(23-24高一上·安徽亳州·期末)Playtime in your childhood is closely connected to feelings of joy. Play shouldn’t be dismissed as mere childishness (幼稚). Engaging in play goes beyond fun and games — it’s a powerful tool for growth, learning, and healing. When children play, it’s not just about having a good time; they’re also actively developing life skills.
The roots of playfulness sprout (萌芽) early; even babies respond to interactions with their family, whether it’s singing songs, gentle rocking, or active movement. Simple engagements like eye contact, smiles, or voices capture the attention of newborns, laying the foundation for essential connection, trust, and mutual play. Through these seemingly ordinary yet meaningful interactions, play begins.
When playing, children learn about themselves and others. Play serves as a dynamic training ground for trying new things — from running and jumping to planning and organizing. Children discover their inborn talents and develop self-confidence.
Engaging in positive play with others increases children’s desire to connect with peers. Laughter and fun create lightness and bring healing powers. Harmonious play fights against laziness and stress. Importantly, when parents play with children, it reduces stress, serving as a way to take up challenges.
Playtime results in curiosity, causing the natural drive to learn. For instance, children playing “grocery store” uses math and problem-solving skills. In essence, play becomes a fun approach to learning.
Despite its many benefits, play has declined in recent years, a result of the swift life pace of parents. The consequences of a play-lacking childhood extend far beyond the immediate, impacting long-term well-being. The absence of fun social interactions hinders (妨碍) social development and allows stress to accumulate. Without play, opportunities to connect, learn, and experiment are cut back, killing creativity and restricting the development of essential life skills.
Among the demands and hustle (忙碌) of daily life, as parents, it’s easy to overlook the value of play — not just for children but also for ourselves. Prioritizing (优先) play as an adult isn’t a luxury; it’s a vital component for a healthy and happy life. Beyond the joy it brings, play offers the same physical and mental benefits for adults as it does for children. Welcoming fun and laughter not only enriches our lives but also brings moments of joy into our families.

(23-24高一上·北京海淀·期末)I get that parents worry about screen time. But speaking as a researcher studying the effects of screen-based experiences, screens can be a great tool for reading. Digital books give children unique opportunities to learn and improve skills through literacy apps. To that end, I am one of many researchers in this field who believe that digital reading should not be considered screen time in the traditional sense.
With the large number of educational technological products that lack research and good design, the million-dollar question is: What makes a digital story good for children’s learning? Over the past 20 years, researchers have identified specific design features and reading situations that make some digital books more educational than others. First, it’s crucial that digital books offer high-quality personalized reading experiences. With books that have AI-based text generators and a more open-ended design, children become multimedia creators, co-writers and co-illustrators of their own story universe. Second, digital books can significantly enhance the parent-child reading experience. The questions embedded (嵌入的) in digital books should model and expand what the parent might ask, and through this modeling, enhance the quality of parents’ talk around the book.
But as much as I support digital reading, the commercial turn in the development of ed tech worries me, particularly in relation to profit-driven design and misuse of children’s data. Like some social media, subscription libraries turn kids’ attention into a commodity (商品) through automatic book recommendations. These books are often tied to advertising clicks and exhibit low literary quality in their stories. Furthermore, there’s often no content oversight, allowing anyone to become a publisher, which can lead to the creation of biased or data-gathering materials targeting children. Generative AI has expanded content creation possibilities but also raised concerns about quality. In this regard, digital books, like all ed tech, need strict quality checks and improved collaboration between researchers and developers.
Anyway, the digital reading format has opened an exciting new research frontier. This includes using real-time data that teachers and other professionals can use to individualize how children learn to read. AI can be a good partner in supporting adults’ choice of texts, prompts and reading activities for children, provided it is trained with diverse data and valid reading models. As researchers’ calls for evidence-based children’s ed tech are being heard by governments and funders, I hope the past two decades of e-book research can deliver the advantages of digital books to all children. Like it or not, I hope you’ll see that, at least for reading, screens can be an amazing tool to teach your child to read.

2.According to the passage, digital books contribute to ______.
A.more open-ended questions B.quality parent-child interaction
C.personalized design features D.changes in kids’ reading habits
3.What are the major threats to digital reading?

C.The great number of advertisements. D.Low literary quality but high prices.
4.What is the purpose of the passage?
A.To highlight the risks of screen time. B.To introduce some advances in ed tech.

(23-24高一上·江苏南京·期末)Ralph Emerson once said that the purpose of life is not to be happy, but to be useful, to be loving, to make some difference in the world. While we appreciate such words of wisdom, we seldom try to follow them in our lives.
Most people prefer to live a good life themselves, ignoring their responsibilities for the world. This narrow perception of a good life may provide short-term benefits, but is sure to lead to long-term ham and suffering. A good life based on comfort and luxury may eventually lead to more pain because we spoil our health and even our character, principles, ideals, and relationships.
What then, is the secret of a good life? A good life is a process, not a state of being: a direction, not a destination. We have to earn a good life by first serving others without any expectation in return because their happiness is the very source of our own happiness. More importantly, we must know ourselves inside out. Only when we examine ourselves deeply can we discover our abilities and recognize our limitations, and then work accordingly to create a better world.
The first requirement for a good life is having a loving heart. When we do certain right things merely as a duty, we find our job so tiresome that we’ll soon bum out. However, when we do that same job out of love, we not only enjoy what we do, but also do it with an effortless feeling.
However, love alone is insufficient to lead a good life. Love sometimes blinds us to the reality. Consequently, our good intentions may not lead to good results. To achieve desired outcome those who want to do good to others also need to equip themselves with accurate world knowledge. False knowledge is more dangerous than ignorance. If love is the engine of a car knowledge is the steering wheel(方向盘). If the engine lacks power, the car can’t move; if the driver loses control of the steering, a road accident probably occurs. Only with love in heart and the right knowledge in mind can we lead a good life.
With love and knowledge, we go all out to create a better world by doing good to others. When we see the impact of our good work on the world, we give meaning to our life and earn lasting joy and happiness.
1.What effect does the narrow perception of a good life have on us?
A.Making us simple-minded B.Making us short-sighted.
