It is good to know that your parents will offer you a shoulder to cry on when you meet setbacks (挫折). Would it still be welcome if your mother gave up her job in order to be closer to you all the time?
Many parents in China have chosen to do so. They stay home to cook healthy food and help children with their homework, reported 21th Century Business Herald and some even rent (租) a small room near their children’s school to save their time. Such parents have got the nickname of “helicopter (直升机) parents”, which means they always closely hover around their children.
“This is harmful to their children as they will not be able to learn self-dependence,” said Chicago family expert (专家) Danielle Sines.

Her mother rented a small room near her school so that she could do the washing and cooking for her. “I’ll have to be there for my children as she is making that last push for college. What I do will save her a lot of time so she can better prepare for the national college entrance exam. It’s worth it.” Her mother told the reporter. In fact, schools in Northeastern states in the USA, such as Connecticut and New York, have the same trend (趋势). Agatha Christie was born in Devon, England in 1890. As a shy child, she was taught by teachers at home and unable to properly express her feelings. So she turned to music as a way of expression and, later in life, to writing.
In 1914, at the age of 24, she married Archie Christie, a World War I fighter pilot. While he was off at war, she worked as a nurse. It was while working in a hospital during the war that Christie first came up with the idea of writing a detective novel. The Mysterious Affair at Styles gave the world the impressive Hercule Poirot, a retired Belgian police officer who was to become one of the most important and popular characters in all of fiction. He was a tidy little man, always careful, orderly and a bit funny.

A mobile phone is used by almost everyone today. However, many people cannot get rid of (摆脱) mobile phones because phones have become part of daily life.
As the addiction (瘾) to the smartphone has become a serious problem, it causes many problems in life. Most phone users look down at their phones for a long time. When hunching (弓背) or bending their neck, they put serious pressure (压力) on the neck and backbone. And this will cause a sore back or a neck ache. According to studies, as high as 45% of the young people from age 16 to 24 these days suffer back pain because of the heavy usage of smartphones. Also, trying to focus on and look at the screen of the phone for a long time will discomfort eyes and may cause loss of vision (视力) . Besides, if someone brings the phone to sleep with, he or she will unconsciously (无意地) spend more time on the phone than sleep. It’s true that phones make life more convenient, but that doesn’t mean they can take control of life.
To get rid of phones, you can create a phone-free time. For example, turn off your phone or stop it from the Internet after 8:00 P. M. At that time, you can spend time on anything but phone so that you won’t check on your phone. Just like smoking, phone addiction is a habit. You must replace the habit with another if you want to change it. So find a few things to do whenever you are not using your phone, such as reading a book or exercising.
Of course, it’s not easy to get rid of a habit and the beginning is the most challenging. That’s why having a strong idea really makes a big difference. Remember, do not let your phone become your _________ and you become its servant (仆人) .

About four months ago, some embroidery designers’ works were chosen to be displayed at Milan Fashion Week. Their beautiful embroidery showed the traditional artistry (工艺技术) of the Miao people. The Miao are one of China’s 56 ethnic groups (民族). Miao people have a habit of decorating clothes with beautiful pictures. They have got ideas for these pictures from nature and their ethnic history. As a result, people think that Miao embroidery is a “living fossil (活化石)” of Miao culture.
“I have never been to a foreign country, but my embroidery has,” Wang Rongbi said in excitement. Wang comes from Xiaogulong Village in Guizhou province. She is one of embroidery designers from the province.
Wang takes pride in where she comes from. In her pieces, she embroiders seals (印章) on different parts of clothes. In this way, she pays her great respect to the Siyin Miao, one branch (分支) of the Miao ethnic group. “Siyin” in Chinese means four seals.
Shi Chuanying is another Miao embroiderer from Guizhou. The 45-year-old was luckier than Wang. She had a front-row seat at the fashion week. In July, Shi received an invitation to attend Milan Fashion Week. On September 21, Shi left for Milan. She went there with two traditional costumes (服装) and ten embroidered pieces made for the catwalk.
The Miao people are happy to see the traditional costumes of their ethnic group on the international stage. My Happiness
Happiness is important in our lives. In fact, happiness is always around you if you put your heart into it.
I will never forget one thing that happened to me. Once, I got a bad mark in a math test. I was sad and afraid to go home, because I was afraid of being blamed. But when I got back home late, my parents knew what had happened. To my surprise, they said to me in a kind voice, “It doesn’t matter, my dear. Remember we’ll always be with you whenever you need help. We believe you can be better next time. Never give up!” I was moved and made up my mind to work harder and harder. I feel happy.
Courage from my parents when I am frustrated will make me the happiest person in the world. Whenever I am in trouble, I can feel my parents’ love. In the future, I want to be a person who can be the pride of my parents.
