There are guided tours every day up this highly active volcano from Antigua, giving travelers a chance to see Mother Nature at her most powerful. Pacaya is an easy drive from Antigua, a beautiful city with many colorful houses along its old streets that are turned into artworks during its Holy Week festival. No matter when you come to Antigua, you won't miss the Pacayatour companies. But climbing Pacaya is no easy job: it is 2,560 metres high, and reaching the summit takes two to three hours of seemingly onestepforward and twostepback movements. As you climb, you hear the dull sounds of eruptions high above. Steaming, hot remains from recent eruptions begin to line the path as you near the active summit: the McKenney Cone (火山锥). Just as though you were going to walk over to the edge of the cone, the road turns to the left and up to the relative safety of the old, inactive summit. Many tours are timed so that you arrive at the cone of the volcano in plenty of time for sunset and the full contrast between the erupting red lava (熔岩) and the darkening sky. On a good day the view from the summit is extremely exciting. The active mouth boils, sending red lava over its sides, and once in a while shoots hot streams up to 100 metres into the air. There is a strong bad smell in the air even if you take care to be upwind of the cone. As evening turns deeper into the night, the burning lava quietly falls down the side of the volcano. For you, too, it is time to get down. 1.What is the main purpose of this passage? A.To describe the beauty of Pacaya. B.To attract tourists to Pacaya. C.To introduce guided tours to Pacaya. D.To explain the power of nature at Pacaya. B。 2.Antigua is a city ________. A.where the daring Pacaya tour starts B.where people can enjoy cultural festivals C.that gives a closeup view of Pacaya D.that is famous for its tour companies 答案:A 细节理解题。根据第一段中的“There are guided tours every day up this highly active volcano from Antigua(每天都有导游带领游客从安提瓜岛登上这座高度活跃的火山)”可知,安提瓜岛是勇敢的帕卡亚旅游开始的城市。故选A。 3.Climbing to the McKenney Cone, people will ________. A.walk directly to the active summit B.hear the continuous loud noise from above C.see a path lined with remains of earlier eruptions D.make greater efforts than to other summits 答案:C 细节理解题。根据第三段中的“Steaming, hot remains from recent eruptions begin to line the path as you near the active summit: the McKenney Cone (火山锥).(当你靠近活跃的山顶:麦肯尼火山锥时,最近喷发的热气腾腾的残留物开始沿着路径排列。)” C。 4.Many tours are timed for people to ________. A.get down the mountain in time when night falls B.avoid the smell from the upwind direction of the cone C.appreciate the scenery of the 2,560metrehigh mountain D.enjoy the fantastic eruption against the darkening sky 答案:D 细节理解题。 1.erupt v. I would like to offer a concept of cities that goes against modern ones. __1__ Such cities should be designed within the distance of a 15minute walk or bike ride. What do we need to create 15minute cities? First, we should start asking questions that we have forgotten. We need to look hard at how to use our square meters. For instance, what is that space for? Who is using it and how? We should understand what resources we have and how they are used. Then we need to ask what services are available in the vicinity We also have to ask ourselves: How do we work? __2__ How do we get this done? __3__ Mayor (市长) Anne Hidalgo has suggested a big bang of proximity (靠近), which includes, for example, a massive decentralization, developing new services for each of the districts—a reduction of traffic by increasing bike lanes into spaces of leisure; new economic models to encourage local shops; building more green spaces; transforming existing infrastructure. That's actually a golden rule for the 15minute city: every square meter that's already built should be used for different things. __4__ First, the rhythm of the city should follow humans, not cars. Second, each square meter should serve different purposes. Finally, neighborhoods should be designed so that we can live, work and thrive in them without having to constantly commute elsewhere. It's funny if you think of it: many modern cities are designed for saving time, and yet so much time is lost to commuting, sitting in traffic jams, driving to a mall. __5__ A.I call it the 15minute city. B.Citizens are actively involved in participation. C.The 15minute should have three key features. D.The first city to adopt the 15minute city idea is Paris. E.Why is the place I live in here, and work is far away? F.The 15minute city idea answers the questions of saving time. G.A different pace of life—a 15minute pace can be just impossible. 1.A 根据上文的“I would like to offer a concept of cities”和下文的“within the distance of a 15-minute walk or bike ride”可知,设空处应提出“15分钟城市”这个概念。 故选A。 根据设空处上一句“We also have to ask ourselves: How do we work?” Jessie had two days' leave in January this year. She surfed the Internet for cheap travel deals and found the most impressive to be a twoday trip to Dublin. Jessie had never visited Ireland so she knew this was the destination for her. She arrived in Dublin and headed for her hotel. She was excited. When she found her hotel, she paid her money for both nights in advance. The receptionist (接待员) said that was possibly the smartest thing she had done since she decided to take the trip. Jessie dropped her bags in her room and immediately went out to check out some of the sights. It was getting late as Jessie wandered in the streets and decided that even though she was starving, she would rather wait to have dinner later after having a drink. She headed into the closest pub. Jessie noticed a rather strangelooking man staring at her from across the room. He walked to her table and asked her in his most polite manner if she would like to have a beer. After about ten seconds of thought, Jessie came to the conclusion that she would and accepted the offer. But she proposed that she should treat him to some fruits. The man smiled and accepted. Their conversation was mainly about places they had been and places they wanted to go. Jessie soon found out that he was traveling alone too and as soon as he started mentioning that he was staying in the same hotel as her, Jessie swiftly rose from her seat to get another drink. Searching through her bag Jessie found that her wallet was gone! Immediately she realized she took the wrong bag. Her wallet was in another bag. [精彩范文] Without explaining the situation, Jessie ran back to the hotel. As soon as Jessie saw the receptionist she burst into tears. She told her the embarrassing situation in the pub and the receptionist burst into laughter. She said that she shouldn't have worried too much since she had found she ordered her hotel. Jessie ran to her room and wallet as soon as possible. She must go back to the pub or she would be regarded as a cheat. Luckily the pub was near and soon Jessie got there. The man was still there. When he saw Jessie again he was completely puzzled. He stood up but didn't know what to say. Jessie smiled and told him the situation which made him burst into laughter too. But he jokingly told Jessie, “If I hadn't proposed an offer of beer, you wouldn't have realized that you hadn't bring money with you. So treat me to two beers please!” They both laughed. Of course they became friends.
