Two boys awoke with great excitement on the morning of their baseball team’s championship game, but the day did not go as planned. An unexpected, wild pitch (投球) would result in an inspiring moment of sportsmanship between competing teams.
The Little League Southwest Regional Playoff would determine which team would make it to the final game in Williamsport. Kaiden Shelton pitched for his Pearland, Texas baseball team and Isaiah Jarvis played shortstop (游击手) for the opposing team from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Kaiden’s team scored three runs in the top of the first inning (局), and Isaiah’s team fought back with two scored runs at the bottom.
Pressure became stronger for Kaiden to pitch a strike as the crowd’s cry, “win the battle!”, grew louder. He knew that his next pitch could decide which team won or lost the playoff game. Kaiden threw a powerful fastball. His fast pitch went mistakenly and hit Isaiah’s helmet, knocking him to the ground. Medical staff rushed to Isaiah’s aid, and parents and coaches grew concerned. The stadium grew very silent.
Luckily, his helmet had prevented any serious injury. He quickly recovered and medical staff cleared him to continue playing. He walked to first base to prepare for the next play.
Pitcher Kaidenstood on the ground, overwhelmed with emotion from the unpleasant incident. He teared up over the thought that he had hurt a fellow player. Isaiah noticed Kaiden’s distress and threw down his helmet. He walked toward the pitcher’s mound and gave Kaiden a hug. He instinctively knew that Kaiden needed this reassurance in order to continue the game. “Hey, you’re doing great. Let’s go,” Isaiah said to Kaiden.
The ballpark burst into wild cheers at the touching gesture. The game continued, but that moment will live on as a perfect expression of respect between opposing players.
24. Why did the two boys wake up excited?
A. They would join a baseball team.
B. They would compete in a final game.
C. They would see a new champion.
D. They would join in an important game.
25 Which of the following most probably caused Kaiden’s pitch go wrong?
A. Huge pressure. B. Serious injuries.
C. Extreme tiredness. D. Lack of experience.
26. What does the underlined word “reassurance” mean in paragraph 5?
A. The support from family.
B. The act of removing worries.
C. The courage of going ahead.
D. The wisdom of dealing with issues.
27. What does the author think of this story?
A. Relaxing. B. Embarrassing.
C. Inspiring. D. Disappointing.
D 25. A 26. B 27. C
根据文章第一段“Two boys awoke with great excitement on the morning of their baseball team’s championship game, but the day did not go as planned(在他们棒球队冠军赛的那天早上,两个男孩兴奋地醒来,但这一天并没有按计划进行)”可知,两个男孩兴奋醒来是因为他们要参加一场重要的比赛,即棒球队的冠军赛,故选D项。
根据第三段“Pressure became stronger for Kaiden to pitch a strike as the crowd’s cry, “win the battle!”, grew louder. He knew that his next pitch could decide which team won or lost the playoff game. Kaiden threw a powerful fastball. His fast pitch went mistakenly and hit Isaiah’s helmet, knocking him to the ground.(随着人群中 “赢得比赛!” 的呼喊声越来越大,凯登投出好球的压力也越来越大。他知道他的下一次投球可能会决定哪支球队赢得或输掉这场季后赛。凯登投出了一个强有力的快球。他的快速投球失误了,击中了以赛亚的头盔,把他撞倒在地)”可知,是巨大的压力导致凯登投球失误了,故选A项。
【26题详解】
词义猜测题。根据前文“He teared up over the thought that he had hurt a fellow player. Isaiah noticed Kaiden’s distress and threw down his helmet. He walked toward the pitcher’s mound and gave Kaiden a hug(一想到自己伤害了队友,他就流下了眼泪。以赛亚注意到了凯登的苦恼,扔下了头盔。他走向投手丘,给了凯登一个拥抱)”可知,以赛亚看到凯登因为伤害到自己而苦恼,通过给他拥抱的方式来安慰他,让他消除担忧继续比赛,所以 “reassurance”在这里指的是消除担忧的行为,也就是让凯登不再那么担心、焦虑,故选B项。
【27题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“The ballpark burst into wild cheers at the touching gesture. The game continued, but that moment will live on as a perfect expression of respect between opposing players(棒球场因这一感人的举动爆发出热烈的欢呼声。比赛继续进行,但那一刻将作为对手之间相互尊重的完美体现而长存)”以及前文描述的以赛亚在被凯登投球击中后不仅没有生气,反而去安慰凯登的整个过程,可以看出作者认为这个故事是鼓舞人心的,故选C项。

Building with 3D printing technology is sparking widespread interest in the construction industry. Besides reducing waste and our impact on the environment, it can speed up construction from weeks, or months, to days. Projects that use simple raw materials like soil, straw, and even salt, can be built in a fraction of the time and cost of traditional construction.
