A. had been regarded; all the time B. has been regarded; over time
C. was regarded; at times D. had been regarded; of all time
根据时间状语“By the time he died in 2016”可知主句应使用过去完成时,主语Ali和动词regard是被动关系,应用被动语态,因此第一空用had been regarded。 all the time意为“一直”;over time意为“随着时间的推移”;at times意为“有时”均不符合题意。故选D。
6. Citywalk not only offers a way for young people to interact with a city but also provides them with a new social scene, ________ people ________ the same interests and ideas can easily make friends.

7. —It is more than 30 years _______ our English teacher came to work in this school.
— Undoubtedly, she is full of experience and deserves _______.
A. that; to be respected B. since; respecting
C. before; to be respected D. that; respecting
8. Any tickets __________ will be on sale at the gateway.
A. remained to sell B. remaining to sell
C. remained to be sold D. remaining to be sold
所以是remaining to be sold。故选D。
9. ________ so many times didn’t make him lose heart, ________ in turn, helped him become strong and be a real man.
A. Being rejected, it B. To be rejected, it C. Being rejected, which D. To be rejected, which
10. No sooner ________ entered this Luckin Coffee chain house than he ________ the recently fashionable Moutai-flavoured coffee.
A. he had; ordered B. he had; had ordered C. did he; had ordered D. had he; ordered
No sooner...than...

By the time Nalin Kamat was 13, the Toronto teen was well on his way to becoming a working artist. He had already had his first show at a local art center, showcasing his series titled “Dispositions”, which illustrated his own growth during adolescence (青少年).
Yet he wanted more — specifically to start showing his work in a juried exhibition, where a group of art experts would evaluate and select pieces in a competitive review process. That’s when he hit an obstacle, discovering in the very last line of a multi-page application that the minimum age for submission was 18.
That rejection became a motivation for creation. “I thought it’d be really cool if I could provide the opportunity to more young artists, ” says Nalin, now 15. With the support of his parents, in January 2023, Nalin rented a storefront and founded Little EGG Gallery, which is now profitable enough to make ends meet by charging a small hanging fee for any displayed work. In turn, Little EGG helps promote young talent by showcasing their work.
Not long after opening, David Griffin, a professor and artist of Ontario College of Art and Design University stepped into the gallery and met Nalin. Griffin regards him as someone special: “a strong young artist with a really excellent idea — creating a space for showing the natural genius of young people. It was a void (空白) in the art world.” There Nalin asked Griffin to help judge an upcoming competition. The first juried show was last spring, and five-year-old Jack Gamble won for his abstract painting titled “Pokemon”.
As Nalin was busy with school, life and his own art, Little EGG is mostly open by appointment only, but he’s still committed to growing it with seasonal and themed shows scheduled a few times a year.
14. What do we know about Nalin Kamat from the first two paragraphs?
A. He drew teenagers’ growth in his work.
B. He became a working artist when aged 13.
C. He was disqualified for a juried exhibition.
D. He showed his series at the capital art center.
15. Why did Nalin decide to set up Little EGG Gallery?
A. To promote artists by showcasing their work.
B. To form the connection between different galleries.
C. To expand his own business through themed shows.
D. To show young artists’ talent by offering them a stage.
16. Which of the following can best describe Nalin’s idea of opening the gallery?
A. Groundbreaking. B. Short-lived. C. Well-received. D. Unpromising.
17. What kind of person is Nalin Kamat according to the text?
A. Helpful and cautious.
B. Devoted and creative.
C. Humorous and intelligent.
D. Knowledgeable and ambitious.
C 15. D 16. A 17. B