C.Leading us onto a busy road. D.Keeping us from comfort and luxury.
2.According to the author, how can one gain true happiness?
A.Through maintaining good health. B.By going through pain and suffering.
C.By recognizing one’s abilities and limitations. D.Through offering help much needed by others.
3.In what case may good intentions fail to lead to desired results?
A.When we have wrong knowledge of the world. B.When our love for the world is insufficient.
C.When we are insensitive to dangers in life. D.When we stay blind to the reality.
4.According to Paragraph5, life can be made truly good when ______.
A.inspired by love and guided by knowledge B.directed by love and pushed by knowledge
C.purified by love and enriched by knowledge D.promoted by love and defined by knowledge
(23-24高一上·广东广州·期末)“Woman reading book, under a night sky, dreamy atmosphere,” I type into Deep Dream Generator’s Text 2 Dream feature. In less than a minute, an image is returned to me showing what I’ve described.
Welcome to the world of AI image generation, where you can create what on the surface looks like top-rank artwork using just a few text prompts (提示). But closer examination shows oddities. The face of the woman in my image has very odd features, and appears to be holding multiple books. And, while there’s an initial thrill at seeing an image appear, there’s no creative satisfaction.
AI image generation could influence everything from film to graphic novels and more. Children’s illustrators were quick to raise concerns about the technology. They say AI-generated art is the exact opposite of what art is believed to be. Fundamentally, art is all about translating something that you feel internally into something that exists externally. Whatever form it takes, true art is about the creative process much more than it’s about the final piece. And simply pressing a button to generate an image is not a creative process.
Beyond creativity, there are deeper issues. To create images from prompts, AI generators rely on databases of already existing art and text. This could lead to the creation of images that are intentionally meant to imitate (模仿) the style of other artists, without their agreement. There is an argument that AI generators work no differently to humans when it comes to being influenced by others’ work. However, a human artist is also adding emotion and slight difference into the mix. AI doesn’t do the same—it can only copy.
The increasing use of AI will also lead to a devaluing of the work of artists. There’s already a negative prejudice towards the creative industry. People will begin to think that their “work” is as excellent as that created by someone who has spent a career making art. It’s nonsense, of course. You can use your mobile phone to take a nice picture of your daughter, but you are no match for professionals.
1.What does the writer think of his image creation?
A.Exciting. B.Concerned.
C.Unsatisfying. D.Shocking.
2.What do children’s illustrators value most about art?
A.The final art work. B.External expressions in art.
C.The opposite of reality. D.The journey to creation.
3.What is paragraph 4 of the text mainly about?
A.The ethical concerns in AI art imitation.
B.Human artists’ influence on AI generators.
C.The superiority of human artworks.
D.The over-reliance of human on technology.
4.Which of the following best summarizes the last paragraph?
A.Art is the mirror of life. B.Rome is not built in a day.
C.No man can do two things at once. D.Don’t judge a book by its cover.
(23-24高一上·河北保定·期末)Kids are even more in the bag of social media companies than we think. Many of them have given away their online autonomy fully to their phones. For them, the only acceptable online environment is one designed by big tech algorithms (算法).
As children’s free time and imaginations become more and more tightly joined to the social media, we need to understand that uncontrolled access to the Internet comes at a cost. This spring, I visited with a group of high school students in Connecticut to have a conversation about the role that social media plays in their daily lives and in their mental health. More children today report feeling depressed, lonely, and disconnected than ever before.
There are countless problems with children and teenagers using social media. But the high schoolers with whom I met alerted me to a hidden result of teenagers’ growing addiction to social media: the death of exploration and discovery. Algorithmic recommendations now do the work of discovering and pursuing interests, finding community, and learning about the world. Kids today are, simply put, not learning how to be curious, critical adults—and they don’t seem to know what they’ve lost.
We all know the journeys in life matter just as much as the destinations. It is the sweat to get the outcome that makes the outcome more fulfilling and satisfying.
What the kids I spoke to did not know is that these algorithms have been designed in a way that unavoidably makes and keeps users unhappy. Social media companies know that content that generates negative feelings holds our attention longer than that which makes us feel good. If you are a teenager feeling bad about yourself, your social media feed will keep delivering you videos and pictures that are likely to produce negative feelings.
We should take some measures. Teenagers and kids are to be inspired to determine if we will really be happier as a species when machines and algorithms do all the work for us, or if fulfillment only comes when humans actually do the work, searching and discovering, of being human.

A.They become more dependent on their phones.
B.They feel less depressed and lonely than ever before.
C.They are unable to find community and learn about the world.
D.They gradually lose the ability to be curious and critical.
3.Why do social media companies prefer content that generates negative feelings?
A.It helps them gain more attention from users.
B.It makes users feel more satisfied with their products.
C.It encourages users to explore and discover new things.
D.It promotes the development of artificial intelligence.
4.What should be done to change the current situation?
A.Limit the use of social media for children and teenagers.
B.Inspire children to complete the work without the help of algorithms.
C.Encourage teenagers and children to explore and discover the contentment of life.
D.Redesign social media algorithms to make users happier and more fulfilled.
(23-24高一上·河北保定·期末)Artificial intelligence is making its way into classrooms, suggesting a future where education is more personalized and active. AI’s ability to customize learning and provide immediate feedback could change how students learn, making education more effective and attracting.
Schools globally are starting to see the benefits of AI. For example, adaptive learning platforms can now tailor lessons to each student’s pace and style of learning, improving engagement and understanding. DreamBox Learning, an AI-powered math platform, has already showed how such technology can improve students’ abilities in problem solving.
However, there’s a notable concern raised alongside these advancements —the AI divide, or the growing gap between those who have access to advanced AI tools and those who do not. A 2023 report by the Educational Data Trust found that wealthier school districts are three times more likely to have adopted AI-powered learning platforms compared to the under-resourced districts. We don’t know what this technology will look like 10 years from now, but the current trend shuts out poor districts. It’s in the big dog’s best interest to do so, but it sucks anyways.
