【答案】17. A 18. B 19. C 20. A
【解析】
【原文】M: No one knows exactly why some people live longer than others. For nearly ten years, I’ve been trying to find the answer to this question. I’ve traveled to places with large numbers of people aged a hundred and over. Now I’m doing research on the island of Sardinia in Italy. Sardinia is an interesting place because most men keep long life. That isn’t normal for most countries. What is the reason? In Sardinian culture, as men get older, they have fewer public and family responsibilities, but the older mothers or grandmothers often have more. Perhaps the older men have less stress, which means they’re living longer. It’s true that on Sardinia the younger people are eating more fast food. Also young people are moving to cities, so they are doing less exercise because of their lifestyle. It will be interesting to come back to Sardinia in twenty years and see if people are still living longer.

Sometimes when it feels like things are falling apart, they may actually be falling into place. This is exactly the case for Holly Smith from Surrey, when she lost he job two years ago.
At the beginning of 2020, Holly was working as a general manager for a small independent bakery business in Surrey. She had been there for six years and couldn’t believe it when they told her she had to pack up her bags and leave. Being made redundant came as a huge shock to her and she was scared to try extremely hard to cover the bills and find another job during such a difficult time.
Holly didn’t know where to turn at the beginning, but she was determined to find a silver lining, so she picked up a paintbrush and began to paint. Holly painted a portrait of her parents’ dog, a Spinone Italiano named Bailey, and shared the image online. Straight after that, a few friends requested their own pet paintings and soon her career took off.
Holly named her business Holly & Murphy, after her special five-year-old cocker spaniel (可卡犬), Murphy. She is often at her most creative when she’s floating (漂) on water, together with her furry companion in her boat. She combines watercolor paints and pencils to bring dogs’ faces to life. A small painting usually takes two to three days to complete. Customers love how she catches their pet’s personality in great detail. Some of the most memorable paintings she has been asked to do are of dogs that have passed away. Her dog portraits start at £295 and can cost up to £595.
“When it first happened, it felt like the end of the world,” Holly, a present full-time painter and business owner, told the newspaper,“but it was the best thing that ever happened to me. And I’m so grateful to have a job that I love.
24. What does the underlined word “redundant” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Responsible. B. Retired. C. Unimportant. D. Jobless.
25. Who led to the development of Holly’s business at the beginning?
A. The fans. B. Holly’s parents.
C. Holly’s friends. D. Customers losing their pets.
26. What can we infer about Holly’s paintings?
A. They are spoken highly of.
B. They are unique in style.
C. They need to be improved.
D. They should include more details.
27. What does the story convey to the readers?
A. Interest is the best teacher.
B. Every misfortune has its positive aspect.
C. He who laughs last laughs best.
D. Failure is the mother of success.

No matter how many steps you take each day, your health benefits add up. But those who take 7,000 steps a day may be adding years to their lives.
New research found that middle-aged adults who took that many steps daily were up to 70 percent less likely to die at a younger-than-expected age than those whose movement totalled fewer than 7,000 steps a day. The study, which involved 2,110 middle-aged adults who wore a step-counting device and then were tracked for nearly 1l years, was published in the journal JAMA Network Open. How fast participants walked (referred to as their step intensity) did not affect their mortality risk. Rather, those who walked more lived longer. The researchers found, however, that taking more than 10,000 steps a day—the number often cited as a daily goal for health—produced no further drop in mortality risk.
Physical activity like walking is considered one of the most important things people can do to improve their well-being, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A former CDC director described physical activity as the closest thing we have to a wonder drug. Among its benefits, walking can reduce risk for high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and depression and it can help control weight and improve sleep. It is considered good for your bones, muscles, heart and brain. Although walking is considered safe for most people, those who have any concerns should check with their doctor before starting any new physical activity routine. For adults generally, national guidelines focus on time spent on an activity rather than number of steps, recommending 150 minutes a week of proper activity such as walking.
28. What is the discovery of the new research?
A. Middle-aged adults are more worried about their health.
B. Middle-aged men taking 7000 steps a day may live longer.
C. How fast we walked could have an effect on our fitness.
D. Taking 10000 steps a day is better than 7000 steps for health.
29. What does the underlined phrase in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Death rate.
B. Living quality.
C. Health benefits.
D. Physical activity.
30. What can we learn from the text?
A. Physical activity can take the place of drugs gradually.
B. Walking has more benefits over other forms of exercise
C. It is suggested that adults walk at most 150 mins a week
D. You’d better ask your doctor if worried about new exercise.
31. In which column of a newspaper can we find this text?
A. Fashion. B. Health. C. Opinion. D. Sports.
【答案】28. B 29. A 30. D 31. B

【28题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“New research found that middle-aged adults who took that many steps daily were up to 70 percent less likely to die at a younger-than-expected age than those whose movement totalled fewer than 7,000 steps a day.(一项新的研究发现,每天走那么多步的中年人比每天走不到7000步的中年人死于比预期更早的年龄的可能性要低70%)”可知,这项新研究的发现是每天走7000步的中年男性可能更长寿。故选B。
【29题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第二段“Rather, those who walked more lived longer.(相反,走路多的人寿命更长)”可知,走得快并不能降低早死的风险,走得多的人才行,所以“mortality risk”指的是死亡率。故选A。
【30题详解】
推理判断题。由第三段中的“Although walking is considered safe for most people, those who have any concerns should check with their doctor before starting any new physical activity routine.(虽然步行对大多数人来说是安全的,但如果有任何疑虑,在开始任何新的日常体育活动之前,人们应该咨询医生)”可知,如果你对新运动感到担心,最好咨询一下医生。故选D。
【31题详解】

