Mariko Okada - Tokyo My year abroad in the United States was a fantastic experience. I’m not a shy person, and I was very comfortable speaking to everyone. So I got lots of speaking practice. I also learned lots of interesting things about American culture. When I got home, my friends all said that I had improved so much! I hope to go back again in the future. Carla Fonseca - Rio de Janeiro I spent last year studying English in London. I’m from a small town, and London is a very big city. Sometimes I felt it was too big. There were so many people to talk to, but I always felt bad about my English. I missed my family, and I really missed my two cats. My roommate was always using our telephone, so I hardly had the chance for a nice long talk with my parents. I think it was a good experience for me, but I’m glad to be home! Alvin Chen - Hong Kong Studying in New Zealand was an interesting experience for me, but it was also lots of hard work! I had English classes six hours a day, five days a week—with lots of homework. I also kept a diary of my experience. I like to write, and I wrote two or three pages in my diary every day. On Saturdays, my home stay family took me to lots of interesting places and showed me so many wonderful things about the culture. I’m really glad I went! 21. All the three teenagers went abroad ________. A. to have a holiday B. to visit friends C. to study English D. to find a job 22. Who didn’t really enjoy the stay in a foreign country very much? A. Carla. B. Mariko. C. Alvin. D. None of them. 23. Travelers Corner is most probably ________. A. a sports club newsletter B. a science documentary C. a news website D. a travel magazine 【答案】21. C 22. As a boy, he had to hike for more than an hour every day across hills to collect water from the nearest source. But over time, he realized that during the rainy season, droplets of water would gather in the large leaves of banana trees. So one day he and his father tried to build a canal system with the leaves to collect water and it turned out a success. But afterwards, he moved to Lima at the age of 25. There, shocked by the water shortages and expensive water supply that some of the city’s poorest residents were faced with, Cruz set up El Movimiento Peruanos sin Agua in 2005. The idea was to deploy the method he learned in his hometown on a larger scale, which would provide free, independently sourced and easily accessible water to those who needed it most. He began installing (安装) a traditional fog catcher model developed in the 1980s. At the highest point of Los Tres Miradores, there is a curious set of large structures that resemble a fleet of ships in the sky. They are so-called “fog catchers”. Netted devices, made of high density Raschel polyethylene and spanning several meters wide, are lined up at the top of a misty mound and linked by a network of tubes that lead to storage containers. The 40 fog catchers there provide enough water for 180 families, whether to bathe, clean, drink or to irrigate crops on small garden patches. Supporters believe that fog catchers have the potential to improve water supply for communities around the world among the ever-challenging circumstances. German researcher Lummerich says, “They are cheap, easy to construct.” In a world searching for water supply systems, it is one important puzzle piece that can make an essential difference locally. However, there are some issues. For one, fog catchers require space, which is not always easy to come by in cities, let alone urban slums. At the same time, fog catchers must be properly cleaned and maintained to stay effective. Most crucially, appropriate climate conditions are required. Fog isn’t everywhere. 24. What does the underlined word “deploy” probably mean in paragraph 2? A. Employ. B. Adjust. C. Design. D. Study. 25. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about? A. The reason why Cruz installed fog catchers. B. The difficulties of constructing a canal system. C. The installation and benefits of fog catchers. D. The inspiration Cruz gained to build a canal system. 26. What is the biggest challenge associated with the use of fog catchers? A. High costs. B. Public opposition. C. Space limitation. D. Climate conditions. 27. What’s the best title for the text? A. Urban Areas: A Struggle for Sufficient Water B. Innovative Water Collection Techniques in Peru C. The Global Water Crisis and Possible Solutions D. Fog Catchers: A Local Solution with Global Potential 【答案】24. A 25. C 26. D 27. 