We laugh a lot together and we enjoy the same things: football, fishing... the usual stuff. When I’m feeling down or when I need to talk to somebody, I can always call him. Recently, I was in trouble with my work, and he was a big help — he’s a really good listener. He just let me speak my mind while he listened. But he isn’t perfect! He’s always late and he never apologizes! The last time I saw him was last weekend. We arranged to meet at 4 o’clock to play football, and he arrived at half past six! It was nearly dark! As I have shared in past posts, my husband has a condition called Multiple Sclerosis (MS,多发性硬化症) and has been dealing with his condition for more than 20 years.
Although he has not been diagnosed with dysphagia (吞咽困难) which can occur in people with MS, he has been experiencing symptoms for quite some time now. He has some trouble in swallowing and has great difficulties with his speech.
While dysphagia occurs more frequently in the advanced disease, it can occur at any time. This means my husband must focus on what he is doing when he is eating, as his body will not always naturally swallow for him.
As his MS progresses, he must now focus on what he is doing to complete a task properly. This is a learning curve (学习曲线) for both of us. For my husband it is learning to focus on what he is doing without the distraction (分散注意力) of anyone talking to him and asking for quietness when he needs it. For myself it is learning to sit quietly and wait for him to be done with what he is doing before I talk. It is not an easy task for me because those who know me know that I can be a chatterbox. I am sharing this to educate others about a symptom I knew nothing about until it affected my husband.
For us as a couple this is simply the next part of the learning curve of living with MS. It affects both our lives in different ways and will continue to do so as things progress. We take each day as it comes, and I’ll never know whether it will be a good day or a bad day until he gets up in the morning.
24. What is the author’s husband suffering from?
A. Serious dysphagia. B. Breathing difficulties.
C. Walking disabilities. D. Multiple Sclerosis.
25. What can we know about Multiple Sclerosis?
A. It is caused by dysphagia.
B. It can cause speech problems.
C. It will eventually come to an end.
D. It will get patients’ carers to talk much.
26. Who does the underlined word “chatterbox” in paragraph 4 refer to?
A. A person who talks a lot. B. A person who is very patient.
C. A person who likes to be quiet. D. A person who is well-educated.
27. How does the author feel about her husband’s condition?
A. Hopeful. B. Concerned.
C. Curious. D. Disappointed.
D 25. B 26. A 27. B
由文章第一段“As I have shared in past posts, my husband has a condition called Multiple Sclerosis (MS,多发性硬化症) and has been dealing with his condition for more than 20 years. (正如我在过去的帖子中所分享的,我丈夫患有多发性硬化症(MS),并且已经与这种病抗争了20多年)”可知,作者的丈夫患有多发性硬化症。故选D。
【25题详解】
细节理解题。由文章第二段“Although he has not been diagnosed with dysphagia (吞咽困难) which can occur in people with MS, he has been experiencing symptoms for quite some time now. He has some trouble in swallowing and has great difficulties with his speech. (虽然他还没有被诊断出患有与多发性硬化症相关的吞咽困难,但他已经有一段时间在经历相关症状了。他在吞咽时遇到了一些困难,并且在说话方面也有很大的障碍)”可知,多发性硬化症会导致言语问题。故选B。
【26题详解】
词句猜测题。由文章第四段中“For myself it is learning to sit quietly and wait for him to be done with what he is doing before I talk. It is not an easy task for me because those who know me know that I can be a chatterbox. (对我来说,则是要学会安静地坐着,等待他完成手头的事情后再开口说话。这对我来说并不容易,因为了解我的人都知道,我是chatterbox)”可知,学会安静地坐着对作者来说并不容易,所以作者是一个说话很多的人,所以chatterbox指的是“说话很多的人”,与选项A“A person who talks a lot. (一个说话很多的人)”意思相符。故选A。
由文章最后一段中“For us as a couple this is simply the next part of the learning curve of living with MS. It affects both our lives in different ways and will continue to do so as things progress. We take each day as it comes, and I’ll never know whether it will be a good day or a bad day until he gets up in the morning.(对我们这对夫妻来说,这只是与多发性硬化症共存的学习曲线中的下一个阶段。它以不同的方式影响着我们的生活,并且随着病情的发展,这种影响还将持续。我们过好每一天,而他每天早上起床之前,我都无法预知这一天会是美好的一天还是糟糕的一天)”可知,作者对丈夫的病情表示担忧。故选B。
C
A recent study found walking 10,000 steps a day lowered the risk for dementia (痴呆) by 50%; the risk decreased by 25% with as few as 3,800 steps a day. However, if walking happened at a quick pace of 112 steps a minute for 30 minutes, it maximized risk reduction, leading to a 62% reduction in dementia risk. The 30 minutes of fast-paced walking didn’t have to be finished all at once either — it could be spread out over the day.