根据文章第一段“By the time Nalin Kamat was 13, the Toronto teen was well on his way to becoming a working artist.(在纳林·卡马特13岁的时候,这位多伦多少年已经走上了成为一名在职艺术家的道路)”和第二段“Yet he wanted more — specifically to start showing his work in a juried exhibition, where a group of art experts would evaluate and select pieces in a competitive review process. That’s when he hit an obstacle, discovering in the very last line of a multi-page application that the minimum age for submission was 18.(然而,他想要的更多——具体来说,是开始在一个评审展览中展示他的作品,在那里,一群艺术专家将在一个竞争性的评审过程中评估和选择作品。就在那时,他遇到了一个障碍,在一份多页申请表的最后一行发现提交作品的最低年龄是18岁)”可知,Nalin Kamat因为年龄问题而被取消了参加评审展览的资格。故选C。
【15题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第三段““I thought it’d be really cool if I could provide the opportunity to more young artists, ” says Nalin, now 15. With the support of his parents, in January 2023, Nalin rented a storefront and founded Little EGG Gallery, which is now profitable enough to make ends meet by charging a small hanging fee for any displayed work. (“我想,如果我能为更多的年轻艺术家提供机会,那就太棒了,”现年15岁的纳林说。在父母的支持下,纳林于2023年1月租了一个店面,并创办了Little EGG Gallery,现在这家画廊通过向任何展示的作品收取小额悬挂费,已经足够盈利来维持生计了)”可知,他创办Little EGG Gallery的目的是为了给年轻艺术家提供一个展示才华的舞台。故选D。
【16题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第三段“That rejection became a motivation for creation. “I thought it’d be really cool if I could provide the opportunity to more young artists, ” says Nalin, now 15. With the support of his parents, in January 2023, Nalin rented a storefront and founded Little EGG Gallery, which is now profitable enough to make ends meet by charging a small hanging fee for any displayed work.(那次拒绝成为了他创作的动力。“我想,如果我能为更多的年轻艺术家提供机会,那就太棒了,”现年15岁的纳林说。在父母的支持下,纳林于2023年1月租了一个店面,并创办了Little EGG Gallery,现在这家画廊通过向任何展示的作品收取小额悬挂费,已经足够盈利来维持生计了)”和第四段“a strong young artist with a really excellent idea — creating a space for showing the natural genius of young people. It was a void in the art world.(一个有着非常优秀想法的强大年轻艺术家——为展示年轻人的天才创造了一个空间。这是艺术界的一个空白)”可知,纳林想要为更多的年轻艺术家提供机会,于是他租了一个店面并创办了Little EGG Gallery,这是一个创新的想法,因此可以用“Groundbreaking (开创性的)”来形容他的想法。故选A。
通读全文,尤其是文章倒数第二段“Not long after opening, David Griffin, a professor and artist of Ontario College of Art and Design University stepped into the gallery and met Nalin. Griffin regards him as someone special: “a strong young artist with a really excellent idea — creating a space for showing the natural genius of young people. Australia officially listed koalas (考拉) across its eastern coast as “endangered” on Friday. Conservationists said koala populations had crashed in much of eastern Australia over the past two decades, warning that they were now sliding towards extinction.
The koala a globally recognized symbol of Australia’s unique wildlife, had been listed as “vulnerable (易受……伤害的)” on the eastern coast just a decade earlier. “We are taking unprecedented (史无前例的) action to protect the koala,” the Minister of Environment, Sussan Ley said, highlighting a recent government promise of Aus $50 million to protect and recover koala habitats.
Environmentalists welcomed the koalas’ new status but blamed Australia’s failure to protect the species so far. “Koulas have gone from no-listing to vulnerable to endangered within a decade. That is a shockingly fast decline,” said WWF — Australia conservation scientist Stuart Blanch. “Today’s decision is welcome, but it won’t stop koalas from sliding towards extinction unless it’s accompanied by stronger laws to protect their forest homes.”
Alexia Wellbelove of the Humane Society International said east coast koalas could be extinet by 2050 if no action was taken. “We can’t afford any more clearing,” she said. “The extinction of koalas does not have to happen,” she added, “we must stop allowing their homes to be cleared for mines, new houses, agricultural projects and industrial logging (伐木).”
Australia’s koalas had been living on a “knife edge” even before the “Black Summer” bushfires of 2019-2020 because of land-clearing, drought, disease, car strikes and dog attacks, said Josey Sharrad, wildlife campaign manager at the International Fund for Animal Welfare. “We should never have allowed things to get to the point where we are at risk of losing a national icon,” Sharrad said. “The bushfires were the final straw. This must be a wake-up call to Australia and the government to move much faster to protect critical habitat from development and land-clearing, and seriously deal with the impacts of climate change.”
18. Why did environmentalists welcome the koalas’ new status?
A. This would stop koalas from extinction.
B. They may have time to recover koala habitats.
C. They could blame the government’s failure.
D. This could lead to action to protect koalas.
19. What’s the main idea of the third paragraph?
A. The koalas’ new status was welcomed.
B. Australian government should be blamed.
C. Australia hasn’t been successful in protecting species.
D. Koalas will no longer be in danger.
20. How does Sharrad feel about the present state of Koalas?
A. Frightened. B. Concerned. C. Disappointed. D. Satisfied.
21. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. Australia Lists Koalas as Endangered B. Koalas Will Live on a Knife Edge
C. Koalas: Australia’s National Icon D. Bushfires: Koala Killers in Australia
D 19. C 20. B 21. A

