I was gassing up my car at a station and noticed an elderly lady who looked confused as she read some hand-written directions. She approached me for help and showed me a brochure for a retirement community and directions someone had given her. Apparently, she didn’t have a smartphone.
So I grabbed my smartphone and typed in her destination. I showed her step-by-step directions on an app, informing her that it was a direct route and that she would be there in no time. She thanked me sincerely and drove off.
It was a week after my late mom’s birthday. My eyes teared up, thinking about what had happened. Helping this lady made me feel like I was helping my mom. I recognized how frightened and hopeless she probably felt in an unfamiliar place, facing the prospect of driving on the highway alone.
I felt a deep sense of gratefulness that I could be helpful and ease her fears. I also felt aware that this brief interaction between strangers had deeper significance for me, making me reflect on the kind of man I desire to be.
All I have learned over the years has brought me to these kinds of moments when what I claim to believe and value is tested in how I choose to handle a situation. Do I brush someone aside, prioritizing (优先考虑) my own needs? Or do I generously lend my time to help others?
Our wisdom increases by choosing to become wise through life experiences, especially the hard ones. An act of kindness toward a stranger is a choice that emerges from earlier choices about who you want to be. Your choice to act in one way or another says everything about what you truly believe. There is a world of meaning and significance behind the simple act of “helping an old lady”.
24.What troubled the elderly lady?
A.How to fill vehicle’s tank by herself. B.How to follow directions on the map.
C.How to recognize the written address. D.How to get to a retirement community.
25.Why did the author cry?
A.He recalled the memories of his mom. B.He failed to explain the route precisely.
C.He regretted not to accompany the lady. D.He feared to drive alone on the highway.
26.Why did the incident matter to the author?
A.It served as a chance to admire the old. B.It reminded him of what belief he held.
C.It gave him a way to get rid of his fears. D.It pushed him to employ his time wisely.
27.Which might be a suitable title for the text?
A.Help Strangers, Find Directions in Life. B.Valuable Lessons Learned on the Road.
C.Helping Others Reveals Your Character. D.The Warmth From a Mother-like Lady.

