He was even named Adventure of the Year by a famous geography magazine in 2018. Although Jerry had achieved great success, he didn’t feel fulfilled. He asked himself, “Is it enough to climb the highest mountains? Am I doing something helpful? How can I turn my adventures into something that can help the world?” Jerry learned that scientists need plants, rocks and water samples(样本)from the places far away to do research. But scientists can’t get there themselves as such places are hard to reach——only the bravest adventurers can make it. Jerry thought himself could do something to help. He then came up with an idea. He set up a team of top adventures to collect samples for scientists. By studying the samples, scientists could know more about the earth and find ways to protect it. Recently Jerry and his adventurer friends have discovered a special plant life of Mountain Qomolangma. The samples they brought back have helped scientists how plants live in extreme(极端的)conditions. For Jerry, this kind of adventure is most satisfying. “Such adventures had made us see life in a different way. C The idea of growing food in a desert would make most people laugh but this is quickly becoming a reality. There are currently two desert farms in the world where quality vegetables are being planted cheaply and easily. Sundrop Farms, based in South Australia, uses experimental greenhouses to grow tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. The biggest challenge of growing food in a desert, obviously, is the lack of available water. The researchers at Sundrop Farms have gotten around this problem by using the sun to desalinate (淡化) sea water. It can also be used to control the temperature of the greenhouses. Without depending on limited resources such as land and fresh water Sundrop Farms has made farming a practice. This can increase the world’s food supplies. Another benefit of this kind of farming is that it can be done anywhere, thus reducing the costs of transporting food to distant locations. Yet another benefit is that it reduces the need for pesticides (杀虫剂). Another experimental desert farm is the Sahara Forest Project, which began in Qatar in December 2012. Greenhouses in the farm are cooled by saltwater. Solar power and other technologies are used together to help make vegetation (植被) grow in the desert environment. As deserts have expanded over recent years around the world due to global warming, this project could solve the problem. The result form the Qatar project were better than expected and in June of 2014, Jordan agreed to host another one. This will be much bigger than the Qatar project and the project members will have even more opportunities to test their experiments on a much larger scale. It is not clear yet that desert farming resents the future of farming but these projects have shown some success in the field. 8. What does “this problem” in paragraph 2 refer to? A. Sea water is bard to purify. B. The desert is short of water. C. The temperature is high in the desert. D. Desert farms aren’t fit to plant vegetables. 9. What is one of the characters of desert farming? A. It needs more pesticides. B. It saves delivery costs. C. It has a location limit. D. It solves food waste problems 10. What can we know about the Sabara Forest Project? A. It lives up to expectations B. It can help produce more food C. It is started to prevent global warming D. It uses technology to produce saltwater 11. What can be inferred about desert farming from the last paragraph? A. It still has problems to solve. B. It represents the future of farming. C Its early success has aroused interest in it. D. Its aim is to create more job opportunities. D The hike to the lost Incan city of Choquequirao is one of the most difficult in Peru. From the town of Cachora, which is 161km west of Cusco, it's an 18km walk to Capuliyoc Mountain, then down to Playa Rosalina, where travellers camp for the night. Waking early, travelers then have to cross the Apurímac River and walk uphill to camp close to the ruins. Then, the next morning, it's another 2km walk up to the ruins, 3, 100m above sea level. To get back? Well, it's the same way you came. “I've had people in their 60s and 70s do it,” said Juan Barrios, a guide from the Adventure Life company. “But some people come out thinking that