Walls are built up layer by layer using an industrial 3D building printer. Construction waste is reduced as little as possible and, because the printers are mobile, they can be set up quickly where they are needed. Home design can be customized easily, giving architects more creative freedom.
Companies use recycled products and eco-friendly cement to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and make building more sustainable. By using a range of simple, readily available or even waste materials like plastic in the mix, it then reduces the chance of materials being unavailable or too costly. Most construction uses conventional methods, but 3D printing is growing steadily.
Community building takes on new meaning with the creation of a neighborhood of 10 3D printed homes in Tabasco, Mexico, aimed at tackling global homelessness. Families in the area live on less than $3 a day and New Story says its aim is to provide shelter for the more than one billion people without homes around the world.
African island state Madagascar is hosting one of the world’s most forward-thinking school building projects. Non-profit Thinking Huts is using 3D printing technology to provide schools where children have little or no access to education. Schools are built using local materials and low carbon concrete in under a week. Beehive-inspired designs allow buildings to be easily expanded, and each school will include gardens built into the walls and solar panels on the roof for power.
28. What can replace the underlined word “fraction” in paragraph 1?
A. Small part. B. New piece.

根据第一段“Besides reducing waste and our impact on the environment, it can speed up construction from weeks, or months, to days.( 除了减少浪费和我们对环境的影响外,它还可以加快建筑速度从几周或几个月到几天)”以及“Projects that use simple raw materials like soil, straw, and even salt, can be built in a … of the time and cost of traditional construction.(使用土壤、稻草甚至盐等简单原材料的项目,可以在传统建筑所需时间和成本的……内建成)”可知,3D打印技术可以加快建筑速度从几周或几个月到几天,且使用土壤、稻草甚至盐等简单原材料,由此可推理出此处是指3D打印建筑技术比传统建筑技术所需时间和成本更少,所以“fraction”意思是“小部分”。故选A项。
根据第二段“Walls are built up layer by layer using an industrial 3D building printer. Construction waste is reduced as little as possible(使用工业3D建筑打印机逐层建造墙壁。尽可能减少建筑垃圾)”以及第三段“Companies use recycled products and eco-friendly cement to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and make building more sustainable.(公司使用回收产品和环保水泥来减少二氧化碳排放,使建筑更加可持续)”可知3D打印技术尽可能减少建筑垃圾,使建筑更加可持续,可推理出作者认为3D打印建筑比传统建筑更环保。故选D项。
【30题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“Community building takes on new meaning with the creation of a neighborhood of 10 3D printed homes in Tabasco, Mexico, aimed at tackling global homelessness. Families in the area live on less than $3 a day and New Story says its aim is to provide shelter for the more than one billion people without homes around the world. (墨西哥塔巴斯科州的一个社区建造了10栋3D打印房屋,旨在解决全球无家可归问题。该地区的家庭每天收入不足3美元,New Story表示其目标是为全球超过十亿无家可归的人提供庇护所)”及第五段“African island state Madagascar is hosting one of the world’s most forward-thinking school building projects. Non-profit Thinking Huts is using 3D printing technology to provide schools where children have little or no access to education. Schools are built using local materials and low carbon concrete in under a week. Beehive-inspired designs allow buildings to be easily expanded, and each school will include gardens built into the walls and solar panels on the roof for power(非洲岛国马达加斯加正在承办世界上最具前瞻性的学校建设项目之一。
根据第一段“Building with 3D printing technology is sparking widespread interest in the construction industry.(使用3D打印技术进行建筑正在建筑行业引起广泛关注)”、第二段“Walls are built up layer by layer using an industrial 3D building printer. Construction waste is reduced as little as possible(使用工业3D建筑打印机逐层建造墙壁。尽可能减少建筑垃圾)”以及第三段“Companies use recycled products and eco-friendly cement to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and make building more sustainable.(公司使用回收产品和环保水泥来减少二氧化碳排放,使建筑更加可持续)”可知,文章主要介绍了3D打印建筑的优势,可推理出这篇文章很可能来自一个科学研究的网站。故选C项。
D
Polar bears in Canada’s Western Hudson Bay — on the southern edge of the Arctic—are continuing to die in high numbers, a new government survey of the land carnivore has found. Females and bear cubs are having an especially hard time.
