The Ross Sea hasn’t been harmed by humans or damaged by overfishing or pollution. However, the rising demand for seafood and the low cost of fuel may encourage some fishermen to brave the journey. ●South Georgia Marine Protected Area The South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands are about 800 miles southeast of the Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic Ocean. Over half of South Georgia Island is ice covered, so there’re no people who are always living here. But the area is a rich environment that supports major populations of seabirds and marine mammals including globally threatened species. ●Greenland National Park Greenland National Park, in the northeast of the Arctic country, isn’t a traditional national park. The only people who arrive here are those hunters from the nearby town of Ittoqqortoormiit. There live different animals such as polar bears, caribou, musk oxen or foxes. ●Chagos Marine Protected Area The Chagos Archipelago is a group of seven atolls (环礁) which form 55 small islands in the Indian Ocean about 310 miles south of the Maldives. The 397,678-square-mile area was made to be a marine re serve in 2010 because it contains the world’s largest coral atoll, along with some of the planet’s cleanest water. It also supports different kinds of sharks—shortfin mako, blue, ocean whitetip and whale sharks. 1. What can we know about Ross Sea Marine Reserve? A. It is built to produce seafood. B. It has a very clean environment. C. It is the newest reserve in the world. D. It has a large number of visitors every year. 2. Why is Greenland National Park considered an untraditional park? A. It is home to rare animals. B. It is a park with few visitors. C. It is very attractive to visitors. D. It is suitable for sea life. 3. The only people who arrive here are those hunters from the nearby town of Ittoqqortoormiit. There live different animals such as polar bears, caribou, musk oxen or foxes. 由文章最后一段中“It also supports different kinds of sharks—shortfin mako, blue, ocean whitetip and whale sharks. In a special school for the hearing-impaired (听觉受损的), he learned sign language and got to mix with other disabled children. However, the sight of all the disabled children communicating with one another upset his mother. She wanted him to lead a normal life. So after speaking to an advisor, she sent him to private classes where he learned to read lips and pronounce words. Later on, Adrian’s parents decided to send him to a regular school. But the headmaster tried to prevent them from doing so, saying regular schools couldn’t take care of a student with special needs. His parents were determined to take the risk and push him hard to go through his work every day because they want to prove that, given the opportunity,he could do anything. Adrian made the grade and got accepted. It was a big challenge. The pace was faster so he had to sit at the front of the class and really pay attention to the teacher, which wasn’t always easy. But he stuck to it and did a lot of extra work after school. The effort made by Adrian and his parents paid off. Adrian graduated with good grades and got into a top high school. He also achieved a lot in life outside school. He developed a love for the outdoors and went to Nepal to climb mountains. He even entered the World Yacht Race 05/06, being the first hearing-impaired Asian to do so. But none of these achievements would have been possible without one of the most important lessons from his mother.“If you believe in yourself and work hard, you can achieve great result” she often said. 4. 根据第一段中的“In a special school for the hearing-impaired (听觉受损的), he learned sign language and got to mix with other disabled children.(在一所专门为听障儿童开设的学校里,他学会了手语,并与其他残疾儿童混在一起)”可知,艾德里安用手语与特殊学校里的其他残疾儿童交流。 根据第一段中的“She wanted him to lead a normal life. So after speaking to an advisor, she sent him to private classes where he learned to read lips and pronounce words.(她想让他过正常人的生活。因此,在咨询了一位顾问后,她把他送到了私人课程,在那里他学会了读唇语和发音)”及第二段中的“Later on, Adrian’s parents decided to send him to a regular school.(后来,艾德里安的父母决定送他去一所普通学校)”可知,艾德里安的父母决定把他送到一所普通的学校,因为他们想让他像普通人一样生活。