We usually think fish can’t talk. But there are a lot of sounds under the sea. In fact, scientists believe that all sea animals, at least 250,000 kinds, can “speak”! If we stay focus when diving (潜水) “We can hear animals all around us, ” UK scientist Steve Simpson told the BBC.
In the past years, scientists used some recorders (录音设备) to hear fish’s “voices”. There are now thousands of recorders in the sea. They help scientists match sounds with sea life.
A healthy coral reef (珊瑚礁) is one of the noisiest places in the sea. Scientists can tell if it’s healthy by listening to it. A healthy coral reef should be full of clicks (喀嚓声) made by shrimps (小虾) . When some coral reef died in 2015 and 2016, they became quiet. After people set up the protected areas (保护区域) , scientists heard the animals come back.
By listening to the sea, scientists start to understand sea animals’ languages. Strong clownfish make short “chirp” sounds when going after small clownfish. They do this to show they are more powerful (强大的). A damselfish can create a pop sound to scare other fish by quickly opening and closing its mouth. Mother dolphins can use a special voice to talk to their babies. They are saying “I’m here” to comfort the baby dolphins.
23. What do scientists use “recorders” to do?
A. To protect coral reefs. B. To help with fish.

What will our life be like without social media (社交媒体) ? We use it almost every day in order to keep up with our friends’ lives, or find out the latest information. Although it has a bad influence (影响) if we don’t use it right, social media has done more good.
The greatest advantage is that we can get in touch with people much more easily. With social media, friendship goes beyond (超越) geography. Also, it makes it easier for us to make friends, especially for those who are afraid of making friends face to face. Are you shy? If yes, social media has probably helped.
Social media is also helpful for making yourself heard. Anyone with a voice can express it. Anyone with a talent is free to show it. Everyone is the creator. Moreover, anyone with a smartphone and the Internet can be a reporter. As a result, it has become much faster to cover the news than ever before.
Social media, on the other hand, can make us less confident (自信) sometimes. A 2021 study found that the more a person uses social media, the sadder he feels about his own life. One reason for this is that people around us put colorful information and pictures online in order to show off their best moment. So we often get a distorted sense of how wonderful their lives are.
Social media does not cause sadness, it is simply another tool for us to use. Is it good or bad? A Nobel Peace Prize winner says, “What is interesting is the power and influence of social media…We must try to use social media in a right way.” After all, you decide how you will use this powerful tool.
27. What is the greatest advantage of social media according to the passage?
A. Expressing our voices freely. B. Showing our talents to others.
C. Recording the best side of our life. D. Connecting with people more easily.
28. What does the word “distorted” probably mean in Paragraph 4?
A. clear B. different C. wrong D. simple
29. Which picture shows the structure (结构) of the passage? (①=Paragraph 1,…)
A. B. C. D.
30. Which of the following can be the best title of the passage?
A. Social Media: Good or Bad? B. Social Media: To Use or Not to Use?
C. Social Media: Connecting the World D. Social Media: Making Yourself Heard

Anne of Green Gables has been a favorite book of teenagers all over the world since it came out in 1908. What it teaches us is simple: How to grow up to be a happy and useful person.
Anne is an 11-year-old orphan who arrives in the town of Avonlea, Canada. She helps Mathew and Marilla Cuthbert, a brother and sister, on their farm.
At first, Mathew and Marilla hope to adopt (收养) a boy, not a thin girl. Will she be of any use on the farm? It seems unlikely: Anne is very imaginative, talkative and easily distracted (分心的). That’s not what is needed on a farm.
And yet, Annie proves (证明) that she can actually be useful. She works really hard. But she doesn’t lose her great sense of fun and this is why readers love the story. She doesn’t become “a good girl”, if “good girl” means knowing only how to work and live unhappily. We see Anne’s love for life everywhere. She knows how to enjoy herself, whether it’s by eating ice cream or trying on a new dress.
Many stories for children are written to tell them how to be good. Usually, it means doing one’s duty (责任) and not having any fun. But that’s not the kind of story Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery wanted to tell. The book gives readers a helping hand rather than try to scare them into being “good” girls and boys.
51. When was the book first printed?
___________________________________________________
52. Why do the brother and sister dislike Anne at first?
___________________________________________________
53. How does Ann prove herself on the farm?
___________________________________________________
54. What is a usual “good girl” like in the passage?
