英语 选择性必修·第三册 [人教版] Section Ⅳ Assessing Your Progress & Video Time 课时作业(六) 较易题(占比25%) 中档题(占比50%) 拔高题(占比25%) 题号 Ⅰ Ⅱ Ⅲ Ⅳ 难度 ★★ ★★ ★ ★★★ Ⅰ 阅读 (2024·辽宁省朝阳市建平实验中学高二下月考)About 12% of the total global energy demand comes from heating and cooling homes and businesses. A new study suggests that using underground water to maintain comfortable temperatures could reduce consumption of natural gas and electricity in this section by 40% in the US. The approach is called ATES, short for aquifer thermal energy storage “We need storage to absorb energy from the sun and wind. It's crucial to creating affordable, reliable, and deeply environmentally friendly electricity systems. Most people are interested in batteries and other kinds of electrical storage. But we were wondering whether there was any opportunity to use geothermal (地热的) energy storage,” said first author A.T.D Perera. “With ATES, energy can be stored for a long period of time, without adding an additional burden to the grid (输电网).” ATES is a pleasantly simple concept that takes advantage of the heatabsorbing property of water and the natural geological features of the planet. You simply pull existing underground water up and heat it at the surface in the summer with environmental heat or energy. Then you send it back down. It stays fairly hot because the Earth is a good insulator (绝热体). “Unlike aboveground tankbased water or ice storage systems, ATES will not need space. It's also more efficient and can support larger communities in cooling or heating than traditional geothermal heat pump systems that rely on heat moving with the underground soil,” added coauthor Hong Tianzhen. A major benefit of ATES is that it will become more efficient as weather becomes more extreme in the coming years due to climate change. The hotter summers and severer winters could increase the amount of free thermal energy that can be stored with ATES. “It's very much a realistic thing to do and this work is really about showing its value,” said Perera. “This technology is ready to go, so to speak. We just need to do it.” (ATES)。 1.What do we know about ATES? A.It is technologically demanding. B.It is aimed at replacing natural energy. C.It mainly relies on batteries to function. D.It helps achieve an environmentally friendly society. 这种方法被称为ATES)”及第二段中的“It's crucial to creating affordable, reliable, and deeply environmentally friendly electricity systems.(这对于创造经济、可靠和非常环保的电力系统至关重要。)” D。 2.How does Hong Tianzhen explain ATES's advantages? A.By giving examples. B.By discussing results. C.By making comparisons. D.By analyzing principles. C。 3.Which will affect ATES's efficiency most? A.Temperature variations. B.Insulated materials. C.The duration of storage. D.The category of energy. A。 4.What can be the best title for the text? A.A Turning Point in Energy Usage B.A Solution to Green Cooling and Heating C.A Transformation in the US Electricity System D.A Discovery About Geothermal Energy Storage 答案:B 解析:标题判断题。 Ⅱ 七选五 (2024·海南省文昌中学高二下期中)Green exercise is a term used to describe any type of physical exercise that takes place in a natural environment, rather than in a health club or gym. __1__ Instead, it relies on the use of natural means of taking part in activities that improve strength and endurance with as little reliance on equipment as possible. __2__ For example, some consider a truly natural exercise experience requires that the individual wear clothing only made from natural fibres. Others consider barefoot (赤脚的) running or walking would be greener and thus be more desirable than running or walking with shoes. A slightly different approach to green exercise puts more stress on fresh air, sunshine, and involvement with the natural world, rather than the equipment or clothing. __3__ Similarly, climbing a mountain using standard equipment and protective clothing would also be considered green exercise. Many consider green exercise helps to reconnect human beings with the natural world. The interaction with nature helps to lower people's blood pressure, refresh their mind, and actually improve their selfesteem (自尊). __4__ Not everyone believes that green exercise is more beneficial than working out in a health club or gym. __5__ Meanwhile, the use of fitness devices may result in more challenging workouts, which help strengthen the heart and lungs in ways that more simplistic exercise in a natural setting would be difficult to manage. A.All forms of green exercise are good for you. B.A green gym uses as little equipment as possible. C.Spirits are also believed to be positively affected. D.Opinions on what truly green exercise means differ. E.So riding a bicycle in a forest can be called a type of green exercise. F.Besides, it usually doesn't use fitness equipment that is normally found in a gym. G.Some point out that many health clubs are constructed to take advantage of natural light. 1.答案:F 解析:根据下文“Instead, it relies on ... as possible.” 2.答案:D 解析:根据下文“For example ... walking with shoes.” 4.答案:C 解析:根据上文“The interaction ... their selfesteem (自尊).” 5.答案:G 解析:根据上文“Not everyone ... a health club or gym.(并非所有人都认为绿色运动比在健身俱乐部或健身房锻炼更有益。)” Ⅲ 语法填空 (2024·山东省临沂市河东区高二下期中)The world has just endured its hottest year on record, with global average temperatures __1__ (break) historical records. Jack continued, but his students showed little enthusiasm. He paused for a moment, allowing the silence to settle in the classroom. Then he went on in a different way. “Imagine,” Jack began, his voice filled with passion, “the feeling of wading (蹚水) through the clear shallow waters of Pigeon River, surrounded by the gentle sunlight. Picture the colors of the Tangerine Darters as they gracefully swim through the currents, their orange bellies (肚子) shining like rays of sunshine, or in that moment, a Tangerine Darter in your hands, its orange belly shining in the sunlight.” He painted a vivid picture with his words. Curiosity lit in his students' eyes as they bent forward, eager to know more. Jack continued, “The darters are very picky about their habitats. The place where they live should be very clean, and slight pollution could drive them away or even endanger their very existence.” As Jack spoke, his passion spread quickly among his students, who started to ask questions, wanting to know more about the Tangerine Darters. Inspired by their newfound interest, Jack had an idea. Why not take students to the Pigeon River, where they can witness the beauty of the Tangerine Darters firsthand? A week later, they were on the trip to the Pigeon River in Canton, North Carolina, where the environment was well preserved in comparison with other industrial areas. Sunshine bounced off the Pigeon River, and cool water flowed over rocks and boulders (卵石)—the preferred habitat of Tangerine Darters. With Jack, it was the first time that the students had stood in the shallow water, eager to see their target of this fish ecology class field trip. Suddenly, Jack bent and quickly caught a fish. Seeing the students' interested looks, Jack raised a question. [精彩范文] Suddenly, Jack bent and quickly caught a fish. Curious, the students crowded him around, eager for a closer look. In the sun, the fish's orange belly was shining like rays of sunshine. “A Tangerine Darter!” students exclaimed cheerfully. “Beautiful, isn't it?” Jack asked. A direct observation of the wonderful creature in the flesh stimulated the students' interest. In the natural classroom, the Pigeon River, the students listened attentively to Jack's introduction of the fish, such as what they eat and how they live and multiply. As Jack spoke, the students' enthusiasm grew stronger. Seeing the students' interested looks, Jack raised a question. “Why can't this fish live in other rivers?” Jack asked, looking into their burning eyes. Then, like in a regular lesson, he paused, allowing his students to reflect. One student responded, “They're picky about their habitats.” Jack nodded smilingly. “So?” Jack continued. “If we pollute rivers at will, clear water like this will disappear, and so will this beautiful fish,” another student answered thoughtfully. Seeing students truly involved, Jack felt a sense of satisfaction. The outdoor trip did prove to speak louder than a regular class.