Addressing the AI divide requires a concerted effort. Policymakers have the power to level the playing field by supporting AI accessibility in all schools. Schools and educators have a role to play too. They must train their students to use AI as a tool. They can foster partnerships to share AI resources and focus on building universally essential skills like critical thinking and digital literacy. Tech companies and community groups have roles to play as well, such as offering AI expertise and support to schools lacking resources.
AI in education has both advantages and disadvantages, with the promise of transformative(带来变革的)learning coming alongside the risk of deepening divides. As we accept AI’s potential, we must also make sure that it serves as a tool for to help everyone, paving the way for a future where every student has the opportunity to succeed.
1.Why does the author mention “DreamBox Learning” in paragraph 2?
A.To show the advantages of AI.
B.To introduce an AI-powered social media platform.
C.To help students to solve math problems.
D.To improve students’ abilities in problem solving.
2.What is the author’s attitude towards AI in education?
A.Supportive. B.Disappointed. C.Objective. D.Critical.
3.What does the underlined word “concerted” in paragraph 4 refer to?
A.Tough. B.Joint. C.Limited. D.Brief.
4.What is the best title for the text?
A.AI in Education—A Double-edged Sword
B.AI in Education—A Great Success
C.AI in Media Platform—An Advanced Tool
D.AI in Classroom—A Replacement for the Teacher
(23-24高一上·江苏苏州·期末)People send messages every day on social media. These online conversations can have a huge impact and shape how societies make decisions. But there is a growing problem. Sometimes people don’t listen to each other and can say really hurtful things. Would it be better if there were an advisor in online talks? We tried to use artificial intelligence (AI) (人工智能) to carry out this task.
So, we did an online experiment with pairs of people discussing a challenging topic. In the first group, one participant (参与者) in each pair had an AI helper. The AI tried to make sure the discussion was polite and respectful. It didn’t change the participant’s point of view, though! The participant could accept or refuse the suggestions or completely edit the message an AI helper offers. In the control group, the people had a conversation on the same topic but neither of the participants had an AI helper. After the discussions ended, the pairs shared their thoughts on how good the conversation was.
In our study, the participants accepted the AI’s suggestions two thirds of the time. When they used the AI’s suggestions, the messages became more positive and polite. Participants whose partners used the AI reported feeling better about the conversation. They were more willing to understand and respect each other, even if they still disagreed. The people who used the AI themselves didn’t report a huge change in how they felt about the conversation. However, they were more willing to respect the opinions of others!
The results of our study show that AI did a good job of making online discussions polite. But you don’t need a reminder to be respectful. Even in the vast digital world, each conversation matters. Your choice to be kind and respectful can make a big difference. It can promote a culture of healthy discussion and understanding. This is also true for real-life conversations.
1.What do the underlined words “this task” in paragraph 1 probably refer to?
A.Starting talks. B.Guiding conversations.
C.Changing views. D.Sending messages.
2.What do we learn about participants with AI helpers?
A.They responded to AI politely. B.They changed views as AI suggested.
C.They tended to respect others’ views. D.They experienced mixed feelings.
3.What does the author want to stress in the last paragraph?
A.The effectiveness of AI in online discussions. B.The significance of respectful communication.
C.The importance of reminders in conversations. D.The balance between technologies and choices.
4.Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A.Can Al remove mean posts? B.Can AI make online talks kinder?
C.How to respect different opinions? D.How to reach an agreement online?
(23-24高一上·河南·阶段练习)Pindar Van Arman is a painter, but he’s also a software designer. He has built some machines and worked on a DARPA challenge team in California to build a self-driving car. His latest project? A robot painter, BitPaintr.
BitPaintr is Van Arman’s fifth robot in 10 years. Earlier versions included devices that produced simpler paintings with algorithms (算法). But the idea for BitPaintr is simple: A user just uploads a picture, and it can paint totally on its own and develop its own style.
Although his friends joke that he has invented a really expensive, slow, bad painter, Van Arman says teaching a machine how to be creative has helped him get to the bottom of what creativity is — and appreciate it.
“When you’re trying to teach a machine to do something that’s easy for humans, it really makes you sit back and see what humans are doing,” he says.
So what is creativity, then, if a robot with a paintbrush can be — or appear to be — just as creative as a human with a paintbrush?
Mark Riedl, a professor at the Georgia Tech School of Interactive Computing, says it depends on how you define creativity. “There is creativity and Creativity,” Riedl says. “Being ‘creative’ usually has something to do with the little things that we do hundreds of times in our daily lives. They could be creative, but usually aren’t. To be ‘Creative’ is to have an imagination that will have a huge impact on a social level — the Picassos and the Mozarts of the world; the people who have produced something that’s taken on this additional level of meaning.”
Riedl admits what robots create is far from human-level quality art, but he sees robots entering the creative process as a positive thing.
“We want the computers to keep up with us,” he says. “And thanks to researchers like Van Arman, it seems like they will, although they will not replace us, but to help us to be more creative.”
1.Which is a new quality of BitPaintr?
A.Simplicity. B.Creativity. C.Speed. D.Profitability.
2.What is Van Arman’s friends’ attitude to BitPaintr?
A.Favorable. B.Doubtful. C.Unclear. D.Hopeful.
3.What does Mark Riedl suggest about computers?
A.They will defeat the greatest artists soon.
B.They can produce “Creative” things by themselves.
C.They will learn more from the Picassos and the Mozarts.
D.They can help us to do daily things in more “creative” ways.
4.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Can BitPaintr-like Robots Replace Artists in the Future?
B.Why Do People Have Sharply Different Views on AI Robots?
C.What Is the Difference Between the Two Kinds of Creativity?
D.Can BitPaintr Be Considered a “Creative” Painting Software?
(23-24高一上·天津·期末)Why does social media trigger feelings of loneliness and inadequacy? Because instead of being real life, it is, for the most part, impression management, a way of marketing yourself, carefully choosing and filtering (过滤) the picture and words to put your best face forward.
Online “friends” made through social media do not follow the normal psychological progression of an interpersonal relationship. You share neither physical time nor emotional conversations over the Internet. You simply communicate photographs and catchy posts to a diverse group of people whom you have “friended” or “followed” based on an accidental interaction. This is not to say that your social media friends can’t be real friends. They absolutely can, but the two are not the same. Generally speaking, there are no unfiltered comments and casually taken photos on our social media pages. And, rightfully so, because it wouldn’t feel safe to be completely real and honest with some of our “friends” whom we don’t actually know or with whom trust has yet to be built.
