If you’re an international student on the lookout for amazing academic opportunities, Italy might just be the place for you with a diverse range of universities.(但你知道吗? A。 B I wanted to buy something today - until I figured out the cost versus the benefit. At that point I knew it was a completely stupid idea. What I wanted to buy was an older car to have in addition to my four-year-old Smart Car that I absolutely like. So you wonder, why would I want to have another car as well? The reason is - grandkids. I have several and in the Smart Car I can only have one passenger (It’s a two-seater). Besides, one of my daughters-in-law does not trust the Smart Car as a vehicle for her daughter Lily to ride in, so that’s one little girl I can’t take anywhere at all. My husband also has a car - and a truck. So that’s why I had the stupid idea to buy an old Toyota I found on the lot of an honest used car salesman. Thank heavens I came to my senses before I spent $8000 to buy it, $80 or so to license it and probably $500 to insure it for a year. It would be senseless to buy that car. My grandkids just have to continue to come with me one by one. I can’t take two girls out to lunch or two girls shopping or pick up the brother and sister that live in the same house. As for the little one that’s not allowed to ride with me…well, Grandpa will have to pick her up. As for me, I didn’t get money in my savings account by being totally stupid. Sure, doing things with the kids is fun, but spending that kind of money to put two or more of them in a group - which would probably drive me crazy anyway - is really dumb. Sometimes temptation can prove that you still have a little sense. 4. What can we know about the author’s grandkid Lily? A. She refused to stay with her grandma. B. She thought it was dangerous to sit in a Smart Car. C. She was always picked up by her mom. D. She was not allowed to take her grandma’s car. 5. Why did the author give up the idea of buying the Toyota? A. It was a used car. B. She couldn’t afford it. C. The salesman was unreliable. D. There was no need for it. 6. What does the underlined word “dumb” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Difficult. B. reasonable. C. stupid. D. amazing. 7. What can be the best title of the text? A. Look before you leap. B. Better late than never. C. Don’t judge a book by its cover. D. Every advantage has its disadvantage. D 5. D 6. C 7. 根据第二段“Besides, one of my daughters-in-law does not trust the Smart Car as a vehicle for her daughter Lily to ride in, so that’s one little girl I can’t take anywhere at all. 根据最后一段“Thank heavens I came to my senses before I spent $8000 to buy it, $80 or so to license it and probably $500 to insure it for a year. It would be senseless to buy that car. 根据划线词上文“Sure, doing things with the kids is fun, but spending that kind of money to put two or more of them in a group - which would probably drive me crazy anyway (当然,和孩子们一起做事很有趣,但花那么多钱让两个或更多的孩子组成一个小组——这可能会让我发疯)”所以可推断出作者认为这样做是愚蠢的,故dumb意为“愚蠢的”,和stupid同义,故选C。 A。 C There’s always been debate about the best time of day to work out. For the longest time I’ve heard that exercising first thing in the morning is ideal, but others say a nighttime workout benefits them more. Is one time really better than another, and why? Regardless of when you work out, there are many health benefits from moving regularly, like improving your heart health, getting stronger or even improving your endurance (耐力). Most people decide to exercise when it best fits their schedule, so oftentimes they can’t help the time of the day they choose to be active. Research has shown, however, that the time of day you choose to exercise can affect your workout in various ways. The best time to work out is whenever you can. We don’t all have schedules that allow for a 90-minute workout. If your only time of day to exercise is before work, then morning is best. If you reserve physical activity for packed evenings, there’s a good chance that you won’t ever get to it. Likewise, if you can only squash (挤进) 20 minutes of exercise into your day right before you get ready for bed, that’s the best time to work out. I want to add a note on consistency (连贯性), though: The best time to exercise is whenever you can, but the best-best time of day to exercise is the time you can stick with for days, weeks and months. The fact of the matter is that people who exercise consistently see better weight loss and fitness results in the long-term. Research also suggests that your body can adapt to regular training schedules, so if you work out every morning, you will probably get a lot better at working out in the morning, and the same in regard to nighttime workouts. 