She made an appearance in “Austin Power 3” this year and she is filming a teenage light play that will come out in March 2003. In this movie, she has a starring role.

The history of life on earth has been a history of interaction between living things and their surroundings. To a large extent (程度), the physical form and the habits of the earth’s vegetation and its animal life have been shaped by the environment. Considering the whole span of earthly time, the opposite effect, in which life actually modifies its surroundings, has been relatively slight (轻微的). Only in the present century has one species—man got significant power to change the nature of his world.
During the past quarter century this power has not only become increasingly great but it has changed in character. The most alarming of all man’s assaults (侵犯) upon the environment is the contamination (污染) of air, earth, rivers, and sea with dangerous and even deadly materials. This pollution is for the most part irrecoverable. In this now universal contamination of the environment, chemicals are the wicked partners of radiation (辐射) in changing the very nature of the world, the very nature of its life.
It took hundreds of millions of years to produce the life that now lives on the earth. Given time not in years but in millennia (千年), life adjusted and a balance has been reached. But in the modern world there is no time.
I don’t mean that chemical insecticides (杀虫剂) must never be used. However, we have to admit that we have put poisonous and biologically harmful chemicals indiscriminately (恣意地) into the hands of persons largely or wholly ignorant of their possible harm. We have forced enormous numbers of people to contact these poisons, without their permission and often without their knowledge. We admit, furthermore, that we have allowed these chemicals to be used with little or no advance investigation of their effect on soil, water, wildlife, and man himself. Future generations are unlikely to forgive our lack of concern for the integrity (完好无损) of the natural world that supports all life.
28. What does the underlined word “modified” in the first paragraph mean?
A. destroy B. change C. explore D. maintain
29. Which of the following does the least harm to the environment?
A. chemicals B. radiation C. insecticides D. vegetation
30. According to the text, what can we learn about the environment?
A. Chemicals must not be used for the sake of the environment.
B. The environment is greatly affected by vegetation and animals.
C. The future generations are likely to lack concern for the environment.
D. The pollution of the environment is largely due to irresponsible humans.
31. What will the following paragraph probably talk about?
A. What humans should do with chemicals for future generations.
B. How the environment affects the living things on the earth.
C. What kind of chemicals are less harmful to the environment.
D. How we humans make the best of chemicals to save the earth.
【答案】28. B 29. D 30. D 31. A

【28题详解】
词义猜测题。根据第一段中“To a large extent(程度), the physical form and the habits of the earth’s vegetation and its animal life have been shaped by the environment. (在很大程度上,地球上植物和动物的身体形态和习性是由环境塑造的。)”可知,在很大程度上,地球植被和动物生命的身体形态和习性都受到环境的塑造,生命改变环境造成的影响是微小的。故划线词与B选项“change(改变)”为同义词。故选B。
【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中“The most alarming of all man’s assaults(侵犯)upon the environment is the contamination(污染)of air, earth, rivers, and sea with dangerous and even deadly materials. (在人类对环境的所有破坏中,最令人担忧的是空气、土壤、河流和海洋受到危险甚至致命物质的污染。)”以及本段中“This pollution is for the most part irrecoverable. In this now universal contamination of the environment, chemicals are the wicked partners of radiation(辐射)in changing the very nature of the world, the very nature of its life.(这种污染在很大程度上是无法恢复的。在现在这种普遍的环境污染中,化学物质是辐射的邪恶伙伴,它改变了世界的本质,改变了生命的本质。)”以及最后一段中“However, we have to admit that we have put poisonous and biologically harmful chemicals indiscriminately(恣意地)into the hands of persons largely or wholly ignorant of their possible harm.(然而,我们必须承认,我们毫不顾忌地将有毒和对生物有害的化学物质放在了很大程度上或完全不了解它们可能带来的危害的人们手中。)”可知,化学物质,辐射以及杀虫剂都给环境带来了极大的害处和影响,因此推断D选项“vegetation(植被)”对环境造成的是最小的伤害。故选D。
【30题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“We admit, furthermore, that we have allowed these chemicals to be used with little or no advance investigation of their effect on soil, water, wildlife, and man himself. Future generations are unlikely to forgive our lack of concern for the integrity(完好无损)of the natural world that supports all life.(此外,我们承认,我们允许使用这些化学品,很少或根本没有事先调查它们对土壤、水、野生动物和人类本身的影响。我们对维持所有生命的自然世界的完整性缺乏关心,我们的后代是不可能原谅我们的。)”可知,由于人类很少或者根本没有事先调查化学品对环境的影响,以及缺乏对自然世界的关心因此才导致环境污染,即环境的污染主要是由于不负责任的人类造成的。故选D。
【31题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Future generations are unlikely to forgive our lack of concern for the integrity(完好无损)of the natural world that supports all life.(我们对维持所有生命的自然世界的完整性缺乏关心,我们的后代是不可能原谅我们的。)”可知,此处指出我们对生态环境造成的破坏,对自然完整性缺乏关心,我们的后代是不能原谅我们的,因此后文应该阐述为了子孙后代,人类应该如何处理化学品。A选项“What humans should do with chemicals for future generations.(为了子孙后代,人类应该如何处理化学品。)”符合题意。故选A。

