One of Latin America’s most famous living writers, Isabel Allende primarily writes in Spanish. But her work has been translated into English and adapted for the big screen, too, so it’s accessible to readers and viewers beyond her homeland. Isabel Allende was born in 1942 in Peru to Chilean parents. Her parents separated when she was very young, and she spent a few years of her childhood in Chile with her mother, two siblings and grandfather. When Allende was 11, her mother remarried and Allende spent the rest of her childhood in Bolivia and Lebanon. Before her first book was published, Allende worked as a journalist. She co-founded the first feminist magazine, Paula, in Chile, in 1967, worked in television, wrote and produced a play, and wrote children’s stories and magazines. In 1973, Allende and her family moved to Venezuela, where they lived for the next 13 years. In 1981, the foundations of her first novel, The House of the Spirits, were laid: after learning that her 99-year-old grandfather was dying, Allende wrote a letter to him. This eventually became The House of the Spirits, a magical-realist family long story. Allende had a long, productive and celebrated writing career. Over four decades she has published 24 books, which have been translated into more than 40 languages and sold more than 75 million copies, making her one of the best-selling authors in the world. She is a fairly rare author who has achieved widespread popularity among general readers and acclaim among literary critics. She herself and her books have been the subject of many academic literary studies, and she’s an essential part of the Latin American Spanish literary canon(经典). 4. What language does Allende mostly write in? A. Latin. B. Spanish. C. English. D. French. 5. What is paragraph 3 mainly about? A. Allende’s early life. B. Allende’s homeland. C. Allende’s education. D. Allende’s marriage. 6. Who is directly related with Allende’s first novel? A. Her mother. B. Her father. C. Her child. D. Her grandfather. 7. What does the underlined word “acclaim” in the last paragraph mean? A. Worry. B. Doubt. C. Praise. D. Comfort. B 5. A 6. D 7. 根据第二段“One of Latin America’s most famous living writers, Isabel Allende primarily writes in Spanish. (拉丁美洲最著名的在世作家之一,伊莎贝尔·阿连德主要用西班牙语写作。)”可知,伊莎贝尔主要用西班牙语写作。故选B。 【5题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第三段中“Isabel Allende was born in 1942 in Peru to Chilean parents. Her parents separated when she was very young, and she spent a few years of her childhood in Chile with her mother, two siblings and grandfather. When Allende was 11, her mother remarried and Allende spent the rest of her childhood in Bolivia and Lebanon.(伊莎贝尔·阿连德1942年出生于秘鲁,父母是智利人。她的父母在她很小的时候就分居了,她小时候和母亲、两个兄弟姐妹和祖父在智利度过了几年。当阿连德11岁时,她的母亲再婚,阿连德在玻利维亚和黎巴嫩度过了她的童年。)”可知,本段主要讲述了阿连德的早期生活。故选A。 根据第五段“In 1981, the foundations of her first novel, The House of the Spirits, were laid: after learning that her 99-year-old grandfather was dying, Allende wrote a letter to him. This eventually became The House of the Spirits, a magical-realist family long story.(1981年,阿连德的第一部小说《幽灵之家》奠定了基础:在得知她99岁的祖父病逝后,阿连德给他写了一封信。这最终成为了《幽灵之家》,一部魔幻现实主义的长篇家庭故事。)”可知,The House of the Spirits原本是阿连德写给她外祖父的一封信。 故划线词与C选项“Praise(赞扬)”为同义词。故选C。 C In the far, far future, bicycles and perhaps skates may be run by jet power, and a new thing to ride may be a small flying saucer (飞碟). Imagine a race between them! There may be telepathy helmets (心灵感应头盔) that send thought waves from your brain to that of your friend miles away. You just think a thought and your friend knows it! You can have secrets with each other that nobody else can turn in on! What about the food of the future? Scientists think that much of it will be artificial—made in factories from such surprising things as coal, limestone, air and water. The artificial food will be healthful because all the things that you need to live a long and healthy life