The new study, published in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine, followed78,500 people between the ages of 40 and 79 from England, Scotland and Wales who wore wrist step counters for 24 hours a day over a course of seven days.
After counting each person’s total number of steps each day, researchers placed them into two groups: Fewer than 40 steps per minute — which is more of an amble, like when you’re walking from room to room — and more than 40 steps per minute, or so-called “purposeful” walking. A third group was created for peak performers — those who took the most steps per minute within 30 minutes over the course of a day.
About seven years later, researchers compared that data to medical records and found people who took the most steps per minute — in this case, about 80 steps per minute — showed the biggest reduction in risk for cancer, heart disease and early death from any cause. There was a 62% reduction for dementia, an 80% decline for cardiovascular (心血管的) disease and death, and about a 20% drop in risk for cancer.
“This may be related with specific pathways by which physical activity is helpful,” said Pozo Cruz, one of the researchers. “It pushes the body in general: can generate more muscle, a bigger heart and a better fitness, all of which are known protective factors for cardiovascular disease and cancer, and other health issues too.”
28. Who is least likely to develop dementia according to the study?
A. John who walks 3,800 steps a day. B. Tom who walks 10,000 steps a day.
C. Chris who walks 78,500 steps a week. D. Bob who walks 3,360 steps in 30 minutes.
29. What does the underlined word “amble” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A. Jog. B. Rush. C. Slow walk. D. Quick pace.
30. What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. The research results. B. The purpose of walking.
C. The research method. D. The reasons for dementia.
31. Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A. Walking cut the risk of dementia B. Quick walking can be risky
C. The best way to prevent cancer D. Quick walking VS slow walking
D 29. C 30. A 31. A
根据第一段“However, if walking happened at a quick pace of 112 steps a minute for 30 minutes, it maximized risk reduction, leading to a 62% reduction in dementia risk.(然而,如果以每分钟112步的快速速度步行30分钟,则可以最大限度地降低风险,导致痴呆症风险降低62%)”可知,30分钟走3360步的鲍勃最不容易患痴呆症。
根据第四段“About seven years later, researchers compared that data to medical records and found people who took the most steps per minute — in this case, about 80 steps per minute — showed the biggest reduction in risk for cancer, heart disease and early death from any cause. There was a 62% reduction for dementia, an 80% decline for cardiovascular (心血管的) disease and death, and about a 20% drop in risk for cancer.(大约七年后,研究人员将这些数据与医疗记录进行了比较,发现每分钟走最多步的人——在这种情况下,大约每分钟走80步——患癌症、心脏病和任何原因导致的早死的风险降低幅度最大。痴呆症的发病率降低了62%,心血管疾病和死亡的发病率降低了80%,癌症的发病率降低了约20%)”可知,第四段的主要内容是研究结果。故选A。
根据第一段“A recent study found walking 10,000 steps a day lowered the risk for dementia (痴呆) by 50%; the risk decreased by 25% with as few as 3,800 steps a day. However, if walking happened at a quick pace of 112 steps a minute for 30 minutes, it maximized risk reduction, leading to a 62% reduction in dementia risk. The 30 minutes of fast-paced walking didn’t have to be finished all at once either — it could be spread out over the day.(最近的一项研究发现,每天步行1万步可将患痴呆症的风险降低50%;每天只需走3800步,患病风险就会降低25%。然而,如果以每分钟112步的快速速度步行30分钟,则可以最大限度地降低风险,导致痴呆症风险降低62%。30分钟的快节奏步行也不需要一次完成——它可以分散在一天中)”结合文章主要介绍了快步行走的方式有助于降低患痴呆症的风险。可知,A选项“散步可以降低患痴呆症的风险”最符合文章标题。故选A。
D
The western Arctic Ocean is acidifying (酸化) four times faster than other oceans as ice melts at record speeds.
Ocean acidification happens when seawater takes in CO₂ from the atmosphere. With atmospheric CO₂ increasing since the Industrial Revolution, oceans have become 30% more acidic on average, with widespread influences on marine ecosystems. In most ocean basins, the rate of ocean acidification has closely followed increasing atmospheric CO₂ levels, says Weijun Cai at the University of Delaware.
The Arctic Ocean, cold and covered in ice in winter, is different. To understand just how different, Cai and his colleagues looked at data collected on 47 different explorations to the Arctic between 1994 and 2020. They considered both pH levels and aragonite saturation (文石饱和度), which affect whether organisms like coral and oysters can build shells. They found lower levels of both measures correspond to more acidification.
