rabbit jumped out in front of my horse. Afraid that I might hurt the lovely small creature, I automatically let out a cry to stop my horse.
(4)Para 2: We had no idea where we were and it got dark. Exhausted and hungry, I wondered if we could find our way back.
(1)Para1: But no more helicopters came and it was getting dark again. Feeling disappointed, Jane had to stay alone for another night.
(2)Para 2: It was daybreak when Jane woke up. Feeling refreshed, she continued to walk along the stream to find the way out.
Para 1: The car abruptly stopped in front of him. "Get into the car." Paul shouted at Mac.
Para 2: We drove through several states and saw lots of great sights along the way. I looked out of the car window, winding rivers, lofty mountains, sunny beaches and deep valleys holding me entirely in their fascination.
Para 1: The next day we remembered the brand-new tent we had brought with us. Dad exchanged a glance with me. Why not camp to satisfy Mom?
BOOM, CRASH! The wind was howling outside of my house. We were having a terrible thunder storm. I was very scared.
Why does trouble always follow me around? Do I have a "kick me" sign on my back or something?

When I was in middle school, my social studies teacher asked me to enter a writing contest. I said no without thinking. I did not love writing. My family came from Brazil, so English was only my second language. Writing was so difficult and painful for me that my teacher had allowed me to present my paper on the sinking of the Titanic by acting out a play, where I played all the parts. No one laughed harder than he did.
So, why did he suddenly force me to do something at which I was sure to fail? His reply: “Because I love your stories. If you’re willing to apply yourself, I think you have a good shot at this.” Encouraged by his words, I agreed to give it a try.
I chose Paul Revere’s horse as my subject. Paul Revere was a silversmith (银匠) in Boston who rode a horse at night on April 18, 1775 to Lexington to warn people that British soldiers were coming. My story would come straight from the horse’s mouth. Not a brilliant idea, but funny; and unlikely to be anyone else’s choice.
What did the horse think, as he sped through the night? Did he get tired? Have doubts? Did he want to quit? I sympathized immediately. I got tired. I had doubts. I wanted to quit. But, like Revere’s horse, I kept going. I worked hard. I checked my spelling. I asked my older sister to correct my grammar. I checked out a half dozen books on Paul Revere from the library. I even read a few of them.
When I handed in the essay to my teacher, he read it, laughed out loud, and said, “Great. Now, write it again.” I wrote it again, and again and again. When I finally finished it, the thought of winning had given way to the enjoyment of writing. If I didn’t win, I wouldn’t care.

1. 续写词数应为150个左右;

A few weeks later, when I almost forgot the contest, there came the news. I was informed that I won the first prize in the writing contest and that there would be an award presentation in two days. I was so happy to hear the news that I immediately shared it with my teacher. “I knew you’d win! I am proud of you. You made it!” he said excitedly. Then came the big day. When I was invited to the stage to receive the award, I expressed my thanks to my teacher. I said, “It’s you who make me fall in love with writing, my social studies teacher. Without your recognition and guidance, I couldn’t have written this article. Again thank you very much!”
I went to my teacher’s office after the award presentation. My teacher was waiting for me. Holding my hands, he said “Congratulations! You are a good writer, so keep writing.” “You know I didn’t like writing before, but now I am crazy about it! I will try my best to create good works.” I said seriously. Since then, I have written many good works and now I am a famous writer. I owe my success to my social teacher who is a beacon in my life on the road to writing.
I was invited to a cookout on an old friend’s farm in western Washington. I parked my car outside the farm and walked past a milking house which had apparently not been used in many years. A noise at a window caught my attention, so I entered it. It was a hummingbird (蜂鸟), desperately trying to escape. She was covered in spider-webs (蛛网) and was barely able to move her wings. She ceased her struggle the instant I picked her up.
With the bird in my cupped hand, I looked around to see how she had gotten in. The broken window glass was the likely answer. I stuffed a piece of cloth into the hole and took her outside, closing the door securely behind me.
When I opened my hand, the bird did not fly away; she sat looking at me with her bright eyes. I removed the sticky spider-webs that covered her head and wings. Still, she made no attempt to fly. Perhaps she had been struggling against the window too long and was too tired? Or too thirsty?
As I carried her up the blackberry-lined path toward my car where I kept a water bottle, she began to move. I stopped, and she soon took wing but did not immediately fly away.
Hovering (悬停), she approached within six inches of my face. For a very long moment, this tiny creature looked into my eyes, turning her head from side to side. Then she flew quickly out of sight.
During the cookout, I told my hosts about the hummingbird incident. They promised to fix the window. As I was departing, my friends walked me to my car. I was standing by the car when a hummingbird flew to the center of our group and began hovering. She turned from person to person until she came to me. She again looked directly into my eyes, then let out a squeaking call and was gone. For a moment, all were speechless. Then someone said, “She must have come to say goodbye.”
注意:
1. 续写词数应为 150 左右;
A few weeks later, I went to the farm again.

