A man named Randy in Canada liked to hunt for trees He looked for big trees and old trees in Canada. He made maps to show where these trees were. He did not want to cut them down. Actually he wanted people to take care of them.
Ancient trees are today rare (稀有的) everywhere in the world. On Vancouver Island in Canada, there are so many big trees. The biggest trees are about 800 years old. They are the survivors of a forest fire. The fire brought damage (损害) to the area about 350 years ago. Randy was told of a very tall tree on Vancouver Island. The tree was said to be 314 feet tall. That would make it the tallest tree in Canada. Randy set out to find the tree.
But someone else found it first. It was found by a logger—a person whose job is to cut down trees. Then he and other loggers wanted to cut down Canada’s tallest tree and all the trees around it.
Randy made a path (小路) in the forest in order that people could see the tall tree. The tree was so big and beautiful that even more and more people wanted to save that forest. Thanks to these people, that forest is now a park. Canada’s tallest tree is still there.

Children grow quickly, especially their feet. But many families cannot afford (买得起) new shoes each time. As a result, about 300 million children around the world go barefoot(赤脚), those children risk picking up diseases and parasites (寄生虫) from the soil.
Kenton Lee, an American, has a solution for those barefoot kids -- a shoe that grows with the child. He explains how the shoe works and how it is able to last so long. “It grows in three places: the front, the sides with velcro (尼龙搭扣) and the back with a buckle (扣环). It can last up to five years. The bottom is made of compressed rubber (压缩橡胶), and the top is high-quality leather. The shoes come in two sizes: small that fits children aged 4 to 9 and large for children aged 9 to 14.”
Lee says he got the idea for the shoe while working as a volunteer in Kenya. “There were many children with too small shoes for their feet, but they were too poor to buy a new one. So they had to cut open the front of the shoes to let their toes stick out. I want to do something to help them, so I invent these shoes.”
Up to now, they have sent more than 50,000 pairs of shoes to 70 countries. A pair of shoes, he says, gives a child not only protection, but also self-worth. It's a small invention but really does make a big difference in these children's life.

阅读下面短文, 简略回答问题。
My 100 Days Without a Mobile Phone
When was the last time you left home without your mobile phone? Can you imagine yourself living a month, or even a year without checking your mobile phone from time to time?
As a busy modern person with lots of social connections, plans and responsibilities, I just cannot afford to not be in touch with the rest of the world. Staying connected to other people is a big part of my life. However, sometimes it can be bothersome (恼人的).
One day I discovered I was terribly tired out. I tried turning notifications (通知) off. But the fear of missing out something important made me check the phone more often than before. So, I simply stopped using my phone.
Well, to tell the truth, it was not simple at all. For the first couple of days, I had a big fear that all of my friends would soon forget about me. When I had a free moment, I had no idea what to get myself distracted (分心的) with, and the worries mixed with boredom kept bothering me.
However, after three weeks without a mobile phone, I started noticing changes—changes which I liked, and which drove me to not just continue the experiment, but in fact to reorganize some of my habits.
First of all, I noticed that I became much more focused (专注的). Before, while doing something, I would often find myself wondering what was going on online. After a month of staying away from my mobile phone, I found that the urge (冲动) was already not that strong and that my ability to focus improved.
I discovered that the world is a beautiful place. Before, I would look at it through my camera mostly: take a photo, post it, get some likes. Now, I saw beautiful people walking around and I sensed the seasons change. I could understand the actual beauty of the world, and I did not need anyone else to prove the value of this beauty through likes or shares.
Now, as 100 days have passed, I can say that the experiment was worth it. I am planning to stay away from my phone for as long as possible.

A man named Randy in Canada liked to hunt for trees. He looked for big trees and old trees in Canada.
There may still be a bigger tree out there. Maybe you will find it. But there are only a few old forests left in Canada. Many are still at risk of being cut down.