Researchers surveyed Western Hudson Bay — home to Churchill, the town called “the Polar Bear Capital of the World”, — by air in 2021 and estimated there were 618 bears, compared to the 842 in 2016, when they were last surveyed.
“The actual decline is a lot larger than I would have expected,” said Andrew Derocher, a biology professor at the University of Alberta who has studied Hudson Bay polar bears for nearly four decades. Derocher was not involved in the study.
Since the 1980s, the number of bears in the region has fallen by nearly 50%, the researchers found. The ice essential to their survival is disappearing.
Polar bears rely on arctic sea ice that shrinks (减少) in summer with warmer temperatures and forms again in the long winter. They use it to hunt, perching near holes in the thick ice to spot seals, their favorite food, coming up for air. But as the Arctic has warmed twice as fast as the rest of the world because of climate change, sea ice is cracking earlier in the year and taking longer to freeze in the fall.
That has left many polar bears that live across the Arctic with less ice on which to live, hunt and reproduce. Polar bears are not only critical predators (捕食者) in the Arctic. For years, before climate change began affecting people around the globe, they were also the best-known face of climate change.
Researchers said the concentration of deaths in young bears and females in Western Hudson Bay is alarming. “Those are the types of bears we’ve always predicted would be affected by changes in the environment,” said Stephen Atkinson, the lead author who has studied polar bears for more than 30 years.
