阅读理解(每小题2.5分,共20分) A Towards the end of high school, one of my best friends and I had a fight. She told me I had no common sense, I replied that she was childish, and in a matter of minutes, we went from inseparable to very separate. We didn’t speak for most of our senior year. We both found other friends, avoiding each other like the plague (瘟疫). A few months after graduation, I learned that she was having some trouble. I sent her a message: “I’m still here, if you ever need me. ” She replied shortly after. We reunited, and thus ended our friendship break. Friendship breakups aren’t all that uncommon. People grow apart and fight. But friendship breaks are a different story. While they’re often healthy, sometimes, they’re also tough to control. Sometimes, like in my case, they happen suddenly and with zero intentions to reunite. In other situations, they’re more of a slow burn. Katie, 33, says she took a break from her best college friend after a few tense exchanges, like when the friend pressured Katie—then a graduate student on a tight budget—to go on an international trip. “We’d probably been friends for ten years at the time of the break,” Katie says. “I felt that the relationship had stopped being enjoyable. ” For four years, she and her friend sent only the occasional text messages. Then, a year and a half ago, the two women happened to move to the same town. “She asked whether I would like to meet,” Katie says, “and we took it slowly, speaking on the phone and going for lunches and a few nights out. ” Once you reconnect, you may find that your friendship is totally different, for better or for worse. “A friendship break allows both friends to reassess the situation and see if they miss each other during the cooling-off period,” says sociologist Jan Yager. “When they do reconnect, it might be with a new perspective. ” 语篇解读 本文是一篇夹叙夹议文。文章主要讲的是朋友之间难免会产生矛盾,导致友谊暂时中断,但这一中断期可以让双方重新审视彼此间的关系。 1.Why did the author break up with her friend? A.Because they had a big argument. B.Because her friend befriended other students. C.Because her friend avoided the author purposely. D.Because they got bored with playing with each other. A。 2.Why did the author send her friend a message? A.She wanted to share her story. B.She intended to visit her. C.She still cared about her. D.She needed her help. 根据第二段中的“I’m still here, if you ever need me. ”可推知,尽管友谊中断,但得知朋友遇到麻烦的消息后,作者还是发去了信息,因为她心里还记挂着昔日的朋友。故选C。 3.What do we know about Katie and her friend? A.They have been friends for over ten years. B.They rebuilt their friendship gradually. C.They were eager to fix the broken friendship. D.They lost touch with each other after graduation. 根据第四段中的“‘She asked whether I would like to meet,’Katie says,‘and we took it slowly, speaking on the phone and going for lunches and a few nights out. ’”可推知,Katie和朋友碰巧又搬到了同一个小镇,于是她们开始慢慢修复友谊。故选B。 4.What’s Jan Yager’s opinion of the friendship break? A.It will harm friendship in the long run. B.It is a necessary part of friendship. C.It usually results in reconnection. D.It is a time for reflection. 根据最后一段中的“A friendship break allows both friends to reassess the situation and see if they miss each other during the cooling-off period”可推知,Jan Yager认为友谊中断期可以让双方冷静下来重新审视彼此间的关系。故选D。 B You might see loneliness as someone (usually an old person) sits alone, staring into the distance or out of a window. Such images are deceptive. Researchers have actually found that those who report experiencing loneliness the most are young people, and such images of solitude (孤独) don’t match the experience of loneliness during youth. Those years are typically spent surrounded by other people,at school or at work. Loneliness during youth can be defined as a negative feeling about a difference between the relationships we have and those we want. This means we might feel lonely in the company of others if we don’t feel they understand us or share common interests with us. Although loneliness is often a difficult experience,it can help us to reconnect and to rethink our relationships so that we can build (or seek out) the ones that mean the most to us. There are certain features of youth that tend to give rise to loneliness. In youth, our friendships are increasingly important in providing us with emotional support. Research shows that young people have higher expectations of their friendships than adults do;they show a preference for larger friend groups, more companionship and higher frequency of contact with friends. When we consider that loneliness serves the function of keeping us safe within our social world,it makes sense that the feeling like we do not “fit in”,as so many young people feel, gives rise to loneliness. Another reason is our developing sense of self-discovering who we are. That often means changes to values or beliefs. It can be challenging when your friends are going through the same process, but might not follow the same path as you. Young people often report feeling lonely at school, while home is a comfortable space. But when there are difficulties at home—such as arguments or tension with family members and the departure of supportive family members—these can make the feeling of loneliness worse. If you find yourself feeling lonely and it seems like nothing is helping,do not give up hope. It is likely that you have not yet found the strategy that works for you. Here are some practical steps you can try, starting with what you can do on your own and moving on to ways to connect with others. 5.Which of the following can replace the underlined word “deceptive” in Paragraph 1? A.Irrelevant. B.Disgraceful. C.Misleading. D.Unfortunate. 根据第一段的“Researchers have actually found… by other people,at school or at work. ”可知,第一段开头所描绘的画面是有欺骗性的,因此deceptive的意思是“有欺骗性的,具有误导性的”,和C项misleading意思相近,故选C。 6.What does loneliness of young people usually refer to? A.Not having a preference for dealing with tough things alone. B.Not having friends or family for company when in trouble. C.Not having interest in others’ school life within the social world. D.Not having positive attitude to the present relationships with others. 根据第二段的“Loneliness during youth can be defined … or share common interests with us. ”可知,年轻人的孤独通常指的是对目前与他人的关系没有积极的态度。故选D。 7.Which of the following is NOT mentioned as the reason of young people’s loneliness? A.Discovery of self-identity. B.Desire for more friends. C.Difficulties at home. D.Unfamiliar environments. 根据第三段的“Research shows that young people… is our developing sense of self-discovering who we are. ”和“But when there are difficulties … feeling of loneliness worse. ”可知,年轻人孤独的原因包括自我认同的发现、渴望更多的朋友和家里的困难。文章中并未提及陌生的环境,故选D。 8.What will the text probably talk about next? A.Suggestions on how to beat loneliness. B.More reasons that cause the feeling of loneliness. C.Strategies to deal with the arguments or tension in family. D.Ways to face the departure of supportive family members. 根据最后一段的“Here are some practical steps … connect with others. ”可推知,文章接下来可能会讲战胜孤独的建议,故选A。 Ⅱ.完形填空(每小题1分,共15分) (2024·河北沧州期末) Christian Bowers, now 24, has Down Syndrome (唐氏综合征) and it’s been hard for him to find good friends.