故选A。 根据第二段中的“The pace was faster so he had to sit at the front of the class and really pay attention to the teacher, which wasn’t always easy. But he stuck to it and did a lot of extra work after school.(于上课的节奏越来越快,他不得不坐在教室的最前面,全神贯注地听老师讲课,这并不容易。但他坚持下来,放学后做了很多额外的工作)”及第三段中的“The effort made by Adrian and his parents paid off. Adrian graduated with good grades and got into a top high school. He also achieved a lot in life outside school. (艾德里安和他父母的努力得到了回报。艾德里安以优异的成绩毕业,进入了一所顶尖的高中。他在校外的生活中也取得了很多成就)”可知,阿德里安是一个天生残疾的孩子,但他通过自己的努力,父母的帮助,却做到了常人都很少做到的事,他是成功的,他和命运来了次比赛,他是胜利者。由此推知,阿德里安的一生被形容为一场“神奇的赛跑”,因为尽管他有残疾,他还是实现了自己的目标。故选C。 C Wooden houses surrounded by a thick forest, classical music playing softly in the background, a very special cafe, three meals a day and several outdoor activity areas. This sounds like a dream vacation arrangement (安排). But this is not a place for people. It’s for cats in the province of Samsun, Türkiye. Kedi Kasabas, or “cat town”, is one interesting place in the country, a place where cats can experience what real comfort is! The town, which covers an area of around 20 acres, is run by the local city and most admitted guests have a hard backstory. “All cats here are homeless and usually go through suffering s before being brought here. They are either injured or mentally suffer. We treat them and put them back into the town. The environment here is really beautiful for them,” Faruk Kan, a Kedi Kasabas vet, said. Kan is not the only vet working at the shelter. There’s a whole team looking after the cats and making sure all their needs are met. The place even has a special area for sick or injured cats, where they receive personalized (个性化的) treatment. There are currently 150 animals living in “cat town”, and the number keeps rising. There are wooden houses where they can rest, and also houses designed for socializing. During the winter they are provided with heated accommodation, so feeling convenient and warm is a sure thing for these furry creatures. The love for cats seems to be a Turkish favourite. Istanbul is known for being home to several hundred thousand cats. There, people take care of street cats like kings. The four-legged friends are fed and kept healthy and they have already become part of the city view. Even though cats may have a happy life outdoors in the forest or wandering around in the city streets, there’s nothing like having a stable (稳定的) home, lying next to a human friend. 8. What can be learned about “cat town”? A. It is quite difficult to reach. B. It is peaceful and comfortable. C. It is very expensive to run. D. It serves special coffee to visitors. 9. What does the underlined word “guests” in paragraph 3 refer to? A. Cats. B. Visitors. C. Workers. D. Volunteers. 10. What do we know about the cats in “cat town”? A. They are thrown by their owners. B. They came from pet lovers. C. They are friendly to humans. D. They used to suffer a lot. 11. Which does the author think is the best place for a cat probably? A. The forest. B. The city streets. C. A human’s home. D. A pet hospital. B 9. A 10. D 11. 根据第一段对猫城的形容“Wooden houses surrounded by a thick forest, classical music playing softly in the background, a very special cafe, three meals a day and several outdoor activity areas. This sounds like a dream vacation arrangement (安排). (木屋被茂密的森林包围,古典音乐在背景中轻柔地播放,一个非常特别的咖啡馆,一日三餐和几个户外活动区域。这听起来像是一个梦幻般的假期安排)”可知,猫城的环境是幽静而舒适的。故选B。 【9题详解】 词义猜测题。根据第三段划线词后“All cats here are homeless and usually go through suffering s before being brought here. (这里所有的猫都是无家可归的,通常在被带到这里之前都会经历痛苦)”可知,后文详细介绍这里的猫的情况,由此推出guests指的是被收留的猫。故选A。 根据第三段Faruk Kan 所说的话“All cats here are homeless and usually go through suffering s before being brought here. They are either injured or mentally suffer. (这里所有的猫都是无家可归的,通常在被带到这里之前都会经历痛苦。他们要么身体上受伤,要么精神上受到折磨)”可知,这里的猫曾经身体或精神上受到了伤害。故选D。 【11题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段的内容“Even though cats may have a happy life outdoors in the forest or wandering around in the city streets, there’s nothing like having a stable (稳定的) home, lying next to a human friend. (尽管猫可能在森林里过着快乐的户外生活,或者在城市的街道上游荡,但没有什么能比得上有一个稳定的家,躺在人类朋友身边)”可知。