China’s lunar spacesuit made its first public appearance on Saturday at a forum in Chongqing. The suit features a powerful yet elegant appearance, and embodies the resilience and pioneering spirit of the Chinese people, according to media reports. The debut (首秀) marks a significant milestone in the country’s lunar exploration efforts and reflects the advancement of China’ s spacesuit technology.
The red decorative bands on the arms and legs emphasize its sleek and powerful design, with the arm bands designed to look like flowing “Feitian” ribbons — meaning flying deity(神灵) in traditional Chinese culture — symbolizing grace and elegance, while the leg bands are shaped like the exhaust flames of a rocket, conveying the dynamic energy of space exploration. Meanwhile, the suit draws inspiration from traditional Chinese armor(盔甲), embodying resilience, strength, and dignity, reflecting the courage and pioneering spirit of the Chinese people.
Spacesuits are essential for spaceflight, providing life support and operational assistance during launches, re-entry, and extravehicular activities. Research and development (R&D) of spacesuits involves a wide range of scientific disciplines and complex technologies, and only a few countries in the world possess the capability of independently designing and manufacturing spacesuits. Since 2020, the R&D of the lunar spacesuit has centered on protection function in complex environments and enhancing astronaut mobility. The design is unique in its mini-sized parts, with high safety standards.
“The main differences between lunar suits and regular spacesuits lie in their design and functionality”, Kang Guohua, a senior member of the Chinese Society of Astronautics and a professor of Aerospace Engineering at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, told the Global Times on Saturday. While both are designed for exposure to the tough conditions of space, including vacuum, microgravity, radiation, and extreme temperatures, the specific working environments on the moon have created distinct requirements for lunar spacesuits.
“China’s lunar space program is progressing step by step based on its own plans. The debut indicates that the day when Chinese people set foot on the moon may not be far off,” Kang said.
32. What do the red decorative bands on the legs of the lunar spacesuits symbolize?
A. Grace and elegance. B. The energy of space exploration.
C. Resilience and strength. D. Courage and pioneering spirit.
33. According to the text, what is the focus of China’s lunar spacesuit design?
A. Protecting astronauts and improving flexibility.
B. Offering protection against extreme environment.
C. Improving the quality and style of spacesuit.
D. Producing mini-sized parts for safety reasons.
34. Why are lunar suits different from regular spacesuits?
A. Because they will be exposed to more radiation.
B. Because they need more functions and equipment.
C. Because they should adapt to tough conditions of space.
D. Because they have to meet different requirements.
35. What would be the best title for this text?
A. China’s Manned Lunar Landing: A Milestone
B. The Development of China’s Spacesuit Technology
C. The Debut of China’s Lunar Spacesuit in Chongqing
D. The Role of Spacesuits in Modern Space Exploration
【答案】32. B 33. A 34. D 35. C

One morning, my family and I woke up and went to eat breakfast——until we heard barking and scratching at the door. When my mom opened the door, we saw a puppy(小狗). We looked around to see if we saw its owner, but there was no one. We took it inside and fed it.
Regardless of how badly I wanted to keep the puppy, we decided to look for the owner. We looked all day, but we failed. We talked about whether we should keep looking or if we should look the next day. We all agreed to look for its owner the next day.
So, the next day my family and I looked for the dog's owner. It was so hard looking for its owner. We were looking for flyers(传单)that involved the puppy, but no luck. We wouldn't have quit because it's a puppy.
“We won't stop looking,” my mom and dad said. We were going to take care of the puppy until we found its owner.
When we woke up in the morning, we went to a pet shop to buy the puppy some dog food. After that we went back home to feed the puppy the dog food that we had just bought. After we fed the puppy, we gave it a nice bath. It was so dirty that the fur was black and sticky, but after we gave it a bath, it turned white. And I noticed there was a collar (狗项圈)on him, which said “Coby”. After we gave him a bath, we went to look for the p uppy's owner, but my mom stayed at home, and it was only my dad and me this time.
We continued looking more and more until we found flyers. “We looked at it.”it said.

【答案】One possible version:
There was a phone number on the flyer. My dad called it and someone answered; it was a lady. My dad asked whether she was the one who put out the flyers. She said “Yes!” with excitement and told us Coby, who was very dear to her, had been gone days before. Then we told her that we had her puppy and we would take him to her. She told us her address at once; then we went to it.
We found the lady’s house, and then we knocked on the door. A lady opened the door, and when she saw the puppy, she screamed with joy. We handed her the puppy, feeling proud. She wanted to give us a reward for taking care of her puppy for her, but we said it was OK because we were really happy to help. So we went home tired but content, telling my mom the whole thing. Prices have been rising rapidly in cities across the world, driving the cost of living higher than ever before. But not everywhere has been impacted equally. For travelers, these places can offer the same big-city convenient facilities at a much lower cost of living.
Lisbon, Portugal
As the least-expensive city in Western Europe, according to the EIU rankings, Lisbon has been a hot spot for travelers in recent years. Mercedes Zach recommends exploring the bohemian(波西米亚式的) Bairro Alto neighbourhood to uncover street art, city views and sunset gatherings with locals. The Roman Theatre Museum gives a glimpse into the city’s Roman past, with preserved theatre ruins.
Toronto, Canada
Canadian cities to the north continue to remain lower in the cost of-living rankings. Of all the Canadian cities ranked, Toronto ranks the most affordable. Toronto resident Stephanie Ciccarelli recommends city sightseeing via boat cruise on Lake Ontario, or visiting the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Tokyo, Japan
Moving three down the index(指标 ) this year and ranking 60 overall, Tokyo continues to be Japan’s most expensive city yet is now more affordable than fellow Asian cities like Singapore and Hong Kong. Tokyo resident Masa Yamamoto encourages tourists to wander around the urban garden and public art displays at the newly developed Azabudai Hils neighbourhood for free. For a new perspective on the city, he recommends the contemporary art Mori Art Museum and its connected Tokyo City View, which offers a view of the city from 250 m above sea level for just2,000 yen.