根据画线词的上文“There, shocked by the water shortages and expensive water supply that some of the city’s poorest residents were faced with, Cruz set up El Movimiento Peruanos sin Agua in 2005. (在那里,一些城市最贫穷的居民面临着水资源短缺和昂贵的供水,Cruz感到震惊,于2005年成立了El Movimiento Peruanos sin Agua)”和下文“He began installing (安装) a traditional fog catcher model developed in the 1980s. (他开始安装上世纪80年代开发的传统捕雾器模型)”可知,此处讲述了Cruz产生该想法是因为被当地的水资源贫乏情况震惊,他有了想法后便着手解决该问题。由此可知,这种想法应该是将之前在家乡学到的收集水的方法“使用”到新的环境中,划线词意思应该是“使用”,与employ意思相近。故选A项。 根据第三段“At the highest point of Los Tres Miradores, there is a curious set of large structures that resemble a fleet of ships in the sky. 根据最后一段中“Most crucially, appropriate climate conditions are required. (最重要的是,需要适当的气候条件)”可知,捕雾器使用的最大挑战是气候条件。故选D项。 【27题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文可知,文章主要讲述了一个成长在秘鲁山区的年轻人把在自己家乡所尝试发明的收集水的方式带到了后来搬去的一个水资源特别贫乏的地区,运用捕雾的方式解决了当地缺水的困境,给当地居民和生产都带了很多好处。再结合第四段中“Supporters believe that fog catchers have the potential to improve water supply for communities around the world among the ever-challenging circumstances. (支持者认为,在充满挑战的环境中,捕雾器有潜力改善世界各地社区的供水)”可知,这位年轻人采用的捕雾器具有全球应用的潜力。由此可知,D项“捕雾器:具有全球潜力的地方解决方案”契合文章主旨,适合作为文章标题。故选D项。 C Many pupils in school think of science as just another subject on the time-table containing more facts to be learned. This is wrong. Science does not mean believing and remembering what other people tell us. The real scientist examines facts in order to find out the truth for himself. This is called the scientific method. Let us see how scientists work and what is meant by the scientific method. In these days we hear a lot about science, but scientists, the men and women, who do the work and make the discoveries, seem distant and strange to us. Science often appears to be very difficult, and sometimes even a kind of magic. Certainly we feel we shall never be able to understand how it works. It is difficult of course, but I think we are wrong if we believe that we can not understand it. The important thing about the scientific method is that we get answers to questions by making tests. We do not just guess the answer or believe what anybody tells us. In fact, in simple ways we all use the scientific method every day. We can see from very simple examples that the scientific method is not only for the use of a few people called scientists, but something we can all use with advantage. But patience and hard, careful work are necessary to find out the truth. 28. What does the text mainly talk about? A. The scientific method. B. The science subject. C. The scientific discoveries. D. The real scientists. 29. Which of the following does the author agree with? A. We all understand how science works. B. We are familiar with most scientists. C. We sometimes feel science confusing. D. We know answers by making guesses. 30. Who can use the scientific method? A. The scientists. B. School pupils. C. The Scholars. D. Everyone. 31. What can we learn from the text? A. The scientific method is too difficult to use. B. We can find out the truth from very simple examples. C. Care and diligence is important for the scientific method. D. The scientific method is only for the use of a few people. A 29. C 30. D 31. 根据文章第一段“The real scientist examines facts in order to find out the truth for himself. This is called the scientific method. (真正的科学家研究事实是为了自己发现真理。这被称为科学方法。)”及最后一段“We can see from very simple examples that the scientific method is not only for the use of a few people called scientists, but something we can all use with advantage. (从非常简单的例子中我们可以看出,科学方法不仅仅是供少数科学家使用的,而是我们所有人都可以利用的东西。)”可知,文章围绕“科学方法”展开。故选A项。 根据文章第二段“In these days we hear a lot about science, but scientists, the men and women, who do the work and make the discoveries, seem distant and strange to us. Science often appears to be very difficult, and sometimes even a kind of magic. Certainly we feel we shall never be able to understand how it works. (如今,我们听到了很多关于科学的事情,但是科学家们,从事这项工作并做出发现的男男女女,对我们来说似乎是遥远而陌生的。科学常常显得很困难,有时甚至是一种魔术。当然,我们觉得我们永远无法理解它是如何工作的。)”可知,作者认为,我们有时觉得科学令人困惑。故选C项。 【30题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第二段“We do not just guess the answer or believe what anybody tells us. In fact, in simple ways we all use the scientific method every day. (我们不只是猜测答案或相信任何人告诉我们的。事实上,我们每天都在以简单的方式使用科学方法。)”可知,每个人都可以使用科学方法。故选D项。 