作者强调猫咪还是要有一个稳定的家,有人类陪伴是最好的,即猫的最好的归宿是在人类的家里。故选C。 D Many of us sometimes find ourselves wondering or even worrying about the future. Will we get into the school of our choice? What will we be doing in ten years’ time? Can we become the person we really want to be? Faced with such questions, how should we head for the future? Can we take action to shape it, or should we just accept whatever comes our way? As we know, having plans for the future doesn’t mean that they will become reality. In this respect, some people are more fortunate than others, as can be seen by comparing the lives of two famous authors. Although they both were ambitious, their life journeys unfolded in totally different ways. The American author, Ernest Hemingway was from early boyhood single-minded in his ambition to write. On leaving high school, he joined a local newspaper and went on to become a foreign correspondent He used his extraordinary experiences in Europe and later Cuba to inform his writing. His short novel The Old Man and the Sea won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953. He later won the Nobel Prize in Literature. Authur Conan Doyle, born in Scotland, had originally worked as a doctor. But Doyle’s main ambition was to become a writer of historical novels. Although some of his historical novels were published, their success was nothing compared to his detective (侦探) stories, Sherlock Holmes. Interestingly, he finished some of the earliest Sherlock Holmes stories while waiting for patients. After Sherlock Holmes made him a household name, Doyle gave up medicine and threw himself entirely into writing. Though both were finally successful, their paths to success were very different, their futures not necessarily turning out exactly as they planned. So, whatever twists (曲折) and turns you might come across, take a leaf out of the books of these two authors and be prepared for the unexpected. 12. How does the author introduce the topic? A. By making comparison. B. By quoting famous people’s words. C. By raising questions. D. By presenting opinions. 13. What does the underlined word “inform” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Publish. B. Adapt. C. Influence. D. Revise. 14. What does the story of Authur Conan Doyle show? A. Success may come in an unexpected way. B. It’s better to stick to one’s original goal. C. Self-confidence is the first step to success. D. A good beginning is half done. 15. What is the most suitable title for the text? A. Making Life Plans B. Facing the Future C. The Secret of Writing D. Twists and Turns in Life 【答案】12. C 13. C 14. A 15. 根据第一段的“Will we get into the school of our choice? What will we be doing in ten years’ time? Can we become the person we really want to be? Faced with such questions, how should we head for the future? Can we take action to shape it, or should we just accept whatever comes our way?(我们能进入自己选择的学校吗?十年后我们会做什么?我们能成为我们真正想成为的人吗?面对这样的问题,我们应该如何走向未来?我们可以采取行动来塑造它,还是我们应该接受我们的方式?)”和第二段的“As we know, having plans for the future doesn’t mean that they will become reality. In this respect, some people are more fortunate than others, as can be seen by comparing the lives of two famous authors.(正如我们所知,为未来制定计划并不意味着它们将成为现实)”推知,作者通过提问的方式引入本文的主题。 根据划线词所在句子“He used his extraordinary experiences in Europe and later Cuba to inform his writing. His short novel The Old Man and the Sea won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953. (他利用在欧洲和后来在古巴的非凡经历来inform他的写作。他的短篇小说《老人与海》于1953年获得普利策小说奖)”可知,欧内斯特·海明威的短篇小说《老人与海》获得了普利策小说奖,由此可知,他在欧洲和后来在古巴的非凡经历影响了他的小说。因此inform意为“影响”,与influence同义。故选C。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“Authur Conan Doyle, born in Scotland, had originally worked as a doctor. After Sherlock Holmes made him a household name, Doyle gave up medicine and threw himself entirely into writing.(柯南·道尔出生于苏格兰,最初是一名医生。 故选A。 再结合第一段的“Will we get into the school of our choice? What will we be doing in ten years’ time? Can we become the person we really want to be? Faced with such questions, how should we head for the future? Can we take action to shape it, or should we just accept whatever comes our way?