32. What does the author intend to show in paragraph 2?
A. The number of polar bears in the world.
B. The sharp drop of polar bears in Churchill.
C. The polar bear’s terrible living environment.
D. The researchers’ efforts to protect polar bears.
33. What led to the sharp decrease of polar bears in the region?
A. The disappearance of arctic sea ice.
B. A lack of sunshine in winter.
C. The severe cold weather in the Arctic.
D. The destruction of food chain.
34. What is the challenge posed by climate change for polar bears?
A. Hunting for enough food.
B. Their disordered pace of life.
C. Being found by other predators.
D. Their habitats flooded by the sea.
35. How does Stephen Atkinson feel about the current situation of polar bears?
A. Optimistic. B. Disappointed.
C. Concerned. D. Relieved.
B 33. A 34. A 35. C
根据第二段“Researchers surveyed Western Hudson Bay — home to Churchill, the town called “the Polar Bear Capital of the World”, — by air in 2021 and estimated there were 618 bears, compared to the 842 in 2016, when they were last surveyed.(研究人员在2021年通过空中对西哈德逊湾——被称为“世界北极熊之都”的丘吉尔镇所在地——进行了调查,估计那里有618只北极熊,而2016年上次调查时为842只)”可知,作者在第二段主要是想展示丘吉尔地区北极熊数量的急剧下降情况,并非是展示世界上北极熊的数量、北极熊恶劣的生存环境或者研究人员保护北极熊所做的努力,故选B项。
根据第四段“Since the 1980s, the number of bears in the region has fallen by nearly 50%, the researchers found. The ice essential to their survival is disappearing(研究人员发现,自20世纪80年代以来,该地区的北极熊数量已经下降了近50%。对它们生存至关重要的冰正在消失)”以及第五段“Polar bears rely on arctic sea ice that shrinks (减少) in summer with warmer temperatures and forms again in the long winter. They use it to hunt, perching near holes in the thick ice to spot seals, their favorite food, coming up for air. But as the Arctic has warmed twice as fast as the rest of the world because of climate change, sea ice is cracking earlier in the year and taking longer to freeze in the fall(北极熊依赖着北极的海冰,这种海冰在夏季随着气温升高而缩小,到了漫长的冬季又重新形成。它们利用海冰来狩猎,站在厚冰上的洞口附近,观察它们最喜欢的食物——海豹上来呼吸。但由于气候变化,北极变暖的速度是全球其他地区的两倍,因此海冰在一年中更早地破裂,并且在秋季需要更长时间才能冻结)”可知,是北极海冰的消失导致了该地区北极熊数量的急剧减少,而不是冬季缺乏阳光、北极的严寒天气或者食物链的破坏等原因,故选A项。
【34题详解】
细节理解题。根据第五段“Polar bears rely on arctic sea ice that shrinks (减少) in summer with warmer temperatures and forms again in the long winter. They use it to hunt, perching near holes in the thick ice to spot seals, their favorite food, coming up for air.(北极熊依赖北极海冰,随着夏季气温升高,海冰会减少,而在漫长的冬季又会重新形成。它们利用海冰进行捕猎,栖息在厚厚的冰层的孔洞附近,以便发现它们最喜欢的食物海豹浮出水面换气)”可知,气候变化使得海冰减少,进而影响北极熊捕猎,所以气候变化给北极熊带来的挑战是难以猎取到足够的食物,并非是生活节奏紊乱、被其他捕食者发现或者栖息地被海水淹没等情况,故选A项。
【35题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“Researchers said the concentration of deaths in young bears and females in Western Hudson Bay is alarming. “Those are the types of bears we’ve always predicted would be affected by changes in the environment,” said Stephen Atkinson, the lead author who has studied polar bears for more than 30 years(研究人员表示,西哈德逊湾年轻北极熊和雌性北极熊的集中死亡情况令人担忧。
If you’ve ever wondered how often you should shampoo (用洗发剂洗) your hair, you’re not alone. ____36____ While many people prefer to wash their hair daily, others think that once every few days is best. But that still leaves us with the very important question - how much is too much?
____37____ When you wash your hair with shampoo, the surfactant (表面活性剂) in the shampoo mixes with water and works to clean dirt and oil from your hair. Although clean hair is definitely a good thing, frequent shampooing can lead to some problems such as split ends (发梢开叉) and dull hair.
Most people who wash their hair every day say they do it to avoid a build-up of oil. But in fact, skipping a wash is the best way to prevent oil from building up. Most often the oily substance in your hair doesn’t come from natural oil but from the products you use for treatment and styling. ____38____
Actually, how often you should shampoo your hair depends on your hair type. People who sweat a lot or live in a humid area may need to shampoo their hair more frequently. ____39____ If your hair is oily, you should try to use a shampoo that is specially designed for oily hair.
Since thicker hair collects less oil, it’ll need less washing. ____40____ Anyway, the best way to know how often to wash your hair is to experiment. As long as you don’t have scalp (头皮) problems, you can wash your hair once a week.
