It was a lovely spring day and the rose vine was turning green. Under the huge trees, we could see yellow dandelions(蒲公英). “I think I’m going to dig all these weeds,” mother said, pulling one dandelion up by its roots. “Then we’ll have only roses in this 40 .” “But I like dandelions,” I 41 , “All flowers are beautiful ─even dandelions.” My mother looked at me seriously, “Yes, every flower gives pleasure in its own way, doesn’t it?” She asked thoughtfully, “And that is 42 of people too,” she added. “Not everyone can be a princess, but there is no 43 in that.” 44 by the fact that she had understood my pain, I started to cry as I told her what had happened. 第三部分:阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)

Monarch butterflies are endangered due to habitat loss, climate change, and pesticide exposure. Learn more about these amazing insects on our website: Pacific Grove Monarch Reserve.
When is the best time to see the monarchs?
Western monarchs are usually present at the Pacific Grove Monarch Reserve from mid-October to mid-February. Their numbers reach their highest between November and January. To see them gathering, visit in the morning before 11 am. They look like small pinecones(松果)or brown leaves.
Where can you find the butterflies in the Reserve?
Monarchs gather in groups, hanging from tree branches. Look for trees that appear to have many small pinecones or brown leaves. These are monarchs with closed wings. Gathering helps them conserve energy. Monarchs do not always gather on the same trees. Monarch activity depends on weather: they fly in warm, sunny conditions and gather when it’s cold and cloudy. On warm days, look up to see them flying overhead.
What is the etiquette(礼仪)for viewing monarchs?
The Pacific Grove Monarch Reserve is designed to protect monarchs. Visitors should follow these guidelines to ensure their safety:
· Stay on selected paths.
· Keep pets outside the Reserve.
· Do not touch or disturb the butterflies.
· Keep your voices low.
Breaking these rules can result in charges up to $1,000, enforced by the Pacific Grove Police Department.
How can I help monarchs?
You can support the monarch butterfly, no matter where you live:
· Plant native nectar plants. Monarchs feed on nectar, so if you live near overwintering sites like Pacific Grove, plant flowers that produce flowers.
· If you live more than 5 miles from the coast, plant native milkweeds. Milkweed is not native to coastal California and can block migration if introduced there.
· Avoid using pesticides and support Insect-friendly companies.
· Volunteer at the Pacific Grove Monarch Reserve to educate others.
51. When is the best time to see monarch butterflies at the Reserve?
A. Mid-October to mid-February.
B. January to late February.
C. November to January.
D. Early October to late February.
52. Why do monarchs gather on trees at the Reserve?
A. To find food more easily.
B. To stay warm and save energy.
C. To communicate with each other.
D. To escape extreme weather conditions.
53. If visitors don’t follow the Reserve’s rules, they may ________.
A. receive a warning from the Police Department
B. lose access to the Reserve for a whole year
C. be required to clean the Reserve
D. face a fine of up to $1,000
54. How can people living more than 5 miles away help protect monarchs?
A. Grow milkweeds plants. B. Plant native nectar plants.
C. Reduce the use of pesticides. D. Volunteer at the Reserve.
55. What is the main purpose of the text?
A. To describe the life cycle of monarch butterflies.
B. To inform people how to build habitats for monarchs.
C. To encourage visitors to see and help protect monarchs.
D. To explain how to capture monarchs effectively.
B
It was a sunny day in July, and I was a new paraglider(滑翔伞) pilot heading to Washington to fly at Parker Mountain. Flying in the middle of a summer day can be risky because of turbulence(风暴) and strong winds. For that reason, I had only flown in the mornings or evenings until then, but that day, I planned to fly at 2:00 PM.
The takeoff went smoothly. I brought up my wing, turned around, and ran west off the mountain. I felt the wing lift me up, and it was an incredible feeling of free flight. However, as I passed the shoulder of the mountain, a strong north wind hit me, causing the right side of my glider wing to collapse(塌陷). I started to fall, but I leaned my body to the still-open left side, just as I had been trained. After a tense few seconds, the right side filled with air again and popped back into place.
The turbulence threw me from side to side, like being in a boat on rough water—except the “water” was the turbulent air. I struggled to keep my wing steady in the wind. Then, I flew into a powerful wind that shot me straight up into the sky.