“To get ahead in this world, don’t we need a little bit of perfectionism?” As someone who has researched perfectionism for over a decade, I’m asked this question a lot. And I used to think that was true. It’s hard to succeed nowadays. You’ve got to sacrifice yourself, keep pushing well beyond what’s comfortable, and live life on your tiptoes. That’s just the common things in a competitive society where there are only a few winners, I believed.
Yet, research finds that perfectionism has no relationship with performance. Perfectionistic people struggle really hard, but they’re no more likely to be successful. One reason is that perfectionistic people work hard but unsustainably so. They often find themselves in the sapping zone and opposite returns on their efforts.
Another is that many perfectionists are world champions at selfdoubt. When things get tough, when it looks like failure is heading their way, the anticipated shame and embarrassment are so fierce that perfectionistic people are unwilling to put forth any further effort that might allow others to discover their shortcomings. So, they simply give up to avoid fears of failure, which makes failure more likely.
For perfectionists, dialing down goals and aiming for excellence instead doesn’t usually work. On the contrary, it’s important to learn to embrace the inevitability of setbacks, failures, and things not going quite as planned. It’s important to be able to sit comfortably with these humanizing experiences, to let them be, and not need to drive them out of existence.
So we shouldn’t struggle to be perfect because perfectionism doesn’t lead to success. Instead, do recognize that learning to embrace imperfections and setbacks helps us to accept ourselves and keep moving forward.
28.What is the author’s initial belief about perfectionism?
A.It has no relationship with performance.
B.It leads to self-doubt and fear of failure.
C.It is unsustainable and leads to burnout.
D.It is necessary for success in tough society.
29.What does the underlined word “sapping” mean in paragraph 2?
A.Falling. B.Reserving. C.Exciting. D.Refreshing
30.Why do many perfectionists give up when faced with challenges?
A.They are not willing to work hard.
B.They are afraid of shame from failure.
C.They are unwilling to accept any failure.
D.They are unable to dial down their goals.
31.What is the best title of the text?
A.Why You Should Embrace “Good Enough”
B.Why Kids Need“Intelligent Failure”
C.What Is A Better Way To Seek Guidance
D.What We Can benefit From Perfectionism
D
A new study predicts that climate change will cause thousands of new viruses to spread among many kinds of animals by 2070. The researchers say such spread will likely increase the risk of new diseases that pass from animals to humans.
The scientists created a model to see how these species might migrate (迁徙) and share viruses in the next 50 years if the world warms by 2℃. Recent research has suggested that such a temperature rise is possible.
The team said the model predicted that cross-species virus spread will happen more than 4,000 times among mammals. The researchers said not all viruses will spread to humans or lead to widespread pandemics like COVID-19. However, the study suggests that the high number of cross-species viruses will increase the risk of spread to humans.
The study points to two major worldwide crises that could cause diseases to be passed from animals to humans — climate change and infectious disease spread.
Past research has looked at how deforestation, the disappearance of species and the wildlife trade can lead to animal-human disease spread. But there has been less research on how climate change could influence this kind of disease spread, the researchers said.
“We don’t talk about climate a lot in the context of zoonoses (人畜共患病),” said study co-writer Colin Carlson, a professor of biology. “Our study brings together the two most pressing global crises we have, ” Carlson added.
Aaron Bernstein, a medical doctor, said the study confirms long-held suspicions about the effects planet warming can have on the creation of new infectious diseases. He noted that the study suggests such cases may already be happening with greater frequency and in places near where many people live.
Study co-writer Gregory Albery said because climate-driven infectious diseases are likely already being created, the world should be doing more to learn about and prepare for it. “It’s not preventable, even in the best climate change cases,” he said.
32.How was the research carried out?
A.By analyzing climate effects. B.By making a comparison.
C.By making predictions. D.By creating a model.
33.What’s Bernstein’s attitude to the new study?
A.Doubtful. B.Indifferent. C.Favorable. D.Critical.
34.What’s the purpose of the last paragraph?
A.To prove climate change is serious. B.To show it’s urgent to make preparations.
C.To confirm diseases break out frequently. D.To stress continuous learning is important.
35.Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Climate change may increase the risk of zoonoses.
B.Climate change has caused many deadly diseases.
C.Climate change is unlikely to stop any time soon.
D.Climate change will lead to global warming.

Adam lived in Florida with his wife, Georgia. They had a simple life in a beautiful neighborhood, and most of their neighbors were great. Unfortunately, there was one neighbor Adam just couldn’t befriend, no matter how hard he tried. The neighbor, John, was always involved in Adam and Georgia’s business.
While John had always been annoying, the last few weeks were the worst as John found something new to focus his attention on. Adam had a large tree in his yard. As fall approached, the tree started to cause trouble. Leaves constantly fell from the tree, never-ending no matter how often Adam cleaned them up. The leaves got so bad at some point that some neighbors made their way over to John’s yard, which started a fight between the two homeowners.
As fall continued, the leaves only grew worse, and both men spent time every day sweeping up messes. John quickly grew sick of it, and demanded Adam do something about his tree. He even threatened to cut down the tree himself several times.
Adam was also tired of the tree. Under normal circumstances, he’d probably be willing to cut down the tree himself. But he’d noticed something in the tree that prevented him from cutting it down.
On a bright Saturday morning, Adam returned home after his usual morning run. As he approached his house, he noticed John standing in his yard, glaring at the tree with an angry look. Despite the tension, Adam, who always tried to be friendly, gave John a cheerful wave. However, John’s reaction was far from warm. He shouted back, “If you don’t remove this tree soon, I’ll come over and cut it down myself!”
Adam shook his head as he spoke to John. “I wouldn’t go near that if I were you. You never know what might be in the tree,” he warned before heading into his house. John, however, had no idea about what Adam was talking about.

W: Wow, you know a lot about the cat’s body language. Could you tell me more about it?

