B Professor Smith was teaching his class. All the students in the class were listening to the lecture with great interest. But among those students, there was Nick, who was sitting quietly and in a bad mood. The professor took notice of Nick on the first day but did not say anything. But when this went on for a week, he called Nick in his office after the class and asked, “You appear to be depressed all the time. What is the matter?” Nick said with some hesitation, “Sir, the new term seems a little bit tough for me and something happened last month, due to which I remain troubled. I don’t know what to do.” Professor called Nick to his house in the evening. When Nick arrived, the professor went to the kitchen and started making lemonade. He deliberately put more salt in the lemon juice. Then he gave a glass of lemonade to Nick. As soon as Nick had a small drink, due to the taste of excess salt, his mouth became sour. Seeing this, the professor asked, “What happened? Did you not like the lemon juice?” “No sir, this is not the case. Just because of the salt in the drink,” Nick said. “Hey, now give me the glass. I will throw it away.” The professor reached out to get the drink from Nick. But Nick refused, saying, “No sir, I think if you add some sugar to the drink, the taste will be better.” Upon hearing this, the professor became serious and said, “You are right. See, this lemon juice is like your life. Just as salt cannot be taken out of the lemon juice, similarly those bad experiences cannot be separated from life. But by adding some sugar it can change the taste of the lemon juice.” Nick nodded and smiled in relief. 24. Why did Nick fail to focus in Smith’s class? A. He was still disturbed by the past. B. He was too nervous to concentrate. C. The lecture was hard to understand. D. Professor Smith was too demanding. 25. What does the underlined word “excess” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A. D. Generous and lovely. 27. What can we learn from the story? A. Bad experience will always follow you. B. Nothing is better than a comforting word. C. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. D. Life without an aim is like sailing without a compass. C Insect numbers have dropped by half in some parts of the world due to climate change and intensive agriculture, a study has found. Preserving habitats (栖息地) for nature could help ensure vital insects thrive (兴旺). Lead researcher, Dr. Charlie Outhwaite, said losing insect populations could be harmful not only to the natural environment, but also to human health and food security, particularly with loss of pollinators (传粉者). “Our findings highlight the urgency of actions to preserve natural habitats, slow the expansion of high-intensity agriculture, and cut emissions to reduce climate change,” she added. In the latest study the researchers pulled together data on the range and number of nearly 20,000 insect species, including bees, ants, butterflies, grasshoppers and dragonflies, at about 6,000 different locations. In areas with high-intensity agriculture and significant warming, insect numbers have dropped by 49% and the number of different species by 27%, compared with relatively untouched places that have so far avoided the severest effects of climate change, according to the research, published in Nature. But the researchers said that setting aside areas of land for nature could create a place for insects, which need shade to survive in hot weather. “Careful management of agricultural areas, such as preserving natural habitats near farmland, may help ensure that vital insects can still thrive,” said Dr. Tim Newbold. Study researcher Peter McCann added, “We need to acknowledge how important insects are for the environment as a whole, and for human health and well-being, in order to address the threats we pose to them before many species are lost forever.” 28. What has caused the fall of insect numbers? A. Climate change and farming. B. Planting more and more trees. C. Growing more and more grass. D. People’s hunting insects thoughtlessly. 29. How could losing insect populations have a bad influence? ①Being bad for people’s health. ②Being harmful to industrial products. ③Having a bad effect on food security. ④Doing harm to the natural environment. ⑤Having a bad influence on water quality. A. ②④⑤ B. ③④⑤ C. ①②③ D. ①③④ 30. What is the main idea of Paragraph 3? A. The results of the study. B. The problems with the study. C. What influences insects may have. D. What kinds of insects were included. 