B In our fast-paced world, taking care of ourselves, or “self-care,” is a popular idea. A teacher from Italy, Michela Luciani, says it’s about being healthy and stopping sickness. But businesses and people with lots of followers online have started using this idea to sell things, which might be making us feel more alone. On places like Instagram and YouTube, we see lots of ads for self-care stuff, like creams for your skin and products to make your hair grow. People who are famous online make videos showing how they take care of themselves every day. By 2022, there was a huge market for this kind of stuff worth lots of money, seemingly helping consumers buy peace but actually being a cheat. Buying things for self-care might make you happy for a little while, but it doesn’t fix the bigger problems with how you feel inside. It can make you depend on these products and compare yourself to others in not-so-good ways. This can make you feel lonely because it keeps you away from other people, like the psychologist Maytal Eyal says. Why do we like this kind of self-care that’s all about buying things? Eyal thinks it’s mainly because we live in a world that values being on our own. It’s not cool to ask for help, but being able to do everything by yourself is seen as great. When we hear that we’re the only ones who can make ourselves happy, we think we have to do it all by ourselves. Wanting everything to be perfect also makes us buy more self-care things, and social media makes this worse. But real self-care is about being with other people. Eyal says that taking care of ourselves and also caring about others is what true self-care is all about. It’s about finding a balance between the two. 4. What does Michela Luciani say self-care is about? A. Getting things to unwind. B. Keeping fit and stopping sickness. C. Spending money to feel good. D. Concentrating on growing personally. 5. How is the growth of the global wellness market by 2022 talked about? A. As a true method to help people stay well. B. As a way to make people ask for help. C. As a cheat to let consumers buy their way to calm. D. As a path to promote real self-care. 6. What does Maytal Eyal say consumerist self-care results in? A. More links with other people. B. Feeling alone. C. A perfect existence. D. A harmony between self and others. 7. What does the text say is the main reason people are attracted to consumerist self-care? A. The requirement for costly “fixes”. B. The effect of social media. C. The desire for being perfect. D. The idea of being on your own. C This summer vacation, I took part in the final of the 4th Stories of China Retold in English Challenge in Beijing. Reflecting on my six months of preparation and the speech contest itself, I found this activity to be both demanding (要求高的) and meaningful. Several months ago, my English teacher, Mr. Lu, introduced the contest to us in class, saying that it is a great opportunity to let more foreign friends know about the real China. Suddenly, a sense of excitement washed over me, and I couldn’t wait to participate. For my speech, I chose stories and people that reflect Chinese values like unity and patriotism (爱国主义), which resonate (引起共鸣) with people across the globe. I highlighted the touching story of ordinary people helping each other during a blizzard (暴风雪) at the time of China’s annual Spring Festival travel rush in 2024 to show the strength of unity. I also shared the extraordinary (非凡的) journey home of scientist Qian Xuesen to reflect patriotism. But my journey to glory wasn’t smooth sailing, and I faced my fair share of problems. The first was overcoming my fear of public speaking. To help me with this Mr Lu encouraged me to take the stage in his class for mini-presentations, and he also suggested watching videos of native English speakers so that I could imitate (模仿) their intonation (语调) and pronunciation. Another challenge was learning how to answer questions on the spot, which requires a clear understanding of the question, quick thinking and correct responses. During the final, I misinterpreted (误解) a question, and my answer missed the point. I guess I still have a long way to go in this regard. Despite all these challenges, I treasure this activity greatly as it allowed me to use English to introduce China to the world. When I held up the Good Storyteller prize alongside the other finalists, I knew my hard work had been worth it. 8. What did Mr. Lu suggest the author do to overcome the fear of public speaking? A. Read more English stories aloud and turn to teachers for help. B. Take the stage in class for mini-presentations and watch videos of native English speakers. C. Write down the speech content many times and read after class by himself. D. Practice speaking with classmates every day and write some passage. 9. From the text, we can infer that the author’s performance in answering on-the-spot questions during the final was probably ______. A. just so-so because of the misinterpretation of a question B. excellent and got high praise from the judges and audience C. completely failed and led to disqualification D. not mentioned in detail about the judges’ feedback 10. Why did the author think the activity was meaningful? A. Because it made the author become famous and popular among the students . B. Because the author won a lot of prizes. C. Because it allowed the author to introduce China to the world in English. D. Because the author made many new friends. 11. What is the main idea of this passage? A. The author’s experience of winning the 4th Stories of China Retold in English Challenge and how it changed his life. B. The difficulties the author encountered during the 4th Stories of China Retold in English Challenge and the solutions to them. C. The author’s participation in the 4th Stories of China Retold in English Challenge, including the preparation, challenges faced and the significance of the activity. D. The importance of learning English for telling Chinese stories and how to improve English speaking skills. D Space engineers from the University of Glasgow have published new research showing how reflectors (反射器) placed in orbit around Earth could increase the output of future large-scale solar farms by reflecting additional sunlight toward them even after the sun has set. In their paper, the researchers described how they used advanced computer models to help determine the most effective method of using orbiting solar reflectors to produce additional power. Their models showed that putting 20 thin reflectors into orbit 1,000 kilometers from