It was a hard final soccer match. Just before it ended, I kicked the winning goal. “Ollie! You are really our hero!” My best friend Mike gave me a hug and cheered excitedly. Everyone was happily celebrating, and even a couple of dogs joined in.
Then I heard a loud voice, “Stop!”
I turned around and saw two dogs playing with a long red toy. Soon everyone crowded around and I realized they weren’t playing with a toy at all. It was the surprise scarf I’d been knitting (编织) for Mike!
I ran over to try to get my scarf back. Unluckily, two boys from the other team took it first and laughed at me.
“Hey, soccer star! Does this belong to you?”
“That’s my knitting!” I said, “Could you please give it back?”
“Ha, knitting is for girls!” One boy laughed, throwing the scarf to the other.
I smiled and said, “If you love my scarf, you can keep it. I’ve been planning to make another one in green.”
“I think knitting is for boys too.” Mike asked, “________”
“Of course!” I replied.
Finally, the two boys threw my scarf back and said “sorry” as they ran off.
Our coach ended up celebrating our big win by ordering some pizzas. After we ate up, I showed Mike how to do a few basic knitting skills. Then, believe it or not, five more teammates wanted to learn. We decided to get together another day so that I could teach them.
So the people who think boys should do only “boy” things and girls should do only “girl” things can have their opinions. I just disagree and want to do what I like to do!

Reshi completed a 12-page children’s book, Alice and Sparkle, with the help of a chatbot called ChatGPT. A chatbot is a computer program that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to imitate human thinking and writing. The book’s text was produced using it, and Reshi created illustrations (插图) using another AI program, Midjourney, which uses special computation (计算) rules to translate words into images.
When Reshi posted the book online, it became very popular with children. Some people praised Reshi for being clever. However, not everyone was happy. Some artists criticized the book. They said the pictures were of poor quality, and more importantly, the way the pictures were made was a big problem.
Midjourney works by searching through millions of images on the internet. It uses algorithms to find patterns in these images and make new ones. The problem is, Midjourney takes images from artists’ work without asking for permission.
Some companies have already started using AI instead of human workers. For example, an AI robot told jokes at a comedy club instead of a person. The San Francisco Ballet also used AI-created images for advertising a ballet show called The Nutcracker.
Many artists and writers are worried about their jobs. They fear that if AI can create art and writing for less money, people may not pay them for their work.
Josephine, a journalist who makes money from writing, says, “I love writing, but it’s troubling to see people looking for cheaper choices instead of supporting real human writers.”
There is a real concern about protecting the work of artists and writers who could have their creations used by AI programs. The technology industry that develops these tools should involve artists in the process of making them.
23.The passage is most likely to be taken from a ________.
A.newspaper B.science fiction C.storybook D.travel guide
24.What does the underlined word “algorithms” mean in Paragraph 3?
A.Creative ideas. B.Millions of pictures.
C.Useful tools. D. Computation rules.
25.In Paragraph 4, the writer shows the popularity of using AI by ________.
A.listing numbers B.giving examples
C.making comparisons D.showing opinions
26.What’s the writer’s attitude towards Reshi’s event?
A.Supportive. B.Uncaring. C.Critical. D.Changeable.
【答案】23.A 24.D 25.B 26.C
根据“Midjourney, which uses special computation (计算) rules to translate words into images.”可知, Midjourney,它使用特殊的计算规则将单词翻译成图像,结合“It uses algorithms to find patterns in these images and make new ones. ”可知,它就是用这种算法规则在这些图像中寻找模式,并制作新的图像,所以划线单词表示“运算规则”,故选D。
25.细节理解题。根据“For example, an AI robot told jokes at a comedy club instead of a person. The San Francisco Ballet also used AI-created images for advertising a ballet show called The Nutcracker.”