Social media can certainly be an escape from the daily routines, but we must be cautioned against the negative effects, such as addiction, on a person’s overall psychological well-being.
As humans, we are eager for social connection. Scrolling (滚动) through pages of pictures and comments, however, does not provide the same degree of fulfillment as face to face interactions do. Also, we tend to idealize others’ lives and compare our downfalls to their greatest accomplishments, ending in feelings of loneliness and inadequacy.
Social media can lead people on the unhealthy pursuit of perfection. Some people begin to attend certain events or travel to different places so that they can capture that “perfect” photo. They begin to seek validation through the number of people who “like” their posts. In order for it to play a psychologically healthy role in your social life, social media should enhance an already healthy social network. Pictures and posts should be byproducts (副产品) of life’s treasured moments and fun times, not the planned and calculated image that one is putting out into cyberspace in an attempt to fill insecurities or unmet needs.
Ultimately, social media has increased our ability to connect with various types of people all over the globe. It has opened doors for business and allowed us to stay connected to people whom we may not otherwise get to follow. However, social media should feel like a fun experience, not one that contributes to negative thoughts and feelings. If the latter is the case, increasing face to face time with trusted friends, and minimizing time scrolling online, will prove to be a reminder that your social network is much more rewarding than any “like”, “follow” or “share” can be.
1.What does the author imply social media may do to our life?
A.It may facilitate our interpersonal relationships.
B.It may filter our negative impressions of others.
C.It may make us feel isolated and incompetent.
D.It may help us make as many friends as we can.”
2.Why do people post comments selectıvely on social media?
A.They do not find all their online friends trustworthy.
B.They do not want to lose their followers.
C.They want to avoid offending any of their audience.
D.They are eager to boost their popularity.
3.What are humans tend to do according to paragraph 4?
A.Learn Jessons from other people’s downfalls.
B.Strive for perfection whatever the cost.
C.Paint a rosy picture of other people’s lives.
D.Show their life’s accomplishments more impressive than reality.
4.What does the author advise people to do when they find their online experience negative?
A.Use social media to increase their ability to connect with various types of people.
B.Stay connected to those whom they may not otherwise get to know and befriend.
C.Try to prevent negative thoughts and feelings from getting into the online pages.
D.Strengthen ties with real-life friends instead of caring about their online image.
(23-24高一上·浙江杭州·期末)A popular saying goes, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” However, that’s not really true. Words have the power to build us up or tear us down. It doesn’t matter if the words come from someone else or ourselves — the positive and negative effects are just as lasting.
We all talk to ourselves sometimes. We’re usually too ashamed to admit it, though. In fact, we really shouldn’t be because more and more experts believe talking to ourselves out loud is a healthy habit.
This “self-talk” helps us motivate ourselves, remember things, solve problems, and calm ourselves down. Be aware, though, that as much as 77% of self-talk tends to be negative. So in order to stay positive, we should only speak words of encouragement to ourselves. We should also be quick to give ourselves a pat on the back. The next time you finish a project, do well in a test, or finally clean your room, join me in saying “Good job!”
Often, words come out of our mouths without us thinking about the effect they will have. But we should be aware that our words cause certain responses in others. For example, when returning an item to a store, we might use warm, friendly language during the exchange. And the clerk will probably answer in a similar manner. Or harsh (刻薄的) and critical language will most likely cause the clerk to be defensive.
Words have power because of their lasting effect. Many of us regret something we once said. And we remember unkind words said to us! Before speaking, we should always ask ourselves: Is it loving? Is it needed? If what we want to say doesn’t pass this test, then it’s better left unsaid.
Words possess power: both positive and negative. Those around us receive encouragement when we speak positively. We can offer hope, build self-esteem (自尊) and motivate others to do their best. Negative words destroy all those things. Will we use our words to hurt or to heal? The choice is ours.
1.What is the main idea of the first paragraph?
A.Words have a great effect on us. B.Encouraging words give us confidence.
C.Negative words may let us down. D.Not sticks and stones but words will hurt us.
2.Why is there no need for us to feel ashamed when we talk to ourselves?
A.Almost everybody has the habit of talking to themselves.
B.Talking to ourselves can have positive effect on us.
C.Talking to ourselves always gives us courage.
D.It does no harm to have “self-talk” when we are alone.
3.What does the underlined sentence mean?
A.Make ourselves relaxed. B.Remind ourselves.
C.Praise ourselves. D.Give ourselves happiness.
4.What can we learn from the text?
A.Encouraging words are sure to lead to kind offers.
B.Negative words may inspire us to make more progress.
C.It is better to think twice before talking to others.
D.People tend to remember friendly words.
(23-24高一上·广东深圳·期末)One of Twitter’s main characters recently was a man who chose to keep his middle seat between a couple on a flight instead of moving to the side. The situation raised some questions: Who are these middle-seat lovers? What do they want?
Many of the thousands of replies suggested that the majority of the flying public cannot understand why someone would ever choose the middle over a window or an aisle (走廊). But among the majority appeared a few people who endorse middle seats. “In the middle seat I don’t feel I should lean one way or another and generally sit pretty comfortably,” one person wrote. Another added: “I’m not getting hit by someone walking down the aisle or luggage either.”
Kyle Burke, in Florida, said on Twitter that he usually exchanged seats when asked. “I didn’t want to sit between a couple that were upset with me,” he told The Washington Post. At 6-foot-7, Burke, 41, said he didn’t fit well in plane seats, anyway. So, he preferred the middle, which gives him double chance of having a chatty neighbor.
Frederick resident Samantha Jones told The Post by email that she usually chose the middle seat when traveling alone. As a mother of three, “Having personal space is a far-off memory.” she said. “Middle seats have the least amount of responsibility,” she wrote. “I don’t control the window shade and only have to get by one person to get out or to go to the bathroom.”
