It’s impossible to attend every social event in the calendar, but sometimes it really annoys you when you have prior (先前的) engagements (约定) and you know you’re missing out on something great. But some people feel the opposite. Rather than feeling FOMO, they take joy in missing out. They don’t feel the need to attend everything, and instead find comfort in either sticking to their original plans or staying at home alone. In a blog post, Kristen Fuller said “JOMO” is basically the “emotionally intelligent antidote to “FOMO” and it is “about being present and being satisfied with where you are in life.” Some people are born with it, others learn to accept it. Here are the different ways JOMO can show itself: 1. Living in the moment If you constantly worry about missing out on something, you cannot enjoy yourself wherever you are. This isn’t a healthy way to live your life, and Fuller wrote that you shouldn’t compare yourself to other people’s lives or experiences. “JOMO allows us to be who we are in the present moment, which is the secret to finding happiness,” she said. “When you free up that competitive and anxious space in your brain, you have so much more time, energy and emotion to realize your true priorities (首要事情).” 2. Switching off In an article, writer Justin Bariso discovered JOMO after he published his first book. He found it hard to switch off, worrying that his editor (编辑) would contact him for rewrites, or he would miss an important email. It wasn’t until he was abroad with his family and his daughter asked him to play that be thought: “What am I doing?” “Did I really want to go to Starbucks to sit in front of my computer, responding to emails from people I barely know, when instead I could be spending time with my family on a beautiful beach?” he wrote. 3. Enjoying your own company Some people are simply born with the ability to switch off, and not worry about what they could be missing out on. For them, being alone is important, and it doesn’t matter if they’re missing out on the party of the year. Others don’t necessarily need the space on a biological level, but they don’t feel the need to compare their lives to others. These are the people who aren’t involved in social media, and find joy in what they have, rather than focusing on what they don’t. 1.Which of the following proves that you feel JOMO? A.You spare a day for yourself every week to do some reading and writing. B.You constantly check your emails to make sure you keep up with your work. C.You cancel your original appointment and attend a party later. D.You always work hard in order to create a better future for your family. 2.What does the underlined word “antidote” mean in the article? A.A requirement to improve the situation. B.A way to take away the bad effects of something. C.An experiment to test the effect of something. D.A method to keep a balance between two things. 3.What is the cause of FOMO? A.Some people were born with big competitive space in their brains. B.People are not able to switch off the electronic equipment they use. C.People tend to focus on what others have instead of what they own. D.Some people spend too much time making friends on social media. 4.Which of the following may the writer disagree with? A.FOMO may cause health problems in one way or another. B.The more activities we participate in, the less anxious we will be. C.We can learn to get JOMO if we are not born with it. D.We should cut down unnecessary socializing (社交) and live our own life. 5.Which is the proper title of this article? A.Differences between FOMO and JOMO B.Your Choice: FOMO or JOMO C.JOMO: A Way to Deal with Fear D.JOMO: Find Happiness in Not Being Involved 【答案】1.A 2.B 3.C 4.B 5.D 【导语】本文讲述了FOMO和JOMO的概念及其不同的表现形式。 1.推理判断题。根据“Rather than feeling FOMO, they take joy in missing out. They don’t feel the need to attend everything, and instead find comfort in either sticking to their original plans or staying at home alone.”可知,具有JOMO的人不觉得有必要参加所有活动,而是享受独处的快乐。选项A描述了每周腾出时间独处的情形,符合题意,故选A。 2.词义猜测题。根据上下文“‘JOMO’ is basically the “emotionally intelligent antidote to ‘FOMO’”可推知,JOMO是解决FOMO的一种方法或缓解策略。选项B“消除不良影响的方法”符合题意,故选B。 3.推理判断题。根据“you shouldn’t compare yourself to other people’s lives or experiences.”