When you’re at high school, the littlest things can feel like a pretty big deal. Missing a deadline, failing an exam, or even getting a pimple (痘痘).
Entered my mum, with her words of wisdom: “You don’t want to peak at high school.” I was about 13 when she first said it and I was so surprised to hear that!
Every time I failed, Mum would repeat her advice, “none of this is going to mean anything to you in ten years’ time” or “you will laugh at this one day”.
I am uncertain of the exact moment when her words woke me up, but they had by the time I actually got to year 12. I think what Mum was trying to say was that there is no fun in having everything done at high school. It’s a mess, but it’s meant to be. Your skin will clear up, you will find your circle of friends, and your grades. Once you’re out of high school, you will see the world and you will realise just how small you are in it. But that’s a good thing. Those little-but-huge things become little things. They really do mean nothing ten years later and you really do laugh about them.
In all, those years of high school are just a stepping stone to the rest of your life. The start of it, really. If you peak at that point, if your best moments are at high school, how can you go forward? Mum’s advice still guides 28-year-old me when things are difficult. I no longer look at life as an endless hike up to a certain point at which I have “made it”. There’s no summit. Rather, life is full of ups and downs. Mum’s advice now serves to remind me that there are always better days ahead.
27.What is a little-but-huge thing according to the text?
A.Losing a pencil. B.Not passing an exam.
C.Getting a new friend. D.A serious traffic accident.
28.What’s the meaning of the underlined sentence in Paragraph 4?
A.Life is a mess and it’s no use crying over spilled milk.
B.Life is full of problems and you should fight for what you want.
C.It’s truly a mess to get into troubles and you can change nothing.
D.It’s natural to have hard times and you’ll grow up when getting through.
29.In Paragraph 5, what does the underlined word “it” refer to?
A.High school. B.A stepping stone.
C.The best moment. D.The rest of the life.
30.What’s the main idea of the passage?
A.It introduces the writer’s problems at high school.
B.It discusses the influence of her mother’s advice on her growth.
C.It gives suggestions to deal with the littlest things in daily life.
D.It describes the ways to perform well at high school.
【答案】27.B 28.D 29.A 30.B

根据第四段“I think what Mum was trying to say was that there is no fun in having everything done at high school. It’s a mess, but it’s meant to be. Your skin will clear up, you will find your circle of friends, and your grades...”
根据“In all, those years of high school are just a stepping stone to the rest of your life. The start of it, really.” 故选A。
Express Your Thanks
You probably say “thank you” often—such as when a friend holds the door, or a grandparent sends a gift for your birthday. Showing thanks not only makes others feel good, but also helps you feel more joyful and less sad or stressed, according to experts at Harvard University. It is also something you can practice. Here’s how.
31
Take a few minutes to find out what you’re thankful for. Is it someone or something that makes you happy or makes you laugh? Is it someone you know—like a parent or teacher—who helps you? Is it something that makes your life better? Maybe it’s an activity or a hobby you enjoy. It can also be something you have that you realize others may not have.
32
Try to write the things you’re thankful for on sticky notes every day. Make a “thanks wall” in your room so that you can read them often. Whenever you feel upset, you can take them out to remind yourself of what makes you feel happy and thankful. Let being thankful become a part of your life.
33
Giving your time to others helps them—but it can also benefit you, too. For example, if you clean the yard for an elderly neighbor, you can take a moment to feel thankful that you are able to make their day easier. If you help a classmate with homework, you can feel good about sharing your knowledge.
34
Thanksgiving is a perfect time to exchange thanks with family. At the dinner table, each person can take a turn to share at least one thing they feel thankful for, for example, to give thanks for the company of the people in your life or the natural beauty of the outdoors.
A.Make it a habit
B.Do a “thanks search”
C. Volunteer your time
D.Start with a greeting
E. Share thanks with family
Who or what do you want to say thanks to? How do you express your thanks?

As he went to high school, he found things were getting 41 to learn. So he started to make plans every day and 42 goals for himself. “I would 43 follow the plan, and little by little I’d see my 44 .”
Jia would also 45 what he learned each day before going to bed. If there was something he couldn’t remember well, he’d take a look at it the next morning.
“I was not good at English in high school, 46 I printed the vocabulary list and stuck it onto my bed. Every morning when I woke up, I 47 through them, and it’s a good way to remember things.”
When Jia felt stressful, he had a 48 way to relax: working on math problems. “I’d find difficult problems to 49 myself, and when I worked it out, I felt really happy.”
As he told The Paper, he hopes he can 50 his curiosity and study habits in university, and keep challenging himself to become a better person.