31题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章最后一段“But patience and hard, careful work are necessary to find out the truth. (但是,耐心和艰苦细致的工作是找出真相所必需的。)”可知,细心和勤奋对于科学方法是重要的。故选C项。 D Bricks are one of the oldest known building materials, dating back thousands of years. But researchers at Washington University in St. Louis have found a new use lor bricks: as energy storage units. A team of engineers and chemists have found a way to transform an ordinary house brick into a pseudo-battery — allowing it to conduct and store electricity. The bricks are powerful enough to illuminate (点亮) an LED light bulb and cost only about $3 to make. “I love the idea of adding value to things that are inexpensive, things that are affordable, things that we kind of take for granted,” said Julio D’Arcy, an assistant professor of chemistry at Washington University and one of the researchers on this project. The brick battery relies on the reddish pigment (色素) known as iron oxide, or rust, that gives red bricks their color. The scientists pumped the bricks with several gases that react with iron oxide to produce a network of plastic fibers. These microscopic fibers coat the empty spaces inside the bricks—and conduct electricity. “What we’re trying to do is: we’re trying to make specialized plastics that are only used on the nano (纳米) scale — where we use very little of the plastic, and we can actually insert that plastic inside construction materials.” The study is in the journal Nature Communications. In the future, D’Arcy says, a brick wall could potentially serve a double purpose: providing structural support and storing electricity generated from renewable energy sources, such as solar panels. The technology is still at least a few years away from being ready for the commercial market. And right now the energy storage capacity of the bricks is still pretty low — about 1 percent of a lithium battery. But the team is now testing ways to improve brick performance — because it looks like you can teach an old brick new tricks. 32. What appeals to Julio D’Arcy listing bricks as their subjects? A. Their low expense. B. Their common existence. C. Their additional value. D. Their internal composition. 33. What is the last step of making a brick conduct electricity? A. Pump the brick with gases. B. Color the brick red. C. Produce microscopic fibers. D. Cover its inner vacancy with microscopic fibers. 34. What will the future bricks be like according to the passage? A. Construction materials possessing low energy storage capacity. B. Construction materials generating renewable energy resources. C. Construction materials used for electricity storage. D. Construction materials with built-in common plastic. 35. Which word best describes the author’s attitude to the technology? A. Skeptical. B. Objective. C. Critical. D. Opposed. C 33. D 34. C 35. 根据第二段的““I love the idea of adding value to things that are inexpensive, things that are affordable, things that we kind of take for granted,” said Julio D’Arcy, an assistant professor of chemistry at Washington University and one of the researchers on this project. (“我喜欢在那些不贵、我们认为理所当然的事物上增加价值的想法,”朱利奥·达西说,他是华盛顿大学化学系的助理教授,也是这个项目的研究人员之一。)”可知,Julio D’Arcy认为w他喜欢在不贵却被人们认为理所当然的事物上增加附加价值。故选C。 【33题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段内容可知,本段介绍了使砖头导电的步骤。根据最后一句“These microscopic fibers coat the empty spaces inside the bricks—and conduct electricity. (这些微小的纤维覆盖了砖块内部的空间,并导电。)”可知,导电的最后一步是显微纤维覆盖砖块内部的空间。故选D。 【34题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段的“In the future, D’Arcy says, a brick wall could potentially serve a double purpose: providing structural support and storing electricity generated from renewable energy sources, such as solar panels. (达西说,未来砖墙可能具有双重用途:提供结构支撑,并储存来自可再生能源(如太阳能板)产生的电能。)”可知,未来的砖块可以是有电力贮存功能的建筑材料。故选C。 【35题详解】 推理判断题。总览全文,第一至五段作者是从客观角度介绍这项新技术及其研发人员的态度。最后一段前两句“The technology is still at least a few years away from being ready for the commercial market. And right now the energy storage capacity of the bricks is still pretty low—about 1 percent of a lithium battery. (这项技术至少还需要几年时间才能准备好进入商用阶段。目前砖块的储能能力还相当低——大约只有锂电池的1%。)”也提到了它当前的局限性。所以作者态度上是客观的。故选B。