A. It is evident that shampoo can be harmful to your hair.
B. Oily hair, on the other hand, is more difficult to deal with.
C. Washing your hair every day can be costly and unhelpful.
D. It’s a question that has been bothering thousands of people.
E. In addition, dry and curly hair can often be left unwashed for days.
F. You may notice some changes if you start skipping washing your hair.
G. To answer that, we first need to understand what happens when you wash your hair.
D 37. G 38. F 39. B 40. E
根据前文“If you’ve ever wondered how often you should shampoo (用洗发剂洗) your hair, you’re not alone.(如果你曾经想过应该多久洗头一次,那么你并不孤单。)”
根据后文“When you wash your hair with shampoo, the surfactant (表面活性剂) in the shampoo mixes with water and works to clean dirt and oil from your hair. (当你用洗发水洗头时,洗发水中的表面活性剂与水混合,可以清洁头发上的污垢和油脂。)”可知,此处是讲洗头发时发生了什么,所以选项G“要回答这个问题,我们首先需要了解洗头时发生了什么。”切合文意。故选G。
38题详解】
根据前文“But in fact, skipping a wash is the best way to prevent oil from building up. Most often the oily substance in your hair doesn’t come from natural oil but from the products you use for treatment and styling.(但事实上,不洗是防止油脂积聚的最好方法。大多数情况下,头发中的油性物质不是来自天然油脂,而是来自你用于护理和造型的产品。)”可知,此处是讲不要天天洗头发,所以选项F“如果你开始不洗头,你会注意到一些变化。”切合文意。故选F。
【39题详解】
根据后文“If your hair is oily, you should try to use a shampoo that is specially designed for oily hair.(如果你的头发是油性的,你应该尝试使用专门为油性头发设计的洗发水。)”

One sunny afternoon my elder brother Ricky and I were sitting in the back seat of my dad’s black truck. We were excited! Our first time to Six Flags! While backing out of our driveway, I rolled down the window.
The drive to Six Flags wasn’t long since we lived near the freeway. As we passed the bridge, I knew we were getting close. As we sat in the car, I was wearing a pink blouse with leggings. I had tied my hair into a braid. My brother was wearing a black T-shirt with shorts on. Ricky was eleven and I was eight years old. “Liz, we’re finally getting to Six Flags!” he told me.
We got off the freeway and entered the parking lot. It took us about twenty minutes to find parking. As we walked to the park, I remembered that there was a Christmas specially planned for that day. I could smell popcorn and hear people screaming on roller coasters. Also I saw an area with snow that looked like shaved ice.
My dad said, “Let’s go to the gift shop first.” Ricky and I looked at all the toys. Our eyes looked like giant snow balls. Our dad said we could only get one thing. We ran to the area with all the beautiful toys. I picked out my favorite, Tweety Bird. When Ricky and I turned back around, we couldn’t see our dad anymore.
Ricky said, “Hold my hand and stay close.” I was so scared that my face looked like a tomato. We had no phone to contact our dad, so we stayed where we were. Ten minutes later we saw a guy with the same clothing as our dad. We ran to him, but it turned out that his face looked nothing like our dad’s.

“Shouldn’t we go and try to find Dad?” I suggested. “No, we had better stay where we are,” Ricky replied. I was a little scared, imagining where my dad could be and wondering if I would see him again. A couple of minutes later, my dad appeared, worried. At the sight of us, he was in relief. I ran to my dad and hugged him as hard as I could.
Then we went to the roller coasters. When it slowly moved, my stomach felt like it had a thousand butterflies in it, but gradually I became used to it. As it sped up, people screamed loudly all the time. Certainly I was also thrilled. Sometimes I couldn’t open my eyes as it rushed up and down. At this time my heart seemed to jump out of my breast. The ride was so adventurous that I grasped the safety belt firmly. Sweat rolled down my face. It was real fun to have a ride, and I couldn’t wait to have a try again.

Pitcher Kaidenstood on the ground overwhelmed with emotion from the unpleasant incident.

A. Small part. B. New piece.
C. Large amount. D. Complete waste.
29. What does the author think of 3D printed buildings compared with traditional ones?
A. More classical. B. More complex.
C. More expensive. D. More eco-friendly.
30. What is the purpose of the examples in the last two paragraphs?
A. To show 3D printing is growing steadily.
B. To show how to use 3D printing technology.
C. To introduce where 3D printed buildings lie.
D. To introduce more advantages of 3D printing.
31. Where can we read this text most likely?
A. In a culture and art newspaper.
B. On an athletic sports program.
C. On a scientific research website.
D. In a trade and marketing magazine.

C. Concerned. D. Relieved.
