Teams of 6 to 10 people spent 22 days sailing the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea to the finish line, in Genoa, Italy. That’s where the race ended, on June 19, 2021. Two classes of speedy sailboats raced in the event: the IMOCA and the VO65. Offshore Team Germany won the IMOCA class race. And Portugal’s Mirpuri Foundation Racing Team won the VO65 class. The Ocean Race Europe presented plenty of challenges. Teams were on their boats for three straight weeks. When you were on board, all you do was race, eat, and sleep. There was no Internet connection and there were no movies. There wasn’t even a fridge or a freezer inside the boat. The Ocean Race Europe has a larger purpose. During the race, the boats collected scientific data from the salty waters. The data is shared with scientists. It provides insight about how the ocean is affected by climate change. Scientists use the data to further understand and advocate the world’s changing environment and seas. A Henry Raeburn (1756-1823) The Exhibition This exhibition of some sixty masterpieces celebrating the life and work of Scotland’s best loved painter, Sir Henry Raeburn, comes to London. Children under 12 years accompanied by an adult are admitted free.(4英镑。12岁以下儿童在一位成人陪同下免费入场)”可知,一对夫妇应付4+4=8英镑,两个12岁以下的儿童在成人陪同下免费,即入场费为8英镑。故选B项。 【23题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段“A special low entrance charge of £2 per person is available to all in full-time education, up to and including those at first degree level, in organised groups with teachers.(所有全日制教育的学生,高至并包括那些学士学位水平的学生,在有教师的组织团体中,均可享受每人2英镑的特别低入场费)”可知,全日制学生在有教师的组织团体中,可以获得折扣,即他们必须由教师带领。故选C项。 B We were seven hours past sun-up, but you never would have known that on Thursday afternoon as the roosters-adult male chickens began to crow. The noise started just after 2 p. m. and by the time it stopped, the dozen or so roosters would stretch open their mouths, extend their necks and cry out more than 100 times collectively in this event, which is one of the oldest contests at the Kentucky State Fair. Kentuckians, young and old, bring their roosters to the fair to see who can crow the most in a 15-minute stretch. The winning rooster’s owner takes home a bag of chicken feed. It was about half an hour until the crow-off began when I settled into a seat across from a small stage full of cages. That’s where I met John Ball, the fair’s crowing organizer, who talked excitedly about the whole affair to come. “The only real rules are you have to bring a rooster and that you can’t egg it on during its 15 minutes in the spotlight,” he said. I wondered how a rooster was trained to crow in the afternoon, and fortunately, nine-year-old Ben Miller had some insight to share. When I introduced myself to him, he was already covering his rooster’s eyes gently with his hand. “Now, it thinks it’s dark,” Ben told me. Part of the trick was to make his rooster believe the sun hadn’t risen yet. That way, it would be ready to cry out as soon as it saw the light. As I looked around, I saw that a few other roosters had joined us. One by one they were placed in the cages in front of the audience. The crowing continued for the full 15 minutes. After Ball’s timer went off, Sam Lamb, 15, and his rooster won the contest. It’d crowed 37 times, just a little more than half of the 67 crows from a few years before. 24. What can we say about the contest? A. It centers around six roosters. B. It lasts for a total of half an hour. C. It is organized on a weekend afternoon. D. It is a tradition at the Kentucky State Fair. 25. What did John mean by saying “you can’t egg it on” in paragraph 2? A. You can’t leave it on an egg. B. You can’t motivate it to crow. C. You can’t stop it from crowing. D. You can’t interrupt it with an egg. 26. What was Ben’s trick with his rooster? A. He made it confused about the time. B. He showed it some chicken feed. C. He trained it to react to the timer. D. He left it alone in a dark room. 27. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. The science behind rooster crowing B. The history of the Kentucky State Fair C. An occasion where roosters take center stage D. A day when John Ball shows up in a contest. D 25. B 26. A 27. 