because it's only 28km from the drop off they can do it in a day. Six or seven days for the hike is best.” It makes sense, then, that Choquequirao draws only about 30 people a day during the high season (June through August). Compare that to the 2, 500 people who arrive each day at the famous Incan city of Machu Picchu. But for those who make the journey, the rewards (回报) are great: beautiful mountain views at every turn, and the chance to explore the wonderful ruins nearly alone. Believed to be created around the same time as Machu Picchu, in 1445, Choquequirao is actually larger than better-known Machu Picchu. But very little has been written about Peru's other lost city and researchers are still uncovering new parts of the ruins, leaving life on the mountain relatively untouched. But officials say that the building of the first cable car (缆车) to Choquequirao will shorten the several-day walk to a 15-minute cable car ride. As a result, the number of travellers that now make the journey each week could turn into 3,000 visitors per day. Choquequirao is beautiful now because of how untouched it is. Even though the lost city was discovered by Spanish explorer Juan Arias Díaz in 1710, the ruins still make you feel as though you're the first to find them. Will it be the same when more travellers flood in (大量涌入)? 12. What does the first paragraph centre on? A. How tall Choquequirao is. B. How to get to Choquequirao easily. C. What great views Choquequirao has. D. How hard the trip to Choquequirao is. 13. In what way is Choquequirao different from Machu Picchu? A. Choquequirao is older. B. Choquequirao is quieter. C. Choquequirao is smaller. D. Choquequirao is better known. 14. How are the ruins of Choquequirao? A. They're still being dug out. B. They're in a generally poor condition. C. They're being renewed at the moment. D. They've been researched internationally. 15. What does the author think of Choquequirao in the future? A. It will be more attractive. B. It will develop at a slow speed. C. It won't necessarily take a turn for the better. D. It won't be more popular than Machu Picchu. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 People hate packaging. And, yes, there’s a lot of bad and wasteful packaging out there. ___16___ When it comes to protecting and dispensing (分发) food, the right package can greatly reduce waste. Here are a few examples. Packaging keeps the meat fresh. We throw away a fifth of the beef we buy — the equivalent (等量) of 8 million cows each year — often because it goes bad before we cook it. The solution? ___17___ Case-ready packaging can lengthen that shelf life to up to 21 days. If the meat you bought isn’t going to be eaten within a few days, case-ready packaging is the better choice for the environment. ___18___ This dairy waste can be avoided with packaging technology such as Tetra Pak (利乐包装纸盒), which is commonly used in Europe and Asia to keep milk from spoiling, even without refrigeration. Recycled or not, Tetra Pak is a good environmental bet because it can lengthen the shelf life of milk up to nine months. ___19___ Once again, the environmental benefit of the food-protection technology outweighs the harmful impact of the packaging itself. Packaging Fixes Sticky Situations. ___20___ One example of waste-reducing packaging is the concept project shown from designer Drew Stanley. He designed a peanut butter jar made of a soft material which can be turned inside out and scraped (刮掉) clean, avoiding sticky food sticking to your fingers. A. Packaging protects milk. B. Using Tetra Pak packaging. C. But packaging isn’t always the enemy. D. We should pay attention to the rubbish produced by packaging. E. Scientists have developed packaging that can keep refrigerated meat fresh for weeks. F. It can reduce the need for refrigeration and the amount of milk that goes wasted. G. Food left behind in jars and bottles makes up a surprising amount of waste. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 完形填空(共15小题; 每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的 A、B、C和 D 四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 For six years as a charge nurse, Nenita Angeles never showed any emotional weakness to her staff nurses. D 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了热爱冒险的Jerry利用冒险的机会为科学家们做了一些有益的事情。 【4题详解】 词义猜测题。