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 I’ve dealt with a fair share of negative (消极的) people in my life. Here, I’ll share with you several tips on dealing with negative people in your life. One of the most important things I learned is not to debate with a negative person. A negative person likely has very firm views and isn’t going to change that. Just because of what you said. ____36____ The discussion will just turn into more negativity, and you pull yourself down in the process. You can give helpful comments and if the person argues with no signs of backing down, don’t go further. Some people complain as a way of crying for help. They may not be conscious (意识到) of it, though. ____37____ Take the responsibility to lend a helping hand. Just a simple “Are you okay?” or “Is there anything I can do to help you” can do wonders. Some negative people start for certain topics. ____38____ Simple things like new movies, daily occurrences, common friends, make for light conversation. Keep it to areas the person feels positive towards. One way to help the negative person “get it” is to ignore the negative comments. If he/she goes into a negative state, ignore it or give a simple “I see” or “OK” reply. On the other hand, when he/she is being positive, reply in affirmation (肯定) and enthusiasm. ____39____ He/she will adjust to be more positive accordingly. ____40____ If it’s a good friend, let him/her know of the seriousness of the problem and work it out where possible. It’s not healthy to spend too much time with people who drain (消耗) you. Your time is valuable, so spend it with people who have positive effects on you. A. Negative people aren’t just negative to others. B. Then you can bring in a new topic to lighten the atmosphere. C. Learn to see the goodness of the person rather than the negative. D. Do this often and soon he/she will know positivity pays off. E. Their comments come across as complaints rather than requests. F. If all else falls, reduce connection with them or avoid them altogether. G. Whatever you say, they can find different reasons to back up their viewpoint. G 37. E 38. B 39. D 40. 【36题详解】 由上文“One of the most important things I learned is not to debate with a negative person. A negative person likely has very firm views and isn’t going to change that. (我学到的最重要的事情之一就是不要和消极的人争论。一个消极的人可能有非常坚定的观点,并且不会改变这一点)”可知,作者建议不要和消极的人争论,因为他们观点坚定,不管你说什么,他们都会找理由来维护自己的观点,承接上文,G选项“无论你说什么,他们都可以找到不同的理由来支持他们的观点。”切题。故选G项。 【37题详解】 由上文“Some people complain as a way of crying for help. They may not be conscious (意识到) of it, though. (有些消极的人抱怨是为了呼救。不过,他们可能没有意识到这一点)”可知,消极的人充满负能量,但因为他们思想消极,本是呼救的信息听起来不像请求而像抱怨,承接上文,E选项“他们的意见听起来更像抱怨而不是请求。”切题。故选E项。 【38题详解】 由上文“Some negative people start for certain topics. (一些消极的人开始谈论某些话题)”和下文“Simple things like new movies, daily occurrences, common friends, make for light conversation. (像新电影、日常事件、普通朋友这样的简单事情可以让你轻松交谈)”可知,当开始新话题时,可以像下文一样用简单的事情引入新话题,让交谈轻松,承接上下文,B选项“然后你可以引入一个新的话题来缓和气氛。”切题。故选B项。 【39题详解】 由上文“If he/she goes into a negative state, ignore it or give a simple “I see” or “OK” reply. On the other hand, when he/she is being positive, reply in affirmation (肯定) and enthusiasm. (如果他/她处于消极状态,忽略它,或者简单地回答“我明白了”或“好”。另一方面,当他/她是积极的,回答要肯定和富有热情)”和下文“He/she will adjust to be more positive accordingly. (他/她会相应地做出调整,变得更加积极)”可知,D选项“经常这样做,他/她很快就会知道积极是有回报的。”承接上文讲“忽略消极的人的评论的方法”,承接下文讲“经常这样做的好处”。故选D项。 【40题详解】 由下文“If it’s a good friend, let him/her know of the seriousness of the problem and work it out where possible. It’s not healthy to spend too much time with people who drain (消耗) you. In July, a two-minute-long video began spreading on the Internet. I ordered it as a Mother’s Day gift in advance; however, the product arrived long after Mother’s day has passed, causing great inconvenience as I couldn’t present the gift to my mother on that very day. So I’m extremely disappointed with the slow delivery. Furthermore, the product I received is different from what was advertised. It lacks the promised features and functions, which makes it a poor choice as a gift. Therefore, I would like a full refund and I hope that future orders can be delivered promptly to avoid similar  inconvenience. I hope you’ll take my complaints seriously. I look forward to hearing from you soon. 词汇积累 礼物:gift→present 提前: in advance→ahead of time 此外:furthermore→moreover 因此:therefore→thus 2. I ordered it as a Mother’s Day gift in advance. I ordered it as a Mother’s Day gift in advance, which will give my mother a surprise. 1】Furthermore, the product I received is different from what was advertised. 