Section Ⅳ　Using language 主谓一致(1) 语法串烧 我的发现 The police are① searching for a thief in the town. All means have② been tried, but they still failed to keep track of him. The only clue is that the furniture in the room was③ moved. According to the fingerprint left on the furniture，he was found. At last the thief was sent into prison. ①中police为集合名词，其谓语动词通常用复数形式。 ②means单复数同形，谓语动词据其表达的意义而定。 ③furniture为不可数名词，其作主语时谓语动词用单数形式。 主谓一致是指句子的谓语动词和其主语在人称和数上必须保持一致。本单元侧重讲解集体名词作主语时的主谓一致问题。 一、集体名词的概念 集体名词表示由个体组成的集体，指一群人或某一事物的总称。 二、集体名词作主语时的用法 1．个体集体名词表示复数含义，作主语时谓语动词通常用复数形式，如：police，people，cattle, mankind, clothes, trousers等。 The police are searching for a tall dark man with a beard. 警察正在搜寻一个留着胡子、皮肤黝黑的高个子男人。 2．有的集体名词通常只用作不可数名词，表示单数意义，用作主语时，谓语动词用单数形式，如：clothing, poetry, luggage, furniture, machinery, scenery, jewellery, equipment等。 The furniture in the room has been made to order. 这个房间的家具是定做的。 Most of their equipment has been shipped ahead of schedule. 他们的大部分设备已提前运走了。 3．团体集体名词作主语时，谓语动词可用单数形式，也可用复数形式。若视为整体，谓语动词用单数形式；若强调其中的各个成员时，谓语动词用复数形式，如：family, team, class, crowd, government, club, committee, public等。 As far as I know，his family is a big one.(强调整体) 据我所知，他家是一个大家庭。 When I visited them yesterday，the family were having dinner.(强调成员) 昨天当我拜访他们时，他们一家人正在吃饭。 His luggage is very heavy，and he needs someone to help him. 他的行李很重，需要有人帮他一下。 4．单复数同形的名词有means，sheep，deer, fish, species，series等，据其表达的单复数的意义而定。 学生用书↓第82页 All possible means have been tried，but none of which is perfect. 所有可能的方法都试了，但是没有一个是完美的。 Every possible means has been tried and the result is very good. 每一个可能的方法都试了而且结果非常好。 [巧学活用]——用所给动词的适当形式填空 ①The football team is(be) made up of 23 members. ②The class are(be) reading English novels. ③There are(be) various means of communicating with a stranger. ④People have shown(show) great love to the victims since the disaster happened. ⑤The audience was (be) so large that no seat was left unoccupied in the hall. 学科网（北京）股份有限公司 $$
