Unlike simple actions, body language is more focused on conveying emotions, with strong cultural differences. If you really want to be fluent and communicate effectively with English speakers, you will need to understand what types of body language they use. What Exactly is Body Language? Body language is the movement of facial features or body parts, which intentionally (有意地) or unintentionally express thoughts and attitudes. Here are three key types: Facial expressions: A smile, a slight frown or a straight face are all different expressions that add another layer of meaning to what you are saying. Eye contact is an especially significant of body language that you need to pay attention to while speaking English or listening to someone else. Hand gestures: When you talk, do you move your hands around or do you keep them at your side? Folded arms, hands on hips or hands in pockets can create different messages even if you are saying the same words. Body position: The position of your body also means a lot. Leaning forward while somebody is speaking or how far you stand apart from your audience----it all matters. How to Practice English Body Language While learning how to speak English takes a lot of work, from mastering grammar to perfecting pronunciation, body language requires the same attention and investment. What makes it even more tough is that body language varies from culture to culture. For example, did you know that in Bulgaria, people nod their heads up and down to mean “no”? Therefore, you need to learn body language from real native English speakers. But how can you practice if you are not currently living with English speakers or in an English-speaking region? 1. Which of the following is a facial expression? A. Giving your brother a bear hug. B. Saying hello to your friend. C. Nodding to your boss in the meeting. D. Raising your eyebrows on seeing a dog. 2. What causes more difficulties in learning body language? A. The cultural differences. B. The changing gestures. C. A lack of communication. D. A lack of professional training. 3. What will be written in the following paragraphs? A. The approaches of living in Europe B. The advantages of body language. C. The ways of practicing body language. D. The problems of learning body language. B With light brown eyes and jet-black hair, my mom is my favorite hello and most difficult goodbye. For as long as I can remember, she has been my idol. While working as a judge, she is in pursuit of justice for others. As a mother, friend, and woman, however, she shows a softer side. Her actions show sensitivity, optimism, and kindness unlike any other I have ever known. As an only child, I never received the gift of a sibling (兄弟姐妹) with whom I could share laughs, secrets, or knowing glances from across a room. The older I’ve got, the more I have realized I never needed a sibling, anyway. Back home, my mom and I would wake and have a quick breakfast together, and leave for Jersey City — she is off to work and I went to school. Regardless of cold weather, heavy traffic, or my anxious stomach ache prior to a day of exams, we always had fun. She would tell jokes and we would laugh. With her infectious smile and confident attitude, my mom managed to turn every sad morning of mine into a better day. Now that I am at Rochester, we are separated by nearly 400 miles of sloping highway. I no longer have the chance of looking out a classroom window and seeing her office building standing tall a mile away. Moving away from home was a major shift — and not just because of my new suburban rented room, minimized food options, and much bitter winters. When I am missing my mom especially, I recall the words she told me when I would cry as a young girl: a line from her favorite poem, by author E. E. Cummings. “I carry your heart with me; I carry it in my heart,” she’d smile, wiping away my tears. As I reflect upon that sentence, I can see that there is a piece of my mom with me wherever I go. I guess those 400 miles between the two of us isn’t so distant, after all. 4. What kind of person is the author’s mother? A. She is a strict judge. B. She is a popular poet. C. She is a humorous comedian. D. She is a considerate role model. 5. Why did the author say she never needed a sibling? A. She didn’t like siblings. B. She didn’t want to share a room. C. She was old enough to live alone. D. She was content with her mother’s company. 6. What can we infer about the author’s life at Rochester? A. It is boring. B. It is tough. C. It is unbearable. D. It is unexpected. 7. What is the main idea for the text? A. Fun life of my mother. B. Poems for my mother and me. C. Memory of my separated mother and me. D. Praise for my relationship with my mother. C Two researchers were awarded the Nobel Prize in physics on Oct. 8, 2024, for their pioneering work in the field of artificial neural (神经的) networks. Though artificial neural networks are modeled on biological neural networks, both researchers’ work drew on statistical physics, therefore the prize in physics. The physicist John Hopfield used ideas from physics to study a particular type of neural network, now called the Hopfield network. In particular, he studied what happens to the network over time. During the 1980s, Geoffrey Hinton and his colleagues built on Hopfield’s ideas to create a new class of model. Unlike Hopfield networks that could store patterns and correct errors in patterns, the new model could generate new patterns, thereby planting the seeds of the modern generative AI revolution. Hinton was also part of another breakthrough that happened in the 1980s, which is a key algorithm (算法) that makes it possible to select weights based on the performance of the network on a training data set. However, it remained challenging to train artificial neural networks with many layers. In the 2000s, Hinton and his co-workers cleverly discovered an approach, and the deep learning revolution had begun. The Nobel Prize in physics shows how ideas from physics contributed to the rise of deep earning. Now deep learning has begun to pay back to physics by enabling accurate and fast simulations (模拟) of systems ranging from molecules and materials all the way to the entire Earth’s climate. By awarding the Nobel Prize in physics to Hopfield and Hinton, the prize committee has signaled its hope in humanity’s potential to use these advances to promote human well-being and to build a sustainable world. 