They also found pH decreased about four times faster in the western Arctic on average than in other oceans during the same period. Aragonite saturation decreased three times faster than in other oceans. The area of ocean with low pH and low aragonite grew from almost nothing in 1990 to about 7% of the entire Arctic Ocean in2020.
“So many things can be influenced by this changing chemistry,” says Hongjie Wang at the University of Rhode Island, “from plankton (浮游生物) to the whales that feed on them.” She says Arctic ecosystems especially react quickly.
According to Cai’s group, melting ice is the reason behind the exceptionally rapid rate of acidification. “When you have sea ice melt you create a floating freshwater lake on the top of the ocean surface,” says Cai. He expects that acidification will continue to increase as long as there is summer ice to melt.
32. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. What results ocean acidification causes.
B. What happens during ocean acidification.
C. How acidification takes place in most oceans.
D. How ocean acidification leads to the rise of CO₂.
33. Which can replace the underlined phrase “correspond to” in paragraph 3?
A. Focus on. B. Apply to. C. Come with. D. Sweep away.
34. Which statement will Cai and his colleagues agree with?
A. The lower pH is, the lower rate of acidification is.
B. The lower pH is, the higher rate of acidification is.
C. The higher pH is, the more easily shells can be built.
D. The higher pH is, the more difficultly shells can be built.
35. What does the author want to tell us in the last two paragraphs?
A. The rapid rate of ocean acidification.
B. The food value of plankton to whales.
C. Ways to fight against ocean acidification.
D. Scientists’ concern about ocean acidification.
C 33. C 34. B 35. D
根据第二段“Ocean acidification happens when seawater takes in CO₂ from the atmosphere.
根据第三段中“They considered both pH levels and aragonite saturation (文石饱和度), which affect whether organisms like coral and oysters can build shells. They found lower levels of both measures correspond to more acidification. (他们同时考虑了pH 值和文石饱和度,这两个因素会影响珊瑚和牡蛎等生物能否形成贝壳。他们发现这两项指标的较低水平与更多的酸化情况是correspond to。)”可知,这里说两项指标的低水平和更多酸化情况之间存在关联。correspond to意为“与……相符;伴随着,与……一起出现”。A. focus on集中注意力于;B. apply to适用于;C. come with与…… come with有“与……同时发生,伴随……”的意思,符合语境,可以替换“correspond to”。故选C。
【34题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中“They found lower levels of both measures correspond to more acidification.(他们发现这两种指标的水平越低,酸化程度越高。)”
根据倒数第二段““So many things can be influenced by this changing chemistry,” says Hongjie Wang at the University of Rhode Island, “from plankton (浮游生物) to the whales that feed on them.” She says Arctic ecosystems especially react quickly.(“这种化学变化可以影响很多东西,”罗德岛大学Hongjie Wang说,“从浮游生物到以它们为食的鲸鱼。”她说,北极生态系统反应尤其迅速。)” 和最后一段“According to Cai’s group, melting ice is the reason behind the exceptionally rapid rate of acidification. (根据蔡的团队的说法,冰层融化是导致酸化速度异常快的原因。)”可知,最后两段引用专家的话说明北极生态系统对海洋酸化的快速反应,以及蔡的团队的研究表明冰层融化是酸化速度快的原因,这些都表明了科学家对海洋酸化的担忧。故选D。

【导语】本文是一篇说明文,压力是自然而来的,学会掌控它很重要,本文主要列举了一些应对压力的建议。
【36题详解】
根据空前 上文“There’s simply no way to get rid of stress completely. We all behave a bit differently according to different types of stress.(根本没有办法完全摆脱压力。根据不同类型的压力,我们的行为都会有所不同。)”可知我们每个人无法摆脱压力,根据下文“Eat right. (合理膳食。)”可知文章接下来列举了一些应对压力的建议,空处承上启下,所以空处应该讲到此处有一些适合减压的建议,A项Here are some helpful tips to help you.(这里有一些有用的建议可以帮助你。)
Research shows snack foods are the worst things to have when you’re stressed. Besides, they are not the best way to keep healthy.(合理膳食。研究表明,当你感到压力时,零食是最糟糕的东西。此外,它们不是保持健康的最好方法。)”可知,本段主要是关于正确的饮食问题,空处为本段最后一句,应对上文进行总结,指出虽然每个人都喜欢零食,但是实际上我们需要的是健康的饮食,G项Sure, everyone likes a little comfort food, but you’ll need a balanced diet.(每个人都喜欢一些安慰性的食物,但是你需要一个平衡的饮食。)
Most of our everyday stress is related to school, work, or a host of emotional issues.(动起来。我们每天的压力大多与学校、工作或一系列情绪问题有关。)”以及空后“When we’re under a lot of stress, our bodies can develop a lot of muscle tension. Regular exercise can help you relax and feel better.(当我们承受很大压力时,我们的身体会产生很大的肌肉紧张。有规律的运动可以帮助你放松和感觉更好。)”可知,上文提到了产生压力的原因,后文则说明了运动的好处,空处承上启下,所以空处应与上文构成转折关系,说明体育活动可以帮我们减压,F项However, a bit of physical activity can help us work it off.(然而,一些体育活动可以帮助我们消除疲劳。)