(我们能进入自己选择的学校吗?十年后我们会做什么?我们能成为我们真正想成为的人吗?面对这样的问题,我们应该如何走向未来?我们可以采取行动来塑造它,还是我们应该接受我们的方式?)”可知,B项“面对未来”可以作为本文的最佳标题。故选B。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to Make Friends in a New School Starting with a new school can be difficult. But the price-five dollars was too high for Jack. Five dollars would buy almost a week’s food for his family. Jack couldn’t ask his father for the money. Everything his father made through fishing went to his mother, Dora. Slim and beautiful, she was the center of the home, the glue that held it together. The housework was never-ending, and she struggled to feed and clothe their five children but she was happy as her family and their well-being were all she cared about. Nevertheless, he opened the shop’s door and went inside. Standing proud and straight in his shabby shirt and washed-out trousers, he told the shopkeeper what he wanted, adding, “But I don’t have the money right now. Can you please hold it for me for some time?” “I’ll try,” the shopkeeper smiled. “People around here don’t usually have that kind of money to spend on such things. It should be kept for a while.” Jack respectfully touched his worn cap and walked out. He would raise the money and not tell anybody, for he thought Mum would get surprised when she saw that hairpin. On hearing the sound of hammering from a side street, Jack suddenly had an idea that he could raise money by selling the used nail bags. People built their own homes in Bay Roberts, using nails bought in bags from a local factory. Sometimes the used bags were thrown away at the construction site, and Jack knew he could sell them back to the factory for five cents a piece. That day he sold two nail bags and hid the money in a rusty soda tin. Paragraph 1: Every day after school, Jack started his plan. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Finally, the time came! _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Every day after school, Jack started his plan. Cold and hungry, Jack wandered the streets, searching for the nail bags carefully. To save more money, he even decided to deliver papers in the early morning. Exhausted and tired as he felt, he still stuck to the plan. It was the hairpin in the shop window that reminded him that what he did was worthwhile. After a long time of hard work, he made it eventually. Finally the time came! He took out the soda tin, poured the coins out and began to count them. Five dollars! His hard work paid off! Holding the soda tin firmly, Jack rushed for the shop to buy the hairpin. The moment he got the beautiful hairpin, he rushed home and placed it in Dora’s hand. Never had Dora received such a gift. Speechless and happy, she held her son tightly into her arms, with tears welling up in her eyes. It was an unforgettable experience, which all the family members will remember. 购买:buy/purchase ③.递给:hand sth. to sb./give sth. to sb. 疲劳的:exhausted/tired out ②.开心的:happy/delighted 【点睛】[高分句型1]. B. B Adrian’s “Amazing Race” started early, when his parents realized that he, as a baby, couldn’t hear a thing, not even loud noises. 4 How did Adrian communicate with other disabled children in the special school? A. By speaking. B. By using sign language. C. By writing letters. D. By making loud noises. 5. Why did Adrian’s parents decide to send him to a regular school? A. He reached his goals in spite of his disability. D. He took part in the world Yacht Race 05/06. C Wooden houses surrounded by a thick forest, classical music playing softly in the background, a very special cafe, three meals a day and several outdoor activity areas. 9 What does the underlined word “guests” in paragraph 3 refer to? A. Cats. B. Visitors. C. Workers. D. Volunteers. 10. Which does the author think is the best place for a cat probably? A. The forest. B. The city streets. C. A human’s home. D. A pet hospital. D Many of us sometimes find ourselves wondering or even worrying about the future. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 听力1-20AACBAABBCCBCABCBCCAB 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