Hello, it’s great to be back here at high school. I’m very happy to speak to you all about having a career in medicine. So, should you go into medicine? In fact, choosing a career is so important — it’s worth going along to open days. These are put on by various institutions and universities for you to get an insight into the various fields you could go into. Well, you need to be prepared for the ups and downs when you start the career in medicine. You’ll experience burnout — working nights is standard for junior doctors. What’s tougher than anything else, especially after spending time with a patient, is breaking the news. It never gets easier. You know, medicine isn’t a field that sits still. There’s no end of openings for further training, and it’s something that doctors are very much encouraged to do as part of their working life. Anyway, in the short time I’ve been working, I’ve found my job very worthwhile, and I certainly have no regrets. There is nothing better than the satisfaction of seeing a very ill patient recover.

【答案】24.D 25.A 26.B 27.C
根据文章第一段提到“I was gassing up my car at a station and noticed an elderly lady who looked confused as she read some hand-written directions. She approached me for help and showed me a brochure for a retirement community and directions someone had given her.(我在一个加油站给我的车加油时,注意到一位老年女士在读一些手写的路线时看起来很困惑。她向我寻求帮助,并给我看了一张养老社区的宣传册和某人给她的路线。)”可知,困扰老年女士的是如何到达养老院。故选D。
25.推理判断题。根据文章第三段“It was a week after my late mom’s birthday. My eyes teared up, thinking about what had happened.(那是我已故母亲生日后的一周。想到发生的事,我热泪盈眶。)”可知,作者哭了是因为他想起了妈妈的回忆。故选A。
根据文章第四段“I felt a deep sense of gratefulness that I could be helpful and ease her fears. I also felt aware that this brief interaction between strangers had deeper significance for me, making me reflect on the kind of man I desire to be.(我深感欣慰,因为我能帮上忙,缓解她的恐惧。同时,我也意识到,这短暂陌生人之间的交集对我来说有着更深的意义,它让我反思自己想要成为什么样的人。)”和第五段“All I have learned over the years has brought me to these kinds of moments when what I claim to believe and value is tested in how I choose to handle a situation.(这些年来我所学到的一切都让我陷入了这样的时刻:我所声称的信仰和价值观,在我选择如何处理一种情况时受到了考验。)”
根据文章最后一段“An act of kindness toward a stranger is a choice that emerges from earlier choices about who you want to be. Your choice to act in one way or another says everything about what you truly believe. There is a world of meaning and significance behind the simple act of ‘helping an old lady’.(对陌生人的一次善举,源于你之前关于自己想成为什么样的人的选择。你选择以这种方式或那种方式行事,就说明了你真正相信什么。‘帮助一位老太太’这一简单行为背后蕴含着深远的意义和价值。)”可知,本文主要讲述了作者帮助老年女士这一事件及其意义,强调了善良行为背后所蕴含的深意和价值,帮助他人可以揭示你的性格,所以C项“Helping Others Reveals Your Character(帮助他人揭示你的性格)”适合作为本文标题。故选C。