根据第二段“The koala a globally recognized symbol of Australia’s unique wildlife, had been listed as “vulnerable (易受……伤害的)” on the eastern coast just a decade earlier. “We are taking unprecedented (史无前例的) action to protect the koala,” the Minister of Environment, Sussan Ley said, highlighting a recent government promise of Aus $50 million to protect and recover koala habitats. (考拉是全球公认的澳大利亚独特的野生动物的象征,十年前在东海岸被列为“易危物种”。环境部长Sussan Ley说:“我们正在采取前所未有的行动来保护考拉,并强调了政府最近承诺的5000万澳元来保护和恢复考拉栖息地”。)”及第三段中““Koulas have gone from no-listing to vulnerable to endangered within a decade. That is a shockingly fast decline,” said WWF— Australia conservation scientist Stuart Blanch. “Today’s decision is welcome, but it won’t stop koalas from sliding towards extinction unless it’s accompanied by stronger laws to protect their forest homes.” (世界自然基金会澳大利亚保护科学家Stuart Blanch说:“考拉在十年内已经从不在列表中到易受威胁。这是一个令人震惊的速降。今天的决定是受欢迎的,但它不会阻止考拉走向灭绝,除非它伴随着更强大的法律来保护它们的森林家园。”)”可知,环境保护主义者欢迎考拉的新地位是因为这可能会导致保护考拉的行动。故选D。
【19题详解】
主旨大意题。由文章第三段“Environmentalists welcomed the koalas’ new status but blamed Australia’s failure to protect the species so far.
根据最后一段中““We should never have allowed things to get to the point where we are at risk of losing a national icon,” Sharrad said. “The bushfires were the final straw. This must be a wake-up call to Australia and the government to move much faster to protect critical habitat from development and land-clearing, and seriously deal with the impacts of climate change.” (Sharrad说:“我们永远不应该让事情发展到我们有可能失去国家象征的地步。森林大火是最后一根稻草。这必须为澳大利亚和政府敲响警钟,要求他们加快行动,保护关键栖息地免受开发和土地清理的影响,并认真应对气候变化的影响。”)”可知,Sharrad认为应该加快行动,保护考拉及其栖息地。故推知Sharrad对考拉的现状是担心的。故选B。
【21题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是根据第一段中“Australia officially listed koalas (考拉) across its eastern coast as “endangered” on Friday. (周五,澳大利亚正式将东海岸的考拉列为“濒危物种”。)”可知,文章主要介绍澳大利亚将考拉列为“濒危物种”,并分析原因。故文章的标题是“Australia Lists Koalas as Endangered (澳大利亚将考拉列为濒危物种)”。故选A。
D
In the coming decade, space agencies and private space companies like SpaceX are planning to build a base on the Moon and Mars. While scientists are already building rockets for the journey, for long-term human settlements on them, astronauts will need fuel to carry out daily tasks. Many have suggested hydrogen (氢). But a group of scientists is working on turning CO2 in the atmosphere into jet fuel. As Mars is rich in CO2 and the lunar surface has a high concentration of CO2, it may be a feasible solution.
For now the team of scientists at the University of Oxford is focusing on making jet fuel for the aviation (航空) industry. As the aviation industry releases over 900 million tons of CO2 every year, to battle climate change, it is necessary to turn the tide. So far aviation scientists have tried to use other energy resources like electricity to fly. But such flights are limited to short distances. For long-distance flights, there is no alternative yet.
The concept of turning CO2 into jet fuel is not new. Previously, other similar methods had to rely on expensive catalysts (催化剂) like cobalt to speed up the chemical reaction. But what Oxford scientists suggest is adding a cheap iron-based catalyst and hydrogen to turn CO2 into liquid fuel. As the process would not require using fossil fuel, it will make the industry carbon neutral
The scientists tested the new catalyst in a lab at 300°C and at 10 times the air pressure at sea level. The entire process took 20 hours and turned 38 percent of CO2 into new chemicals. About 48 percent of the chemicals were jet fuel hydrocarbon and the rest were other by-products that are used in the production of plastic.
Professor Peter Edwards, a lead scientist in the project, said the new method could be improved in two to three years to produce jet fuel in large quantities. “This is a really exciting, potentially revolutionary advance. Our vision is that the world can see that CO2 collected can be used as an energy carrier to enable sustainable aviation.”
22. Which word can best explain “feasible” underlined in paragraph 1?
A. Unique. B. Practical. C. Time-tested. D. Quick.
23. What problem does the aviation industry face?
A. It is suffering from a serious fuel shortage.
B. The traditional jet fuel is much too expensive.
C. Climate change partly disturbs long-distance flights.
D. Its alternative energy resources are not powerful enough.
24. What do we know about the Oxford scientists’ method of fuel-making?
A. It is green and cost-saving.
B. It is complex and time-consuming.
C. It runs tests in natural environment.
D. It starts with immediate chemical reaction.
25. What’s the purpose of the author?
A. To attract people to explore the space.
B. To inform us of a breakthrough in fuel research.
C. To warn us the dangers of climate change.
D. To encourage us to work in the aviation industry.
B 23. D 24. A 25. B

