(2024·广东省上进联盟学校高二下联考)“Never give up! Never give up!” sang my two young children, Max and Charley, as they marched barefoot behind their grandmother Mimi on another adventure, off the beach where they had spent the day building sand castles and beating the waves. This time, they were seeking the icecream truck.
Over the years, Mimi has become our family's source of positivity through her efforts. My father's death left her to raise me and my tenyearold brother alone at forty. She faced a tragedy that is powerful enough to cloud just about anyone's outlook. Instead, she challenged herself to find joy every day. She was always up for a new challenge, whether parasailing over the Gulf of Mexico or signing up for tapdancing classes at fifty. Leading by example, Mom taught us how much one could accomplish with a positive attitude.
She has taken the same approach in her relationship with her grandchildren. Prior to starting her adventure with Max and Charley that hot July afternoon, Mimi heard the familiar sound of the icecream man's bell from her beach chair. The icecream man's visit is a daily occurrence at the beach, but one must be quick to catch his truck. Max and Charley were disappointed when they didn't catch him in time that day, until Mimi's eyes sparkled and explained that they could rush to find it at its next stop.
They walked block after block. My kids' tiny legs were tired, but they went on. After about twenty minutes' walking, Max spoke out loud, “Maybe we should give up.” Charley responded with a quick “No way! Never give up!” and resumed her singing with Mimi.
Just two blocks later, they found it. Max and Charley screamed with excitement, “Never give up!” Simple though it was, that phrase has become our battle cry (口号) for the challenges we face. Upon hearing those words, they are instantly transported to a positive state of mind—where the next icecream truck is just around the corner.

(2024·广东省东莞外国语学校、寮步镇外国语学校高二下月考)My heart sank when I received the news—no salary again. How would I manage the increasing bills, the groceries and my children's needs? The future seemed hopeless. With a heavy heart, I hurried to pick up my two children, my mind racing wildly.
That's when I saw it—a wallet, lying on the sidewalk. It was as if fate had thrown me a lifeline (救生索). Hope came to me as I approached it. The wallet was large, and when I opened it, my eyes widened in disbelief at the sight of a large amount of cash inside it. I hesitated for a moment, torn between the immediate relief that this money promised and the morality (道德) of keeping it.
Curiosity led me to search through the wallet. The things it contained were a photo and a couple of business cards. No matter how much I wanted to take the contents, my moral principles and inner voice told me not to do this. The decision became clear; I couldn't keep this money. It wasn't rightfully mine.
I picked out a business card. The name and number were there. With a deep breath, I dialed the number and explained my find to the voice on the other end. The voice came, completely emotionless, warning that they would come to me. He hung up without even saying “thank you”. I was angry with the impoliteness. I even regretted my decision, but my conscience did not allow me to go back on my choice. I had told the voice where I lived and went to get my children.
Shortly after we arrived home, a large black car suddenly pulled up to our house. The driver got out and knocked on the door. When I opened it, the driver told me that the owner of the wallet wanted me to personally hand over his wallet.
I didn't want to do so, but I agreed to go with the driver at last. After a while, the car stopped at a house, and I met the owner. He was a man with a notgentle face. But soon, his face was lightened by a bright smile, and he revealed to me that all the money in the world could not replace the photo of his beloved daughter that he always carried in his wallet. His beloved daughter lived on the other side of the planet and they saw each other very rarely. After his story, he surprised me with an unexpected proposal.
He wanted to reward me for my honesty and kind act. I was awkward with his offer of a financial reward, but I could not refuse it. So I accepted and was even more pleased when I heard he would offer me a job to work for him under much better conditions and salary than my current job. My heart was beating with a mixture of emotions—relief and gratitude. My answer came quickly. This day will forever remain in my memories as the one in which my moral values and correct decisions helped change my life for the better.
But soon, his face was lightened by a bright smile, and he revealed to me that all the money in the world could not replace the photo of his beloved daughter that he always carried in his wallet.
本句主干是his face was lightened and he revealed to me。and连接两个并列句,第一个that引导宾语从句,第二个that引导定语从句。

(2024·甘肃省武威市高二下期中)“Every life is a boat, the dream is the boat sail.” Every child has a dream of what they want to be. When Renee Butts was little, her dream was to become a volunteer fire fighter because her father was one. Sadly, when she was 14, her beloved father died and she was never able to do volunteer work with him. However, Renee's story didn't end there. She was determined and never gave up, which made for a good firefighter.
Now Renee is a member of the Carmel Fire Department, where she is required to be an Emergency Medical Technician. She should also be ready to deal with any emergency, like fighting a fire, dealing with a car accident or helping someone who's sick. Sometimes she is in the driver's seat or using the water pump. Renee works nine to eleven days a month on 24hour shifts. She also has a family to care for, as her husband is also a busy fire fighter. Dealing with housework and working so much can show her great determination.
When I asked Renee what the best part of her job was, she replied, “Helping people and saving lives.” I think that shows signs of being a true hero. She's always willing to do anything for anyone in need. Renee says that her job is frightening at times, but extremely exciting. “The worst part of my job is that I see death. Actually, sometimes people die in the accident, for which I am very sorry.” With 140 people in her station, Renee is one of the only three women, but that doesn't bother her. She says everyone can get a fair shot and do the same jobs.
I was inspired by this because I knew I would be very scared to do her job and didn't know if I could handle seeing people die. We would never live without people like her who have the courage to risk their lives. Renee's determination rubs off on me and makes me believe that I can do anything.

(2024·四川省内江市第二中学高二下期中)Kelli Boehle says her son Nik was an amazing and caring person. Nik was diagnosed (诊断) with cancer in 2008 when he was 17. He passed away in 2012. But Nik's kindness and generosity have lived on long after his death.
After he was diagnosed and started treatment, Nik was granted (给予) a wish experience from the MakeAWish Foundation. “For just this period of time, we didn't think about cancer,”Kelli Boehle said. “All we thought about was enjoying our time together.”
In 2009, Nik met another young man Nate, who was also going through cancer treatment. He'd been diagnosed a month after turning 18, and Nik learned he was too old to qualify for a wish. The night before Nik passed away, he asked his mother to help ensure that young adults fighting cancer could have their wishes come true too.

The nonprofit grants wishes to young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 who are battling cancer. Nate was the organization's first wish recipient. “It's meant to bring them joy and know that they're loved and that we're fighting for them, too,” Kelli Boehle said.
Recently, 19yearold Jordan Morrow received her wish to attend a Taylor Swift concert as part of a trip to Los Angeles. For Morrow, who has spent the last year battling brain cancer, going to the concert has done more than lift her spirits. “I think it's something to get me through whatever comes my way,” she said. “And I'm thankful for Nik's Wish for that.”
