London is the biggest city in Britain. It also has
the largest population. After London, Birmingham
is the second largest city, with around four million
people living and working there. There are a lot of
small cities such as Oxford and Cambridge. They
are beautiful and they have two of the oldest
universities in the world. Cambridge is the nearest
to London. The most expensive city is London
but it’s also the most interesting. London is on the
River Thames, and has the most popular places for
sightseeing, such as Big Ben, Buckingham Palace
and Tower Bridge.

“最……” 这样的最高程度概念时,要用 “the+最高级” 的结构表示。形容词的最高级前必须加定冠词the,副词前的the可以省略。
这种句式一般带有表示比较的介词短语of/in/among等.
比如: Wang Lin is the tallest in our class.
This theater is the cheapest of the three.
形容词、副词的的最高级
1.主语+动词+the +形容词最高级+of /in/among.
Eg. She is the most beautiful girl in our class.
Changjiang is the longest river in China.
2.one of+ the+形容词最高级+名词复数+比较级范围(of/in短语),表示“最……的……之一”。
Eg. Yang Liwei is one of the most famous heroes in China.
二、形容词和副词的最高级的用法
3.the+序数词+形容词最高级+单数名词+比较范围,表示“……是……的第几”。
Eg. The Yellow River is the second longest river in China.
4. Who/Which + 谓语动词+最高级, A ,B or C? 表示三者中,哪一个最……?
Eg.Which is the biggest, the sun ,the moon or the earth ?
注:有些比较级与最高级之间的句子可以转换。
注意(1) 表示 “最……之一” 的句式,要用 one of the +形容词最高级+复数名词。
例如:Jingjiang Hotel is one of the biggest hotels
in our city.
Lisa is not of my best friends.
(2) 当最高级前面有物主代词或名词所有格时,
不加定冠词 the。
例如:Tom is Lucy’s best friend.
Tuesday is her busiest day.
(3)表示“几倍于……”时,用倍数+比较级+than” 表示
