B The warmth of the family gathering has always been a beacon (灯塔) in my life, a constant source of strength and happiness. Those moments, full of love and laughter, have shaped who I am today and continue to influence my outlook on life. The power of togetherness is a lesson I learned early on, and it’s a principle I carry with me every day. When we were growing up, our family had a valuable tradition that filled our lives with joy and anticipation. Every Saturday evening, we would set off to visit our extended family, and the excitement was obvious. The pleasant smell of freshly baked goods would waft through the air, signaling our approach to Aunt Lucille’s warm and welcome home . As the famous biscuits attracted us, my sister and I, unable to contain our excitement, would repeatedly ask, “Are we there yet?” At home, we were accustomed to sandwiches, but Aunt Lucille’s biscuits were a different kind of glee. After eating every last biscuit, we came to the backyard where the night sky unfolded above us. There, we gathered around, drinking sweet tea, as the melodic sound of guitars by Henri and Beau created a symphony that resonated with the love and unity of our family. These evenings were more than just a break from the routine; they were a celebration of our bond. As the years went by, these gatherings became a place where we could escape the worries of the world and simply be with one another. The stories shared, the laughter, and the quiet moments of connection have left an indelible mark on my heart. They have taught me the importance of cherishing the time we have with our loved ones, for these are the moments that truly matter in life. The impact of these family times is great and I will always cherish it and try my best to pass it on to future generations. 4. What is mentioned about the family gathering in paragraph 1? A. Its process. B. Its significance. C. Its reasons. D. Its contents. 5. How did the author feel when going to Aunt Lucille’s home? A. Nervous. B. Hungry. C. Angry. D. Excited. 6. What does the underlined word “glee” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Pleasure. B. Training. C. Health. D. Method. 7. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. The Joy of Saturday Evenings B. The Influence of Childhood Life C. The Origin of Family Traditions D. The Bright Light of Family Gatherings C Two researchers were awarded the Nobel Prize in physics on Oct. 8, 2024, for their pioneering work in the field of artificial neural (神经的) networks. Though artificial neural networks are modeled on biological neural networks, both researchers’ work drew on statistical physics, therefore the prize in physics. The physicist John Hopfield used ideas from physics to study a particular type of neural network, now called the Hopfield network. In particular, he studied what happens to the network over time. During the 1980s, Geoffrey Hinton and his colleagues built on Hopfield’s ideas to create a new class of model. Unlike Hopfield networks that could store patterns and correct errors in patterns, the new model could generate new patterns, thereby planting the seeds of the modern generative AI revolution. Hinton was also part of another breakthrough that happened in the 1980s, which is a key algorithm (算法) that makes it possible to select weights based on the performance of the network on a training data set. However, it remained challenging to train artificial neural networks with many layers. In the 2000s, Hinton and his co-workers cleverly discovered an approach, and the deep learning revolution had begun. The Nobel Prize in physics shows how ideas from physics contributed to the rise of deep earning. Now deep learning has begun to pay back to physics by enabling accurate and fast simulations (模拟) of systems ranging from molecules and materials all the way to the entire Earth’s climate. By awarding the Nobel Prize in physics to Hopfield and Hinton, the prize committee has signaled its hope in humanity’s potential to use these advances to promote human well-being and to build a sustainable world. 8. Why were the two scientists awarded the Noble Prize in physics? A. They discovered neural networks. B. They invented artificial neural networks. C. They are excellent experts in statistical physics. D. They used methods in physics to study artificial neural networks. 9. What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about? A. Geoffrey Hinton’s research. B. John Hopfield’s achievement. C. How modern generative AI revolution began. D. The cooperation between John Hopfield and Geoffrey Hinton. 10. What has led to the deep learning revolution according to the passage? A. Deciding on a training data set. B. Training artificial neural networks. C. Hinton’s breakthrough in the 1980s. D. Finding a way to train multi-layer artificial neural networks. 11. What may be the influence of awarding the Nobel Prize in physics to Hopfield and Hinton? A. Simulations of systems will be more accurate. B. People will employ the development to benefit the Earth. C. More people will be interested in studying physics. D. Deep learning will play a more important role in our life. D Texting on the moon or live streaming on Mars may be closer than you think. That’s because NASA and a cellphone manufacturer are working together to set up a 4G cellular (蜂窝状的) network on the moon. While this seems like something out of science fiction, the reality is that a rocket will be launched later in 2024 and it will carry a 4G network to the surface of the Moon. “The first challenge to getting a network up and running is the bad conditions of the lunar environment and having space-qualified cellular equipment that meets the appropriate size, weight, and power requirements, as well as being