It is often said that if we dream in a foreign language, it’s a sign that we are making progress in learning that language. But is it true?
Before we can look at multilingual (多语言的) dreams, first we need to look at sleep, The link between sleep and language can be applied to how we learn any language, including our mother tongue. Even adults still learn about one new word every two days in their first language, but if we are going to have a firm grasp of that new word, we need to link it to our existing knowledge. “In order to do that, we need to have some sleep”, says Gareth Gaskell, a psychology professor at the University of York.
It’s during sleep that the connection of old and new knowledge happens. At night, one part of our brain—the hippocampus (海马体)—takes whatever new information it got in the day, and passes it on to other parts of the brain to be stored. The role that dreams play in this night-time learning process is still being studied, but it’s entirely possible that during multilingual dreams, the brain is trying to connect two languages, according to Marc Zuist, researcher at the University Hospital of Psychiatry in Switzerland.
So having multilingual dreams could mean that our brain is trying to master a new word or phrase, but it could also have an emotional significance. Danuta Barker, a professor of psycholinguistics (心理语言学) at the University of Silesia in Poland, suggests that multilingual dreams can express fears and desires around learning a foreign language, including the wish to be a native-like speaker or to be accepted within a certain community.
We clearly still have a lot to learn about multilingual dreams, but one thing seems certain: if you’re trying to learn a new language, you should definitely sleep on it.
32. Which of the following does Gareth agree with?
A. Adults are better at learning.
B. We can learn words while sleeping.
C. Our existing knowledge is from dreams.
D. Multilingual dreams have nothing to do with progress.
33. What is the function of the hippocampus?
A. Studying the role of the dream.
B. Analyzing the learning process.
C. Developing the new area of the brain.
D. Absorbing and delivering information.
34. What does Danuta Barker study?
A. Emotion and dreams.
B. Languages and communities
C. Universities and courses
D. Words and expressions.
35. What’s the main idea of the passage?
A. Why we learn a foreign language in the dream.
B. Learning languages is completely from sleeping.
C. Sleeping plays an important part in the development of brains.
D. How multilingual dreams are connected to language learning.
【答案】32. B 33. D 34. A 35. D

【35题详解】
主旨大意题。根据文章大意以及第一段“It is often said that if we dream in a foreign language, it’s a sign that we are making progress in learning that language. But is it true?(人们常说,如果我们用一门外语做梦,这表明我们在学习这门语言方面取得了进步。但这是真的吗?)”和下文内容可知,全篇文章在介绍梦和语言的联系,研究者也进行了分析。由此可知,这篇文章的主旨是多语言梦境是如何与语言学习联系在一起的。故选D项。

67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Among the decorative things in a fifteen-year-old girl’s room, one stood out—a bright blue vase (花瓶). Not a perfect or beautiful vase, it’s broken in several places. The owner of the vase has carefully repaired it, but cracks remain. If this vase could talk, it would tell the story of two girls and a friendship.
Amy and June met on an airplane on their way home from Bangkok where their fathers, who were business partners, were attending meetings. June sat behind Amy. Halfway toward home. Amy turned around and gave June a bright blue vase. June accepted it. They smiled shyly at each other. On that day, a simple friendship between two four-year-old girls was built.
Years flew by. Amy and June grew up together, played together, studied together and, naturally, became closest friends. They supported and comforted each other whenever the other faced sadness, embarrassment, etc.
However, life isn’t a bed of roses. People change as they grow up. Sometimes these changes are hard to accept. And even the friendship can be destroyed. When Amy was 14, she admired a group of very popular girls in her and June’s school. Thus. Amy began hanging out with them and regarded them as her good friends.
Although June was hurt, she tried to be understanding. She was still there for Amy each time Amy found the popular girls didn’t seem to like her and needed a shoulder to cry on. But Amy wasn’t there when June needed her.
Upset about the state of their friendship, June finally invited Amy to her house to talk. When June tried to talk about her difficulties and her problems, Amy turned her back on her by saying. “Later.” Instead, Amy asked June for ideas for what she could do to be accepted by the group of girls. June became angry.
She shouted, “What am I to you, Amy? Your friend or just your little dog?” Amy was annoyed and shouted back. “That is it. June! I hate you!”
Amy rushed out of June’s room, shutting the door hard behind her.

【答案】范文
A blue vase on the shelf jumped and fell onto the floor, breaking into pieces. Unstoppable tears flowed as June picked up the pieces. Ten years of friendship broke like the vase. June felt great pain. After their argument, Amy eventually realized June was her true friend and that her behavior hurt June. Amy was so regretful. Soon, June’s 15th birthday came. She missed Amy. She could still remember an image of 4-year-old Amy holding out the vase to her. Suddenly, the doorbell rang.
When June opened the door, Amy handed her a gift, saying. “Hap, happy birthday. June!” The former best friends looked at each other, their emotions mirrored on each other’s faces. Amy pressed the gift into June’s hand and ran down the pathway. Going back to her room, June sat down and opened the gift. It was a notebook. Attached to it was a note that read, “Dear June, I’m sorry.” June finally felt relieved. She called Amy and then they decided to repair the vase together. That’s why the vase told the story of two girls and a friendship.

30 What can we learn from the text?
A. Physical activity can take the place of drugs gradually.
B. Walking has more benefits over other forms of exercise
C. It is suggested that adults walk at most 150 mins a week
D. You’d better ask your doctor if worried about new exercise.
31. In which column of a newspaper can we find this text?
A. Fashion. B. Health. C. Opinion. D. Sports.

A Adults are better at learning.

注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式作答。
A blue vase on the shelf jumped and fell onto the floor, breaking into pieces.

What is the reason in sydneian culture? As men get older, they have fewer republic and family responsiblities, but the older mothers or grandmothers often have more.
