VICTOR The Too Big Christmas Present! It's winter and freezing cold outside. It's snowed all night long! Victor and Tim's house is under a thick bed of snow. The sun is just rising. Victor is fast asleep, dreaming. Next to him instead, Tim is slowly waking up. He yawns and stretches. He's slept so well in his cosy little bed! It is still very early but today, Tim can't wait! It's Christmas today! … He opens the curtains and has glances outside. "Hurray!" Tim shouts overjoyed. "Victor, come here and have a look! It's snowed and everything is white!" In a blink, Victor is also wide awake. "A white Christmas! Isn't it wonderful?" exclaims Victor amazed. "Shall we go and play in the snow?" asks Tim. "Not today," replies Victor, "don't forget we promised Victoria to help her prepare the Christmas party." They get their Christmas decorations and go through the snow, to Victoria's house, which is just a little further down the street. "Watch out Tim!" warns Victor, "Don't run so fast with that box full of Christmas balls. The snow is very slippery!" Too late! Tim slips… All the Christmas balls literally fly in the air… Victoria was waiting for her friends at her door step. "Good old Tim! You always have to be silly!" she says, laughing. Fortunately, the balls aren't broken. "Thank goodness," sighs Victor, "can you imagine a Christmas tree without balls? That wouldn't be so nice…" Tim picks them up one by one. Straight away, Tim and Victor start to decorate the tree. Victor hangs pretty strings of lights. Victoria watches them with a smile: the tree becomes more and more beautiful. Finally, Tim can fix the star at the top of the Christmas tree. Victoria goes back to the kitchen to prepare the cake. Tim and Victor are very proud of their beautiful Christmas tree. However, Tim is a little sad because there are no presents under it yet. "You are right," says Victor. He goes to the kitchen where Victoria is baking a delicious cake. "Have you already seen Father Christmas, Victoria?" asks Tim. "Well no," she replies, "Father Christmas is late this year." Victor wants to help Victoria with the cake. As Victoria mixes the ingredients, he rolls out the dough. Then they'll just have to bake and decorate the cake. "Is the cake ready?" asks Victor. "Of course not, you silly! It has to cook first," replies Victoria. She then places an almond into the batter. "Why are you doing that?" asks Victor, astonished. "It's a surprise,…" says Victoria. The cake is ready to be put into the oven. "Just a little more patience and then we'll enjoy it," says Victoria. Victor starts to set the table. As he is bringing the plates, he sees Tim jumps up. Clouds of ashes are coming out of the chimney. "What's going on here?" shouts Tim. Victor wants to get to the bottom of this! He runs outside… To his great surprise, he finds Father Christmas on the roof! He can hardly contain his excitement, as Father Christmas is sending some presents down the chimney. "Hello Father Christmas! What are you doing?" asks Victor. "Hello Victor," answers Father Christmas, "I'm bringing some presents for you but one is so big that it won't go down the chimney!" "It's not such a problem Father Christmas. Now that we've seen you, you don't have to send them through the chimney." "You're right Victor," admits Father Christmas. "I'll come down." Victor helps Father Christmas and carries his bag full of presents. Nosy Tim comes to see what's happening. Once inside, Father Christmas arranges the presents nicely under the tree. Tim is overjoyed to see so many presents. "Mmmh..! It smells nice here," says Father Christmas as Victoria comes out of the kitchen with her cake. "Dinner's ready!" she says, cutting the cake. "Would you like a piece of cake too, Father Christmas?" "May I?" he asks, thrilled. "Really? I just love Christmas cakes and this one looks so delicious!" Joyfully, Father Christmas sits at the table. Victoria serves the cake. Everyone gets a big piece and seems to be enjoying it when suddenly… "Oops!" shouts Victor. "There's something hard in the cake!" Victoria bursts out laughing. "Hurray, Victor! You found the almond. You'll be the first to open your presents!" "All right! So this was the surprise!" Victor exclaims laughing. He proudly shows everyone his almond. "Yeepee! I can have my present!" Father Christmas proudly brings it over. Everybody is very curious as they watch him open his present. "Super duper!" shouts Victor, "a beautiful scarf and a nice bonnet." "Glad you like it, Victor," says Father Christmas. Then it's Victoria and Tim's turn to open their presents. Victoria gets an elegant handbag. What about Tim? He looks delighted; the biggest present is for him. "A sledge! Fantastic! Shall we go tomorrow, Victor?" he asks, full of hope. "That's an excellent idea," replies Victor. "Hold on, Father Christmas, there's no present for you…" notices Victor, worried. "Don't worry," answers Father Christmas, "I don't need a present. On the other hand, I'd really appreciate another piece of this delicious cake…" Victoria is over the moon; Father Christmas likes her cake! He sits back at the table and enjoys the cake… Tim is amazed by Father Christmas' appetite! Father Christmas eats the cake to the very last crumb. When he's finished, he leans back and rubs his big belly. "Yummy, it was delicious but I have to go now. I still have a lot of presents to give." Our friends are sad to see him go.