operated without a technician,” Walt Engelund, deputy associate administrator for programs at NASA said. Astronauts currently communicate with each other by radios but a more complicated system is needed. Being able to easily communicate on the moon is critical — as critical as any other mission element like power, water to drink, and air to breathe. Eventually, this effort will help establish a lunar communication network that could give our explorers the ability to beam scientific data back, discuss with mission control, and talk to their families, as if they were walking down the street on their cellphones. If everything goes as planned, the cellphone manufacturer’s 4G lunar network will do more than just allow astronauts to communicate with each other, and it will also allow autonomous robotics on the moon to operate. The hope is that the network could be adapted for Mars and that it can be upgraded to 5G. This could be the beginning of an off-world Internet which is similar to the one on Earth. In the future, space immigrants will be able to connect their personal devices to the network and access apps and information anywhere mankind can travel to. It seems that the world of sci-fi is becoming a reality. 12. What is the function of paragraph 1? A. To announce a new initiative by NASA. B. To show the reason for space exploration. C. To stress the importance of space network. D. To forecast the progression of space Internet. 13. What does Walt Engelund’s statement mainly address? A. The roles of technicians in space missions. B. Difficulties of setting up a moon network. C. Space equipment’s size and power requirements. D. The need for advanced lunar communication tech. 14. What is the author’s attitude towards the future of off-world Internet? A. Doubtful. B. Objective. C. Positive. D. Disapproving. 15. What is the main idea of the text? A. 4G technology is going to the moon. B. 4G technology is created for exploring the moon. C. 4G technology helps people live better on the moon. D. 4G technology decides the exploration plan of the moon. If you’ve ever felt anxious before delivering a speech, taking a test or performing on stage, you’re not alone. ____16____. As he went forward, he heard a little girl’s weak cry. “Help… I’m stuck… Help!” Richard rushed toward the voice from the heart of the woods. “Don’t give up! I’m coming!” He ran screaming after noticing a little girl and her dog holding onto a log in the river. The current was washing away everything on its course, and the girl was so lucky because the dog was stuck on something under the surface. But that wouldn’t hold on for long as the current grew faster and stronger. Richard was running out of time. His only intention was to somehow pull the two out to the shore before they were washed toward the edge of the waterfall. “Help!” The girl’s voice made Richard shake. Just then, his mind acted fast. “Hold on… I’ll be back.” Moments later, Richard returned with a rope tied around his waist, and he knew it might be his only hope to save the girl and her dog. He dived into the river and swam toward them. To his shock, the current was even stronger than expected, and since the water was muddy, he couldn’t see clearly. But he kept going. The girl was extremely frightened because the waterfall was just a few meters away from her. “Trust me! Just give me your hand,” he told the girl. The girl didn’t know how to swim. She threw her hands and legs into the water and struggled toward Richard, grabbing his hand. “Hold me tight!” Richard used all his strength and pulled the log toward him. He got hold of the log in one hand and swam toward the shore. “Thank you so much!” The girl cried as she finally fell on the shore. Richard breathed heavily and was glad he had saved them in time. After a while, Richard gently lifted up the girl. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “Good dog!” said Richard. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 听力:1—5 CCAAB 6—10 BCBAC 11—15 BBCAB 16—20 CAABC 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 高二年级教学质量检测联合调考 英语 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? A. 8. D 9. C 10. D 11. This could be the beginning of an off-world Internet, which is similar to the one on Earth. 12 A 13. B 14. C 15. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文: After a while, Richard gently lifted up the girl. “Is everything okay?” he asked with concern. The girl was still badly shaking, hugging her dog tightly, with tears flowing like a river. “Don’t be frightened. We are out of danger now,” comforted Richard. Seeing the girl relieve gradually, Richard advised her to free her dog. She did so. In no time, the dog ran around her, waving its tail, as if to prove they were safe. Then it stopped at the foot of the girl, looking at her. “Good dog!” said Richard. He explained how the loyal dog spared no effort to keep her up, without which she would have died before the rescue came. Hearing what he said, she hugged and touched it affectionately. Then she turned to Richard and conveyed her sincere gratitude again. To ensure their security, Richard offered to send them home. She embraced it, resulting in a happy ending. So love isn’t absent anytime and anywhere, even though it is near an abandoned highway. 词汇激活 行为类 ①拥抱:hug/embrace ②建议:advise/suggest/recommend ③尽全力:spare no effort/try one’s best 情绪类 ①担忧:concern/worry ②害怕的:frightened/scared 【点睛】【高分句型1】He explained how the loyal dog spared no effort to keep her up, without which she would have died before the rescue came.(运用了how引导的宾语从句和which引导的定语从句) 【高分句型2】Hearing what he said, she hugged and touched it affectionately.(运用了what引导的宾语从句) 听力:1—5 CCAAB 6—10 BCBAC 11—15 BBCAB 16—20 CAABC 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