8. How does the author introduce the topic? A. By listing numbers. B. By raising questions. C. By comparing facts. D. By giving examples. 9. What is the author’s attitude towards exercise in spare time? A. Objective. B. Unconcerned. C. Unclear. D. Supportive. 10. Which of the following is the most important as to exercise? A. Losing weight. B. Choosing the right gym. C. Working out regularly. D. Exercising as much as possible. 11. What is the text mainly about? A. The various places to exercise. B. The best time to exercise. C. The common mistakes about exercise. D. The good ways to exercise. B 9. D 10. C 11. 根据文章第一段“There’s always been debate about the best time of day to work out. For the longest time I’ve heard that exercising first thing in the morning is ideal, but others say a nighttime workout benefits them more. Is one time really better than another, and why? 根据文章第二段中“Regardless of when you work out, there are many health benefits from moving regularly, like improving your heart health, getting stronger or even improving your endurance (耐力). 根据文章最后一段“The fact of the matter is that people who exercise consistently see better weight loss and fitness results in the long-term. Research also suggests that your body can adapt to regular training schedules, so if you work out every morning, you will probably get a lot better at working out in the morning, and the same in regard to nighttime workouts.(事实是,长期坚持锻炼的人会看到更好的减肥和健身效果。 通读全文,尤其是根据文章第一段“There’s always been debate about the best time of day to work out. For the longest time I’ve heard that exercising first thing in the morning is ideal, but others say a nighttime workout benefits them more. Is one time really better than another, and why? 和最后一段“The fact of the matter is that people who exercise consistently see better weight loss and fitness results in the long-term. Research also suggests that your body can adapt to regular training schedules, so if you work out every morning, you will probably get a lot better at working out in the morning, and the same in regard to nighttime workouts.(事实是,长期坚持锻炼的人会看到更好的减肥和健身效果。 B“The best time to exercise (锻炼的最佳时间)”符合题意。故选B。 D A recent investigation has uncovered that a prehistoric marine mammal, known as the sea cow, fell Prey (猎物) to two distinct predators (捕食动物) — an ancient crocodile and a tiger shark. This discovery offers a rare glimpse into the complex food webs that existed millions of years ago. Conducted by an international group of scientists and published in the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology, the research reveals one of the scarce instances where a single target was hunted by multiple predators. The sea cow, belonging to the extinct group Culebratherium, was initially targeted by a crocodile. Subsequent evidence suggests that after the initial attack, a tiger shark scavenged (觅食) the remains of the sea cow, with one of its teeth found near the unfortunate creature’s neck. “Have you seen the Batman movie? There is a scene where he and Alfred are shooting bullets to try and figure out which specific type of bullet they are trying to find,” said Benites-Palomino, the lead researcher. “Our research was conducted in exactly the same way. We conducted field experiments where predators are attacking their prey, and then afterwards we try to compare which is the best scene for what we’re finding there.” This discovery is particularly noteworthy as it contributes to the limited fossil evidence of multiple predators interacting with a single prey. While such interactions are commonplace in modern ecosystems, they are seldom documented in the fossil record. Therefore, this finding serves as a crucial piece in the puzzle of understanding ancient food webs. “We have been unsure as to which animals would have served this purpose as a food source for multiple predators. Our previous research has identified sperm whales searched by several shark species, and this new research highlights the importance of sea cows within the food chain,” Benites-Palomino said in a statement. The digging, directed by Marcelo Sanchez-Villagra, head of the Palaeontological Institute and Museum in Zurich, Switzerland, was both challenging and rewarding. The site was initially discovered by a local farmer who spotted unusual rocks, inspiring the team to investigate deeper and ultimately uncover the sea cow fossils. 12. What can we learn about the prehistoric sea cow? A. It occupied the top of food chains. B. It was believed to possess complex dental structures. C. It was targeted by two different creatures. D. It belonged to a species threatened with extinction. 13. