After walking around the streets for hours, she got very hungry. Just then, she found a noodle shop. How much she wished for a bowl of noodles! But she had no money!
The owner of the shop saw her and said, “Hi little girl, you want a bowl of noodles?” The little girl just shook her head and shyly replied, “I do not have any money.”
“I’ll treat you,” said the owner. A few minutes later, the owner brought her a large bowl of noodles.
After eating the noodles, she started to cry.
“What’s the matter?” asked the owner.
“Your kindness touched my heart!” the girl said. “I can’t believe that. Even a stranger gave me a bowl of noodles. But my mother...”
The owner said, “I gave you a simple bowl of noodles and you were happy. Your mother has taken care of you, fed you, clothed you, and loved you since you were born.”
After hearing this, the girl went home quickly. At the door, she saw her mother full of worry. Seeing her, her mother gently said, “Honey, you must be hungry. I have prepared dinner for you...”

The words “protect animals” appear everywhere in books and on screens. But sometimes the facts can be a little different from what people read.
Florida, US, is holding its first bear hunt in more than twenty years. People were allowed to kill nearly 4,000 black bears by the local government. And more than 200 were killed on Oct 24. Animal protection groups were against this decision. But local officers explained that the black bear population had grown to 3,500 and become a safety threat to local people. In the past two years, bears have hurt at least four people in Florida.
An old question draws people’s attention again-which is more important, protecting animals or protecting people’s interests? This question is asked in other countries too. In Switzerland, a wolf was killed by the Swiss government months ago. This is because the wolf killed 38 sheep and local people lost a lot of money. Days ago in China, three old men were arrested (逮捕) for killing a serow (鬣羚), a kind of protected animal. But they announced they didn’t know about this and killed the animal because it ruined their crops
However, these stories don’t always mean that animal protection will stop due to human interests, especially doing harm to the social development. A man named Zhou Weisen set up a wild animal base in Guilin, Guangxi. He saved over 170 tigers and 300 bears. But his base also offered jobs to local people. “There may never be a standard answer to the question of whether we should give more attention to the environment or human development,” said Robert May, a British expert at Oxford University. “But we shouldn’t push either one to the side, as the problem is still unsolved.”
32. How many black bears were killed in Florida in one day?
A. Nearly 4,000. B. Over 200. C. Up to 3,500.
33. What does the word “threat” in this passage probably mean?
A. A situation that may harm others. B. A trouble that people make. C. A protection that the government sets up.
34. Which of the following picture is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Protecting animals mentioned in the book is the same as the facts that happened in the real world.
B. A wolf in Switzerland was forced to die because it killed 38 sheep and made people lose money.
C. The examples in Para.3 tell us that we should stop animal protection at once.
35. What does the word “this” refer to (指代)?
A. A serow costs a lot of money. B. A serow is a kind of protected animal. C. A serow ruined their crops.
36. What can we infer (推断) from this passage?
A. Social development is more important than animal protection.
B. Zhou Weisen set up a wild animal base to save animals and gave people jobs.
C. People still can’t solve the problems between protecting animals and protecting people’s interests.

What lies under the sea? Strange animals and plants, shipwrecks (沉船) and more. But is it possible that there might be a whole underwater island with homes, palaces and temples? Some people believe that would be Atlantis
Atlantis is believed to be an island in the Atlantic Ocean (大西洋) more than 11,000 years ago. There, people lived very wealthy lives. They built large houses which are mostly made of gold. They used crystals (水晶) to get energy from the sun, moon and stars to produce power. Their brains were so developed that they could understand what animals were saying.
The story of Atlantis was first told by Plato (柏拉图) in about 360 BC. According to Plato, the people of Atlantis didn’t satisfied with what they had, so the gods got mad at them. In 9400 BC, the gods created great fires and earthquakes that caused Atlantis to disappear in the sea. This old place is also said to have developed high technology that modern society has yet to discover. There are no other historical records of Atlantis. However, some people believe it really did appear once.
Whether these findings are true or not, one thing is for sure: the mystery of this island has continued to interest many people around the world.

Dragon Head-Raising Day is a traditional festival in China. It falls on the second day of the second lunar month. A long time ago, people often laid ashes (灰) on the way to kitchens and around water vats (缸) so that they can lead the dragon into the house.
Now people are eating noodles and dumplings on this day. All the day’s foods are named after dragons. For example, people eat “dragon whisker (龙须)” noodles and dumplings are called “dragon teeth”.
In some old Chinese stories, dragons are in control of the wind and rain. It is said that after that day there will be more and more rain. This is why the day is often called “Spring Dragon Day”. It was hoped that with the help of the dragon, plowing (耕种) would be easier and the autumn would bring a better harvest (收获).
It was also believed that a haircut during the first lunar month always make uncles in a family die. In fact, haircuts have nothing to do with one’s uncles. The tradition might start during the early years of the Qing Dynasty (朝代). At the time, as new rulers, the Manchu people asked the Han people to cut their hair in the Manchu style. Many Han people refused to do that. They decided not to cut their hair during the first lunar month, saying it was to “memorize the last dynasty”, or in Chinese, “Sijiu”. Since “Sijiu” sounds very similar to “dead uncle”, this is why you still see many people get their hair cut on Dragon Head-Raising Day.

It was hoped that with the help of the dragon, plowing would be easier and the autumn would bring a better harvest.”
根据最后一段“At the time, as new rulers, the Manchu people asked the Han people to cut their hair in the Manchu style. Many Han people refused to do that. They decided not to cut their hair during the first lunar month, saying it was to ‘memorize the last dynasty’, or in Chinese, ‘Sijiu’.”
根据最后一段“It was also believed that a haircut during the first lunar month always make uncles in a family die. In fact, haircuts have nothing to do with one’s uncles.”和“Since ‘Sijiu’ sounds very similar to ‘dead uncle’, this is why you still see many people get their hair cut on Dragon Head-Raising Day.”

They gave me a lot of help, which made me make great progress in my study. In my spare time, I joined the school football club and I often scored in football matches.
