Ⅰ.阅读理解(每小题2.5分,共10分)
(2023·郑州一中高二期中)
If you are addicted to reading sci-fi,you may realize something.Contrary to the common misunderstanding that reading sci-fi is a worthless practice, reading it may help young people cope with(处理) the stress and anxiety and develop critical thinking skills and emotional intelligence.
Historically, parents have considered literature “good” for young people if it provides moral guidance that reflects their own values. The question is,how does literature of sci-fi perform its educational function? This is central to the conflict over what kids should read. For a long time, those who read it have been stigmatized (侮蔑) as geeks who can't cope with reality.
A new survey found that these sci-fi readers were also major consumers of a wide range of other types of books. In fact, the survey noted a close connection between reading varied literary forms and the ability to understand science.Rather than limiting readers' ability to deal with reality, exposure to outside-the-box stories may expand their ability to engage with reality based on science.
Science fiction and fantasy do not need to provide a mirror image of reality in order to offer stories about serious social and political issues. In many sci-fi novels youths see examples of young people tackling with serious social, economic, and political issues. This gives readers an approach to coping with complexity and using their imagination to manage real-life challenges. It is why it is powerful and where its value lies.Sci-fi explores uncertainty and describes young people as brave characters, survivors and shapers of their own fates(命运).What better way to cope with the uncertainty in life than with sci-fi?
Reading sci-fi,young people can see themselves responding, surviving and learning lessons that may enable them to create their own strategies for life. And the critical thinking and wise habits of mind shaped by this type of literature may actually produce creativity that everyday life and reality typically do not.
