Similarly, kangaroos use their tails for balance. But their tail also works as their third powerful leg, it can help push them forward. In addition, a monkey’s tail can also act like a hand, helping it to hold onto tree branches.

For many birds, a spread and raised tail is part of the lover-finding show. 4 Male ones will spread their colorful tails to attract female ones.

Do you like the number 13? 1 In the past, a lot of tall buildings didn’t have the 13th floor. 2 For example, the number “4” is said to be unlucky because it sounds like the Chinese word for “death”. But that’s just one example about numbers in China.
When I first came here, I was surprised to see that many websites had numbers in their names instead of letters. I soon found that this is actually convenient, as Chinese characters (汉字) cannot be used for website addresses. 3
In pinyin, the telecom company China Unicom is called Zhongguo Liantong. If the company used their pinyin name for their website address, it would be quite long. 4
In addition, the pronunciations of some numbers sound similar to other words in Chinese. This is wordplay (双关语). For example, the numbers “520” in Chinese sound similar to the pronunciation of the Chinese phrase “I love you”. 5
A.They can only use numbers or letters instead.
B.There are also superstitions (迷信) about some numbers in China.
C.In western countries, some people think the number 13 brings bad luck.
D.It is interesting to see how Chinese people use numbers in different ways.

Imagine you’ re rushing through a crowded subway station, late for a meeting. Suddenly someone is walking very slowly in front of you, playing with his/her smart phone. You will probably feel angry, but have you ever done the same thing? 1
When you see someone looking different, you may want to take a picture or a video. 2 If you want a picture, ask them first. Your friends may not mind your taking pictures of them. But if you want to post them online, make sure you ask before posting anything embarrassing (尴尬的). 3
As we all know, smart phones are great tools for communicating with friends over long distances. However, nowadays it’s common to see people sitting together, not speaking but just looking at their smart phones. 4 It may not be a good thing that you always have something to do on your smart phone. 5 So don’t spend every spare moment with your phone, and you may get many wonderful ideas.

以下是一则短文,请阅读短文,并从下列六个句子中选择五个还原到原文中,使原文的意思完整、连贯。
Do you often get angry? Anger is a kind of feeling. 1 When your teacher gives you too much homework, when your team loses an important game, or when a friend borrows your favorite thing and then breaks it, you may get really angry.
2 For example, you breathe (呼吸) faster, your face turns red, and you may want to break something, but sometimes, you keep your anger inside. The problem is that if you do this, you may get a headache or your stomach may hurt.
3 But keeping anger inside usually just makes things worse. So you need to let your anger out. Try to let it out in the right way, without hurting others or yourself.
When you get angry, you can talk about it with other people. 4 When you talk about anger, those bad feelings can start to go away. Here are some other things you can do when you start to feel angry: talk to a good friend; count from 1 to 100; go for a bike ride; think about good things, etc.
5 So you should think carefully before you take action. Don’t let your anger control (控制) you. Try your best to control your anger!
A.Remember that how you act when you are angry can make everything better or worse.
B.In fact, it’s not good to hide your anger, and it’s normal for you to get angry sometimes.

What do you usually do in your spare time? Chatting online is now a national pastime (消遣) in China, especially among the post-90s and post-00s generation. 1 But hidden rules do exist (存在), as long as you take the time to look for them.
Get to the Point.
When sending a friend request, include your real name and any other identifying (身份辨别) information. Remember, everybody’s time is valuable. Never send an “Are you there?” without any follow-up messages. 2
Send the Right Things.
Please send texts, not voice messages. It might be easier for you to speak than type, but what about the people on the other end? 3 Also, never send information by voice message—it is hard to note down. Emojis (表情符号) and GIFs can save the day when you find yourself in an embarrassing conversation, or words fail you.
4
You can always judge a person’s mood by their text messages. If the person you’re talking to says “Good night” or “I’m going to take a shower”, that’s probably not what they’re actually going to do. 5 If someone waits for longer than three seconds before saying “Yes”, they probably really mean “No”. If you receive these emojis from friends who are older, read them literally (照字面地) (such as a smile or a wave). For the post-90s and post-00s generation, however, the meanings of the emojis might be totally different.
A.They may be unable to listen to a 59-second message right now.
B.It is just an excuse to stop talking to you.
C.To some people, however, online chats can seem like a kind of polite conversation.
D.The quicker that you get to the point, the more likely the other person is to reply.
E.Try to Understand.

Scientists found that, during a test, people who slowly got back to an even balance of dopamine scored 8 percent lower. 5 the answer is yes. So don’t fear, there is some good news. The study also found that the more practice you get, the less stressed you’ll be. So, it turns out that practice really does make perfect.
A.What happens when we sit for an exam?
B.It is like a cup flowing over with water.
C.So, why do some students perform better under stress?
D.That’s the difference between a good mark and a bad mark.

In fact, the “happy switch” is a kind of Brain-Computer Interface (BCI,脑机接). It works like a bridge. 2 Some BCIs can affect people’s brain activities. Some can let people control the computer with their thoughts. Because of the good use of BCI, in the future, they will help people in more ways.
Play games.
BCI can help people play computer games without using their hands. They can think of the word “jump”. 3
Make life easier.
Imagine your brain is connected to the “computer” of your home. Wouldn’t it be great to turn off lights before going to bed just by thinking about it?