31. Why should areas of land for nature be set aside according to Dr. Tim Newbold? A. To supply fresh air. B. To provide shade. C. To provide earth. D. To supply energy. D Race walking shares many fitness benefits with running, research shows, while most likely contributing to fewer injuries. It does, however, have its own problem. Race walkers are conditioned athletes. The longest track and field event at the Summer Olympics is the 50-kilometer race walk, which is about five miles longer than the marathon. But the sport’s rules require that a race walker’s knees stay straight through most of the leg swing and one foot remain in contact with the ground at all times. It’s this strange form that makes race walking such an attractive activity, however, says Jaclyn Norberg, an assistant professor of exercise science at Salem State University in Salem, Mass. Like running, race walking is physically demanding, she says. According to most calculations, race walkers moving at a pace of six miles per hour would burn about 800 calories (卡路里) per hour, which is about twice as many as they would burn walking, although fewer than running, which would probably burn about 1,000 or more calories per hour. However, race walking does not beat on the body as much as running does, Dr. Norberg says. According to her research, runners hit the ground with as much as four times their body weight per step, while race walkers, who do not leave the ground, create only about 1.4 times their body weight with each step. As a result, she says, some of the injuries related to running, such as runner’s knee, are uncommon among race walkers. But the sport’s strange form does place considerable stress on the ankles and hips, so people with a history of such injuries might want to be cautious in adopting the sport. In fact, anyone wishing to try race walking should probably first turn to a coach or experienced racer to learn proper technique, she says. It takes some practice. 32. Why are race walkers conditioned athletes? A. They must run long distances. B. They are qualified for the marathon. C. They have to follow specific rules. D. They are good at swinging their legs. 33. What advantage does race walking have over running? A. It’s more popular at the Olympics. B. It’s less challenging physically. C. It’s more effective in body building. D. It’s less likely to cause knee injuries. 34. What is Dr. Norberg’s suggestion for someone trying race walking? A. Getting experts’ opinions. B. Having a medical checkup. C. Hiring an experienced coach. D. Doing regular exercises. 35. Which word best describes the author’s attitude to race walking? A. Doubtful. B. Objective. C. Favorable. D. Critical. People today are living a good life. They think health is the most important. They try doing many things to keep healthy. It was a sunny afternoon in June, and we were having a picnic at the park. We had been friends since childhood, and we shared everything: our hobbies, our dreams, our secrets. We were inseparable. But that day, something changed. We got into a heated argument over a trivial(不重要的)matter. I don’t even remember what it was about, but I know it was something silly and unimportant. Maybe it was about who ate the last sandwich. It doesn’t matter now. What matters is that we both said things we didn’t mean. We both raised our voices and hurt each other’s feelings. We both acted stubbornly and refused to apologize. We both stormed off in different directions, leaving behind our picnic basket and our friendship. I spent the rest of the day alone in my room. I tried to distract myself with music, but nothing could fill the emptiness in my heart. I wanted to talk to Anna and I wanted to say I was sorry. But I didn’t know how to do that. I didn’t know if she would forgive me, or if she even wanted to see me again. The next day, I went to school with a heavy heart. I avoided eye contact with Anna, and sat as far away from her as possible. I pretended that I didn’t care, but I did. I cared a lot. During the break, I saw her sitting on a bench, looking lonely and sad. She was holding a piece of paper in her hand, and tears were rolling down her face. I felt a wave of regret. I wanted to go to her. But I didn’t have the courage. I turned around and walked away. I thought that was the end of our friendship, and that we would never speak to each other again. Surfing In the 1920s, surfing fans began asking for the sport to be added to the Olympic program. Surfing was included in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Then the famous surfing place, Teahupo’o in Tahiti, has hosted the surfing competition in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The speed, power and flow of surfers are important in the games. The variety, type and difficulty of the tricks have also been judged by five judges. Breaking Breaking, also known as break dancing, started in the Bronx, New York City, in the1970s as part of hip-hop culture. It grew as part of the underground culture of the 1980s. A. Very little. B. Too much. C. Rather bitter. D. Pretty smelly. 26. Which of the following words can best describe Professor Smith? A. Strict but patient. B. Clever and caring. C. Depressed but brave. D. Generous and lovely. 27 What can we learn from the story? A. Bad experience will always follow you. B. Nothing is better than a comforting word. C. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. D. Life without an aim is like sailing without a compass. A 25. B 26. B 27. 根据第二段“Nick said with some hesitation, “Sir, the new term seems a little bit tough for me and something happened last month, due to which I remain troubled. I don’t know what to do.”(Nick犹豫了一下,说:‘老师,新学期对我来说似乎有点难,而且上个月发生了一些事情,让我一直很烦恼。我不知道该怎么办。’)”可知,Nick仍为过去的事所困扰导致在Smith的课上不能集中注意力。故选A项。 根据划线词上文“When Nick arrived, the professor went to the kitchen and started making lemonade. He deliberately put more salt in the lemon juice. Then he gave a glass of lemonade to Nick.(Nick到达后,教授走进厨房开始制作柠檬水。他故意在柠檬汁里加了更多的盐。然后他给了尼克一杯柠檬水)”可知,划线单词修饰salt(盐),结合上文,由第三句中的“put more salt”可知,教授往柠檬汁里放了更多的盐,所以excess为“太多的”之意,和B项意思相近。