Despite the few fans, middle seats are still not likely to get much respect. “There’s nothing good in the middle seat,” Scott McCartney, the writer of the journal Middle Seat said. “The position’s infamy (臭名昭著) was part of the reason for the journal’s name.” He added: “People really care about the ‘middle seat’, so they are more likely to pick up this magazine on seeing it.”
1.How does the author start the text?
A.By challenging a common belief. B.By raising a couple’s questions.
C.By comparing travelers’ preferences. D.By presenting an unusual seat choice.
2.What does the underlined word “endorse” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Exchange. B.Resist. C.Support. D.Indicate.
3.Why does Samantha prefer the middle seat?
A.It provides larger space. B.It reduces unnecessary trouble.
C.It avoids family responsibilities. D.It offers networking opportunities.
4.Why did Scott choose “Middle Seat” as the name of his journal?
A.To catch readers’ eyes. B.To voice his own taste.
C.To make people think. D.To urge airlines to change.
(23-24高一上·福建厦门·期末)“FIND YOUR PASSION (热爱)! ” This inspiring instruction suggests it’s important to discover what truly excites us in life. But is it good advice?
Science tells us that passions are developed. They can be raised through curiosity and repeated practices. Our first interest can be developed into a true passion with positive experiences. But “finding” a passion means that it already exists and is waiting to be discovered. This misunderstanding can hold people back. Fortunately, our latest research shows there are ways to encourage a more open outlook about it.
To study these ideas, we use a framework of “fixed” and “growth” mindsets: fixed mindset sees interests as unchangeable, while a growth mindset views interests and passions as developed. A growth mindset of interest comes with many advantages, while a fixed mindset may discourage exploration. In one study, after we excited participants’(参与者的) interest in a topic of black holes with an easy-to-understand video, people with a fixed mindset came to dislike the topic when faced with a technical article. Those with a growth mindset kept their new-found interest despite the difficulty.
So can a growth mindset of interest be taught? We published findings with 700 liberal arts undergraduates, most of whom held limited interest in math and science. We offered students either our intervention (干预) or a study skills module. The intervention included reading and reflective writing activities that helped students think about interests and passions as developed rather than found and fixed. For example, students wrote a paragraph about a case when they developed interest in a new activity. The study skills module, meanwhile, stressed practices such as time management. By the end of the school year, the students who had received the intervention were more interested in their required math and science courses——and earned better grades in those courses—than their study skills peers.
While our intervention offers a way for schools to support their students, we also believe people can independently build up a growth mindset of interest. Realize that passions aren’t waiting to be “found.” Take an active role in developing them.
1.What does “this misunderstanding” underlined in paragraph 2 refer to?
A.Passions can be developed with more practices.
B.Interest is of great help to build up confidence.
C.Passions are fixed and wait to be uncovered.
D.Interest can be discouraged by repeated work.
2.Why does the author mention the “black holes” study?
A.To make a prediction. B.To show the difference.
C.To protest a decision. D.To explain the rule.
3.What can we learn about the study from paragraph 4?
A.Students were grouped based on types of mindset.
B.Reflective writings helped students build up interest.
C.Study skills were used to reduce students’ stress.
D.Better grades contributed to one’s favour to a subject.
4.Which of the following does the author probably agree with?
A.Love what you do, and you’ll keep going and become better.
B.Find what you love, and you’ll never have to work a day.
C.It can always be easy and exciting to dig into new areas.
D.It is much better to get lost in the passion than to lose it.
Research has showed physical activities are very important for students. So many schools are now encouraging students to take part in any form of healthy exercise.
Physical education is an important part of healthy living for people of all age groups, especially for the students. This is because school life is full of stress.
Besides that, in today’s world, many school children eat unhealthy foods. These may include soft drinks, pizzas and burgers. Eating these foods can make school children gain weight.
Physical education at school helps prevent school children from putting on weight. Physical exercise and activities will help them burn off more calories (卡路里). If these calories are not burned off, they will be stored as fat.
At the same time, such activities play an important role in the growth and development of the bones (骨骼). Exercise such as jumping is especially important for school children.
A physically active student will also have a healthy heart. Research shows that kids who perform aerobic (有氧的) exercise, two to three times a week for at least twenty minutes, have a healthier heart compared with those who don’t take part in physical exercise. Some kinds of the healthy aerobic exercise are playing basketball, playing soccer and so on.
1.What are many schools encouraging their students to do?
A.Study hard and get good grades.
B.Join in different kinds of sports games.
C.Take part in any form of healthy exercise.
D.Take part in different kinds of after-school activities.
2.What does the underlined word “gain” mean in Paragraph 3?
A.Prevent B.Discuss C.Lose D.Increase

4.What’s the best title for the passage?
A.Healthy living habits
B.Students’ school life
C.Exercise more to keep healthy
D.Different kinds of aerobic exercise
(23-24高一上·江西南昌·期末)It’s common for people to have the idea, believing that happiness will come after reaching certain goals. This can include things like getting a promotion, finding a romantic partner, or reaching a certain level of life success. While these achievements can certainly bring some happiness, this way of thinking can lead to an endless cycle of waiting for the next thing to bring happiness.
The truth is that happiness should not be dependent on material achievements but rather a choice we make in each moment. By linking happiness with outside factors, we often lose sight of the present moment and miss the joy that can be found in everyday experiences. It’s important to realize that happiness is not something that can be achieved in the future, but rather a state of mind that we can keep at present. By being present, we can appreciate the simple pleasures in life, like the warmth of the sun on our skin, the laughter of loved ones, or the taste of a delicious meal.
Life is indeed filled with challenges, which are an important part of our journey towards personal growth. They often push us out of our comfort zones and force us to think creatively and find new solutions, providing us with opportunities to learn, get valuable experience and discover our inner strength. By embracing these opportunities to learn, we can grow and become better equipped to handle future challenges instead of always waiting for the perfect moment or for all our problems to be solved before allowing ourselves to be happy. When we understand that challenges are not difficulties to our happiness but rather opportunities for growth and learning, we can appreciate the present moment and find happiness regardless of the situations.
Rather than waiting for future events to bring happiness, it’s better to accept the present and find joy and contentment in the journey itself. Let’s grasp the opportunity and embrace the joy that is within our reach. Time waits for no one, so why wait to be happy?