根据划线词前文“But a group of scientists is working on turning CO2 in the atmosphere into jet fuel. As Mars is rich in CO2 and the lunar surface has a high concentration of CO2(但一组科学家正在研究将大气中的二氧化碳转化为喷气燃料。因为火星富含二氧化碳,而月球表面的二氧化碳浓度很高)”可知,科学家想把CO₂转化为喷气燃料,且火星和月球表面CO₂充足,所以这一想法很可行。所以划线单词feasible意为“切实可行的”,和B选项“Practical”意思相近。故选B。
【23题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中的“So far aviation scientists have tried to use other energy resources like electricity to fly. But such flights are limited to short distances. For long-distance flights, there is no alternative yet.(到目前为止,航空科学家已经尝试使用电力等其他能源来飞行。但这种飞行只限于短途飞行。对于长途飞行来说,目前还没有其他选择。)”可知,航空业面临的问题是它的替代能源还不够强大。故选D。
【24题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中的“Previously, other similar methods had to rely on expensive catalysts (催化剂) like cobalt to speed up the chemical reaction. But what Oxford scientists suggest is adding a cheap iron-based catalyst and hydrogen to turn CO2 into liquid fuel. As the process would not require using fossil fuel, it will make the industry carbon neutral (碳中和的).(以前,其他类似的方法必须依靠昂贵的催化剂,如钴来加速化学反应。但牛津大学的科学家们建议,加入一种廉价的铁基催化剂和氢,将二氧化碳转化为液体燃料。由于该过程不需要使用化石燃料,它将使该行业实现碳中和。)”可知,把CO₂转化为液体燃料无需昂贵的催化剂,也能达到碳中和,可得出牛津大学科学家的燃料制造方法是环保和节省成本的。故选A。
由第一段中的“But a group of scientists is working on turning CO2 in the atmosphere into jet fuel.(但一组科学家正在研究将大气中的二氧化碳转化为喷气燃料。)”