根据第一段中“The noise started just after 2 p. m. and by the time it stopped, the dozen or so roosters would stretch open their mouths, extend their necks and cry out more than 100 times collectively in this event, which is one of the oldest contests at the Kentucky State Fair.(下午2点刚过,动静就开始了,到停止时,十几只公鸡会张开嘴,伸长脖子,在这项比赛中集体鸣叫100多次,这是肯塔基州博览会上最古老的比赛之一)”可知,这是肯塔基州博览会上最古老的比赛之一。 根据第一段中“Kentuckians, young and old, bring their roosters to the fair to see who can crow the most in a 15-minute stretch.(肯塔基人,无论老少,都会把公鸡带到集市上,看看谁能在15分钟内啼叫得最多)”及第二段短语所在句“The only real rules are you have to bring a rooster and that you can’t egg it on during its 15 minutes in the spotlight,(唯一真正的规则是,你必须带一只公鸡,而且在众目睽睽下15分钟内,你不能egg it on)”可知,这里是比赛组织者John Ball在给作者说明比赛规则,由第一段的描述来看,鸣叫应是公鸡的自发行为,所以该短语的意思应指人不可以刺激、怂恿鸡发出鸣叫。 根据第三段中“When I introduced myself to him, he was already covering his rooster’s eyes gently with his hand.(当我向他介绍自己时,他已经用手轻轻地遮住了公鸡的眼睛)”及“Part of the trick was to make his rooster believe the sun hadn’t risen yet. That way, it would be ready to cry out as soon as it saw the light.(技巧的一部分是让他的公鸡相信太阳还没有升起。这样,它一看到光就准备好打鸣了)”可知,Ben的策略是用手捂住鸡的眼睛,使其误以为太阳还没升起,从而达到混淆时间的目的。故选A。 C。 C Animals can express their needs using a lot of ways. For instance, almost all animals have distinct vocals (声音) that they rely on to either ask for help, scare away any dangerous animals or look for shelter. But cats are special creatures who possess amazing vocalization skills. They are able to have entire conversations with humans using meows and you're able to interpret it. If a pet cat is hungry, it will keep meowing to attract attention and find food. However, when a cat is looking for affection, they tend to produce stretched and soft meows. Meowing starts as soon as a baby cat is brought to life and uses it to get the mother's attention and be fed. Cats have many heightened senses, but their sense of smell is quite impressive. They use their noses to assess their environment and look out for any signs of danger. They will sniff out specific areas before they choose a place to relax. However, another way the cats are able to distinguish between situations is by looking for familiar smells. Your cat will likely smell your face and store the smell in its memory and use it to recognize you in the future. That's why most pet cats are able to tell immediately if their owners were around any other cats, which they don't usually like. Dogs are known for their impressive fetching habit, but cats take this behavior up a notch. Many cats will find random objects outside and bring them to their owners. This is a very old habit that's been present in all kinds of predators Cats bring gifts for their owners to show they love you. These adorable little hunters are just doing something that it's been in their nature since the beginning of time. So just go along with it! 28. What can be learned about cats' meowing from the first paragraph? A. It's a survival skill. B. It's taught by mother cats. C. It's hard to interpret. D. It's getting louder with age. 29. How does a pet cat assess different situations? A. By listening for sounds. B. By touching familiar objects. C. By checking on smells. D. By communicating with other cats. 30. Which best explains the phrase "take. . . up notch" in paragraph 3? A. Perform appropriately. B. Move faster. C. Act strangely. D. Do better. 31. What is a suitable title for the text? A. Tips on Finding a Smart Cat B. Understanding Your Cat's Behavior C. Have Fun with Your Cat D. How to Keep Your Cat Healthy 【答案】28. A 29. C 30. D 31. 根据第一段“Animals can express their needs using a lot of ways. For instance, almost all animals have distinct vocals (声音) that they rely on to either ask for help, scare away any dangerous animals or look for shelter. (动物可以用很多方式来表达他们的需求。例如,几乎所有的动物都有独特的声音,它们依靠这些声音来寻求帮助,吓跑危险的动物或寻找庇护。)”和“Meowing starts as soon as a baby cat is brought to life and uses it to get the mother’s attention and be fed. (猫宝宝一出生就开始喵喵叫,喵喵叫是为了引起妈妈的注意和被喂食。)”可知,猫叫声是一种生存技能。故选A。 根据第二段“Cats have many heightened senses, but their sense of smell is quite impressive. They use their noses to assess their environment and look out for any signs of danger. (猫有许多敏锐的感官,但它们的嗅觉令人印象深刻。它们用鼻子来评估周围的环境,寻找任何危险的迹象。)”可知,宠物猫通过检查气味来评估不同情况。故选C。 【30题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第三段划线词前半句“Dogs are known for their impressive fetching habit,  (狗以其令人印象深刻的抓取习惯而闻名)”和后句“Many cats will find random objects outside and bring them to their owners. (许多猫会在外面随意找到一些东西,并把它们带给主人。)”