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about? A. The scene of animal battles. B. The risk associated with the experiments. C. The introduction of a movie. D. The method of the research. 14. What is the significance of this study? A. It questions the current ecological systems. B It provides valuable insights into ancient food webs. C. It corrects misconceptions about sea cows. D. It establishes the connection between humans and nature. 15. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. A Research Inspired by the Batman Movie B. A Puzzle in Complex Ancient Food Chains C. A Farmer’s Significant Biological Discovery D. Shark and Crocodile Ate Unlucky Sea Cow 【答案】12. C 13. D 14. B 15. 根据第一段中“A recent investigation has uncovered that a prehistoric marine mammal, known as the sea cow, fell Prey (猎物) to two distinct predators (捕食动物)—an ancient crocodile and a tiger shark. This discovery offers a rare glimpse into the complex food webs that existed millions of years ago.( 最近的一项调查发现,一种被称为海牛的史前海洋哺乳动物成为了两种截然不同的捕食者——一种古代鳄鱼和一种虎鲨的猎物。 根据第三段““Have you seen the Batman movie? There is a scene where he and Alfred are shooting bullets to try and figure out which specific type of bullet they are trying to find,” said Benites-Palomino, the lead researcher. “Our research was conducted in exactly the same way. We conducted field experiments where predators are attacking their prey, and then afterwards we try to compare which is the best scene for what we’re finding there.”(‘你看过蝙蝠侠电影吗? 根据第四段“This discovery is particularly noteworthy as it contributes to the limited fossil evidence of multiple predators interacting with a single prey. While such interactions are commonplace in modern ecosystems, they are seldom documented in the fossil record. Therefore, this finding serves as a crucial piece in the puzzle of understanding ancient food webs.( 这一发现特别值得注意,因为它为多个捕食者与单个猎物相互作用的有限化石证据做出了贡献。 根据文章大意以及第一段中“A recent investigation has uncovered that a prehistoric marine mammal, known as the sea cow, fell Prey (猎物) to two distinct predators (捕食动物)—an ancient crocodile and a tiger shark. This discovery offers a rare glimpse into the complex food webs that existed millions of years ago.( 最近的一项调查发现,一种被称为海牛的史前海洋哺乳动物成为了两种截然不同的捕食者——一种古代鳄鱼和一种虎鲨的猎物。 You’re chatting with a friend and want to recommend a good book you just finished, or a movie you recently watched. ___16___ It feels like it’s on the tip of your tongue, but the harder you try to remember, the more it slips away. We’ve all been there, and everyone knows how hard it is to keep track of all of that information floating around in your head. Luckily, there are plenty of options available when it comes to improving your memory. ___17___ Say that address, phone number, or date over and over again to commit it to memory. This is an extremely simple solution. But it’s the best option if you know you’ll need the information in the near future. Create notable associations in your head. ___18___ For example, if you meet someone named Vincent, try picturing them looking at a Vincent Willem van Gogh painting. Doing this in your head can dramatically improve your ability to recall specific information, and it can be a fun exercise as well! Focus on one thing at a time. Turn the TV off while you study and get off the phone while you’re driving. ___19___ This will make it hard to process the information necessary to remember what you’re doing. If you want to remember things more clearly, focus on one task at a time. Take notes and write things down. Taking a note will help you retain the information, even if you never look at your notes again! ___20___ By combining memorization with the act of writing, it helps your brain commit the information to memory. A. Repeat important information out loud. B. All of a sudden, you can’t remember the name! C. There may be a long-term effect of multitasking as well. D. Doing more than one activity at a time will split your attention. E. It’s hard to achieve the same effect by typing something on your laptop. F. While memorization takes place entirely in the brain, writing is a physical act. G. Paint a picture in your mind to make names, dates, and objects easier to remember. B 17. A 18. G 19. D 20. 【16题详解】 根据上文“You’re chatting with a friend and want to recommend a good book you just finished, or a movie you recently watched.(你和朋友聊天,想推荐一本刚读完的好书,或者最近看的一部电影)”和空后的“It feels like it’s on the tip of your tongue, but the harder you try to remember, the more it slips away.(感觉它就在你的舌尖上,但你越努力去记住,它就越是想不起来)”可知,想推荐一本好书或一部电影时,感觉到了嘴边却想不起来,说明突然想不起名字了。 【17题详解】 根据空后的“Say that address, phone number, or date over and over again to commit it to memory.(一遍又一遍地说地址、电话号码或日期,把它们记在脑子里)”可知,本段主要谈论的是重复说重要的信息。 【18题详解】 根据段落主题句“Create notable associations in your head.