和“For them, being alone is important, and it doesn’t matter if they’re missing out on the party of the year.” B A quasar (类星体) is an extremely bright object with a super-massive (超大质量的) black hole. About a million quasars have been known to humans. Quasar J0529-4351 is one of them, with 12 billion light years from the earth. We have been able to see Quasar J0529-4351 since 1980. But it was so bright that people mistook it for a foreground star (前景恒星). In 2023, scientists finally identified (确认) it as a quasar as well as the brightest object in the universe (宇宙), 500 trillion (万亿) times brighter than the sun. In 2024, a study on the quasar came out in Nature Astronomy (《自然·天文学》). It was done by Australian scientist Christian Wolf and his team. According to the recent study, Quasar J0529-4351 has a huge “stomach”. Like other quasars, it keeps taking in gas and dust in the space. In fact, it has the largest accretion disk (吸积盘) in the universe. It “eats” about as much as the sun’s mass (质量) every day, which makes it grow very fast. And we shouldn’t be surprised at how bright it is, because the brightness has much to do with how much it “eats”. However, Quasar J0529-4351 is not the largest object. TON 618, found in 1957, is one of the largest black holes. It can hold 66 billion stars the size of the sun inside, while Quasar J0529-4351 is about 19 billion times larger than the sun. Scientist have already learned that a black hole is formed when a star collapses (坍塌) on itself. And it grows by taking in other objects, including other black holes. But they still don’t know how super-massive black holes come into being. Scientists hope that studying quasars like this one will help them understand more about super-massive black holes. They also believe that there are probably more unusual quasars out there, waiting to be discovered. 1.When did scientists identify Quasar J0529-4351? A.In 1957. B.In 1980. C.In 2023. D.In 2024. 2.What does the underlined word “It” in Paragraph 2 refer to? A.Quasar J0529-4351. B.The foreground star. C.The study. D.Nature Astronomy. 3.Which of the following is TRUE about Quasar J0529-4351? A.It is 12 billion light years from the sun. B.It is 500 trillion times brighter than the sun. C.It can hold 66 billion stars the size of the sun. D.It is about 19 billion times larger than TON 618. 4.What does the last paragraph mainly tell us? A.When a star collapses. B.How a black hole grows. C.Why scientists study quasars. D.What will be discovered next. 5.Which could be the best title for the text? A.A Newly Seen Quasar B.Secrets of the Universe C.Super-massive Black Holes D.Brightest Quasar Ever Seen 【答案】1.C 2.C 3.B 4.C 5.D 【导语】本文简要介绍了类星体J0529-4351,它是宇宙中的一个极亮天体,拥有超大质量黑洞。科学家们经过研究确认其为宇宙中最亮的天体,并发现其拥有巨大的吸积盘,每天吞噬大量物质而快速增长。同时,科学家们还在探索超大质量黑洞的形成和特性,并期待发现更多不寻常的类星体。 1.细节理解题。根据“In 2023, scientists finally identified (确认) it as a quasar as well as the brightest object in the universe (宇宙), 500 trillion (万亿) times brighter than the sun.”可知,类星体J0529-4351是在2023年被科学家确认的。故选C。 2.代词指代题。根据“In 2024, a study on the quasar came out in Nature Astronomy (《自然·天文学》). It was done by Australian scientist Christian Wolf and his team.”可知,2024年,一项关于类星体的研究发表在《自然·天文学》上。这是由澳大利亚科学家克里斯蒂安·沃尔夫和他的团队完成的。it指代前面提到的这项关于类星体的研究。故选C。 3.细节理解题。根据“In 2023, scientists finally identified (确认) it as a quasar as well as the brightest object in the universe (宇宙), 500 trillion (万亿) times brighter than the sun.”可知,类星体J0529-4351是宇宙中最亮的物体,比太阳亮500万亿倍。故选B。 4.段落大意题。根据“Scientists hope that studying quasars like this one will help them understand more about super-massive black holes.”可知,科学家们希望研究像这样的类星体将有助于他们更多地了解超大质量黑洞。因此最后一段主要解释了科学家为什么要研究类星体。故选C。 5.最佳标题题。根据“In 2023, scientists finally identified (确认) it as a quasar as well as the brightest object in the universe (宇宙), 500 trillion (万亿) times brighter than the sun.”可知,本文介绍了宇宙中最亮的物体——类星体J0529-4351,因此选项D“有史以来最明亮的类星体” 适合作为本文的标题。故选D。 C Baidu’s robotaxi (萝卜快跑) is experiencing an order increase in Wuhan, Hubei Province, which has been drawing public attention and leading to heated discussions. Robotaxis are driverless taxis, which makes travel easier and more comfortable. People can book robotaxis at any time through the Baidu apps. Taking a robotaxi is cheaper than a traditional one. The vehicle is clean and smart, allowing passengers to choose their preferred music freely. “With no driver in the car, I can avoid communicating with others, making it easier to rest,” a local rider in Wuhan told the Global Times. A report from Baidu showed that there are 300 driverless taxis in Wuhan. In the first