根据划线单词下文“He asked himself, “Is it enough to climb the highest mountains? Am I doing something helpful? How can I turn my adventures into something that can help the world?”(他问自己:“爬最高的山就够了吗?我在做一些有用的事情吗?我怎样才能把我的冒险变成对世界有帮助的事情呢?”)”可知,他对自己所取得的成就并不满足。选项A“Satisfied (满足的)”;选项B“Lonely (孤独的)”;选项C“Patient (有耐心的)”;选项D“Worried (担忧的)”。故选A。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第三段“He set up a team of top adventures to collect samples for scientists. By studying the samples, scientists could know more about the earth and find ways to protect it.(他组建了一个顶级冒险团队,为科学家收集样本。通过研究这些样本,科学家可以更多地了解地球,并找到保护地球的方法)”可知,他组建团队的目的是帮助科学家。故选B。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“For Jerry, this kind of adventure is most satisfying. “Such adventures had made us see life in a different way.(对Jerry来说,这种冒险是最令人满意的。这样的冒险让我们以不同的方式看待生活)”可推断,Jerry认为他和他朋友的冒险改变了他们对生活的理解。故选C。 【7题详解】 主旨大意题。根据文章第二段“Although Jerry had achieved great success, he didn’t feel fulfilled.(虽然Jerry取得了巨大的成功,但他并没有感到满足)”可知,Jerry在冒险领域取得巨大的成就。再根据第三段“He set up a team of top adventures to collect samples for scientists. By studying the samples, scientists could know more about the earth and find ways to protect it.(他组建了一个顶级冒险团队,为科学家收集样本。通过研究这些样本,科学家可以更多地了解地球,并找到保护地球的方法)”可知,他并不满足于已取得的成就,反而利用冒险为科学家收集样本以供研究。所以,文章主要讲述的是Jerry将冒险变成科学研究。“Adventures Turned into Something Greater.(冒险变成了更伟大的东西)”作为文章标题最为合适。故选D。 C The idea of growing food in a desert would make most people laugh but this is quickly becoming a reality. C. Its early success has aroused interest in it. D. Its aim is to create more job opportunities. 【答案】8. B 9. B 10. A 11. C 【解析】 【分析】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了沙漠农业相关项目。 【8题详解】 词句猜测题。根据文章第二段划线词前句“The biggest challenge of growing food in a desert, obviously, is the lack of available water.(在沙漠中种植粮食的最大挑战,显然是缺乏可用的水。)”和后半句“by using the sun to desalinate (淡化) sea water.(通过利用阳光淡化海水)”可知,通过利用阳光淡化海水来解决沙漠中缺水的问题。所以this problem指代前文中所提到的“沙漠缺水”。故选B。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第三段“Another benefit of this kind of farming is that it can be done anywhere, thus reducing the costs of transporting food to distant locations. (这种农业的另一个好处是它可以在任何地方进行,从而降低了将食物运送到遥远地方的成本。)”可知,沙漠农业可以在任何地方进行,进而减少食物运送成本。故选B。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第五段“The result form the Qatar project were better than expected (卡塔尔项目的结果好于预期。)”可知,萨巴拉森林项目的结果比预想得好。故选A。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“The result form the Qatar project were better than expected and in June of 2014, Jordan agreed to host another one. (卡塔尔项目的结果好于预期,2014年6月,约旦同意举办另一个项目。)”和“It is not clear yet that desert farming resents the future of farming but these projects have shown some success in the field.( 目前还不清楚沙漠农业是否会影响农业的未来,但这些项目已经在这一领域取得了一些成功。)”可知,萨巴拉森林项目的结果比预想得好,约旦赞同再进行一个。从而推断,沙漠农场项目早期的成功已经引起了人们对沙漠农场的兴趣。故选C。 D The hike to the lost Incan city of Choquequirao is one of the most difficult in Peru. 【答案】12. D 13. B 14. A 15. C 【解析】 【分析】本文是一篇说明文,主要讲的是前往失踪的印加城市Choquequirao的徒步旅行受到了很多登山者的欢迎。 【12题详解】 主旨大意题。通读第一段,尤其是“The hike to the lost Incan city of Choquequirao is one of the most difficult in Peru.(前往失踪的印加城市Choquequirao的徒步旅行是秘鲁最困难的旅行之一)”可知,第一段的中心是去Choquequirao的旅程有多难,故选D。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段的“It makes sense, then, that Choquequirao draws only about 30 people a day during the high season (June through August). Compare that to the 2, 500 people who arrive each day at the famous Incan city of Machu Picchu.(因此,Choquequirao在旺季(6月到8月)每天只吸引大约30人就说得通了。相比之下,每天有2500人抵达印加著名城市马丘比丘)”可知,Choquequirao不同于马丘比丘,Choquequirao更安静。故选B。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据倒数第三段的“But very little has been written about Peru's other lost city and researchers are still uncovering new parts of the ruins, leaving life on the mountain relatively untouched.(但关于秘鲁另一座失落的城市的报道很少,研究人员仍在发掘废墟的新部分,使山上的生活相对未受影响)”可知,Choquequirao的废墟仍在挖掘中。故选A。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段的“Choquequirao is beautiful now because of how untouched it is. Even though the lost city was discovered by Spanish explorer Juan Arias Díaz in 1710, the ruins still make you feel as though you're the first to find them. Will it be the same when more travellers flood in People hate packaging. 【答案】16. C 17. E 18. A 19. F 20. G 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了正确的包装可以有效减少浪费。 