My high school life has been filled with many ups and downs, whether it was social or academic. Even though my current high school was not my first choice, I never regretted attending Southside High School. “Since you have chosen it, then it is the best for you,” said my parents.
Up until the junior year I did not realize my capabilities (能力) as a student. Being in the IB Program, I was told that my junior year would be the toughest in all the years of high school. With this “little” piece of information, I walked into my junior year, scared of my grades. As weeks went by, I started to believe that the junior year was not as hard as everyone had said, but I was wrong. My grades were rapidly declining (下降) and by the end of the first term I had had five Cs in seven of my classes!I could not believe it — I did not want to believe it. I tried my best to get my grades up myself without any help from anyone, but my pride just made my grades worse. And I had to miss out on one of the most important speech and debate competitions all year: States. I was heartbroken. I realized that I could not survive my junior year on my own, so I had to get help fast.
Once I got a tutor, my grades went from Cs, Ds, and even some Fs, to nothing but As and Bs. I slowly started to gain my confidence back in all of my classes and even myself. By the time the third and fourth quarter came around, I had been on the honor roll twice, and I had received awards from speeches and debates, tennis and school.
Southside has taught me to always keep my head up and never give up on myself no matter what life throws at me. I am proud to be a Southside Tiger.
4. What can we learn from the first paragraph?

C. The writer has met many challenges since she attended high school.
D. Life has become easier since the writer came to Southside High School.
5. How did the writer feel when she walked into her junior year?
A. Excited. B. Worried.
C. Curious. D. Uninterested.
6. Why was the writer’s study worse and worse?
A. She didn’t work hard enough.
B. She didn’t ask others for help because of her pride.
C. She missed many important speeches.
D. No one would like to help her.
7. What important lesson has the writer learned at Southside High School?
A. Students should face challenges bravely.
B. Students should be careful in choosing school.
C. Students should be proud of their school.
D. Students should better learn about life.

C
School is, waking up early in the morning, whether it is hot or cold, putting on the school uniform and rushing to the bus stop to catch the school bus and getting used to the words “Hurry up! You will be late!” You reach school and again the same words “Hurry up!” do not let you rest in peace.
Throughout the day, it is a mad rush. One period gets over, the other starts and you are ready for the second subject. When you forget to do your homework, you try to sit at the back and pretend to be looking for something on the floor or in your bag. You are lucky if you are not seen and it is bad luck if you get caught. If you are not lucky, be ready for a good scolding during break or after school. If you are lucky and your teacher is in a good mood, you may be left with a warning.
However, school is not so dull all the time; the games, library periods and break are welcome time. When you can relax, joke and have fun with your friends. There are some teachers, too, who can make school very exciting. For example, Mr. Taneja, has a typical style of talking, making us always hooked on the playground.
School can be fun, real fun, when picnics and field trips are organized. We wait for them eagerly and keep on requesting our class teacher to organize one for us. Debates, quizzes, cultural programs also add luster to an otherwise dull school life. Fun increases after real hard work and you tend to enjoy more than those who had been lazy and have wasted their time. I think this period of your life is the most wonderful period — full of dreams and hope.
8. How is the school life described by the author in the passage?
A. Dull and stressful. B. Stressful but interesting.
C. Strict and fearful. D. Annoying but funny.
9. What can we conclude (总结)according to the second paragraph?
A. Some students hope to get away with their fault.
B. Teachers should be more patient to their students.
C. Some students dislike finishing their homework.
D. Teachers should reduce (减少)the amount of homework.
10. Which subject does Mr. Taneja teach at school?
A. Physics. B. Language. C. Chemistry. D. Physical Education.
11. What does the underlined word “luster” mean in the passage?
A. Difficulty. B. Value. C. fun. D. Trouble.
B 9. A 10. D 11. C

You will be late!” You reach school and again the same words “Hurry up!” do not let you rest in peace.(学校就是,无论天热还是天冷,早起,穿上校服,冲到公交车站赶校车,习惯了“快点!” 不要让你安静休息)”和最后一段“School can be fun, real fun, when picnics and field trips are organized.(当组织野餐和实地考察时,学校可以很有趣,真正的有趣)”可知,作者描述的学校生活是既紧张又有趣的。故选B。

If you are lucky and your teacher is in a good mood, you may be left with a warning.(当你忘记做作业时,你试着坐在后面,假装在地板上或包里找东西。
根据第三段“For example, Mr. Taneja, has a typical style of talking, making us always hooked on the playground.(例如,Taneja先生有一种典型的说话风格,让我们总是沉迷于操场上)”可知,Taneja先生是一名体育老师。故选D。

