My brother’ s words cut through my excuses. “You should see the world,” he said. I knew he was right. But traveling felt like something unreal. I was tired of backpackers talking about their fantastic trips. Then, my Greek best friend Jason reminded me of our promise: to visit his hometown in Athens.
Before long, I found myself on a plane flying over an ocean I'd never crossed, excited
but worried about what would happen once we landed. The long wait proved worth it. Every step through the ancient streets of Athens brought new wonders. However, what I experienced later changed my thoughts of travel.
While we were walking, a strange sound caught our attention, and broke the quietness of the street. Curious, we followed the sound. Around the corner, rose a simple workshop — its roof covered with traditional bricks and the door rolled up high. Inside, common tools shone with uncommon beauty. A heavy silence filled the air as time slowed down, giving me the space to notice every little detail.
Lost in his work, the welder(焊工) paid no attention to us. All that was visible was his short hair and the body hardened by years spent at the workshop. His hands expertly worked the metal as if he were a magician creating sparks and flames. As the man continued, I was full of admiration. I admired his peace and satisfaction. I longed for the simplicity he showed. The moment moved me to tears. The sight was more attractive than any ancient building or artistic masterpiece.
Since returning back home, I have been looking for meaning not in the grand(宏伟的), but in the simplest of moments — the ordinary made extraordinary. Happiness lies not in collecting passport stamps or material wealth, but in finding satisfaction within yourself. There is always beauty waiting to be discovered.
24. What can we learn about the author from paragraph 1?
A. He had a lot in common with his brother.

D. He broke his promise to have a visit to Athens.
25. What changed the author's view on travel?
A. The wonderful flying experience.
B. The walk through the ancient streets.
C. The well-designed workshop.
D. The chance meeting with a welder.
26. How did the author feel when he saw the welder working?
A. Curious. B. Touched. C. Confident. D. Anxious.
27. What did the author learn from the trip?
A. Beauty exists in ordinary life.
B. Small actions make a difference.
C. Travelling can bring pleasure.
D. Be brave to accept changes.

When we are young, we learn that tigers and sharks are dangerous animals. We might be scared of them because they are big and powerful. As we get older, however, we learn that sometimes the most dangerous animals are also the smallest animals. In fact, the animal that kills the most people is one that you are familiar with: the mosquito(蚊子).
While it may seem that all mosquitoes are biters, this is not actually the case. Male mosquitoes eat plant nectar. On the other hand, female mosquitoes feed on animal blood. When a female mosquito bites a human being, it transmits(传播) saliva into the blood. This saliva may or may not contain a deadly disease. The result of the bite can be minor or as serious as death.
Because a mosquito can bite many people in its life, it can carry deadly diseases from one person to another very easily. More than 700 million people become sick from these diseases every year. At least 2 million of these people will die from these diseases.
In some households, mosquito net s are placed over beds to protect people against being bitten. Mosquitoes have many natural enemies like bats, birds, dragonflies, and certain kinds of fish. Bringing more of these animals into places where mosquitoes live might help to cut down the number of mosquitoes in that area. This is a natural solution, but it does not always work very well. Mosquitoes can also be killed with poisons or sprays. But these sprays may also harm other plants or animals.
Although mosquitoes may not seem as scary as larger, more powerful animals, they are far more dangerous to human beings. But things are changing. It is highly likely that one day scientists will find a way to keep everyone safe from mosquitoes and the diseases they carry.
28. Why does the passage mention dangerous animals like tigers and sharks?
A. To compare different animals.
B. To lead into the topic about mosquitoes.
C. To show how dangerous tigers and sharks are.
D. To show people's misunderstanding of large animals.
29. What can we learn about mosquitoes?
A. All the mosquitoes have the same eating habits.
B. Female mosquitoes might transmit diseases to humans.
C. The saliva of female mosquitoes contains deadly diseases.
D. Most people will die if caught by deadly diseases from mosquitoes.
30. What's paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. Scientists are making efforts to kill mosquitoes.
B. Some useful measures are taken to kill mosquitoes.
C. There is no perfect solution to the mosquito problem.
D. Mosquitoes' natural enemies could protect human beings.
31. What's the author's attitude towards the future of solving the mosquito problem?
A. Doubtful. C. Unclear. B. Positive. D. Negative.
D
If a president, a philosopher, and one of the best-selling writers credited the same secret for their success, would you try to follow it too? What if the secret was something you already knew how to do? In fact, you probably do it every day. Here's what Friedrich Nietzsche wrote:“It is only ideas gained from walking that have any worth.” Thomas Jefferson:“Walking is the best possible exercise.” Charles Dickens:“If I could not walk far and fast, I think I should just explode and die.”
Researchers have found quite a lot of connections between walking and producing ideas.A Stanford University study found that participants were 81 percent more creative when walking as opposed to sitting. According to the study, walking outside — compared with on a treadmill(跑步机)— produces the most novel and highest-quality ideas.
The movement aspect of walking is obviously key. Our creative thinking is triggered by physical movement, which is exactly why walking — with your dog, a friend, or alone — feeds creative thinking.
The scenery is almost as important as the sweat. Breaking your routine with a walk can be a catalyst for fresh understanding of problems or projects. Just by going outside, you are stepping out of your familiar surroundings and your comfort zone, which is necessary if you want to open your mind to new possibilities. You can walk through a tree-filled neighborhood. You can walk through a park and observe people joking or birds singing. Being inside, you' re more likely to be lifeless, which means you don't have enough energy to wonder or create things.
So instead of setting a fitness goal, why not set a creativity goal that starts with walking? Involve yourself more closely in your surroundings. Turn off your phone and give yourself the chance to be present in the world, to hear conversations and natural sounds, and to notice the way people move and the way the sun reflects in a puddle.
32. How does the author introduce the topic in paragraph 1?
A. By providing background.
B. By borrowing phrases from great minds.
C. By giving definition.
D. By presenting well-known examples.
33. The underlined word in paragraph 4 means something .
A. causing a change B. stopping progress
C. drawing attention D. interrupting creativity
34. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Nature exploration improves fitness.
B. Walking on a treadmill brings more energy.
C. Working indoors makes people less creative.
D. Familiar surroundings encourage novel ideas.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Exercise in Nature. B. Train Your Brain.
C. Develop Your Creativity. D. Walk for Wonder.

参考范文
Dear Mike,
I'm Li Hua, one of your students from Senior One. I'm writing to seek your guidance on some challenges I have been facing in my English writing.
My problems are as follows. Firstly, what confuses me most is the proper use of tenses. I often mix up tenses, leading to low scores on my writings. What's more, I struggle to find appropriate words to express myself accurately. Despite my massive efforts to expand my vocabulary, words still fail me when I need to write. In addition, I find it difficult to make my writing well-structure d and coherent, which frustrates me a lot.
I'd appreciate it if you could give me some practical suggestions on my problems. Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