可知,狗以取回东西而闻名,但猫可以从外边找到东西带回来,因此在这一行为上更上一层楼。短语take ... up a notch是用来形容猫在带回东西这一行为上做得更好或更出色。故选D。 【31题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“Animals can express their needs using a lot of ways.( 动物可以用很多方式来表达他们的需求。)” B。 D The Saint Lukas train doesn’t accept passengers — it accepts only the sick. The Saint Lukas is one of five government-sponsored medical trains that travel to remote towns in central and eastern Russia. Each stop lasts an average of two days, and during that time the doctors and nurses on board provide rural (乡村) populations with basic medical care, X-ray scans and prescriptions. “People started queuing to make an appointment early in the morning,” says Emile Ducke, a German photographer who traveled with the staff of the Saint Lukas for a two-week trip in November through the vast regions (区域) of Krasnoyarsk and Khakassia. Russia’s public health care service has been in serious need of modernization. The government has struggled to come up with measures to address the problem, particularly in the poorer, rural areas east of the Volga River, including arranging doctor’s appointments by video chat and expanding financial aid programs to motivate doctors to practice medicine in remote parts of the country like Krasnoyarsk. The annual arrival of the Saint Lukas is another attempt to improve the situation. For 10 months every year the train stops at about eight stations over two weeks, before returning to the regional capital to refuel and restock (补给). Then it starts all over again the next month. Most stations wait about a year between visits. Doctors see up to 150 patients every day. The train’s equipment allows for basic checkups. “I was very impressed by the doctors and their assistants working and living in such little space but still staying focused and very concerned,” says Ducke. “They were the best chance for many rural people to get the treatment they want. ” 32. How is the Saint Lukas different from other trains? A. It runs across countries. B. It reserves seats for the seniors. C. It functions as a hospital. D. It travels along a river. 33. What can we infer from paragraph 3 about Krasnoyarsk? A. It is heavily populated. B. It offers training for doctors. C. It is a modern city. D. It needs medical aid. 34. How long can the Saint Lukas work with one supply? A. About a year. B. About ten months. C. About two months. D. About two weeks. 35. What is Ducke’s attitude toward the Saint Lukas’ services? A. Appreciative. B. Doubtful C. Ambiguous. D. Cautious. C 33. D 34. D 35. 【32题详解】 细节理解题,根据文章第一段“The Saint Lukas is one of five government-sponsored medical trains that travel to remote towns in central and eastern Russia. Each stop lasts an average of two days, and during that time the doctors and nurses on board provide rural(乡村)populations with basic medical care, X-ray scans and prescriptions. (圣卢卡斯号是五列政府资助的医疗列车之一,前往俄罗斯中部和东部的偏远城镇。每一站平均停留两天,在此期间,船上的医生和护士为农村人口提供基本医疗服务、X光扫描和处方。)”可知,圣卢卡斯号与其他火车的不同之处在于它是政府资助的医疗火车,充当医院。故选C。 【33题详解】 推理判断题,第三段提到“Russia’s public health care service has been in serious need of modernization. The government has struggled to come up with measures to address the problem, particularly in the poorer, rural areas east of the Volga River, including arranging doctor's appointments by video chat and expanding financial aid programs to motivate doctors to practice medicine in remote parts of the country like Krasnoyarsk. (俄罗斯的公共卫生保健服务迫切需要现代化。政府一直在努力提出解决这一问题的措施,特别是在伏尔加河以东较贫穷的农村地区,包括通过视频聊天安排医生预约,扩大财政援助计划,激励医生到克拉斯诺亚尔斯克等偏远地区行医。) ”可以推断,Krasnoyarsk需要医疗援助,故选D。 【34题详解】 细节理解题,根据第四段“For 10 months every year, the train stops at about eight stations over two weeks, before returning to the regional capital to refuel and restock (补给). ”(每年有10个月,火车在两周内停靠大约八个车站,然后返回地区首府进行补给和重新装货。) ”可知,圣卢卡斯号一份补给可以工作大约两周,故选D。 【35题详解】 推断判断题。根据最后一段的““I was very impressed by the doctors and their assistants working and living in such little space but still staying focused and very concerned, ” says Ducke. “They were the best chance for many rural people to get the treatment they want. ”(“医生和他们的助手在这么小的空间里工作和生活,但仍然保持专注和非常关注,这给我留下了深刻的印象,”Ducke说。这是许多农村人获得他们想要的治疗的最好机会。”)”可知,Ducke对Saint Lukas的服务持赞赏的态度,故选A。 