故选B项。 【26题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Upon hearing this, the professor became serious and said, “You are right. See, this lemon juice is like your life. Just as salt cannot be taken out of the lemon juice, similarly those bad experiences cannot be separated from life. But by adding some sugar it can change the taste of the lemon juice.” Nick nodded and smiled in relief.(听到这话,教授变得严肃起来,说:‘你说得对。 根据最后一段“Upon hearing this, the professor became serious and said, “You are right. See, this lemon juice is like your life. Just as salt cannot be taken out of the lemon juice, similarly those bad experiences cannot be separated from life. But by adding some sugar it can change the taste of the lemon juice.” Nick nodded and smiled in relief.(听到这话,教授变得严肃起来,说:‘你说得对。你看,这柠檬水就像你的生活。就像盐不能从柠檬水中分离出来一样,那些不好的经历也无法从生活中分离出来。但是通过加点糖,它可以改变柠檬水的味道。’尼克点了点头,释然地笑了)”以及通读全文可知,这个故事告诉我们:要面对生活中的不好的经历并尝试改善,正如C选项所说的“当生活给你柠檬时,把它做成柠檬水”。故选C项。 C Insect numbers have dropped by half in some parts of the world due to climate change and intensive agriculture, a study has found. In the latest study, the researchers pulled together data on the range and number of nearly 20,000 insect species, including bees, ants, butterflies, grasshoppers and dragonflies, at about 6,000 different locations. A 29. D 30. A 31. 根据第一段中“Insect numbers have dropped by half in some parts of the world due to climate change and intensive agriculture, a study has found. (一项研究发现,由于气候变化和集约化农业,世界上一些地区的昆虫数量减少了一半)”可知,气候变化和农业导致昆虫数量下降。故选A项。 根据第二段中“Lead researcher, Dr. Charlie Outhwaite, said losing insect populations could be harmful not only to the natural environment, but also to human health and food security, particularly with loss of pollinators (传粉者). (首席研究员Charlie Outhwaite博士说,昆虫数量的减少不仅对自然环境有害,而且对人类健康和粮食安全有害,特别是传粉者的减少)”可知,昆虫数量减少会对人们的健康有害,对食品安全造成不良影响,对自然环境造成危害。故选D项。 【30题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第三段中“In areas with high-intensity agriculture and significant warming, insect numbers have dropped by 49% and the number of different species by 27%, compared with relatively untouched places that have so far avoided the severest effects of climate change, according to the research, published in Nature. (发表在《自然》杂志上的这项研究表明,与迄今为止避免了最严重气候变化影响的相对未受影响的地区相比,在高强度农业和显著变暖的地区,昆虫数量下降了49%,不同物种数量下降了27%)”可知,本段主要呈现了该研究基于数据得出的结果。故选A项。 根据第四段中“But the researchers said that setting aside areas of land for nature could create a place for insects, which need shade to survive in hot weather. (但研究人员表示,为自然留出一些土地可能会为昆虫创造一个地方,昆虫需要阴凉处才能在炎热的天气中生存)”可知,留出一些自然用地可以为昆虫提供阴凉,使其生存下去。故选B项。 D Race walking shares many fitness benefits with running, research shows, while most likely contributing to fewer injuries. A. Doubtful. B. Objective. C. Favorable. D. Critical. C 33. D 34. A 35. 根据第二段中“But the sport’s rules require that a race walker’s knees stay straight through most of the leg swing and one foot remain in contact with the ground at all times. It’s this strange form that makes race walking such an attractive activity (但这项运动的规则要求,竞走运动员的膝盖在腿摆动的大部分时间内保持笔直,一只脚始终保持与地面接触。正是这种奇怪的形式使竞走成为一项如此有吸引力的活动)”可知,竞走者是受限制的运动员,是因为他们必须遵守特定的规则。故选C项。 【33题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“As a result, she says, some of the injuries related to running, such as runner’s knee, are uncommon among race walkers. (因此,她说,一些与跑步有关的损伤,比如跑步者的膝盖,在竞走者中并不常见)”可知,相比于跑步,竞走的优势是不太可能导致膝盖受伤。故选D项。 【34题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“In fact, anyone wishing to try race walking should probably first turn to a coach or experienced racer to learn proper technique, she says. (她说,事实上,任何想尝试竞走的人都应该首先向教练或有经验的运动员学习适当的技术)”可知,Norberg博士建议尝试竞走的人征求专家的意见。故选A项。 通读全文,尤其是第一段中“Race walking shares many fitness benefits with running, research shows, while most likely contributing to fewer injuries. It does, however, have its own problem. (研究表明,竞走与跑步有许多相同的健身好处,而且很可能减少受伤。然而,它也有自己的问题)”可知,作者既提到了竞走的健身益处和减少运动伤害的优势,也指出了其独特的运动形式可能带来的问题,如对脚踝和髋部的压力。因此,作者是以一种中立的方式呈现了竞走的相关信息,其态度是客观的。A. People today are living a good life. But I was wrong 注意: 1. As I was walking back to class, I felt a tap on my shoulder. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Anna and I both smiled and cried. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】As I was walking back to class, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around and saw Anna standing behind me, holding out the piece of paper. It was a drawing of us, holding hands and smiling. Underneath it, she had written: “I’ m sorry. Can we be friends again?” I looked at her, and saw the sincerity in her eyes. I got emotional and hugged her. I said: “I’ m sorry too. Of course we can be friends again.” Anna and I both smiled and cried. We forgave each other, and promised to never fight again. We realized that our friendship was more important than any argument. We walked back to class, feeling happy and relieved. I had almost lost my best friend, but I had found her again. We both had learned a valuable lesson that even best friends need to communicate promptly to clear up misunderstandings. I will never forget that day, and I will always value our friendship. 词汇激活 行为类 ①看:look at /watch ②拥抱:hug/embrace ③意识到:realize /be aware of ④珍视:value/treasure 情绪类 ①快乐的:happy/pleased ②宽慰:comforting/relieved 【点睛】[高分句型1] We realized that our friendship was more important than any argument.
