Aarrav Anil is an 18-year-old student from India. He has had a deep interest in mechanics (机械学) since childhood. He has taken part in more than 20 robotic competitions around the world.
But he didn’t create the smart spoon to win a prize. It was just because of his uncle, Arjun, who has Parkinson’s disease (帕金森病). The disease makes Uncle Arjun’s hands shake, and he can’t control it. When Aarrav saw this, he wanted to do something to help.
Aarrav soon started to act. He used a 3D printer to make tiny sensors (传感器) and controllers. The sensors can find out the shaking of the hand. The controllers will then start working to stop the shaking. Thus keeps the spoon stable (稳定的). The smart spoon finally came out.
The spoon can be washed. It is easy to clean and can also take the place of a fork. Aarrav has made the spoon deeper than usual ones, so it can hold more food.

Chinese scientists have developed a fish-shaped swimming robot. It can “eat” microplastics in water bodies and repair itself if broken down.
Microplastics, pieces of plastic smaller than 5 mm, are widely spread in the ocean. They are easily eaten by ocean animals, causing a serious danger to human and ecosystem (生态) health.
By studying the nacre (珍珠贝), scientists from Sichuan University modeled the nacre’s structure to create a special material which is lasting and self-repairing. According to a study published in the journal Nano Letters, the research team used the material to develop a 15-mm fish-like soft robot, making it swim quickly and take in microplastics in water. “Soft robots need to have high quality to get used to working in water,” said Wang Yuyan, the first author of the research paper. The robotic fish can swim at a speed of 2. 67 times its body length (长度) per second.
At present, the soft robot can only collect microplastics from the water surface. 3 . The researchers are further working on a new material that could help to find microplastic underwater and share live data online. It must be realized in the near future, the paper said.
With the development of science and technology, the new material design is expected to be used in many other fields, such as solar power generation and so on.
42.What can the fish-shaped robot do?
A.Collect microplastics in water bodies.
B.Study nacre which is living in the ocean.
C.Repair machines in the water when they are broken.
43.How fast does the fish-shaped robot swim?
A.About 15 mm per second. B.About 40 mm per second. C.About 26. 7 mm per second.

Teens are really good at ignoring (忽视) their parents’ messages, which is why Nick Herbert, his father from London, created on app called ReplyASAP.
Nick came up with the idea for ReplyASAP after realizing that simply giving his son a mobile phone didn’t make getting in touch with him easier. He wasn’t answering Nick’s messages as fast as Nick had expected. It was driving the father crazy, so he began to create a messaging app that would make reaching kids easier for parents. It took eight months and a lot of money to complete the project. But Nick thinks ReplyASAP could become popular, as it is likely to give parents some peace of mind.
ReplyASAP is designed with parents in mind. It lets them know if their child has seen their messages, or if their child’s phone is turned off. However, most importantly, the app makes it impossible for kids to ignore messages. When they receive a text from their parents, the app basically locks their phone, taking over the home screen and sounding an alarm until the message is answered.
It seems that ReplyASAP will become teenagers’ biggest nightmare (噩梦), by making it impossible to ignore their parents. Nick agrees that it’s a possibility, but adds that his app shouldn’t be parents’ most important way of communicating with their children.
ReplyASAP is free to download, but offers different plans, depending on how many people you are planning to get in touch with. It works only on Android now. But Nick wants to make ReplyASAP available on the Apple Store as soon as possible.
46.Why did Nick want to create ReplyASAP?
A.Because he wanted to be famous.
B.Because his son didn’t have a mobile phone.
C.Because he wanted to get in touch with his son easier.
47.How long did Nick spend creating ReplyASAP?
A.4 months. B.8 months. C.8 years.
48.Why will ReplyASAP become teenagers’ biggest nightmare?
A.It works only on Android at present.
B.It’s impossible to ignore their parents.
C.It allows teenagers to fight with their parents.
49.What idea may Nick agree with?
A.Many parents would like his app.
B.All the teenagers liked his app.
C.His son didn’t need a mobile phone.
50.What can we know from the passage?
A.Children will study better with ReplyASAP.
B.People have to pay to download ReplyASAP.
C.ReplyASAP can’t work on the Apple Store now.
四、补全短文。(每小题2分,共10分)
A few years ago, Masaru Ibuka, the head of Sony, 51 Suddenly he had an idea. He stopped the meeting and asked everyone what would happen if Sony took away the recording function (功能) and speakers and sold headphones with a tape player instead. Almost everyone thought he was silly. Still, 52 The result, of course, turned out to be the successful Sony Walkman.
Good ideas often start with a really silly question. Bill Bowerman was making breakfast one day. As he stood there making cakes for his son, 53 Later, he tried it and the result was something like the bottom of most sports shoes we see today. Still, when he took this idea to several shoe companies, 54 In fact, every single company turned him down. Though rather disappointed, Boverman went on to set up his own company, making NIKE sports shoes.
We know today that each of these ideas caused a successful thing that has changed the way many of us live. 55 Children aren’t afraid to ask such questions, but adults usually are. Think how different the world might be if people never asked “silly” questions!
根据短文内容,将下面的选项还原到文中空白处,使短文内容完整、通顺,每个选项只能用一次,其中有一个选项是多余的。
A.Ibuka kept his idea and worked at it.
B.he was laughed at.
C.Bill kept his idea and worked at it.
D.was at a company planning meeting.
E.he asked himself what would happen if he put rubber into his mold (模具).
F.The best questions are usually open-ended and are often “silly”.

阅读下面短文,在空白处填入一个恰当的单词或用括号内所给单词的适当形式填空。
The bicycle is one of the simplest but the most 66 (use) inventions in the world. What is the most surprising is that it was not 67 (invent) earlier, although the great inventor Leonardo da Vinci had drawn pictures for bicycles, flying machines and some other things. Those things were not produced 68 long after he died.
A person riding a bicycle uses very little energy to make the bicycle 69 (move), and there 70 (be) no pollution at all when you are riding. Even so, in most developed 71 (country), most people don’t go to work by bicycle. It’s because the number of cars on the roads 72 (become) larger. It certainly becomes more dangerous to ride a bicycle. 73 a result, more people put their bicycles away and go to work in 74 (they) cars.
And in this way, the situation is made more serious. Perhaps the best way to make riding 75 (safe) and more popular is to build roads only for bicycles.