Tricks To Becoming A Patient Person
Here’s a riddle: What do traffic jams, long lines and waiting for a vacation to start all have in common? There is one answer. ___26___.
In the Digital Age, we’re used to having what we need immediately and right at our fingertips. However, research suggests that if we practiced patience, we’d be a whole lot better off. Here are several tricks.
●Practice gratitude (感激)
Thankfulness has a lot of benefits: Research shows it makes us happier, less stressed and even more optimistic. ___27___. “Showing thankfulness can foster self-control,” said Ye Li, researcher at the University of California.
● Make yourself wait
Instant gratification (满足) may seem like the most “feel good” option at the time, but psychology research suggests waiting for things actually makes us happier in the long run. And the only way for us to get into the habit of waiting is to practice. ___28___. Put off watching your favorite show until the weekend or wait 10 extra minutes before going for that cake. You’ll soon find that the more patience you practice, the more you start to apply it to other, more annoying situations.
● ___29___.
So many of us have the belief that being comfortable is the only state we will tolerate, and when we experience something outside of our comfort zone, we get impatient about the circumstances. You should learn to say to yourself, “___30___.” You’ll then gradually become more patient.
A. Find your causes
B. Start with small tasks
C. Accept the uncomfortable
D. All this adds up to a state of hurry
E. It can also help us practice more patience
F. This is merely uncomfortable, not intolerable
G. They’re all situations where we could use a little extra patience

One Saturday morning, Jeremy woke up to a quiet house. Usually Mom was awake making breakfast and cleaning the kitchen, but not today. At the sound of his mom coughing, Jeremy knocked on her bedroom door and asked with great concern, “Mom, are you ok?” “Honey,” Mom said weakly. “I have a terrible cold. You can have cereal (燕麦) for breakfast and watch cartoons. I’m going to stay in bed.”
Jeremy poured some cereal into a bowl and ate the pieces dry. Mom must feel very bad if she was staying in bed all day. How could Jeremy help? First, he wiped up the crumbs of cereal he left on the kitchen counter. He also put away the cereal box neatly, so the kitchen looked just as it did when he woke up. But what else could he do? Jeremy thought. Saturday was the day when mom did laundry. Jeremy loved to watch the clothes spinning in the machine. That should be fun! He ran to his room to get the laundry basket, inside which there was his mother’s favorite white dress, among other clothes and a pair of red socks.
Jeremy opened the door to the washer and put the clothing inside. He had watched Mom do laundry lots of times, so he knew where to find the washing powder and how to pour it into the machine. Finally, he closed the door and pressed the big button that said “START.” Jeremy looked through the round glass window. Water was pouring in, and the machine was starting to spin, making his clothing tumble around. That was easy!
Jeremy watched cartoons until he heard the washing machine beep. That meant the washing was done. Jeremy opened the door to take out the damp clothes. He took out a few at a time and moved them into the dryer. Everything seemed clean, and Jeremy felt proud. Then he pulled out a pink dress.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
But he remembered there was no pink dress in the laundry basket.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Holding the neatly folded pink dress, Jeremy nervously knocked at his mom’s bedroom door again.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One Possible Version:
But he remembered there was no pink dress in the laundry basket. “Where did it come from?” Jeremy wondered, reaching into the washer to take out more clothes. Then much to his astonishment, he pulled out two T-shirts, both in light pink. Realizing there was something wrong, Jeremy stood frozen, his heart sinking. While racking his brain for reasons, he caught sight of the red socks, and it suddenly occurred to him that they must be to blame for the accident. With no means of handling the situation, Jeremy was in such a panic that he even thought of hiding the dress from his mom. “That isn’t a positive approach to the problem,” he reminded himself. Finally, he decided to dry and fold the laundry before telling his mom everything.
Holding the neatly folded pink dress, Jeremy nervously knocked at his mom’s bedroom door again. After what seemed like ages, he came to the bedside, his head drooping. Sensing his son’s unease, his mother inquired with concern what was wrong. “Sorry mom, I shouldn’t have ruined your favorite dress.” Jeremy apologized. Stuttering out the mistake he had made, he was ready to get a good scolding for his wrongdoing. Realizing what’s going on, mom smiled understandingly at Jeremy, “Never mind, dear. I know you meant to help.” Then mom held the dress up before her and said in an approving tone, “You know what? I think it looks nice.” At this Jeremy beamed with relief, making a silent vow to be more careful in helping his mom out next time.

C Climate change partly disturbs long-distance flights.

注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
