题型:高中阅读理解 来源:外刊读物 Passage 1 字数:271 关键词:抢劫 来源:Reader’s Digest On a bright May morning in 2023, Michael Armus, a 69-year-old retired auto body painter, went to the Bank of America in Woodland, California to deposit money. He was looking forward to the usual pleasant interactions with the tellers. However, that day, the tellers seemed unusually nervous and the bank manager was whispering. As he approached the window, he noticed a man acting suspiciously, with his clothes pulled up to cover part of his face. He also heard the teller mention that the man had passed a note. Armus recognized this man as someone who had preached on the street corner. Instead of being overcome by fear, he felt a sense of compassion and decided to try to help. He walked up to 43-year-old Eduardo Plasencia and calmly asked what was wrong. Plasencia was agitated and said he was desperate, even expressing a desire to go to jail. Armus understood his pain, as he had been through tough times himself. Then, surprisingly, Armus put his arm around Plasencia and suggested they talk outside. Plasencia agreed. Outside the bank, Armus hugged and comforted Plasencia, who cried in his arms. Soon, the police arrived and initially regarded Armus as a suspect. It was only 45 minutes later that they recognized his kindness and released him. Eventually, Plasencia was charged with attempted robbery, although he didn't actually have a gun. Since then, Armus has continued to practice kindness, regularly providing food for the homeless and keeping pillows and blankets in his car to give to street people. He firmly believes that love conquers all and that small acts of kindness can change the world. 1. 细节理解题(直接信息题) 1. What was Michael Armus's former job? 1. A. Bank manager 2. B. Auto mechanic 3. C.