1.How can people find happiness according to the passage?
A.By reaching certain goals. B.By achieving material success.
C.By being content with present situation. D.By keeping seeking new experiences.
2.What do challenges bring to us?
A.Perfect moments. B.Comfort zones. C.Inner beauty D.Personal progress.
3.What does the underlined word “embracing” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A.Accepting. B.Assuming C.Creating D.Believing
4.What is the text mainly about?
A.The chance of personal growth. B.The way to get the happiness.
C.The courage to face the challenge. D.The solution to achieve the goals.

1.What is mainly talked about babies in paragraph 2?
A.The methods of communication. B.The interactions with parents.
C.The beginning of first play. D.The ways to draw their attention.
2.Why do children play less these years than before?
A.Because play is widely considered as childishness.
B.Because children have a huge academical burden.
C.Because no one benefits from play.
D.Because their parents are too busy.
3.Who is the passage mainly intended for?
A.Parents. B.Educators. C.Children. D.Doctors.
4.Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.The Benefits of Leisure B.The Power of Play
C.The Advice for Parents D.The growth of Children
【答案】1.C 2.D 3.A 4.B

1.What is the author’s attitude towards counting digital reading as screen time?
A.Supportive. B.Neutral. C.Cautious. D.Disapproving.
2.According to the passage, digital books contribute to ______.
A.more open-ended questions B.quality parent-child interaction
C.personalized design features D.changes in kids’ reading habits
3.What are the major threats to digital reading?
A.Profit-driven design and data misuse. B.The strict checks on the content.
C.The great number of advertisements. D.Low literary quality but high prices.
4.What is the purpose of the passage?
A.To highlight the risks of screen time. B.To introduce some advances in ed tech.
C.To offer another view on digital reading. D.To present the benefits of reading online.
【答案】1.D 2.B 3.A 4.C

【答案】1.B 2.D 3.A 4.A
根据文章第二段“This narrow perception of a good life may provide short-term benefits, but is sure to lead to long-term harm and suffering.(这种对美好生活的狭隘看法可能会带来短期的好处,但肯定会导致长期的伤害和痛苦)”可知,对美好生活的狭隘看法只能给我们带来短期的好处,所以时间长了会让我们目光短浅、短视。故选B项。
根据文章第三段“We have to earn a good life by first serving others without any expectation in return because their happiness is the very source of our own happiness.(我们必须先为他人服务而不求回报,因为他人的幸福是我们自己幸福的源泉)”可知,我们能够从帮助他人获得真正的幸福。故选D项。
故选A项。
根据文章最后一段“With love and knowledge, we go all out to create a better world by doing good to others.(带着爱和知识,我们全力以赴,通过对他人做好事来创造一个更美好的世界)”可知,有爱和知识,生活就会变得更美好。故选A项。
【答案】1.C 2.D 3.A 4.B
根据第二段中“But closer examination shows oddities. The face of the woman in my image has very odd features, and appears to be holding multiple books. And, while there’s an initial thrill at seeing an image appear, there’s no creative satisfaction. (但仔细观察就会发现一些奇怪之处。在我的图像中,这个女人的脸有着非常奇怪的特征,似乎拿着多本书。而且,虽然看到图像出现时会有一种最初的兴奋感,但却没有创造性的满足感)”可知,作者认为这张创作出的图像很奇怪,无法令人满意。故选C项。
2.细节理解题。根据第三段中“Fundamentally, art is all about translating something that you feel internally into something that exists externally. Whatever form it takes, true art is about the creative process much more than it’s about the final piece. (从根本上说,艺术就是把你内心的感受转化成外在的东西。无论采用何种形式,真正的艺术都是关于创造过程而不是最终作品)”可知,儿童插画家最看重的是艺术的创作过程。故选D项。
3.主旨大意题。根据第四段“Beyond creativity, there are deeper issues. 故选A项。
根据最后一段“The increasing use of AI will also lead to a devaluing of the work of artists. There’s already a negative prejudice towards the creative industry. People will begin to think that their “work” is as excellent as that created by someone who has spent a career making art. It’s nonsense, of course. You can use your mobile phone to take a nice picture of your daughter, but you are no match for professionals. A.
1.We can learn from paragraph 1 that social media companies ______.
A.earn a lot of money from kids
B.have a great impact on kids
C.make kids give away their phones
D.provide necessary services to kids
2.According to the author, what is the result of children’s addiction to social media?
【答案】1.B 2.D 3.A 4.C

根据第三段“There are countless problems with children and teenagers using social media.