three months of 2024, orders for driverless taxis in Wuhan reached half of all ride-hailing (打车) services. It increased to 70 percent in April, with expectations of keeping rapid growth ahead. In fact, the service has been introduced to many cities in China. As for now, Baidu has started tests the service in 11 cities, including Beijing, Wuhan, Chongqing, Shenzhen and Shanghai. However, not everyone prefers the new way of ride-hailing. Robotaxis also have some drawbacks. “The waiting time is long, taking 8-10 minutes from order to arrival, and the driving speed is slow, not a good choice for passengers in a hurry,” one rider complained. What’s more, the rising need for lower-price robotaxi worries taxi drivers. Driverless technology has gradually entered our daily life, and it will change the world. All we need to do is look at it correctly, think calmly, and actively accept the arrival of each new technological change. 1.How does the author introduce the topic in paragraph 1? A.By listing numbers. B.By presenting facts. C.By starting a discussion. D.By sharing an experience. 2.What does the underlined word “drawbacks” probably mean in Paragraph 3? A.缺点 B.特色 C.愿景 D.失误 3.Why are taxi drivers worried about the rise of robotaxis? A.Because robotaxis are more comfortable. B.Because robotaxis are cheaper. C.Because robotaxis are faster. D.Because robotaxis are smarter. 4.What can be inferred from the text? A.Robotaxis have become the main way of ride-hailing in China. B.Price is no longer a problem for passengers now. C.Passengers in a hurry may prefer traditional taxis. D.Robotaxis beat traditional taxis in all ways. 5.What is the author’s attitude towards the growth of Baidu’s robotaxi business? A.Doubtful. B.Unclear. C.Worried. D.Supportive. 【答案】1.B 2.A 3.B 4.C 5.D 【导语】本文主要介绍了百度自动驾驶出租车。 1.细节理解题。根据“Baidu’s robotaxi (萝卜快跑) is experiencing an order increase in Wuhan, Hubei Province, which has been drawing public attention and leading to heated discussions.”可知,作者是通过陈述事实来介绍这个话题的。故选B。 2.词义猜测题。根据“The waiting time is long, taking 8-10 minutes from order to arrival, and the driving speed is slow, not a good choice for passengers in a hurry,”可知,本段在讲述百度自动驾驶出租车的缺点。因此drawbacks是“缺点”的意思。故选A。 3.细节理解题。根据“What’s more, the rising need for lower-price robotaxi worries taxi drivers.”可知,是因为robotaxi更便宜。故选B。 4.推理判断题。根据“The waiting time is long, taking 8-10 minutes from order to arrival, and the driving speed is slow, not a good choice for passengers in a hurry,”可推知,赶时间的乘客可能更喜欢传统的出租车。故选C。 5.推理判断题。根据“Driverless technology has gradually entered our daily life, and it will change the world. All we need to do is look at it correctly, think calmly, and actively accept the arrival of each new technological change.”可推知,作者是支持的态度。故选D。 D With the Internet, our friends are nearby even when they aren’t. Unluckily, while the Internet allows us to stay close to our friends, it can also make us more helpless to our enemies. Bullying (霸凌) has always been a problem in schools. Big kids pick on smaller kids; rich kids make fun of poor kids. But nowadays kids are being bullied even at home, where they should be safe. Cyberbullying, which means bullying people over the Internet is a serious and growing problem. And since the Internet is always on and always available, victims (受害者) of cyberbullying can feel like nowhere is safe. Cyberbullying often happens on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. Bullies post cruel opinions on their victim’s pages or send them mocking (嘲讽的) or threatening (威胁的) messages. False news spread quickly online, so it can be hard for victims to argue for themselves. Sometimes other people join in on the attacks. People seem to be more willing to join in attacks online than they would be in person. In the end, victims can feel as if their whole class or school has turned against them. It’s a very lonely and frightening feeling. Studies show that over half of US school kids have experienced bullying online. Just one in ten of them will tell his or her parents about it. And less than twenty percent of these incidents will be reported to the police. Cyberbullying is very dangerous. Many students even killed themselves because of it. It is also largely invisible—hard to identify or find out, and even harder to stop. Many countries have passed laws against cyberbullying. However, we are not sure if these social rules will really stop this crime (犯罪) from happening again. 