will be put into it. The future hospitals will probably have “body banks” that can give you almost any new part you need to keep on living. People of the future may live to be a lot older than 100 years. What about highways of the future? Well, a very small child probably will be able to drive a car. Electric signals will hold each car on the right road to get wherever the “driver” wants to go. And it probably will be impossible for cars to crash together. Controls that won’t even have to be touched will make all speeding cars miss each other or will put on the brakes. Driving cars will be as safe as being at home. But maybe the most wonderful surprise in the future will be weather control. Cities may have giant plastic domes (圆顶罩) over them to keep out snow, rain, or storms. When you plan a picnic in a park, you won’t have to worry about rain. It will rain only when the “weatherman” thinks it is necessary to fresh the air inside the city. All other days will be fair and warm. The future should be a wonderful time in which to live and the time we are living in now is also a wonderful future to the people who lived 100 years ago. 8. How will you probably talk with each other in the future according to paragraph 2? A. With a safety helmet. B. By thought waves. C. Through secret words. D. On a special phone. 9. What can we say about the artificial food? A. It only consists of water. B. It is difficult to digest. C. It is nutritious enough. D. It can keep us from aging. 10. What can we expect of the future life? A. Road safety will be hugely raised. B. People will not see a doctor any more. C. Driving on the highways will be avoided. D. No storms will happen in the neighborhood. 11. Where is this text most likely from? A. A health report. B. A magazine. C. A guidebook. D. An advertisement. B 9. C 10. A 11. 根据第二段的“There may be telepathy helmets (心灵感应头盔) that send thought waves from your brain to that of your friend miles away. You just think a thought and your friend knows it!(可能有一种心灵感应头盔,可以将你大脑中的思想波发送到几英里外的朋友的大脑中。你只要想一个想法,你的朋友就会知道!)”可知,你们将来可能会通过思想波来交谈,故选B。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段的“The artificial food will be healthful because all the things that you need to live a long and healthy life will be put into it.(人工食品将是健康的,因为所有你需要的东西,长寿和健康的生活都将被放入其中)”可知,人工食品很有营养。 根据倒数第三段的“And it probably will be impossible for cars to crash together. Controls that won’t even have to be touched will make all speeding cars miss each other or will put on the brakes. Driving cars will be as safe as being at home.(而且汽车可能不可能相撞。甚至不需要触碰的控制系统会让所有超速行驶的汽车互相错过或者踩刹车。开车就像在家里一样安全)”可知,未来的生活中道路安全将大大提高。故选A。 通读全文,尤其是最后一段的“The future should be a wonderful time in which to live and the time we are living in now is also a wonderful future to the people who lived 100 years ago.(未来应该是一个美好的生活时代,我们现在生活的时代也是生活在100年前的人们的美好未来)”可知,本文是对未来生活的展望,很可能来自于杂志。A.A health report健康报告;B.A magazine杂志;C.A guidebook旅行指南;D.An advertisement广告,故选B。 D Looking for a fun Earth Day activity? You may want to try plogging, or picking up litter while jogging. Strange as it may sound, the new “sport" is becoming popular with runners worldwide? many of whom are posting photos of themselves and friends holding bags of trash on social media. Plogging is the idea of Erik Alstrom. In 2016, after moving to Stockholm in northern Sweden, Alstrom showed concern over the amount of trash on the road during his daily bike ride to work. Thus, he began plogging during his daily runs. Other joggers soon joined Alstrom, and the activity became so popular that official “plogging" events started all across Sweden. As plogging became popular on social media, the new “sport" began to spread beyond Sweden, first to other European countries and then worldwide. The official online “Plogga" group now includes members from over 40 countries, all the way from United States cities like Ohio to Thailand and Ecuador. Many school