Some students get so nervous before a test. They do poorly even if they know the material. Sian Beilock, a professor at the University of Chicago in Illinois, has studied these highly anxious test-takers. The students start worrying about the results. And when they worry, it actually uses up attention and memory resources (资源).
Professor Beilock and another researcher, Gerardo Ramirez, have developed a possible solution. Just before an exam, highly anxious test-takers spend ten minutes writing about their worries about the test.
The researchers tested the idea on a group of twenty anxious college students. They gave them two short maths tests. After the first one, they asked the students to either sit quietly or write about their feelings about the upcoming second test.
Professor Beilock says those who sat quietly scored an average of 12% worse on the second test. But the students who had written about their fears improved their performance by an average of 5%. Next, the researchers used younger students in a biology class. They told them before final exams either to write about their feelings or to think about things unrelated to the test. Professor Beilock says highly anxious students who did the writing got an average grade of B+, compared to a B- for those who did not.
“What we showed is that for students who are highly test-anxious, who’d done our writing intervention (干预), all of a sudden there was no relationship between test anxiety and performance. They were performing just as well as their classmates who don’t normally get nervous in these tests.”
But what if students do not have a chance to write about their fears immediately before an exam? Professor Beilock says students can try it themselves at home or in the library and still improve their performance.
12. What may the students start worrying about before an exam?
A. Whether they can pass the exams.
B. What other students do during the test.
C. Whether they have remembered the materials.
D. What kind of problems they will meet on the test paper.
13. What is the solution developed by the two researchers?
A. Asking the students to think nothing of the test.
B Asking the students to focus on the test.
C. Asking the students to sit quietly before the test.
D. Asking the students to write about their worries before the test.
14. According to Professor Beilock, those who thought about things unrelated to the test_____.
A. became less nervous before the test.
B. were better at controlling their feelings.
C. did worse than those who wrote about their feelings.
D. did better than those who took two tests.
15. What can be learned from the last paragraph?
A. Writing about worries before an exam can work a bit.
B. Studying in the library can improve students’ performance.
C. Students can only write about worries right before an exam.
D. It doesn’t matter where to write about worries before an exam.
A 13. D 14. C 15. D

(can’t wait to) (汉译英)
________________________________________________________________
I can’t wait to describe to you what senior high school life is like.
I can’t wait to describe to you;表示“高中生活是什么样子”应为宾语从句作describe的宾语,表示“高中生活”应为senior high school life,表示“某物是什么样子”应为sth. be like,所以宾语从句中缺少宾语,应使用连接代词what引导,从句应使用一般现在时,且句子主语是第三人称单数,be动词应为is,所以宾语从句译为what senior high school life is like。 I can’t wait to describe to you what senior high school life is like.
(take advantage of) (汉译英)
________________________________________________________________
You should take advantage of every learning opportunity.
You should take advantage of every learning opportunity.。
48. Study without thinking leads to confusion; thinking without study ends in puzzlement.
________________________________________________________________
分号前的句子中:主语是Study“学习”;介词without意为“不”;without的宾语为thinking“思考”;谓语是leads to“导致”,其中to为介词;to的宾语是confusion“困惑”。分号后的句子中:主语是thinking“思考”;介词without意为“不”;without的宾语为study“学习”;谓语是ends in“以……为结果”;宾语为puzzlement“困惑”。本句是一句谚语,故本句可译为:学而不思则罔,思而不学则殆。
49. This is all quite new and different from my life at junior high school.
________________________________________________________________
This is all quite new可译为“这一切都是很新的”;形容词different与new并列作表语,be different from表示“不同于”,固定短语junior high school表示“初中”,故different from my life at junior high school译为“与我初中生活不同”。
50. Whatever happens, we will work together and rise to this challenge.
________________________________________________________________

A. The writer always thought Southside High School was the best.
B. The writer’s parents persuaded her into attending Southside High School.
C. The writer has met many challenges since she attended high school.
D. Life has become easier since the writer came to Southside High School.
5. How did the writer feel when she walked into her junior year?
A. Excited. B. Worried.
C Curious.
A. Difficulty. B. Value. C. fun. D. Trouble.
D
B. Asking the students to focus on the test.
C. Asking the students to sit quietly before the test.
D. Asking the students to write about their worries before the test.
14. According to Professor Beilock, those who thought about things unrelated to the test_____.
A became less nervous before the test.
B. were better at controlling their feelings.
C. did worse than those who wrote about their feelings.
D. did better than those who took two tests.
15. What can be learned from the last paragraph?
A. Writing about worries before an exam can work a bit.
B. Studying in the library can improve students’ performance.
C. Students can only write about worries right before an exam.
D. It doesn’t matter where to write about worries before an exam.