1.Which statement below best expresses the main idea? A.Cyberbullying is the leading crime in the US. B.There are many kinds of cyberbullying. C.Cyberbullying is a new form of crime. D.The idea of cyberbullying is being changed. 2.Which of the following can we infer from the fourth paragraph? A.Cyberbullying doesn’t only take place on the Internet. B.Policemen are working hard to stop cyberbullying. C.There are a lot of victims that we don’t know about. D.Cyberbullying is a problem unable to be seen. 3.Which of the following examples does not belong to cyberbullying? A.Posting hurtful comments on someone’s social media posts. B.Sharing embarrassing photos of a classmate on WeChat. C.Spreading false information about a classmate online. D.Making fun of someone’s appearance in person at school. 4.What might the passage talk about next? A.Explaining what cyberbullying is. B.Highlighting how cyberbullying hurts the victims. C.Showing the reasons behind cyberbullying. D.Calling on readers to create a safer online environment. 【答案】1.C 2.C 3.D 4.D 【导语】本文主要讲述了网络霸凌这一新型犯罪形式及其危害。 1.主旨大意题。根据“Cyberbullying, which means bullying people over the Internet is a serious and growing problem”和“However, we are not sure if these social rules will really stop this crime (犯罪) from happening again.”可知,本文主要讲述了网络霸凌这一新型犯罪形式。故选C。 2.推理判断题。根据“Studies show that over half of US school kids have experienced bullying online. Just one in ten of them will tell his or her parents about it. And less than twenty percent of these incidents will be reported to the police.”可知,研究表明,超过一半的美国学生经历过网络霸凌。只有十分之一的人会把这件事告诉父母。这些事件中只有不到20%会报告给警方,故可推测出,有很多遭受网络霸凌的受害者我们并不知晓。故选C。 3.推理判断题。根据“Cyberbullying, which means bullying people over the Internet is a serious and growing problem”可知,网络霸凌,即在互联网上霸凌他人,选项D“在学校里亲自取笑别人的外表。”属于霸凌行为,但是不是网络霸凌。故选D。 4.推理判断题。通读全文和根据“However, we are not sure if these social rules will really stop this crime (犯罪) from happening again.”可知,文章前面已经介绍了网络霸凌是什么、其危害等内容,最后提到各国虽有法律但不确定能否制止这种犯罪,那么接下来很可能会呼吁读者一起营造一个更安全的网络环境来对抗网络霸凌,选项D“呼吁读者创造一个更安全的网络环境。”符合。故选D。 三、阅读还原 A (2024·黑龙江绥化·中考真题)根据短文内容,从下列选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项多余。 Pan Yuzhen, 77, is an inheritor (继承人) of the intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) of Miao embroidery (刺绣) in Southwest China’s Guizhou Province. Pan said. “When the foreigners saw these products 4 Miao embroidery is the pride of our Chinese people.” A.Due to the family’s heavy financial burden (经济负担). B.At that time, Pan had a stall (摊位) in Panjiayuan Antique (古玩) Market. C.who were interested in Miao embroidery. D.She has been famous for these experiences. E.Pan began to sell Miao embroidery products around the country. F.they rushed to take photos with the Chinese embroiderer. Some may say no. 1 Faith Wanjiku, graduating (毕业) from the Technical University of Kenya, went to the Confucius Institute (孔子学院) in Kenyatta University last year. 47 And Wanjiku isn’t alone. The number of people taking the HSK (汉语水平考试) reached 6.8 million in 2018, up 4.6 percent from a year earlier. 2 Middle school students in Russia can take Chinese as an elective (选修的) language test. A.Differences between FOMO and JOMO B.Your Choice: FOMO or JOMO C.JOMO: A Way to Deal with Fear D.JOMO: Find Happiness in Not Being Involved B A quasar (类星体) is an extremely bright object with a super-massive (超大质量的) black hole. A.A Newly Seen Quasar B.Secrets of the Universe C.Super-massive Black Holes D.Brightest Quasar Ever Seen C Baidu’s robotaxi (萝卜快跑) is experiencing an order increase in Wuhan, Hubei Province, which has been drawing public attention and leading to heated discussions. D.Because robotaxis are smarter. 4.What can be inferred from the text? A.Robotaxis have become the main way of ride-hailing in China. B.Price is no longer a problem for passengers now. C.Passengers in a hurry may prefer traditional taxis. D.Robotaxis beat traditional taxis in all ways. 5.What is the author’s attitude towards the growth of Baidu’s robotaxi business? A.Doubtful. B.Unclear. C.Worried. D.Supportive. D With the Internet, our friends are nearby even when they aren’t. 三、阅读还原 A (2024·黑龙江绥化·中考真题)根据短文内容,从下列选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项多余。 Pan Yuzhen, 77, is an inheritor (继承人) of the intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) of Miao embroidery (刺绣) in Southwest China’s Guizhou Province.