根据倒数第二段“What the kids I spoke to did not know is that these algorithms have been designed in a way that unavoidably makes and keeps users unhappy. Social media companies know that content that generates negative feelings holds our attention longer than that which makes us feel good. (与我交谈的孩子们不知道的是,这些算法的设计方式不可避免地会让用户不满意。社交媒体公司知道,产生负面情绪的内容比让我们感觉良好的内容更能吸引我们的注意力。)”可知,社交媒体公司更喜欢产生负面情绪的内容,因为这有助于他们获得更多用户的关注。故选A项。
根据最后一段“We should take some measures. Teenagers and kids are to be inspired to determine if we will really be happier as a species when machines and algorithms do all the work for us, or if fulfillment only comes when humans actually do the work, searching and discovering, of being human. (我们应该采取一些措施。青少年和孩子们应该受到启发,去决定,当机器和算法为我们做所有的工作时,我们作为一个物种是否真的会更快乐,或者只有当人类真正去做作为人类的工作,去寻找和发现时,我们才会得到满足。)”可知,应该鼓励青少年和儿童探索和发现生活的满足感来改变现状。故选C项。
【答案】1.A 2.C 3.B 4.A

根据划线词前面的内容“But there is a growing problem. Sometimes people don’t listen to each other and can say really hurtful things. Would it be better if there were an advisor in online talks? (但是有一个日益严重的问题。有时候人们不听对方的,会说一些很伤人的话。如果在线会谈中有一个顾问会不会更好?)”可知,有时候人们不听对方的,会说一些很伤人的话。如果在线会谈中有一个顾问会不会更好?因此划线词指代的是使用人工智能作为在线对话的顾问,以确保对话是礼貌和尊重的即避免说一些很伤人的话,故该任务指代的是即指导对话。故选B。
2.细节理解题。根据第二段中“The AI tried to make sure the discussion was polite and respectful. It didn’t change the participant’s point of view, though! The participant could accept or refuse the suggestions or completely edit the message an AI helper offers. (人工智能试图确保讨论是礼貌和尊重的。然而,这并没有改变参与者的观点!参与者可以接受或拒绝人工智能助手的建议,也可以完全编辑人工智能助手提供的信息。)”可知,在使用AI助手可以确保参与者是礼貌的和尊重的,即使存在分歧,参与者可以接受或拒绝人工智能助手的建议,也可以完全编辑人工智能助手提供的信息,更愿意理解和尊重对方。故选C。
3.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Even in the vast digital world, each conversation matters. Your choice to be kind and respectful can make a big difference. It can promote a culture of healthy discussion and understanding. This is also true for real-life conversations. ( 即使在庞大的数字世界里,每一次对话都很重要。你选择友善和尊重他人会带来很大的不同。它可以促进健康讨论和理解的文化。现实生活中的对话也是如此。)”可知,最后一段强调了尊重的沟通的重要性,即使在数字世界中,每个人的对话都很重要,选择善良和尊重可以促进健康的讨论文化和理解。故选B。
4.主旨大意题。根据第一段“But there is a growing problem. Sometimes people don’t listen to each other and can say really hurtful things. Would it be better if there were an advisor in online talks? We tried to use artificial intelligence (AI) (人工智能) to carry out this task.
【答案】1.B 2.B 3.D 4.A
根据第二段中的“But the idea for BitPaintr is simple: A user just uploads a picture, and it can paint totally on its own and develop its own style.(但对BitPainter来说,想法很简单:用户只需上传一张图片,它就可以完全自己画画,并发展自己的风格。)”
根据第三段中的“his friends joke that he has invented a really expensive, slow, bad painter(他的朋友们开玩笑说他发明了一个非常昂贵、缓慢、糟糕的画家)”可推断,Van Arman的朋友对这个机器人的作用持怀疑态度。故选B。
根据第六段中的“Being ‘creative’ usually has something to do with the little things that we do hundreds of times in our daily lives. They could be creative, but usually aren’t.(‘有创造力’通常与我们日常生活中做了数百次的小事有关。它们可能有创造力,但通常不是。)”及最后一段中的“And thanks to researchers like Van Arman, it seems like they will, although they will not replace us, but to help us to be more creative.(多亏了像Van Arman这样的研究人员,它们似乎会,尽管它们不会取代我们,但会帮助我们更有创造力。)”
通读全文以及第一段“ Pindar Van Arman is a painter, but he’s also a software designer. He has built some machines and worked on a DARPA challenge team in California to build a self-driving car. His latest project? A robot painter, BitPaintr.(Pindar Van Arman是一名画家,但他也是一名软件设计师。他已经制造了一些机器,并在加州的DARPA挑战团队中工作,以制造一辆自动驾驶汽车。他的最新计划?一个机器人画家,BitPaintr。)”和最后一段中的“And thanks to researchers like Van Arman, it seems like they will, although they will not replace us, but to help us to be more creative.(多亏了像Van Arman这样的研究人员,它们似乎会,尽管它们不会取代我们,但会帮助我们更有创造力。)” 故选A。
【答案】1.C 2.A 3.C 4.D
根据第一段“Why does social media trigger feelings of loneliness and inadequacy? Because instead of being real life, it is, for the most part, impression management, a way of marketing yourself, carefully choosing and filtering (过滤) the picture and words to put your best face forward.(为什么社交媒体会引发孤独感和不足感?因为这不是真实的生活,在很大程度上,这是一种印象管理,一种推销自己的方式,仔细选择和过滤图片和文字,把你最好的一面展示出来。)”可知,该段首先使用提问的方式引出要论述的话题,结合下文介绍的社会媒体会引发孤独和不足感的原因可推知,作者暗示社交媒体让我们感到孤立和无能。故选C项。
2.推理判断题。根据第二段中的“Generally speaking, there are no unfiltered comments and casually taken photos on our social media pages. And, rightfully so, because it wouldn’t feel safe to be completely real and honest with some of our “friends” whom we don’t actually know or with whom trust has yet to be built.(一般来说,我们的社交媒体页面上没有未经过滤的评论和随意拍摄的照片。而且,这是理所当然的,因为对一些我们并不了解或尚未建立信任的“朋友”完全真实和诚实是不安全的。)”可知,社交媒体上发布的照片一般是经过处理过的,这是因为我们对网上不了解或者为建立信任的“朋友”真实和诚实是不安全的,由此可知,人们在社交媒体上有选择性地发表评论,原因是人们对不了解和不信任的网友设防。故选A项。
根据第四段中的“Also, we tend to idealise others' lives and compare our downfalls to their greatest accomplishments, ending in feelings of loneliness and inadequacy.(此外,我们倾向于把别人的生活理想化,把自己的失败和他们最伟大的成就作比较,最终感到孤独和不足。)”