8. Why were the two scientists awarded the Noble Prize in physics? A. They discovered neural networks. B. They invented artificial neural networks. C. They are excellent experts in statistical physics. D. They used methods in physics to study artificial neural networks. 9. What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about? A. Geoffrey Hinton’s research. B. John Hopfield’s achievement. C. How modern generative AI revolution began. D. The cooperation between John Hopfield and Geoffrey Hinton. 10. What has led to the deep learning revolution according to the passage? A. Deciding on a training data set. B. Training artificial neural networks. C. Hinton’s breakthrough in the 1980s. D. Finding a way to train multi-layer artificial neural networks. 11. What may be the influence of awarding the Nobel Prize in physics to Hopfield and Hinton? A. Simulations of systems will be more accurate. B. People will employ the development to benefit the Earth. C. More people will be interested in studying physics. D. Deep learning will play a more important role in our life. D Math might be a constant in school, but how it is taught has changed a lot in recent years. One primary motivation for those changes-including the 2010 passage of the Common Core math educational standards—is to prepare students for a more unpredictable and complex future. “Mostly gone are the days when teachers would lecture at the front of the classroom while students quietly took notes. Now, teachers present a few concepts, and then students work together to solve problems in different ways,” says Maria Klawe, president of Math for America, a nonprofit dedicated to helping math and science teachers. However, for many parents, helping their kids with homework has become daunting, as modern methods seem unfamiliar from what they learned in school. A 2021 survey showed more than half of parents feel hopeless when trying to help their kids with homework. So, how is today’s math different—and why is it so essential for tomorrow’s society? Before Common Core math, “Answers were valued over process,” says Jyung, a math teacher. Students were taught to follow strict, step-by-step methods to obtain the correct answer, but these didn’t necessarily make sense to them. But when that approach is used, “Students are unable to apply the concepts to real-world problems or unable to solve very highly complex math problems,” she says. Under Common Core, the focus has shifted. Perhaps the biggest change, though, is the way students tackle problems. Instead of just a handful of methods, Jyung now sees students using various strategies to solve problems—giving them the freedom to choose the best approach. Now, even mistakes are part of the learning process. “As math educators, we believe in productive struggle, like struggling is actually good. That’s where learning happens,” she says. 12. What does the Common Core math educational standards aim to achieve? A. Equip students with the ability to solve problems. B. Motivate students to study harder. C. Prepare students for future exams. D. Improve students’ scores. 13. What does the underlined word “daunting” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Embarrassing. B. Satisfying. C. Rewarding. D. Discouraging. 14. What was the problem of the old method? A. Students can rarely apply math knowledge to practical problems. B. Students find it challenging. C. The math problems are too complex. D. The method is too strict. 15. What does the author intend to express in the last paragraph? A. Remembering various strategies is the key to solving problems. B. Students have the freedom to choose what to learn. C. Math knowledge is less important than tackling problems. D. Mistakes are a significant part of learning. 七选五 Learning how to understand body language is essential if you’re serious about being a good communicator. So they went shopping at the market where everything was of high cost and fixed price. They wanted to maintain their level of standard so they didn’t mind paying for it. After purchasing all they needed, they called a porter to carry everything and drop it at their home. The porter who came was of an old age, and looked very unhealthy, and his clothes were torn, and he looked as if he wasn’t even able to meet his daily needs. They asked the porter about the charges for delivering their goods to their home. The old porter quoted just $20, well below the market price. Yet, the couple argued and bargained with the porter and finally settled for $15. The porter was struggling to make even one time’s meal so he needed anything he could earn. The couple was very happy thinking how well they bargained with the poor porter and paid him $15 in advance and left after giving the porter their address for delivery. They reached their home and one hour passed, and two hours passed, but the porter still didn’t deliver their stuff. The wife started to get angry at her husband, “I always tell you not to trust such person, but you never listen to me. I am sure instead of delivering the goods to our home, he must have disappeared with everything. We must immediately go back to the market to inquire and then to the police station to file the complaint against him.” They both left towards the market. On their way near the market, they saw another porter. They stopped him to inquire about the old porter and noticed that he was carrying their goods in his cart! The angry wife asked him, “Where is that old thief? This is our goods and he was supposed to deliver them. It seems you poor thieves are stealing our goods and going to sell them.” Paragraph 1: When the porter heard the angry wife asking. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Upon hearing this the husband had tears in his eyes, ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 听力1-20 CACAC BCCAB ACBBC ABAAB 高一英语期末试题 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 做题时,先将答案标在试卷上。 1.