根据后文“Essays won’t write themselves, and good grades require hard work. Don’t think much about the bad things. Give yourself credit where you can improve yourself. Stress is a clear sign of worry, but it doesn’t mean your situation is hopeless.(论文不会自己写好,好成绩需要努力。不要想太多不好事情。在你可以提升自己的地方,要给自己肯定。压力是担心的明显标志,但这并不意味着你的情况是没有希望的。)”可知,本段的中心内容是不要想太多不好的事情,即保持乐观,A项Stay positive.(保持乐观。)概括全段内容,符合上下文境,故选A项。
【40题详解】
根据上文“Speak up. The breakup of your favorite rock band isn’t the end of the world, but sometimes life does throw some real problems at you. But don’t let the stress eat you up.(说出来。你最喜欢的摇滚乐队解散并不是世界末日,但有时生活确实会给你带来一些真正的问题。但是不要让压力吞噬了你。)”以及后文“If you’re feeling seriously depressed and unable to keep up with school and life, speak to a family member or your doctor.(如果你感到非常沮丧,无法跟上学校和生活的节奏,告诉你的家人或你的医生。)” Talk to a trusted friend.(和值得信赖的朋友交谈。)

Located halfway up the Italy’s Apennine Mountains, about 100 miles northeast of Rome, the Hotel Rigopiano has never been easy to reach. But its isolation(隔离) only adds to its appeal, attracting a great number of tourists.
Snow began to fall across the Apennines in January and lasted for days. From his home in the Rome suburbs, Matrone watched the weather with concern. He and his wife, Cicioni, had planned an overnight getaway to the hotel. But now he wondered whether they should go. After phoning the hotel, they decided to make the trip. By the time they neared the hotel six hours later, they were battling a snowstorm. When they finally arrived, they were both cold and exhausted. They checked into the hotel, got into their room and went to bed early.
As they awoke the next day, they discovered that their difficulty had worsened overnight. The cars in the parking lot were invisible. The phone and power lines were down. They were having breakfast when the hotel began to shake. An earthquake with a magnitude(震级) of 5.7 had struck the mountain. “Get out of here!” Matrone shouted to his wife. They headed quickly to the parking lot, where others were digging their cars. Fifteen minutes after the first earthquake, another quake hit, this one measuring 5.6.
With a dozen vehicles freed by noon, the guests set off down the driveway. But when they reached the main road, the path was blocked by a six⁃foot⁃high wall of snow. Matrone climbed out of his car and investigated it. There was no road in sight, “We’re trapped!” he told his wife. So they had no choice but to make their way back to the hotel.
As it was getting dark, they managed to get back. That was when the snow on the mountain began to slide. They heard the avalanche(雪崩) before they saw it. The avalanche gathered speed and size, grabbing rocks and trees and anything else in its way down the mountain, tearing the hotel from its foundation. When the avalanche came to a stop, those who were caught inside the hotel were left buried in the icy rocks and ruins.
Paragraph 1:
When Matrone came to himself,he was stuck in the darkness.

Paragraph 1:
When Matrone came to himself,he was stuck in the darkness. Lying on his stomach, he realized with horror that he was under something heavy and couldn’t move at all. “Cicioni! Cicioni!” he called, but there was no response. He could hear nothing of what was happening on the surface. The whole world was dead still. What he had to face was a terrible reality—they were buried alive. Despair washed over him. He asked himself again and again, “Who is going to save us?”
Paragraph 2:
It was not until the next morning that the rescuers finally arrived. Without any hesitation they got down to detecting the remains of the hotel and they were delighted to discover that there were signs of life. With great efforts they removed the thick snow and began cutting the roof. Then they carefully lowered themselves to get through the hole they’d made. Suddenly they heard someone crying for help. It was Matrone. Later all the survivors were rescued including Matrone’s wife. The couple felt really lucky to be still alive!

C. The best way to prevent cancer D. Quick walking VS slow walking