根据尾段中的“However, social media should feel like a fun experience, not one that contributes to negative thoughts and feelings. If the latter is the case, increasing face to face time with trusted friends, and minimizing time scrolling online, will prove to be a reminder that your social network is much more rewarding than any “like”, “follow” or “share” can be.(然而,社交媒体应该是一种有趣的体验,而不是一种导致消极思想和情绪的体验。如果是后者,增加与值得信赖的朋友面对面的时间,尽量减少上网的时间,这将会提醒你,你的社交网络比任何“喜欢”、“关注”或“分享”都有价值得多。)”可知,当社交媒体让人产生了消极的感受时,应该增加与值得信赖的朋友面对面的时间,由此可知,作者建议人们增加与朋友面对面交流的时间。故选D项。
【答案】1.A 2.B 3.C 4.C
根据第一段“A popular saying goes, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” However, that’s not really true. Words have the power to build us up or tear us down. It doesn’t matter if the words come from someone else or ourselves — the positive and negative effects are just as lasting. (俗话说:“棍棒和石头可以打断我的骨头,但言语永远伤害不了我。”然而,事实并非如此。语言的力量可以建立我们,也可以让我们崩溃。不管这些话是别人说的还是我们自己说的,积极和消极的影响都是一样持久的。)”可知,本段主要说明了言语对我们有很大的积极的或消极的影响。故选A项。
根据第二段中“In fact, we really shouldn’t be because more and more experts believe talking to ourselves out loud is a healthy habit. (事实上,我们真的不应该害怕,因为越来越多的专家认为大声自言自语是一种健康的习惯。)”和第三段中“This “self-talk” helps us motivate ourselves, remember things, solve problems, and calm ourselves down. (这种“自我对话”可以帮助我们激励自己,记住事情,解决问题,让自己冷静下来。)”可知,当我们自言自语时,我们没有必要感到羞耻,因为这对我们有积极的影响,有益于我们的心理健康。故选B项。
3.词句猜测题。根据画线句的上文“So in order to stay positive, we should only speak words of encouragement to ourselves. (因此,为了保持积极,我们应该只对自己说鼓励的话。)”和下文“The next time you finish a project, do well in a test, or finally clean your room, join me in saying “Good job!” (下次当你完成一个项目,在考试中取得好成绩,或者终于打扫你的房间时,和我一起说“干得好!”)”可知,此处先提出自言自语的内容应该是鼓励的话,然后举例说明当自己做得好的时候,可以对自己说“干得好!”这样的话。由此推知,画线句应该是建议我们立即给自己一个表扬,即Praise ourselves“表扬自己”。故选C项。
4.推理判断题。根据倒数第三段中“Often, words come out of our mouths without us thinking about the effect they will have. But we should be aware that our words cause certain responses in others. (通常,话从我们嘴里说出来,我们没有考虑它们会有什么影响。但我们应该意识到,我们的话会引起别人的某些反应。)”、倒数第二段中“Words have power because of their lasting effect. (言语的力量在于它的持久效果。)”和最后一段中“Words possess power: both positive and negative. Those around us receive encouragement when we speak positively. We can offer hope, build self-esteem (自尊) and motivate others to do their best. Negative words destroy all those things. (言语具有力量:积极的和消极的。当我们积极地说话时,我们周围的人会受到鼓励。我们可以提供希望,建立自尊,激励他人做到最好。消极的话语摧毁了所有这些。)”可知,我们常常在说话时忘记言语的力量,但言语的确有或积极的,或消极的持久影响,深刻地影响他人。由此可知,和别人说话前我们最好三思而后行。故选C项。

根据第一段“One of Twitter’s main characters recently was a man who chose to keep his middle seat between a couple on a flight instead of moving to the side. The situation raised some questions: Who are these middle-seat lovers? What do they want?(最近推特上的一个主角是一名男子,他在飞机上选择坐在一对夫妇中间的座位,而不是挪到旁边。这种情况引发了一些问题:这些爱坐在中间的人是谁?他们想要什么?)”可推知,作者通过提供一个不寻常的座位选择开始这篇文章。故选D。
2.词句猜测题。根据划线词后文““In the middle seat I don’t feel I should lean one way or another and generally sit pretty comfortably,” one person wrote. Another added: “I’m not getting hit by someone walking down the aisle or luggage either.”(“在中间的座位上,我觉得我不会朝这边或那边倾斜,通常坐得很舒服,”一个人写道。另一个人补充道:“我不会被过道上走过的人或行李撞到。”)”可知,后文列举了两个支持中间座位的人,故划线词意思是“支持”。故选C。
3.细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“As a mother of three, “Having personal space is a far-off memory.” she said. “Middle seats have the least amount of responsibility,” she wrote. “I don’t control the window shade and only have to get by one person to get out or to go to the bathroom.”(作为三个孩子的母亲,“拥有私人空间是一个遥远的记忆。她说。“中间座位的责任最少,”她写道。“我不能控制窗帘,出去或上厕所只需要经过一个人。”)”可知,萨曼莎喜欢中间的座位是为了减少不必要的麻烦。故选B。
4.细节理解题。根据最后一段“He added: “People really care about the ‘middle seat’, so they are more likely to pick up this magazine on seeing it.”(他补充说:“人们真的很在乎‘中间座位’,所以他们更有可能在拿起这本杂志时看到它。”)” 故选A。
【答案】1.C 2.B 3.A 4.A

根据第三段“In one study, after we excited participants’(参与者的)interest in a topic of black holes with an easy-to-understand video, people with a fixed mindset came to dislike the topic when faced with a technical article. Those with a growth mindset kept their new-found interest despite the difficulty.( 在一项研究中,当我们在一个易于理解的视频中激发参与者对黑洞主题的兴趣后,面对一篇技术文章时,具有固定心态的人开始不喜欢这个话题。而具有成长心态的人即使面临困难,也保持了他们新发现的兴趣)”可知,作者提到对黑洞的研究,其目的是为了对具有固定心态的人和具有成长心态的人进行对比,展示差异,故选B项。
3.细节理解题。根据第三段“We published findings with 700 liberal arts undergraduates, most of whom held limited interest in math and science.( 我们在700名文理学院的本科学生中进行了研究,他们中的大多数人在数学和科学方面兴趣有限)”可知,学生是根据思维方式进行分组的,故选A项。
根据第二段“Science tells us that passions are developed. They can be raised through curiosity and repeated practices.(科学告诉我们,激情是可以培养和发展的。它们可以通过好奇心和重复实践得以提升)”、倒数第二段“By the end of the school year, the students who had received the intervention were more interested in their required math and science courses——and earned better grades in those courses—than their study skills peers.( 到学年结束时,接受干预的学生比接受学习技能指导的同学在必修的数学和科学课程上表现出了更大的兴趣,并且在这些课程中取得了更好的成绩。)”以及最后一段“While our intervention offers a way for schools to support their students, we also believe people can independently build up a growth mindset of interest. Realize that passions aren’t waiting to be “found.”

【答案】1.C 2.D 3.A 4.B