I wasn’t enjoying this. Panicking wouldn’t help, so I focused on staying calm and doing what I had been trained to do. I guided my glider out of the wind and began sinking toward the ground. I was eager to land as soon as possible. Below me, a thick forest of pine trees blocked my path, but beyond the ridge ahead, I knew there was a farmer’s field if I could make it that far.
I cleared the trees and reached the field. I circled down quickly and made a rough but safe landing next to a small stream. I had never been so happy to be back on solid ground. My hands were shaking, and it took several minutes for my mind and body to calm down.
Pilots have a saying: “It’s better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than to be in the air wishing you were on the ground.” And they’re right.
56. Why does the author usually fly in the mornings or evenings?
A. To avoid turbulence and strong winds. B. To enjoy the best views.
C. To escape the midday heat. D. To follow other pilots’ advice.
57. According to Paragraph 2, the author recovered the collapsing wing by ________.
A. pulling the control lines hard B. shifting his body to the left side
C. preparing to land immediately D. reducing the tension on the wing
58. From Paragraph 4, we can infer _________.
A. the excitement of flying turned into a survival concern
B. the struggle and thrill of flying were enjoyable
C. the experience as a pilot helped him focus on training
D. the powerful wind made the author disappointed
59. What helped the author land safely according to Paragraph 5?
A. Ignoring the strong winds. B. His ability to call for help.
C. Pulling the lines to stop falling. D. His training and quick thinking.
60. What does the pilots’ saying in the last paragraph suggest?
A. Flying is thrilling but dangerous. B. Pilots should avoid risky situations.
C. Safety should always come first. D. Flying is prepared for experts.
C
There comes a point when a thing becomes too much. It might be at the end of the meal when that final slice of pizza turns you from “comfortably full” to “ergh”; when the car karaoke goes from being huge fun to a throat-aching chore; or when you’ve been playing video games for hours and your eyes start to burn.
The fact that humans have unstoppable thirsts and appetites is not new wisdom. It’s found in Ancient Greece and in most of the world’s philosophies today. But in the Swedish idea of lagom, it has been given fresh life. Lagom means trying to find balance rather than constantly grasping for more, which stands in sharp contrast to American culture.
There are two separate aspects of lagom. The first is a kind of social awareness that recognizes that what we do affects other people. If you take three cookies from the plate, two other people aren’t going to get one. The second, however, is a mental shift that finds contentment in satisfaction. Many of us have the idea that bigger means better, that a bank balance means status, and that excess means happiness. Lagom, though, is to enjoy the “just right”, appreciating that sometimes less really is more. After all, talking to a friend over a coffee is nice. But meeting with ten friends after ten coffees does not make things better.
So, how are we to apply lagom to our lives? I’m sure your childhood is treasured with great holiday memories and brilliant getaways, but chances are that your fondest, deepest memories were those spent simply at home. You do not have to pay lots of money or travel for hours to have fun. A cheaply cooked meal and some old-worn pajamas(睡衣)are “just enough” to have fun.
There are other ways we can apply lagom, from how often we see our friends to how much we buy to live sustainably. But the most profound element of lagom is simply to rest and relax when a thing feels good. Simple pleasures do not mean simple humans.
61. According to Paragraph 1, “too much” will eventually lead to ________.
A. excitement or pride B. depression or anxiety
C. satisfaction or enjoyment D. discomfort or regret
62. What does the American culture encourage based on the text?
A. Chasing more wealth. B. Living a simple life.
C. Seeking only basic needs. D. Striving for constant success.
63. What does the underlined word “excess” most likely mean in Paragraph 3?
A. Harmony. B. Limited amount. C. Enough. D. Too much.
64. By writing the passage, the author intends to ________.
A. encourage us to pursue the material wealth
B. show us that lagom is an extreme way of life
C. invite us to appreciate what we have and find balance in life
D. highlight that simple pleasures lead to a successful life
65. What could be the best title for the passage?
A. Wisdom of Lagom: Redefining Philosophy
B. Swedish Lagom: Balance and Happiness
C. Lagom and Social Awareness: Sharing and Caring
D. Understanding Lagom: Influence of Swedish Culture

第四部分:写作
第一节 阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读短文,并按照题目要求用英语回答问题。
After a recent business trip, I was heading back to my home in Northern California. Since I live a four-hour drive from the San Francisco airport, I had parked my car there for my trip back. To my frustration, I discovered that the battery was dead when I reached my car. Luckily, an airport parking attendant promptly showed up to jump-start my car, allowing me to continue my drive home.