I was just about to leave when the hummingbird appeared.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph l: A few weeks later, I went to the farm again.
Paragraph 2: I was just about to leave when the hummingbird appeared.
I, the farm
I, the hummingbird
I, the farm:
Paragraph l: A few weeks later, I went to the farm again. Having parked car outside the farm, I stepping on the blackberry-lined path and passed the milking house.
Paragraph 2: I was just about to leave when the hummingbird appeared. She was flying over and hovering in front of me.
A few weeks later, I went to the farm again. As my car neared it my thoughts drifted back to the moment when I rescued the hummingbird from the spider’s web. I rushed back to the deserted house. It was a great comfort that the original hole in the window was nowhere to be found. Leaving the house, I couldn’t help wondering how it was getting on now. Had it managed to find its way back home, or was it still out there somewhere struggling to survive?
I was just about to leave when the hummingbird appeared. A flash of movement caught my attention. I turned around to see the same hummingbird hovering in the air. It seemed that the bird was waiting for me, its beady eyes locked on mine as if trying to convey some deep, unspoken gratitude. I felt a surge of relief and awe at the sight of this sound and grateful creature, and I knew that I would always cherish the memories we shared as I climbed into my car and drove away.
My husband and I enjoy seeing life through the eyes of our children. It’s amazing to watch as they discover their world.
While we were outdoors last summer enjoying the sunshine, our oldest daughter, Kaytlin, called me to the doorway. Beneath the steps was a baby red squirrel.
We watched it from a distance, not wanting to disturb it or scare off its mother. But after a long wait—and looking all around our house for signs of a nest or a mother—we realized the tiny squirrel was lost.
Shaking terribly, he was weak, thin, and hungry. We tried to find an expert to help, but the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife website showed that there were no wildlife experts in our area. After some quick research, we concluded that the best way to give the squirrel a fighting chance was to care for him ourselves. So a trip to the local store for milk and supplies was in order. More research taught us how much to feed him, how to estimate his age, how and when to wean (断奶) him, and that we should let him go as soon as he could survive on his own.
Our daughters and I took turns in feeding “Squirt.” Kaytlin took on the most responsibility. She taught him to eat from a bottle, and she woke in the night for his feeds.
To our relief, Squirt soon became healthy and strong. Within a few weeks he became more active. He would chatter (吱吱叫) for his next meal, playfully go around the girls, and lie down on them for sleep. It wasn’t long before he was weaned onto solid food and reintroduced to the wild.
His first few visits to the great outdoors were funny. Just like a child, he would play in the grass some and then run back to Kaytlin for safety. Soon she had him climbing trees and finding nest material.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
One day in the trees, Squirt met up with a family of gray squirrels.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One night, Squirt didn’t come back to our house and it rained hard.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One day in the trees, Squirt met up with a family of gray squirrels. Squirt cautiously approached them, his tiny body initially trembling but soon filled with growing curiosity.
After observing their movements, he hesitated only a moment before attempting to mimic their nimble climbs and swift jumps.
Each day, Squirt ventured a little farther from the safety of our house, and we could see his budding confidence, the sure sign of his readiness for independence.
Concerned, we grabbed our raincoats and braved the storm, calling his name into the dark, our voices barely carrying over the sound of the downpour.
As lightning flashed across the sky, we scoured the wet branches and shadows until, at last, we spotted him nestled safely in a tree hollow, huddled close with his new squirrel family, warm and content.
Relief and bittersweet pride washed over us as we realized he had found his own place in the world. Walking back home, we felt the quiet fulfillment of letting go, knowing he was free, thriving under the sheltering trees in the life he had chosen for himself.
One day in the trees, Squirt met up with a family of gray squirrels. But the family was none too happy about his visit. They scolded and swatted at him. At first Squirt was so unhappy that he avoided them. And then he quickly learned some social skills. He would take some snacks to meet them. For several days he played all day in the trees surrounding our house but came down at bedtime.
One night, Squirt didn’t come back to our house and it rained hard. Our girls fretted. They wanted to seek Squirt. We prevented them because it was too dangerous. But when the sun rose the next day, there was Squirt, begging for food. And that remained the pattern for weeks. The experience was entertaining and heartwarming for our family. In the wild and somewhat silly moments of raising an orphaned baby squirrel, our children learned to value and appreciate life.

