Could you imagine being in a car driven by a computer, not a human? Recently, China has made a big step toward self-driving technology.
Self-driving cars give us many benefits. They use computers to sense the things around them and make full use of space. This means fewer traffic jams and better parking of cars. For disabled or blind people self-driving cars can help them get to the destination more easily and safely.
According to US Centers for Disease control and Prevention each year, more than 1.35 million people are killed on roads around the world. “Self-driving cars could reduce road accidents by 90 percent and save governments a lot of money”, said the website TechDim. The main cause of car accidents is human error. By using computers, self-driving cars don’t make wrong decisions or lose focus like humans do.
However, self-driving cars aren’t perfect. If something unexpected on the road happens, self-driving cars can’t react as fast as a human driver could. Also, in a bad air condition like heavy snow, self-driving cars would have difficulty seeing the lines on the road. It might lead to a serious accident. Besides these, the car’s computer system could also be attacked by someone. When this happens, some people will break into the car’s computer system through the Internet and make your car disobey the traffic rules. What’s worse, they may make the car change its destination.
It’s clear that there is a lot of work to do to make self-driving cars a common and safe sight on our roads. And China is taking the lead in making this happen. In the near future, more and more self-driving cars will be seen in the streets of China.
8. Which is one of the benefits of self-driving cars?
A. They don’t need space to park.
B. They won’t lead to accidents like humans do.
C. They react faster than human drivers during heavy snow.
D. They provide a safe way for disabled people to reach the destination.
9. What is the main cause of car accidents according to paragraph 3?
A. Bad weather. B. Car trouble. C. Human error. D. Poor road conditions.
10. What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. What to do when there is bad weather. B. The advantage of having a human driver.
C. How to deal with the traffic accidents. D. The weakness of self-driving cars.
11. What’s the text mainly about?
A. The progress that China has made toward self-driving technology.
B. The advantages and disadvantages of self-driving cars.
C. The reasons why self-driving cars are not perfect.
D. The importance of self-driving technology.

Human-like skin grown in a lab has been successfully given to a burns patient. The artificial tissue (人造组织) was grown from the man’s own skin cells, which was described as one of the biggest breakthroughs in burns care.
The bioengineered skin aims to replace traditional skin transplants, in which burned, damaged skin is replaced with normal, healthy skin cut from another part of the patient’s body. This new method could help to better protect patients from deadly infections (感染), without the usual pain. The bioengineered skin is grown under lab conditions using a sample (样本) of cells taken from the patient. Once it has grown to a sheet of skin, it is stuck to the burnt tissue of the patient.
Patients with burns over most of their body had very little healthy skin to use for transplanting, which meant they had to stay in hospital for months and risked higher rates of infection while using the same donor site for transplanting over and over again. In comparison, the artificial skin takes four weeks to grow into sheets 100 times the size of the skin taken from the patient. This is the amount of time needed to prepare a burn for treatment.
Associate Professor Heather Cleland said the tissue had the ability to not only treat patients better, but also save those who would die.
Former patient Kate Sanderson, 49, who had burnt to 60 percent of her body in2011, said she was elated for the team for, with the new method, burns patients will suffer less and recover soon in the future. She said her recovery took a long time because doctors could only take limited amounts of skin for transplanting.
12. What is one of the advantages of the new method?
A. It’s really cheap. B. It’s unique in the world.
C. It causes little pain. D. It has no side effects.
13. What is Heather Cleland’s attitude towards the new method?
A. Negative. B. Positive. C. Doubtful. D. Unclear.
14. What does the underlined word “elated” in paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. Enough. B. Worried. C. Tired. D. Overjoyed.
15. Where is the text most likely from?
A. A medical magazine. B. A first-aid guide.
C A science fiction. D. A textbook.

One year ago, I joined a club. Every morning, there was a personal trainer who worked out. He did his routine with such a quiet determination that he made it all look very easy When I wanted to quit, I watched him push himself to his own limits, and I found myself motivated to work hard.
Several weeks ago, I was watching him do chin-ups (引体向上) easily. I asked him if I could try it. I had never tried before. He eagerly stepped aside and encouraged me to step up to the bar. I pulled myself up without thinking... Once... then twice. I had no strength left. I told him that was all I had, so he stepped up behind me and pushed me up for a third and a fourth pull. It felt so good and I smiled from ear to ear.
The next day when I was done with my workout, I asked him to spot me again. Again, I did two. Again, on Day three and so on. I thought it was pitiful that I could only do two, but he said he was impressed with my chin-ups, explaining that most people couldn’t do them at all. Then he told me that if I practised every day, I would be doing five or six in no time.
I just jumped in and gave it a try. A few months had passed since that memorable day in the club. I continued to work on my chin-ups, slowly but steadily. With each passing week, I could feel my strength increasing and my determination growing.
One day, as I approached the chin-up bar, my trainer noticed the determination in my eyes. He smiled and said, “You know, you made a big progress in a such short time. I think it’s time to set a new goal for yourself.” I asked, “What do you have in mind?” He replied, “How about aiming for ten consecutive chin-ups? I believe that you can achieve it with your insistence.

【答案】My Favorite Park
My favorite park is Central Park in New York City, located in the heart of Manhattan. It is the park’s beautiful scenery, wildlife, and rich history that make it a must-visit destination. If you’re in New York City, don’t miss out on a visit to Central Park.
第二节(满分25分)
【47题答案】
【答案】I was both excited and nervous about this new challenge. Ten chin-ups seemed like a significant leap from where I had started, but the belief my trainer had in me fueled my determination, I accepted the challenge and got to work. Every morning, I pushed myself harder than before. The numbers slowly climbed: three, four, five and then seven chin-ups. It was challenging, but I remembered the lesson that I had learned. The most difficult tasks can be achieved through consistent effort and belief in oneself.
Finally, one morning, it happened. I pulled myself up to the bar and completed ten consecutive chin-ups. I couldn’t contain my excitement and joy. I felt a profound sense of accomplishment. I achieved my goal through persistence. I had made it a reality. As I continue my fitness journey, I carry this lesson with me: No matter how daunting the obstacle may seem, the belief and persistence can help me overcome it. It’s not just about physical strength but also about mental fortitude and the power of setting and achieving goals.