2】It lacks the promised features and functions, which makes it a poor choice as a gift. A Gift of Gold It was the winter of 1937, just after Christmas. The Depression (大萧条时期) was still going on, but I was in good spirits. I was going to graduate from elementary school, but my mother still dressed me in shorts. Most of my classmates had given up wearing shorts. For the graduation ceremony, all the boys were expected to dress white shirts and dark-blue wool pants. I waited until a week before I told my mother. On a cold Monday afternoon I went home from school. “Mom,” I said, about graduation…” “Yes?” she answered. “They are going to give me the first-prize medal,” I said. Still working over the stove, she looked over her shoulder at me and smiled broadly. “That’s wonderful, Babe. Dad and I will both be there, and we’ll be the proudest in the place.” She must have seen by the look on my face that something was wrong. She turned her back and said, “So?” “So, I have to get long pants,” I said. “Babe, we don’t have the money for new pants right now,” she said. “Okay,” I burst out. “Then I won’t go to graduation. Plus, I’m running away from home!” “If I were you, I wouldn’t pack my bags. We’ll solve the pants problem somehow,” she said. The following Saturday, when my mother said, “Let’s go shopping,” I knew that she had solved the problem. Then we left home. We took the trolley (有轨电车) and got off at Southern Boulevard, the best shopping street. Our clothing store was just a couple of blocks away. But first we walked a short way down the Boulevard and stopped at a place I had never noticed before. “Wait here,” she said. Then she opened the door with the hand with a gold wedding ring on her ring finger and entered a storefront (店面) that looked like a bank. She went out about ten minutes later with a purse in her left hand and then we went to the pants store. I chose a pair of pants. After a patient bargain with the seller, my mother bought it at the price of three dollars and fifty cents and handed it to me. I was holding the pants tightly under my arm when my mother went to pay the money. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ We took the trolley back home. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: I was holding the pants tightly under my arm when my mother went to pay the money. I saw her take a tiny brown envelope from her purse, tear the sealed envelope open and remove the contents. There were four brand-new one-dollar bills inside. She carefully unfolded them and handed them to the seller. The seller gave my mother the fifty cents change. Feeling greatly curious, how did she manage to get such a large sum of money? Maybe my parents found new jobs with a higher salary. We took the trolley back home. Sitting next to my mother on the trolley, I had the window seat and looked out. I even imagined Father had come home early and prepared a wonderful meal. About halfway home, I glanced down at my mother's hands folded across her purse, which was resting on her lap. It was then that I saw the gold wedding ring that had always encircled her ring finger on her left hand was no longer there. Deeply moved by what my mum had done, I truly understood everything and embraced my mum tightly, with tears rolling down. 词汇激活 行为类 ①拿着信封:take the envelope /hold the envelope ②给:give/offer ③看到,发现:glance /spot/find 情绪类 ①好奇的:feel a great sense of curiosity/curiously ②感动的:deeply moved/a flush of touch 【点睛】[高分句型1]. A. a sports club newsletter B. a science documentary C. a news website D. a travel magazine B For Cruz, who grew up in Peru’s mountainous region of Cuzco, fog represents a massive opportunity. Fog Catchers: A Local Solution with Global Potential C Many pupils in school think of science as just another subject on the time-table containing more facts to be learned. D Bricks are one of the oldest known building materials, dating back thousands of years. D Construction materials with built-in common plastic. 35. Which word best describes the author’s attitude to the technology? A. Skeptical. B. Objective. C. Critical. D. Opposed. I’ve dealt with a fair share of negative (消极的) people in my life. In July, a two-minute-long video began spreading on the Internet. “Okay” I burst out. “Then I won’t go to graduation. Plus, I’m running away from home!” “If I were you I wouldn’t pack my bags. She went out about ten minutes later with a purse in her left hand, and then we went to the pants store. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $英语试卷第一部分听力做题时,先将答案标在试卷上,录音内容结束后,你将有两分钟的时间将试卷上的答案转涂到答题卡上。 Hi, Stewart.