Christmas time at the bookstore was always busy. It was exciting but tiring, unfortunately robbing me of the joy of the season. The customers we found most challenging were those buying for others — frustrated and unsure, often leading to sharp comments during this busy time.
One year, I encountered a man in the kids’ section who seemed completely at a loss. He looked about thirty-five, holding a piece of paper and a small bag from another store, which contained just candy. Tired and panicked, he appeared to have barely begun his shopping just days before Christmas.
I approached him, asking if I could help. When he turned to me, he looked like he was on the edge of tears. He didn’t reply, just stared, so I gently touched his shoulder. “Are you okay?” I asked.
“Sorry,” he said, taking a deep breath. “I need presents for my nieces, my nephew, my brother-in-law, and my parents.” He paused, struggling to continue. “I don’t know what they like, but they all like to read. I just want to make sure there’s something to open.”
He turned back to the shelves. I could tell he wasn’t seeing anything. I wanted to give him a hand and asked him how old his nieces and nephew were. He handed me the list: twin nieces aged eight and a six-year-old nephew. As I asked about their interests, I noticed his body shaking. “My sister just died,” he said, struggling to hold it together. “Cancer. She always did Christmas, you know?”
At that moment, I realized that not only did he need gifts, he needed support as well. I have always kept a gift card at Christmas. Sometimes, a staff member really needed a few seconds to calm down after a really bad moment with a difficult customer. A cup of coffee upstairs would do the trick.

1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
I gave him the gift card and asked him to enjoy a cup of coffee there by himself.

When he saw those books, he was moved to tears.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I gave him the gift card and asked him to enjoy a cup of coffee there by himself. He looked at me in disbelief for a moment and then a glimmer of gratitude appeared in his eyes. As he made his way upstairs, I quickly gathered some age-appropriate books: storybooks full of adventure and magic for his nieces, a colorful picture book about animals for his nephew. I also selected a classic novel for his brother-in-law and a collection of beautiful poetry for his parents. With the selected books in my hands, I noticed that he walked downstairs.
When he saw those books, he was moved to tears. “You have no idea how much this means to me,” feeling those books lightly, he murmured, his voice trembling. I smiled, hoping that these books would bring him some comfort and joy during this difficult time. He waved goodbye to me and then left the store with a relaxed mind and a heart full of warmth. All of a sudden, I felt my tiredness lifted off my heart completely this Christmas time.

Flowers on the Bus
We were a very motley (混杂的) crowd of people who took the bus every day that summer 33 years ago. During the early morning ride from the suburb, we sat sleepily with our collars up to our ears, a cheerless and boring crowd.
One of the passengers was a small grey man who took the bus to the centre for senior citizens every morning. He walked slowly with a sad look on his face when he, with some difficulty, boarded the bus and sat down alone behind the driver. No one ever paid very much attention to him.
Then one July morning he said good morning to the driver and smiled short-sightedly down through the bus before he sat down. The driver nodded guardedly. The rest of us were silent.
The next day, the old man boarded the bus energetically, smiled and said in a loud voice, “And a very good morning to you all!” Some of us looked up, amazed, and murmured “Good morning,” in reply.
The following weeks we were more alert. Our friend was now dressed in a nice old suit and a wide out-of-date tie. The thin hair had been carefully combed. He said good morning to us every day and we gradually began to nod and talk to each other.
One morning he had a bunch of wild flowers in his hand. They were already dangling (低垂的) a little because of the heat. The driver turned around smilingly and asked: “Have you got yourself a girlfriend, Charlie?” We never got to know if his name really was “Charlie”, but he nodded shyly and said yes.
The other passengers whistled and clapped at him. Charlie bowed and waved the flowers before he sat down on his seat. Every morning after that Charlie always brought a flower. Some of the regular passengers began bringing him flowers for his dates. Everyone smiled. The men started to joke about it, talk to each other, and share the newspaper.

The summer went by when one morning Charlie wasn’t waiting at his usual stop. When he wasn’t there the next day and the day after that, we started wondering if he was sick or — hopefully — on holiday somewhere. When we came nearer to the centre for senior citizens, one of the passengers asked the driver to wait. We all held our breaths when she went to the door. Yes, the staff said, they knew who we were talking about. The elderly gentleman was fine, but his girlfriend had died at the weekend and he hadn’t been coming to the centre that week.
Hearing the news, we all remained silent the rest of the way to work. How could he survive the great loss? Could he get back on his feet and come back to us again? Nobody knew. One Monday, to everyone’s great relief, Charlie was seen again, waiting at the stop. He seemed to have shrinked again, stooping a bit more, and without a tie. Inside the bus was a silence similar to that in a church. Even though no one had talked about it, all those of us, who he had made such an impression on that summer, sat with our eyes filled with tears and a bunch of wild flowers in our hands. Those flowers on the bus dangled a little but shone with the brilliance of humanity.