【答案】28.D 29.A 30.B 31.A
根据文章第一段““To get ahead in this world, don’t we need a little bit of perfectionism?” As someone who has researched perfectionism for over a decade, I’m asked this question a lot. And I used to think that was true. (“为了在这个世界上取得成功,我们不需要一点完美主义吗?”作为一个研究完美主义十多年的人,我经常被问到这个问题。我曾经认为这是真的。)”可知,作者认为要出人头地,我们需要一点完美主义,因此作者最初认为完美主义是在社会上取得成功的必要条件。故选D项。
29.词句猜测题。根据第二段中“Perfectionistic people struggle really hard, but they’re no more likely to be successful. One reason is that perfectionistic people work hard but unsustainably so. (完美主义者非常努力,但他们不太可能成功。一个原因是完美主义者工作努力,但不会持续。)”可知,完美主义者工作努力但不会持续。再根据第二段中划线词所在的后文“opposite returns on their efforts (他们的努力得到了相反的回报)”可知,完美主义者工作努力却得到了相反的回报,也就是这种状态是不好的,与他们的努力相反。故划线词意思是“令人疲惫的、消耗精力的”,其含义与选项A. Falling (下降的)意思相近。故选A项。
根据第三段中“Another is that many perfectionists are world champions at selfdoubt. When things get tough, when it looks like failure is heading their way, the anticipated shame and embarrassment are so fierce that perfectionistic people are unwilling to put forth any further effort that might allow others to discover their shortcomings. (另一个原因是,许多完美主义者是自我怀疑的世界冠军。当事情变得艰难,当失败似乎正在走向他们时,预期的羞耻和尴尬是如此激烈,以至于完美主义者不愿意做出任何可能让别人发现他们缺点的进一步努力。)”可知,许多完美主义者在面对挑战时会放弃,因为他们害怕失败带来的羞耻感。故选B项。
31.主旨大意题。根据第二段中“Yet, research finds that perfectionism has no relationship with performance. (然而,研究发现完美主义与最后取得的成绩无关。)”以及最后一段“So we shouldn’t struggle to be perfect because perfectionism doesn’t lead to success. Instead, do recognize that learning to embrace imperfections and setbacks helps us to accept ourselves and keep moving forward. (所以我们不应该努力追求完美,因为完美主义不会带来成功。相反,要认识到,学会接受不完美和挫折有助于我们接受自己并继续前进。)”可知,文章主要讲述了新的研究表明,完美主义并不一定能带来成功,反而可能会让人筋疲力尽,害怕失败。相反,我们应该学会接受不完美和挫折,这样才能接受自己。因此A项“为什么你应该拥抱“足够好””为最佳标题。故选A项。

【答案】32.D 33.C 34.B 35.A
根据第二段“The scientists created a model to see how these species might migrate (迁徙) and share viruses in the next 50 years if the world warms by 2℃.(科学家们创建了一个模型,看看如果全球变暖2℃,这些物种在未来50年内如何迁移和共享病毒)”可知,这项研究通过创建模型进行。故选D。
根据倒数第二段“Aaron Bernstein, a medical doctor, said the study confirms long-held suspicions about the effects planet warming can have on the creation of new infectious diseases. He noted that the study suggests such cases may already be happening with greater frequency and in places near where many people live.(医学博士亚伦·伯恩斯坦表示,这项研究证实了人们长期以来对地球变暖可能对新传染病产生影响的怀疑。他指出,这项研究表明,这类病例可能已经在更频繁地发生,而且发生在许多人居住的地方附近)”可知,伯恩斯坦对这项新研究的态度是支持。故选C。
34.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Study co-writer Gregory Albery said because climate-driven infectious diseases are likely already being created, the world should be doing more to learn about and prepare for it. “It’s not preventable, even in the best climate change cases,” he said.(该研究的合著者格雷戈里·阿尔贝里说,由于气候驱动的传染病可能已经产生,世界应该做更多的工作来了解它并为此做好准备。“即使在气候变化最好的情况下,这也是不可预防的,”他说)”可知,最后一段的目的是表明做准备的紧急。故选B。
35.主旨大意题。根据第一段“A new study predicts that climate change will cause thousands of new viruses to spread among many kinds of animals by 2070. The researchers say such spread will likely increase the risk of new diseases that pass from animals to humans.(一项新的研究预测,到2070年,气候变化将导致数千种新病毒在多种动物中传播。研究人员表示,这种传播可能会增加从动物传染给人类的新疾病的风险)”结合文章主要说明了最新研究表明气候变化会增加人畜共患病的风险,解释了研究开展的经过以及发现。可知,A选项“气候变化可能会增加人畜共患病的风险”最符合文章标题。故选A。
In a world where screens often blur (模糊) the line between reality and representation, taking care of your emotional well-being is key to avoiding destructive thoughts and unnecessary comparisons. 36
● Encourage authenticity