However, the trouble didn’t end there. While driving north on Highway 280 towards San Francisco, I exited onto Highway 1 and encountered heavy traffic. Suddenly, my car didn’t work entirely — no flashers, lights, or starter — leaving me stuck in the middle lane. Feeling helpless and scared of being hit,I immediately called 911 for help. A 911operator took my information and forwarded it to the San Francisco police.
As I stood there awaiting assistance anxiously, a kind gentleman, who had previously experienced a similar breakdown himself, offered to push my car to the shoulder. After thanking him, I continued to wait for further help.
Within ten minutes, a police car arrived to ensure that everything was going smoothly. Shortly after, a tow truck also showed up and took my car to a nearby garage, where the staff quickly assessed the problem. Efficient repairs allowed me to carry on my journey without much delay.
On my drive home, I couldn’t help but reflect on everything that had happened. The help I received from the parking attendant, the gentleman who stopped to assist, the police, and the tow truck staff had all turned what could have been a very frustrating experience into something much more manageable. I was deeply touched by the kindness I encountered. It made me realize how much simple acts of goodwill can make a difference in tough situations. I made a silent vow to pay it forward and offer that same help to others in need whenever I could.
66. What was the problem with the author’s car at the airport? (no more than 5 words)
67. How did the author feel when her car broke down on Highway 1? (no more than 5 words)
68. What does the underlined word “forwarded” mean in Paragraph 2? (no more than 2 words)
69. Why did the author decide to offer help to others in need? (no more than 10 words)
70. What have you learned from the author’s experience? (no more than 20 words)

Text 6:
M: Excuse me, Madam. I’d like to borrow several books, but I don’t know where to find them.
W: What books do you want to find?
M: A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking, Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell and the latest Teens magazine.
W: Well, the book by Stephen Hawking is on the third floor. The magazine is on the second floor and the book by Margaret Mitchell is on the same floor as the magazine.
M: Thanks. Oh, my friend Jenny wants to borrow A Dream of Red Mansions. Is it available now?
W: No. Someone has already checked it out last week. If your friend wants to borrow it, she should come and fill out this form so she can be the first one to borrow it when the book is returned.
M: OK. I’ll tell her that.

Text 7:
W: To start with, tell me about your education, please.
M: All right. I will graduate from Columbia University next year. I’m majoring in international business.
W: Are you single or married?
M: I’m still single. I’d rather have a career before I start a family.
W: That’s the kind of man we are looking for. Our work requires a lot of travel. So, do you mind going on business trips? There will be six to ten trips abroad every month.
M: Six to ten? Hmm…that is quite a lot…
W: Yes. This job is not for everyone.
M: Uh…I think it will be a challenge for me, but I can do it. At least I’ll never be bored!
W: Good. Well, it has been most pleasant talking with you. We’ll inform you of our final decision in three days.
M: Thank you, Mrs. Hudson. I hope to see you soon.
W: Goodbye.
听下面一段独白,回答第12至第15题。
Text 8:
Listen carefully, everyone. There will be a school trip to Hilltop Castle tomorrow. It’s a really interesting place, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy going there. We’re getting group tickets, so instead of the usual price of $6, you only have to pay $3 to visit the castle. And the bus is free. Now, don’t forget that we’re going on March 4th. Mrs. Philips, the school secretary, is away this week, so take your money to Mr. Gifford. He works in the office, too. I’m afraid you’ll have to get up early that day because you have to be at school at 7:30 a.m. The bus is leaving at 7:45 a. m. and I want you all to be at school 15 minutes before that. At the castle, I’ll give you a piece of paper with questions on it and a pen to fill it out with. You should try to answer all the questions on it. And one last thing; the castle doesn’t have a café or a restaurant, so you’ll probably get hungry. Don’t forget to bring a lunch!