(在头脑中建立显著的联想)”可知,本段主要谈论的是在头脑中创建明显的联想,再结合空后所举的例子“For example, if you meet someone named Vincent, try picturing them looking at a Vincent Willem van Gogh painting. Doing this in your head can dramatically improve your ability to recall specific information, and it can be a fun exercise as well!(例如,如果你遇到一个叫文森特的人,试着想象他们正在看文森特·威廉·梵高的画。 【19题详解】 根据段落主题句“Focus on one thing at a time.(一次只关注一件事)”和空后的“This will make it hard to process the information necessary to remember what you’re doing.(这会让你很难处理必要的信息来记住你在做什么)”可知,当你同时进行多项活动时,你的注意力会被分散,这将使你很难处理必要的信息来记住你正在做的事。 根据空后的“By combining memorization with the act of writing, it helps your brain commit the information to memory.(通过将记忆与写作相结合,它可以帮助你的大脑将信息储存在记忆中)”可知,F项“记忆完全是在大脑中进行的,而书写则是一种身体行为”符合语境。 I have been so fortunate to receive kindness from everybody around, warmth from animals and Mother Nature. Their small plane had engine trouble, and crashed in the rainforest. Sadly, all three adults on the plane died, including the children’s mother. This left the four children alone in the jungle. The oldest child was a 13-year-old girl. Next came a 9-year-old, a 4-year-old, and an 11-month-old baby. The children are members of the Indigenous Huitoto tribe The Huitotos live in the Amazon rainforest, so the children were familiar with some of the plants and fruits that could be found there. At first, the children lived off flour made from plant roots. They had found the flour in the airplane ruins. When they ran out of flour, the children used their knowledge of the forest’s fruits and seeds to survive. Luckily, it was a time when many rainforest plants were producing fruits. As soon as the plane went down, people started searching to see if anyone survived. After two weeks, the plane was found. The people searching found signs that the children might still be alive. Rescue teams flew in helicopters and dropped boxes of food, hoping the children would find them. But they couldn’t see the ground because the forest was so thick. The helicopters even played a recorded message from the children’s grandmother, encouraging the kids to avoid moving around. Over 150 soldiers were sent out with dogs to search on the ground. These teams left whistles around, hoping the children would find them and use them to make noise. Around 70 Indigenous volunteers also helped search. They saw all kinds of animals. However, what they didn’t spot were the kids, who were apparently scared by the soldiers and spent much of their time hiding from them. At different points in time, the rescue teams found signs of the children. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After more than a month, the searchers finally found the children. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version; At different points in time, the rescue teams found signs of the children. A bottle, a partly-eaten piece of fruit, and even a rough shelter made by the children. They called in more searchers, followed the trail left by the children, sped up the search and expanded the searching area. As the search progressed, more and more traces were found. All the searchers were excited and increasingly confident that the children were still alive. Despite the numerous searches, the children remained out of contact. However, the rescue teams never lost heart. After more than a month, the searchers finally found the children. They were in a small clearing in the forest, about 15 kilometers from where the plane had crashed. The children were very weak, but they were alive. Everyone was extremely happy and relieved that the children were safe. The soldiers who found the children wrapped them in blankets and gave them drinks. A helicopter was used to lift the kids up and out of the rainforest. The story of the children’s survival has inspired many people. It has also shown how the knowledge and skills of Indigenous people can help in difficult times. 词汇激活 行为类 ①召集:call in/call up ②包裹:wrap/swathe ③抬起:lift...up/raise...up 情绪类 ①兴奋的:excited/thrilled ②高兴:happy/delighted 【点睛】[高分句型1] As the search progressed, more and more traces were found. B I wanted to buy something today - until I figured out the cost versus the benefit. A She refused to stay with her grandma. C There’s always been debate about the best time of day to work out. D A recent investigation has uncovered that a prehistoric marine mammal, known as the sea cow, fell Prey (猎物) to two distinct predators (捕食动物) — an ancient crocodile and a tiger shark. 12. At different points in time the rescue teams found signs of the children. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After more than a month, the searchers finally found the children. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