Earth could reflect sunlight to solar farms for an extra two hours each day on average. The additional sunlight could increase the output of the world’s future solar farms, particularly after sunset when electricity demand is high. The output could be scaled up further by adding more reflectors or increasing their size. The team developed an algorithm (算法) to determine how the reflectors could be arranged to catch the sun’s rays most effectively, maximizing the additional sunlight reflected to solar farms around Earth in the early morning and late evening. The researchers suggested that 20 reflectors could produce an extra 728 MWh of electricity per day — equal to adding an additional large solar power farm to Earth without the cost of construction. Dr. Onur Çelik, one author of the paper, said, “Solar power has the potential to speed our race to reach net-zero, helping us to relieve the global impacts of climate change by reducing our reliance on fossil fuels.”Moreover, the price of solar panels (太阳能电池板) has dropped quickly in recent years, increasing the pace of their adoption and paving the way for the creation of large solar farms around the world. One of the major limitations of solar power, of course, is that it can only be generated during daylight hours. Putting orbiting solar reflectors in space would help to maximize the effectiveness of solar farms in the years to come. Strategically placing new solar farms in locations which receive the most additional sunlight from the reflectors could make them even more effective. 12. What is the purpose of placing reflectors in space? A. To improve communication between Earth and space. B. To bring the effects of climate change under control. C. To produce electricity for agricultural use. D. To increase the production of solar power. 13. What may contribute to the application of large-scale solar farms? A. The increased demand for electricity. B. The decrease in the cost of solar panels. C. The development of space technology. D. The requirement to preserve the environment. 14. What can be inferred about the future of solar farms? A. They’ll replace fossil fuels completely. B. They’ll become the main source of energy. C. They’ll be more cost-effective and efficient. D They’ll rely mainly on orbiting reflectors for sunlight. 15. Where is the text most probably taken from? A. A news report. B. A maths website. C. A marketing brochure. D. A policy brief. 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。 Everyone wants to make an existing friendship stronger. There were three kids talking and laughing happily as they took turns riding a scooter(滑板车)on the quiet street. 11-year-old Dale had just jumped off the scooter as his neighbors Zoe, age 7, claimed her turn, and Julie, 9, looked on. Ten minutes later, Zoe sat down on the scooter to catch her breath. That was when a bearded man with a head of messy hair appeared. Without saying a word, the man picked Zoe up off the scooter and calmly stepped away. The guy held Zoe gently like a baby and just walked down the street. In fact, the calm way the man behaved led Dale to believe that he must be a relative of Zoe’s. But something wasn’t right. “I could see Zoe’s face,” Dale said. “She was afraid.” As the man walked on, Zoe’s fear transformed into weeps, and then she cried for help. She began kicking and moving, trying to get free of the man’s control. “What are you doing?” Julie shouted But the man, undisturbed, just walked on until he reached an alley(小巷)and disappeared. Dale was frightened, yet he never thought about the danger to himself. The only thing he wanted to do was to get Zoe back. But what was a 4-foot-tall kid going to do to stop a grown man? “I wanted to help but I couldn’t do it myself,” he thought to himself. “Tell Zoe’s parents, Julie!” He shouted as he started running towards the alley. Zoe’s parents were relaxing on the sofa in their living room when their front door burst open. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: “A bad grown man just took Zoe away!” yelled Julie. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: At that very moment, Zoe’s parents arrived. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 赤峰红旗中学高一年级上学期第三次考试 高一年级英语试卷 第一部分:听力(共两节,满分 30 分) 第一节 听下面 5 段对话。每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的 A、B、C 三个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段对话后,你都有 10 秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段对话仅读一遍。 1. 【答案】4. B 5. C 6. B 7. To help me with this, Mr Lu encouraged me to take the stage in his class for mini-presentations, and he also suggested watching videos of native English speakers so that I could imitate (模仿) their intonation (语调) and pronunciation. D Practice speaking with classmates every day and write some passage. 9. From the text, we can infer that the author’s performance in answering on-the-spot questions during the final was probably ______. A. just so-so because of the misinterpretation of a question B excellent and got high praise from the judges and audience C. completely failed and led to disqualification D. not mentioned in detail about the judges’ feedback 10. 【答案】8. B 9. A 10. C 11. D. They’ll rely mainly on orbiting reflectors for sunlight. 15. Where is the text most probably taken from? A. A news report. B. A maths website. C. A marketing brochure. D. A policy brief. 【答案】12. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph 1: “A bad grown man just took Zoe away!” yelled Julie. Learning what had happened, Zoe’s parents phoned the police without delay. The next moment, they jumped into their car and drove off directed by Julie. By then Dale had reached the alley, but the man was nowhere to be seen. “I must find Zoe,” Dale said to himself. He ran along the alley to the end, where he spotted the man walking towards a white house. “Stop! Stop!” With these words, he charged at the guy fearlessly. Paragraph 2: At that very moment, Zoe’s parents arrived. “Help! Help!” Dale shouted. Immediately Zoe’s father took off towards the guy. Seeing this, the guy hurriedly let go of Zoe and broke into a run. Zoe’s father dashed up, caught hold of him and pressed him to the ground Zoe ran crying into her mother’s arms. Minutes later, the police arrived and arrested the guy. Dale breathed a sigh of relief. Dale’s quick thinking and bravery saved a little girl. 词类激活 行为类 ①大喊:shout/yell ②指导,带领:direct/guide/lead ③发现:see/spot/notice/witness ④到达:arrive/reach/get to 情绪类 ①大胆地: fearlessly/courageously 【点睛】[高分句型1]Learning what had happened, Zoe’s parents phoned the police without delay.