● Share valuable content
If you want to have a positive social media presence, think twice before posting the image you just edited. 39 . But you shouldn’t depend on them. Share inspiration, motivation, and personal goals to foster a positive environment.
40 . A study in Applied Psychology suggested that people who are exposed to negative news and images on the Internet are at an increased risk of depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
A.Avoid social comparisons
B.Focus on inner feelings
C.Keep in mind that AI tools can be great helpers
D.That keeps you better connected with your audience
E.Honest representation contributes to a more positive body image for you
F.Here are some recommendations when editing images for your social networks
G.On the whole, never underestimate the power of the things you post on social media
【答案】36.F 37.E 38.A 39.C 40.G
36.根据上文“In a world where screens often blur (模糊) the line between reality and representation, taking care of your emotional well-being is key to avoiding destructive thoughts and unnecessary comparisons.(在一个屏幕经常模糊现实和表现之间界限的世界里,照顾好你的情绪健康是避免破坏性想法和不必要比较的关键。)”
37.根据上文的句子“Remember that it’s okay to edit your photos or videos a bit if it makes you feel more confident. Avoid drastically changing your appearance using artificial intelligence tools.(记住,如果能让你感觉更自信,可以稍微编辑一下你的照片或视频。避免使用人工智能工具大幅改变你的外表。)”可知,作者建议不要大幅编辑自己的照片,下文应该接着说这样做的好处,所以E项“Honest representation contributes to a more positive body image for you(诚实的展示有助于给你一个更积极的身体形象)”填入空格处,符合语境。且E项与下文的句子“Therefore, try to highlight your natural beauty.(因此,尽量突出你的自然美。)”
根据下文的内容“Don’t fall into the trap of comparing yourself to unrealistic standards when editing your images. Comparing yourself to others can negatively affect your confidence and emotional well-being. Give importance to your personal accomplishments and celebrate your authenticity rather than seeking recognition through outward appearance.(在编辑图像时,不要陷入将自己与不切实际的标准进行比较的陷阱。把自己和别人比较会对你的自信和情绪健康产生负面影响。重视你的个人成就,庆祝你的真实,而不是通过外表寻求认可。)”可知,此处作者主要是建议不要把自己和别人比较,不要通过外表寻求认可。所以,A项“Avoid social comparisons(避免社会比较)”填入空格处,可以作为该部分的主题句,符合语境。故选A项。
39.根据空格后的句子“But you shouldn’t depend on them.(但是你不应该依赖它们。)”
40.根据空格后的例子“A study in Applied Psychology suggested that people who are exposed to negative news and images on the Internet are at an increased risk of depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder.(《应用心理学》上的一项研究表明,在互联网上接触负面新闻和图片的人患抑郁症、焦虑症和创伤后应激障碍的风险更高。)” 所以G项“On the whole, never underestimate the power of the things you post on social media(总的来说,永远不要低估你在社交媒体上发布的东西的力量)”填入空格处,符合语境。故选G项。

56.organized 57.enthusiasm 58.signing 59.its 60.successfully 61.to demonstrate 62.on 63.who 64.attracted 65.the
故填its。
故填to demonstrate。
故使用on。
故填who。
in the first place表示“一开始”,固定词组。故填the。

2】I would appreciate it if you had a chance to join our celebration one day.(运用了if引导的条件状语从句)
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
Three days later, John took action.

Stepping out of his car, Adam rushed to check the bird’s nest.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Three days later, John took action. When Adam was in the middle of an important meeting, his phone rang, and he decided to ignore it initially. However, Georgia called repeatedly, making Adam realize that something serious was happening. In a trembling voice, Georgia told him that John was cutting down the tree! Adam rushed out without informing his boss. He had an urgent matter to address, which required his immediate action. The drive home felt like it went on forever. Adam struggled to stay calm, though his anger was simmering just beneath the surface.
Stepping out of his car, Adam rushed to check the bird’s nest. Adam’s heart raced as he picked up the bird’s nest. Much to his relief, it was undamaged, with delicate baby birds inside. Upon seeing what was in Adam’s hands, John was shocked. “I had no idea that …”Adam, eyes fierce yet caring, replied. “I can’t ruin their home just because of some fallen leaves.” Learning the hidden secret, John regretted his action, and the gravity of what he had done began to settle on him. Slowly, he put the chainsaw down and sighed, realizing that nothing could outweigh the harmony between human and nature.
②由第二段首句内容“Stepping out of his car, Adam rushed to check the bird’s nest.(Adam走出车,冲去检查鸟巢。)”
