T: In the same way, let me add another bag to the two bags. How can we compare their price now?
(同样,我在这两个包旁边再加上一个包。那么现在我们如何来比较它们的价格呢?)
S: The green bag is ….
T: Well, many students have found that we should add ‘-est’ to the adjective and use ‘the’ before it when we compare three things.
(好,很多同学已经发现我们在表示三个事物的比较时,应该在形容词后面加上 ‘-est’并在其前使用定冠词the。)
T: So we can say ‘The green bag is the cheapest one of all the bags.’ (所以我们可以说绿色的包是所有包中最便宜的。)
T: But how can we talk about the purple one? Can we add ‘-est’ to ‘expensive’ too?
(但是我们如何来谈论紫色的包的价格呢?我们也能在expensive’后面加上 ‘-est’吗?)
Ss: No. We should ….
T: OK. We know that ‘cheap’ is a short adjective while ‘expensive’ is a long adjective.
(很好!我们知道cheap是一个短形容词,而expensive是一个长形容词。)
T: We add ‘-est’ to short adjectives to compare three or more people or things.
(我们在短形容词后面加上‘-est’来比较三个或三个以上的人或事物。)
T: Obviously, we can’t add ‘-est’ to the word ‘expensive’. We should use ‘most’ for long adjectives.
(显然,我们不能在expensive后加‘-est’。对于长形容词,我们应该在它的前面加上most。)
T: So, we should say like this: The purple bag is the most expensive one of all the bags.(紫色的包是所有包中最贵的。)