【16题详解】 空格前的句子“People hate packaging. And, yes, there’s a lot of bad and wasteful packaging out there.(人们讨厌包装。是的,有很多糟糕和浪费的包装。)”说因为浪费,人们讨厌包装。而空格后的句子“When it comes to protecting and dispensing (分发) food, the right package can greatly reduce waste.(在保护和分配食物时,正确的包装可以大大减少浪费。)”又说正确的包装可以大大减少浪费。由此可推知,观点发生了转变,故空处应该填转折句进行过渡。C项“But packaging isn’t always the enemy.(但包装并不总是环境的敌人)”填入空格处,符合文章行文逻辑。故选C项。 【17题详解】 根据空格前的句子“We throw away a fifth of the beef we buy—the equivalent (等量) of 8 million cows each year—often because it goes bad before we cook it. The solution?(我们扔掉了我们购买的五分之一的牛肉——相当于每年800万头牛——通常是因为它们在我们烹饪之前就变质了。解决方案?)”可知,空格处的句子应该提到防止牛肉变质的解决方案。所以E项“Scientists have developed packaging that can keep refrigerated meat fresh for weeks.(科学家们已经开发出一种可以使冷藏肉类保持数周新鲜的包装。)”填入空格处,符合语境。故选E项。 【18题详解】 空格处是该部分的主题句。根据下文的内容“This dairy waste can be avoided with packaging technology such as Tetra Pak (利乐包装纸盒), which is commonly used in Europe and Asia to keep milk from spoiling, even without refrigeration. Recycled or not, Tetra Pak is a good environmental bet because it can lengthen the shelf life of milk up to nine months.(使用利乐包等包装技术可以避免这种乳制品浪费。利乐包在欧洲和亚洲通常用于防止牛奶变质,即使没有冷藏。无论回收与否,利乐包都是一个很好的环保选择,因为它可以将牛奶的保质期延长到9个月。)”可知,该部分主要是说利乐包对牛奶的保护作用。所以,A项“Packaging protects milk.(包装保护牛奶。)”填入空格处,可以作为该部分的主题句,符合语境。故填A项。 【19题详解】 根据空格后的句子“Once again, the environmental benefit of the food-protection technology outweighs the harmful impact of the packaging itself.(再一次,食品保护技术的环境效益超过了包装本身的有害影响。)”可知,空格处的句子应该表明食品保护技术的环境效益超过了包装本身有害影响的事实。所以,F项“It can reduce the need for refrigeration and the amount of milk that goes wasted.(它可以减少对冷藏的需求和浪费的牛奶量。)”填入空格处,符合语境。因为冷藏需要能量,而浪费牛奶也是对环境有害。故选F项。 【20题详解】 空格后的句子“One example of waste-reducing packaging is the concept project shown from designer Drew Stanley. He designed a peanut butter jar made of a soft material which can be turned inside out and scraped clean, avoiding sticky food sticking to your fingers.(设计师德鲁·斯坦利展示的概念项目就是减少废物包装的一个例子。他设计了一种用柔软材料制成的花生酱罐,可以翻转过来刮干净,避免粘稠的食物粘在手指上。)”提到了设计师Drew Stanley设计了一种新的方式来解决罐装食物的浪费,由此可推知,空格处应与罐装食品造成浪费有关。G项“Food left behind in jars and bottles makes up a surprising amount of waste.(留在罐子和瓶子里的食物造成了惊人的浪费)”填入空格处,符合语境。故选G项。 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 完形填空(共15小题; 每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的 A、B、C和 D 四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 For six years as a charge nurse, Nenita Angeles never showed any emotional weakness to her staff nurses. After a while, many passengers urged (催促) the driver to go ahead, but the driver replied rudely, “Can’t you see I’m enjoying my noodles? I’m so hungry.” After a few minutes someone wanted to get off the bus, but was refused by the driver. He explained that nobody could get off because it was NOT a bus stop! Standing beside the driver, I watched him have the last of the noodles, thinking that we could finally start now. However, the driver took out another bag of soup! I began to feel a little angry because I would be late for an important meeting. So I urged the driver to hurry up. However, the driver suggested politely that I should ask for a leave. When the soup was about to be finished, the driver picked up the phone again, looking in the rear-view mirror (后视镜) from time to time as if he were waiting for someone. At this time all the passengers on the bus began to shout, “We have waited too long. Start right now!” Suddenly, a police car stopped in front of our bus. Then the driver locked the doors of the bus, while the policemen checked the passengers one by one, and found out the two thieves! Finally, the thieves were arrested and taken away. Watching the thieves having been caught by the policemen, all the passengers smiled with delight. Obviously none of us had ever seen such a scene before, and we all showed our admiration to the driver in silence. Minutes later, the driver looked at me and smiled, “Sorry for keeping you waiting for so long. Do you still consider me as a rude guy?” I shook my head and said loudly, “Absolutely not, you are my hero!” 词汇激活 行为类 ①意识到:realize that/accompany him/keep him company ②找出:find out/dig out ③钦佩:show admiration to/feel admiration for 情绪类 ①高兴:delight/happiness ②钦佩:admiration/worship 【点睛】[高分句型1] Ladies and gentlemen, just now we received a call saying there are two thieves on the bus, and someone’s mobile phone has been stolen.