running clubs are also getting in on the action to encourage people, staging competitions that reward the runners with the heaviest trash bags. As it turns out, plogging is not only good for the environment but also a healthy way to exercise. According to Swedish fitness app Lifesun, an average person burns about 288 calories while plogging for half an hour. This is about 50 calories more than he/she would burn when just jogging. Additionally, the constant squatting(蹲) to pick up litter increases the plogger's flexibility, while lugging(费力地拖) around the increasingly heavy garbage bags helps strengthen his/her arm muscles. On this Earth Day, be sure to put on your running shoes, carry a trash bag or two, and go plogging. Or better still, start a plogging team at school, or around your neighborhood, and make every day Earth Day! 12. Why did Erik Alstrom decide to pick up litter while running? A. He wanted to clear out a path to ride his bike. B. He was concerned about the trash on the road. C. He was fond of exercising on his way to work. D. He dreamed to become popular across Sweden. 13. How do school running clubs support the new “sport”? A. They post photos of official events online. B. They explain what plogging means on stage. C. They compete with one another for members. D. They hold competitions to attract people to plog. 14. Why is Swedish fitness app Lifesun mentioned in paragraph 5? A. To show that plogging is of benefit to health. B. To say that plogging is environment-friendly. C. To offer the approaches to exercising properly. D. To tell joggers to carry heavy bags to work out. 15. What is the best title for the text? A. Plogging: A Strange But New “Sport" for Runners B. What We Should Do to Reduce the Amount of Litter C. Running Is Really Helpful to Environmental Protection D. Plogging: A Fun Activity for Earth Day and Every Day 【答案】12. B 13. D 14. A 15. D 【解析】 【分析】这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了“拾荒慢跑”这一“新”运动正在世界各地的跑步者中流行起来,介绍了这一运动的发起者和在世界范围内的流行情况。事实证明,拾荒慢跑不仅对环境有好处,而且是一种健康的锻炼方式。 【12题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中In 2016, after moving to Stockholm in northern Sweden, Alstrom showed concern over the amount of trash on the road during his daily bike ride to work. (2016年,搬到瑞典北部的斯德哥尔摩后,Alstrom对每天骑自行车上班路上的垃圾数量表示了担忧)可知Alstrom决定在跑步时捡垃圾是因为他担心这些路上的垃圾。故选B。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中Many school running clubs are also getting in on the action to encourage people, staging competitions that reward the runners with the heaviest trash bags. (许多学校的跑步俱乐部也加入到鼓励人们的行动中来,举办比赛奖励垃圾袋最重的跑步者)可知学校跑步俱乐部通过举办比赛来吸引人们拾荒慢跑,以此来支持这项新的“运动”。故选D。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段中According to Swedish fitness app Lifesun, an average person burns about 288 calories while plogging for half an hour. This is about 50 calories more than he/she would burn when just jogging. (瑞典健身应用Lifesun的数据显示,平均每个人在拾荒慢跑半小时的过程中会消耗288卡路里的热量。这比他/她慢跑时多燃烧50卡路里)可知第5段提到瑞典健身应用Lifesun是为了表明拾荒慢跑对健康有益。故选A。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段第一句Looking for a fun Earth Day activity? You may want to try plogging, or picking up litter while jogging. Ways to Save Money on Healthy Food Contrary to what you may have heard, eating healthy doesn’t have to be really expensive. B If you’re a keen reader, you have probably heard of Chilean American author Isabel Allende and may have read one of her 20+ books of fiction and non-fiction. A. Worry. B. Doubt. C. Praise. D. Comfort. C In the far, far future, bicycles and perhaps skates may be run by jet power, and a new thing to ride may be a small flying saucer (飞碟). D Looking for a fun Earth Day activity? B They explain what plogging means on stage. C. They compete with one another for members. D. They hold competitions to attract people to plog. 14 Why is Swedish fitness app Lifesun mentioned in paragraph 5? A. To show that plogging is of benefit to health. B.