【点睛】 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 A Few Tips for Self-Acceptance We all want it… to accept and love ourselves. It is clear that only when we study hard to acquire the knowledge about the science and technology can we fulfill the need of innovation. Besides, interest is the best teacher. Hardly can we imagine a child without passion of exploring will get progress in innovation, so we need to develop our interests when we are young. Thus, when I was selected to represent the school in the national debate series, I was naturally extremely confident of myself. All the members in my team were good speakers. We had an experienced teacher who trained us well. But I was undoubtedly the most outstanding speaker. In each of the rounds that I debated in, all the judges selected me as the best one. This meant that my confidence was the highest by the time we found ourselves with one week to train before the finals. I had every reason to believe that I would be voted the best speaker for the debate series. I began to be self-important about the whole business and started behaving that way with my team-mates. I would laugh at Eton’s poor debating style. I would complain of Vivian’s slow response. I saw myself as the natural debater who would be disappointed by their bad performance. As the finals drew near, I became more and more dissatisfied with my team. I began missing practices. My teacher was worried. My teammates were panicked. However, they had no choice but to rely on me to win the finals. Even if they would love to remove me from the team they could not because there was no replacement good enough. The day of the finals finally came. I was very excited that I was able to finally show off my debating skills. Everyone was expecting my performance. They knew that I was praised to be the one most likely to win the best speaker for the debate series. Paragraph1: But the reality was not something that I had ever imagined. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Suddenly,a comforting hand from behind held mine. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph1: But the reality was not something that I had ever imagined. Due to lack of training, I failed to get the key point of my speech, for which I wasn’t well prepared. I didn’t know what to say and my mind just went blank. I was so nervous that I just stood there. I felt all the people present were looking at me with strange eyes. I was very embarrassed and shed big big sweat. Paragraph 2: Suddenly, a comforting hand from behind held mine. It came from one of my teammates. He whispered to me, “Don’t be nervous and don’t be afraid. All of us are here to support you and cheer you up. I’m here to help you.” At this time, I realized the mistakes I had made before. I shouldn’t be too confident in myself. I should have humbly trained more with my teammates. At the moment, I was forgiven by my teammates. I pulled myself together, quickly straightened out my ideas and finished my speech. I saw all my teammates applaud for me and I was moved to tears. 词汇激活 行为类 ①不能:fail to do/be unable to do ②支持:support/be back ③振作:pull oneself together/shake oneself together ④鼓掌:applaud/clap one’s hands 情绪类 ①紧张的:nervous/tense ②害怕的:afraid/fearful 【点睛】[高分句型1]Due to lack of training, I failed to get the key point of my speech, for which I wasn’t well prepared.(由“介词+which”引导的定语从句) [高分句型2]At this time, I realized the mistakes I had made before.(由关系代词that引导定语从句,省略了关系代词that) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$null 华清中学高二年级上学期第二次月考 英语试题 (考试时间:120分钟 试卷满分:150分) 注意事项: 1. What color is Amy’s hair? B We were seven hours past sun-up, but you never would have known that on Thursday afternoon as the roosters-adult male chickens began to crow. C He trained it to react to the timer. D. He left it alone in a dark room. 27. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. The science behind rooster crowing B. The history of the Kentucky State Fair C. An occasion where roosters take center stage D. A day when John Ball shows up in a contest. C Animals can express their needs using a lot of ways. 28. For 10 months every year, the train stops at about eight stations over two weeks, before returning to the regional capital to refuel and restock (补给). A. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
